  • Merging Two KML Files to Display Them with Different Marker Icons on Google Maps

    Let's say that I have two spreadsheets with addresses. I uploaded these spreadsheets into Google Fusion Tables, geocoded the addresses, and exported the results as KML files. Now, I want to take these two KML files and merge them, while maintaining the location data and using it to map the points with Google Maps. Well, I found a way to easily merge the KML files: import both of them into a "My Maps" map with Google Maps! However, my problem is this: when I do that, all of the locations in my data have the same marker icon on the map. From past experience, I know that these markers can be somehow defined inside the KML files. Is it possible to combine these two KML files while giving one's points one marker icon and the other's points another marker icon? Just in case my question is confusing, what I mean, is giving the first set of points blue markers, for example, and the other set of points red markers, so that they can be overlayed.

  • What parts should I get for an ASRock x58 Extreme motherboard

    I just received an ASRock x58 Extreme motherboard, for my post on this question. It was a 2009 Tom's Hardware recommended buy. It is a Core i7 motherboard, with an X58 Express Chipset. It uses DDR3 RAM. What I want to know is, what parts should I get to finish it off. I'm looking for some good bargains, because of a lack of funds. The most taxing game I will probably play on it is OpenTTD. The only parts I currently have that are compatible: A Dynex 400W power supply. It appears to be an ATX 2.1 power supply, with the addition of a -5 rail. Apparently designed to be compatible with most ATX-style motherboards. Several PCI add-in cards. Mostly 10/100 Network cards Some sound cards Some video cards with a VGA connector Plenty of PATA drives. 8 GB - 80 GB Hard-drives A dozen or-so CD-ROM drives, only a handful of them are CD-RW drives. One DVD-ROM drive I have one LCD, with a 15 pin VGA connector, which I salvaged from the dump. The only thing wrong with it was some dead capacitors. It also has a stuck pixel.

  • Laptop GPU apparently blew up, motherboard doesn't even turn on its power LED. [But..]

    EDIT: (Was: Laptop automatic shutdown after 2 seconds) If I take out the GPU, the motherboard LED turns on but then [if it attempts to power up and boot] it turns off after 2 seconds [fans turn on normally in that short period]. [Without the GPUs out there's not even an attempt to boot.] It's an SLI motherboard for a toshiba (model X200-219). If I take out one of the GPUs (they are on top of each other) it surprisingly lets the motherboard turn on too (as it is if both are out) but it still turns off after 2-3 seconds, same behavior. I wonder if it's the GPU that produces the 'turn off after being on' behavior and not something else. [Has anyone seen this behavior with blown up GPUs or could it be something else?] Previous question (before EDIT. Sorry, but someone thought it productive to lock the other one as duplicate): I'm trying to insvestigate which component produces this behavior. Other indications show it may be the GPU but I wonder if anyone knows more. It's a Toshiba Satellite X200 description: AC power shows the power being fed normally, when turned on the fan works and it appears to be starting up but after 2 seconds it shuts down with only the 'AC power connected" led on. -- seconds are about up to 4,maybe not 2 exactly.

  • How to sniff for wireless MAC addresses in area - My laptop got stolen

    A few days ago my apartment got broken in, and they took all the electronics, including my $1500 laptop. We are pretty sure it's an inside job (as in someone from the same building), so I believe that the stuff is in someones apartment. Is there any tool that tells you what wireless adapters are active within range? I have my laptops MAC address, so I could use that to find out who stole it. I think it's worth a shot. Any help is appreciated thanks!

  • Streaming flash video does not work on my Mac OS X

    Flash videos do not work properly on my Mac. On this Vimeo video, for example, it shows only the beginning frame, and audio stutters like crazy, playing audio for a quarter second or so, then silence, then playing again, etc. I have Flash version 10,0,42,34 on Mac OS 10.5.8. It's a PowerBook G4 (PPC). I tried it in Firefox 3.5.5 and Safari 4.0.3. I tried reinstalling Flash, restarting the computer, and using a fresh user profile in Firefox (so that no extensions are interfering with the site), loading the video fully before playing, but nothing helps. I noticed that youtube videos work better, once loaded enough, although the picture does halt briefly once every 10 or so seconds, even when it's fully loaded.

  • Unable to activate Windows XP

    The latest round of Patch Tuesday updates left my Windows XP computer unbootable. ("Fatal System Error: The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly.") After much messing around with the recovery console, an XP CD's repair mode, and manually copying registry files around, I have a system that can boot again. However, I overwrote my OEM XP installation's activation information while trying to run a retail XP CD's setup, so it needs reactivation. Here's my problem: I cannot activate it at all. I log in, Windows tells me I have to activate to continue, I click Yes, and absolutely nothing happens: no windows, no response to keyboard or mouse, no response to Ctrl-Alt-Del, nothing. Safe mode works, but I can't activate in safe mode (EDIT: not even safe mode with networking). I read a trick online of pressing [Windows Key]+U to bring up the Microsoft Narrator, and that works, but clicking its Microsoft Web Site link does nothing. My last attempt to resolve this was to reinstall Windows off of the OEM CD. Now I have two parallel Windows installations, both on the same hard drive, one with all of my stuff and no way to activate it, one fully activated with no usable programs. Any ideas? Any way to activate in safe mode? Any way to copy activation information from my activated installation to my unactivated installation (since they're both on the same hard drive)?

