• Enable proper relative path in cron

  I have 2 servers that are on completely separate OS' and configurations. One properly accepts require_once '../file.php'; and the other doesn't, because it's relative to where the cron is loading I guess. How can I fix the 2nd location so that it's relative path is from the relative path of the file. I need this to work in 3 different environments (local, beta, and live) so I don't want to write a bunch of code on this page, I'd prefer a configuration adjustment if possible.

• C# (non-abstract) class to represent paths

  I'm looking for a C# class that represents a file system path. I would like to use it (instead of strings) as the data type of variables and method arguments (top reasons: type safety, concat-proof, logical comparisons). System.IO.Path provides most of the functionality I want, but it is abstract. System.IO.FileInfo, as I understand, performs IO operations to do its job. I only want a wrapper for the path string. So are there any other ways of loading a class for the first time?

  This is a pretty noobish question – I'm looking at some Cocoa sample code and there's @interface blocks in the .m files as well as the headers. For instance, in the AppDelegate class header, a UIWindow and UI navigation are defined as instance variables, but the @property declarations are actually made in the implementation file. Is there a functional reason for this, is it a stylistic choice, or… ?

  I'm loading data from my database and I'm doing a sum calculation with a group by. ElectricityReading.sum(:electricity_value, :group => "electricity_timestamp", :having => ["electricity_timestamp = '2010-02-14 23:30:00'"]) My data sets are extremely large, 100k upwards so I was wondering if its possible to use the find_each to batch this to help with memory overhead. I can write the batching manually use limit and offset I guess but I'd like to avoid that if the code already exists.

  Hi - In my shell script, I am trying to search using terms found in a $sourcefile against the same $targetfile over and over. My $sourcefile is formatted as such: pattern1 pattern2 etc... The inefficient loop I have to search with is: for line in $(< $sourcefile);do fgrep $line $targetfile | fgrep "RID" >> $outputfile done I understand it would be possible to improve this by either loading the whole $targetfile into memory, or perhaps by using AWK? Since each thread has its own stack, the local variables that are created inside the thread is unique. In this case, why do we need to go for thread specific data mechanism?. • What is the difference between printf() and puts() in C?

  First up, I should let you know that I am learning C, so my apologies if this question seems stupid to a more advanced developer. I know you can print with printf() and puts(). I can also see that printf() allows you to embed variables inside and do some stuff like formatting. Is puts() merely a primitive version of printf(). Should it be used for every possible printf() without string interpolation? Thanks

  I have a class where I'm using __set. Because I don't want it to set just anything, I have an array of approved variables that it checks before it will actually set a class property. However, on construct, I want the __construct method to set several class properties, some of which are not in the approved list. So when construct happens, and I do $this->var = $value, I of course get my exception that I'm not allowed to set that variable. Can I get around this somehow?
