• SQL Server 2005 and 'General network error'

  I know there is a lot of information in the Internet about solving this problem, but it didn't help me. My Delphi application uses dbExpress controls to access the database and execute SQL queries. Once every couple of days, however, it stops working because the database connection fails. This happens on several different computers with different versions of Windows. MSSQL Server 2005 (version 9.0.4035) is installed on each of them. The above mentioned application executes queries every couple of seconds, and they are mainly insert commands. Every couple of days I get a series of exceptions like the following one: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (PreLoginHandshake()).]General network error. Check your network documentation. And then the SQL server becomes inaccessible until I restart it manually. The information I found in the Internet say that I should install some service packs, change some registry entries etc., but believe me, none of these helps and I don't know what else to do now. Could you please help me solve this problem? Any clues or ideas? I can give you some more information about the server or the application if necessary. Thank you very much in advance.

• Indy Write Buffering / Efficient TCP communication

  I know, I'm asking a lot of questions...but as a new delphi developer I keep falling over all these questions :) This one deals with TCP communication using indy 10. To make communication efficient, I code a client operation request as a single byte (in most scenarios followed by other data bytes of course, but in this case only one single byte). Problem is that var Bytes : TBytes; ... SetLength (Bytes, 1); Bytes [0] := OpCode; FConnection.IOHandler.Write (Bytes, 1); ErrorCode := Connection.IOHandler.ReadByte; does not send that byte immediately (at least the servers execute handler is not invoked). If I change the '1' to a '9' for example everything works fine. I assumed that Indy buffers the outgoing bytes and tried to disable write buffering with FConnection.IOHandler.WriteBufferClose; but it did not help. How can I send a single byte and make sure that it is immediatly sent? And - I add another little question here - what is the best way to send an integer using indy? Unfortunately I can't find function like WriteInteger in the IOHandler of TIdTCPServer...and WriteLn (IntToStr (SomeIntVal)) seems not very efficient to me. Does it make a difference whether I use multiple write commands in a row or pack things together in a byte array and send that once? Thanks for any answers! EDIT: I added a hint that I'm using Indy 10 since there seem to be major changes concerning the read and write procedures.

  When invoking a query on the data service I get this error message inside the XML feed: <m:error> <m:code></m:code> <m:message xml:lang="nl-NL">Internal Server Error. The type 'MyType' is not a complex type or an entity type.</m:message> </m:error> When I use the example described here in the article "How to: Create a Data Service Using the Reflection Provider (WCF Data Services)" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728281(v=VS.100).aspx it works as expected. I have created the service in a .NET 4.0 web project. My data context class returns a query object that is derived from the LINQExtender (http://linqextender.codeplex.com/). When I execute the query object in a unit test, it works as expected. My entity type is defined as: [DataServiceKey("Id")] public class Accommodation { [UniqueIdentifier] [OriginalFieldName("EntityId")] public string Id { get; set; } [OriginalFieldName("AccoName")] public string Name { get; set; } } (the UniqueIdentifier and OriginalFieldName attributes are used by LINQExtender) Does anybody know if this is a bug in WCF data services or am I doing something wrong?

• What is causing this OverflowError in Django?

  I'm using a normal ModelForm.save() to create an object, and this exception comes up. It worked fine before until I added commit_manually, transaction.rollback() and transaction.commit() to my view. Has anyone else ran into this? Is this because of sqlite3? • I'm trying to populate a MySQL table with some data, but, mysqli won't let me insert every 10th stat

  I want to initialise a 'ticket' table with some ticket IDs. To do this, I want to insert 120 ticket IDs into the table. However, at every 10th statement, MySQL tells me that the ID already exists and thus won't let me insert it. • Executable war file that starts jetty without maven

  I'm trying to make an "executable" war file (java -jar myWarFile.war) that will start up a jetty webserver that hosts the webapp contained in the war file I executed. I found a page that described how to make what I'm looking for: http://eclipsesource.com/blogs/2009/10/02/executable-wars-with-jetty/ however, following that advice along with how I think I'm supposed to make an executable jar (war) isn't working. I have an ant task creating a war with a manifest that looks like: Manifest-Version: 1.0 Ant-Version: Apache Ant 1.7.1 Created-By: 1.5.0_18-b02 (Sun Microsystems Inc.) Main-Class: Start The contents of the war look like: > Start.class > jsp > build.jsp > META-INF > MANIFEST.MF > WEB-INF > lib > jetty-6.1.22.jar > jetty-util.6.1.22.jar When I try to execute the .war file, the error is: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/mortbay/jetty/Handler Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.mortbay.jetty.Handler at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:307) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:248) Could not find the main class: Start. That did not work either. Does anyone have any insight as to what I'm doing right/wrong and how I can get this executable war up and running?

