I'm a .NET developer learning Java EE. These two concepts seem to serve the same exact purposes in either system.
So which framework gets credit for inventing them?
Learning just another language is not much work. However, getting familiar with all the supporting libraries is veeeery expensive and actually you cannot go too far without that.
Would you consider a worthy career investment to learn java once you already are an accepted professional of .NET or you would rather invest the same amount of energy to get deeper in the things you already know?
I'm performing some custom js validation on my forms, triggered by submitting the form
$("form").submit(function (e) {
var validates = true;
// validation code goes in here
if (!validates) {
e.preventDefault();
e.stopImmediatePropagation();
return false;
}
})
None of the lines I've included to stop the submit event prevent the .NET control posting back. Is there some way (using js or setting a property in the updatepanel control) of stopping post back?
I'm trying to connect to an oracle database with .net but i get the error:
ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified
however, when I enter add a new database connection through toolsconnect to database. it works fine. even after copying the connection string which is:
Data Source=source here;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=userhere;Password=pass;Unicode=True
Actually its the mono version of asp.net, XSP.
In my begin request function i check the url and rewrite when necessary. In one case i do
context.RewritePath("~/App_Data/public" + path);
When i try to request images or anything i get a 404 instead of the content. Why?
I'm trying to make semantic urls for search pages, but if someone use a search finished in dot, the .net engine return a 404.
The request don't even get to the routing engine, so i think its something related to security or something like that.
For example, the stackoverflow routes also don't work in these case:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/etc.
Hi,
is there a way to draw mixed-formatted text in .Net 2.0? I'm looking for something similar to
System.Drawing.Graphics.DrawString()
My problem with this method is that it allows only one format style for the whole text. But I need to draw text that has different format styles (e.g. a part of the text shall be underlined, another part bold and so on).
Thanks a lot!
Oliver
Hello,
I am creating some cookies in my ASP.NET application. These cookies expire 10 minutes after they have been created. I follow the approach described on MSDN as shown here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.httpcookie.expires.aspx
My question is, when a cookie "expires", what happens? Does the browser automatically delete the cookie? Is it our responsibility as developers to remove the cookies if they exist and have expired?
Thank you,
Is possible define different profiles a the same time?
I have two type of users in my web site and they have different properties.
Using asp.net profile is possible to define two or more profiles with distinct properties?
Hi SO community
I have been issued a problem with security. A bank will not allow use of DLL's in the project. What sort of structure would be needed to allow DataAccess and or the use of external services (like an email client mailchimp, icontct).
has anyone else encountered this sort of problem before? If they have how should the project be structured (.net 3.5+).
Thanks,
KJ
I've been reading about MVC in which the authors suggest that testability is one of the major strengths of MVC. They go to compare it with ASP.NET WebForms and how difficult it is to test the code behind in WebForms.
I do understand it's difficult but can someone explain how unit tests were written to test code behind logic in the old days?

Request.RawUrl always returns the /default.aspx variant. I did not find any way at all to differentiate between these urls. Does anybody know how to do that?
Environment is .NET 3.5SP1 on IIS 7.
Hi Friends,
There are several resources available on net to upload multiple files,
but using multiple FileUpload controls.

In my 2nd ASP.NET MVC project I'm facing a very weird problem: when I call the SubmitChanges method of the DataContext class, nothing updates in the database. It's weird because everything works fine with my first project.
I'm using a remote database created in Sql Server Management Studio, I tried doing some queries there and in Visual Studio 2010 (where I have the connection to the database), they all work.
Where might the problem be hidden?

Hi,
I've seening quite a few posts on here regarding grids, but nothing specifically asking for a free grid component that supports editing.
Has any body come across such a thing? Is there a JQuery pluggin that I could use?
If not has anybody got any pointers on a good approach to writing my own (using asp.net mvc2 and/or jquery)?
Thanks in advance!
I'm working on an ASP.NET webapp using the MVP pattern, and as I'm organizing my files I'm wondering - are there conventions on folders within projects and how they relate to namespaces?
I have a bunch of controls and a bunch of pages, and I was going to throw them into Controls and Pages folders with subfolders, but I didn't know if it was bad form to do this if I wasn't also going to seperate them out into namespaces.
Thanks.
I am using ASP.NET Callbacks (that implements the ICallbackEventHandler) and in the handler, I try to set a value of the text box:
txtName.text = "Test";
but this value is not set. Is this a limitation with callback? It appears I cannot do much in a callback handler other than sending back a string to the client side (ofcourse I can access the Session etc)
I am using the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser object for displaying and printing a report. Unfortunately the Page Setup dialog is not obeying the language settings on the user's computer and all of the text is coming up in English. The .NET dialogs for opening and saving a file are coming up in the correct language but not the Printing/Page Setup dialogs for the Web Browser.