• Maven: compile aspectj project containing Java 1.6 source

  What I want to do is fairly easy. Or so you would think. However, nothing is working properly. Requirement: Using maven, compile Java 1.6 project using AspectJ compiler. Note: Our code cannot compile with javac. That is, it fails compilation if aspects are not woven in (because we have aspects that soften exceptions). Questions (based on failed attempts below): Either 1) How do you get maven to run the aspectj:compile goal directly, without ever running compile:compile? 2) How do you specify a custom compilerId that points to your own ajc compiler? Thanks for any and all suggestions. These are the things I've tried that have let to my problem/questions: Attempt 1 (fail): Specify aspectJ as the compiler for the maven-compiler-plugin: org.apache.maven.plugins maven-compiler-plugin 2.2 1.6 1.6 aspectj org.codehaus.plexus plexus-compiler-aspectj 1.8 This fails with the error: org.codehaus.plexus.compiler.CompilerException: The source version was not recognized: 1.6 No matter what version of the plexus compiler I use (1.8, 1.6, 1.3, etc), this doesn't work. I actually read through the source code and found that this compiler does not like source code above Java 1.5. Attempt 2 (fail): Use the aspectJ-maven-plugin attached to the compile and test-compile goals: org.codehaus.mojo aspectj-maven-plugin 1.3 1.6 1.6 compile test-compile This fails when running either: mvn clean test-compile mvn clean compile because it attempts to execute compile:compile before running aspectj:compile. As noted above, our code doesn't compile with javac--the aspects are required. So mvn would need to skip the compile:compile goal altogether and run only aspectj:compile. Attempt 3 (works but unnacceptable): Use the same configuration above but instead run: mvn clean aspectj:compile This works, in that it builds successfully but it's unacceptable in that we need to be able to run the compile goal and the test-compile goal directly (m2eclipse auto-build depends on those goals). Moreover, running it this way would require that we spell out every goal we want along the way (for instance, we need resources distributed and tests to be run and test resources deployed, etc)

• How to prevent latex memory overflow

  I've got a latex macro that makes small pictures. In that picture I need to draw area. Borders of that area are quadratic bezier curves and that area is to be filled. I did not know how to do it so currently I'm "filling" the area by drawing a plenty of bezier curves inside it... This slows down typeseting and when a macro is used multiple times (so tex is drawing really a lot of quadratic bezier curves) it produces following error: ! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=3000000]. How can I prevent this error ? (by freeing memory after macro or such...) Or even better how do I fill the area determined by two quadratic bezier curves?   Hi, I'm having issues with getting DBI's IBM DB2 driver to work with mod_perl. I get this error in apache's error log: DBD::DB2::dr connect warning: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Apache/DBI.pm line 190. DBI connect('SAMPLE','username',...) failed: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified at /data/www/perl/test.pl line 15 First of all, why is it using ODBC? The native DB2 driver is installed (hence it works as CGI). Running Apache 2.2.3, mod_perl 2.0.4 under RHEL5. This guy had the same problem as me: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg22909.html But I have no idea how he fixed it. What does mod_php4 have to do with mod_perl? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck with google.

• C# How to find if an event is hooked up

  I want to be able to find out if an event is hooked up or not. I've looked around, but I've only found solutions that involved modifying the internals of the object that contains the event. I don't want to do this. Here is some test code that I thought would work: // Create a new event handler that takes in the function I want to execute when the event fires EventHandler myEventHandler = new EventHandler(myObject_SomeEvent); // Get "p1" number events that got hooked up to myEventHandler int p1 = myEventHandler.GetInvocationList().Length; // Now actually hook an event up myObject.SomeEvent += m_myEventHandler; // Re check "p2" number of events hooked up to myEventHandler int p2 = myEventHandler.GetInvocationList().Length; Unfort the above is dead wrong. I thought that somehow the "invocationList" in myEventHandler would automatically get updated when I hooked an event to it. But no, this is not the case. The length of this always comes back as one. Is there anyway to determine this from outside the object that contains the event?

• How do I configure a C# web service client to send HTTP request header and body in parallel?

  Hi, I am using a traditional C# web service client generated in VS2008 .Net 3.5, inheriting from SoapHttpClientProtocol. This is connecting to a remote web service written in Java. All configuration is done in code during client initialization, and can be seen below: ServicePointManager.Expect100Continue = false; ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = 10; var client = new APIService { EnableDecompression = true, Url = _url + "?guid=" + Guid.NewGuid(), Credentials = new NetworkCredential(user, password, null), PreAuthenticate = true, Timeout = 5000 // 5 sec }; It all works fine, but the time taken to execute the simplest method call is almost double the network ping time. Whereas a Java test client takes roughly the same as the network ping time: C# client ~ 550ms Java client ~ 340ms Network ping ~ 300ms After analyzing the TCP traffic for a session discovered the following: Basically, the C# client sent TCP packets in the following sequence. Client Send HTTP Headers in one packet. Client Waits For TCP ACK from server. Client Sends HTTP Body in one packet. Client Waits For TCP ACK from server. The Java client sent TCP packets in the following sequence. Client Sends HTTP Headers in one packet. Client Sends HTTP Body in one packet. Client Revieves ACK for first packet. Client Revieves ACK for second packet. Client Revieves ACK for second packet. Is there anyway to configure the C# web service client to send the header/body in parallel as the Java client appears to? Any help or pointers much appreciated.

• Google App Engine: JDO does the job, JPA does not

  I have setup a project using both Jdo and Jpa. I used Jpa Annotation to Declare my Entity. Then I setup my testCases based on LocalTestHelper (from Google App Engine Documentation). When I run the test, a call to makePersistent of Jdo:PersistenceManager is perfectly OK; a call to persist of Jpa:EntityManager raised an error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Type ("org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel") is not that of an entity but needs to be for this operation at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.assertEntity(EntityManagerImpl.java:888) at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.persist(EntityManagerImpl.java:385) Caused by: org.datanucleus.exceptions.NoPersistenceInformationException: The class "org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel" is required to be persistable yet no Meta-Data/Annotations can be found for this class. Please check that the Meta-Data/annotations is defined in a valid file location. at org.datanucleus.ObjectManagerImpl.assertClassPersistable(ObjectManagerImpl.java:3894) at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.assertEntity(EntityManagerImpl.java:884) ... 27 more How can it be the case? • Why is ExecuteFunction method only available through base.ExecuteFunction in a child class of Object

  I'm trying to call ObjectContext.ExecuteFunction from my objectcontext object in the repository of my site. The repository is generic, so all I have is an ObjectContext object, rather than one that actually represents my specific one from the Entity Framework. • Apache & SVN on Ubuntu - Post-commit hook fails silently, pre-commit hook "Permission Denied"

  I've been struggling for the past couple days to get post-commit email notifications working on my SVN server (running via HTTP with Apache2 on Ubuntu 9.10). SVN commits work fine, but for some reason the hooks are not being properly executed. Here are the configuration settings: - Users access the repo via HTTP with the apache dav_svn module (I created users/passwords via htpasswd in a dav_svn.passwd file). dav_svn.conf: <Location /svn/repos> DAV svn SVNPath /home/svn/repos AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion Repository" AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/dav_svn.passwd Require valid-user </Location> I created a post-commit hook file that writes a simple message to a file in the repository root: /home/svn/repos/hooks/post-commit: #!/bin/sh REPOS="$1" REV="$2" /bin/echo 'worked' > ${REPOS}/postcommit.log I set the entire repository to be owned by www-data (the apache user), and assigned 755 permissions to the post-commit script when I test the post-commit script using the www-data user in an empty environment, it works: sudo -u www-data env - /home/svn/repos/hooks/post-commit /home/svn/repos 7 But when I commit on a client machine, the commit is successful, but the post-commit script does not seem to be executed. I also tried running a simple script for the pre-commit hook, and I get an error, even with an empty pre-commit script: "Commit failed (details follow): Can't create null stdout for hook '/home/svn/repos/hooks/pre-commit': Permission denied" I did a few searches on Google for this error and I presume that this is an issue with the apache user (www-data) not having adequate permissions, specifically to execute /dev/null. I also read that the reason post-commit fails silently is because that it doesn't report with stdout. Anyway, I've also tried giving the apache user (www-data) ownership of the entire repository, and edited the apache virtualhost to allow operations on the server root, and I'm still getting permission denied /etc/apache2/sites-available/primarydomain.conf <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! • .NET Test Harness what should it have

  Hi Folks, We have a software house developing code for us on a project, .NET Web Service (WCF) and we are also paying for a test harness to be built as a separate billable task on a daily rate. I have just joined the company and am reviewing what we are getting from the software house and wanted to know what you guys in industry thought about it? Basically what we got was a WinForm that called the w/s that had an input area (Web Service Request) to drop our XML a Submit button along with a response area for the result of the Web Response and that's it... Our internal BA has created all the xml request documents so there was no logic put into the harness around this. Looking on the Net for a definition of a Test Harness I got this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Test_harness It states it should have these 3 below things: Automate the testing process. Execute test suites of test cases. Generate associated test reports. Clearly we have got none of this apart from a partial "Automate the testing process" via a WinForm. OK, from my development background I would expect someone to Produce a WinForm as a test harness 5 years ago and really should be using some sort of Tooling around this, I explicitly told the Software House I expected some sort of tooling (NUnit,NBUnit, SOAPIU) so we could create a regression test pack for future use. [Didn’t get it but I asked for this after the requirements were signed off as I wasn’t employed then :)] Would someone be able to clarify with me if my requirement for this is over realistic, I know if I did this, I would use NUnit and TDD and then reuse the test harness as a regression test pack in future? I am interested to see what the community thought. Cheers

• EF4 Generate Database

  Hi, I am trying my hardest to find the simplest way to create a basic "model first" entity framework example. However I am struggling with the actually generation of the database, particularly the running of the SQL against the database. Tools Visual Studio 2010 SQL Server 2008 Express Process Create a new class project Add a new Server-Database item (mdf) named "Database1.mdf" to the project Add an empty ADO.net Entity Model Create a simple entity (Person: Id, Name) Generate the Script selecting the Database1 connection created for me by visual studio Right click the script editor and select the "Execute SQL..." option Log in to SQLEXPRESS This is where is falls over saying it cant find a database name "Database1". The "problem" is that the SQL server has not had Database1 attached to it. I am 100% positive that Visual Studio use to attach a database to SQLExpress when it created a new database (Step 2). This appears to not be the case any more (even the beta of VS2010 did it). Can someone confirm this? or tell me how to get this to happen? Is there a way that I can modify the TSQL script to use an un-attached database. ie a file. I know I can use SQL Management Studio or sqlcmd to attach the database, but I would ideally like to avoid the solutions as I would like to see the cleanest method of just using visual studio. Ideal Solutions (in order of most prefered) Get visual studio to attach the newly created database Modify the generated SQL to point to file Thanks in advance.

• How to fetch distinct values in Core Data?

  So in looking through Core Data Snippets, I found the following code: ... This isn't defined or used anywhere NSArray *objects = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:&error]; if (objects == nil) { // handle the error } This is great and seems perfect for what I need...but how does one actually use it? I assume since it's returning dictionaries, I need a key to get at the values - but where's the key defined? Is that the "id requestedValue = nil" line? If so, how does "requestedValue" become the key? Xcode gives me a compiler warning about an unused variable at the "requestedValue" declaration. I feel like I'm missing something here. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

  I am using MySQL with Zend Framework & Doctrine 2. I think even if you don't use Doctrine 2, you will be familiar with errors like SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ASC' at line 1 The problem is that I don't see the full query. Without an ORM framework, I could probably echo the sql easily, but with a framework, how can I find out what SQL its trying to execute?