  • Advice needed for a home network setup (hardware & software) to handle many clients and potentially heavy traffic

    I have recently decided to re-structure the home network of our flatshare here. Here's a quick outline of the situation. I envision to have the following 4 devices connected to the router via cable: Xbox 360 IP phone Printer QNAP server (Web, File and Multimedia) We are three people living here, so on top of that there will be to 5-6 computers/mobile devices connecting as wireless clients. My goal is to be able to transfer files (when needed) between the computer and the Multimedia server, which I can reach via 360 and play on the TV. I also would like to keep a high level of security; right now I have the encryption on WPA2 and MAC filtering. I don't believe the web server will get heavy traffic, though I would like to have it responsive. Likewise, I don't have a habit of downloading via torrent etc, but I greatly appreciate my network being responsive and fast, especially when I am browsing or streaming high quality media. Now my questions are: is this setup feasible? smart? efficient? can this be improved somehow? my current router (D-Link DI624) and the previous one (DI-524) used to have spontaneous drops in network, which I find highly irritating. I don't believe in my router, especially now that it completely crashed when I was test-running the setup by transferring a large media file to server while xbox was playing music from the server, and two computers browsing the net. Do I need to get new hardware, if so, any recommendations for a reliable and fast router?

    Update #3: Starting over from scratch, shortened this post, decided to re-install a clean copy of Ubuntu 10.04 on a VM and go through the walk-through again. So, all the steps go without a hitch.   • How to edit a read-only document in LibreOffice?

    I need to fill a form (which I received in .doc format and saved as .odt). The file is read-only except for the fields where I can enter the information. Unfortunately, with the fields filled it doesn't fit on one page, and I need to edit it so I can print and submit it. With LibreOffice beta 3, I could edit anything outside of the fields, and the fonts were slightly smaller, so it fit on the page even with the fields filled. Today I upgraded LibreOffice, and when I opened to edit a field where I had a mistake, it no longer fits on the page, and I can't edit it. When I opened the properties it says that the document is NOT read-only, but it is. When I try to delete text it tells me that I can't edit the read-only content. Can anyone give me some advice, because I've been trying to print my form for 2 hours already. I tried AbiWord and KWord, but both are missing elements from the page (though the forms fit). I can also edit the margins (Format - Page is dimmed, but when I begin to edit a field it's no longer dimmed)med

  • Windows 7 Keeps Changing the MBR on boot

    I am having an issue with Windows 7 changing the boot order everytime I start up. I have 4 partitions: boot linux windows. Grub is installed on the boot, and boots up both operating systems fine, however when I boot to Windows the bootable partition is changed to Windows and the MBR is rewritten. How do I stop this? Its rather annoying to have to boot, chroot and fix this problem everytime. I also don't want to use the Windows boot select.

  • Configure Mouse Buttons for "Administrator"/Elevated privileges

    I am, for better or worse, an administrator on my Windows 7 machine. However, even then, I still need to run certain programs "as Administrator" - for example, Visual Studio 2008 when working with local IIS sites. I also like to have the extra buttons on my IntelliMouse Optical doing non-standard things, like representing Ctrl and Shift. However, when in VS running as administrator, these settings aren't picked up, just like my mapped drives aren't picked up - I would understand this if I was logging in as a different user, supplying credentials, etc, but I'm not, I'm just pressing "Yes" at the UAC prompt. Normally, I'd just right click the item in the start menu and select "Run as administrator", but that's not an option on the context menu for either the Microsoft IntelliPoint Mouse application that appears under "Programs", nor the "Mouse" control panel item. Running the control panel as administrator also doesn't seem to help. So has any one got any suggestions on how I can configure my mouse buttons for the elevated version of me that Visual Studio is running as?

  • My datacard goes online but doesn't gives internet access (Fedora 14).

    I am using MTS datacard. I have usb_modeswitch installed and have configured the wvdial.conf file. When I do sudo wvdial cdma, the IPs and DNS addresses are also allocated but I still cant access internet.   • Uninstall Adobe Flash C4 from mac

    I've installed a trial of Adobe Flash CS4 (i didn't use this trial till the end) and wrongly entered the expired license number. I ran uninstall and tried to install a trial version again. Seems, that it keeps somewhere the wrong serial number and each time i run the Flash application it alerts me, that the license has expired. How do i properly install the trial?   • Making sense of S.M.A.R.T

    First of all, I think everyone knows that hard drives fail a lot more than the manufacturers would like to admit. Google did a study that indicates that certain raw data attributes that the S.M.A.R.T status of hard drives reports can have a strong correlation with the future failure of the drive. We find, for example, that after their first scan error, drives are 39 times more likely to fail within 60 days than drives with no such errors. First errors in re- allocations, offline reallocations, and probational counts are also strongly correlated to higher failure probabil- ities. Despite those strong correlations, we find that failure prediction models based on SMART parameters alone are likely to be severely limited in their prediction accuracy, given that a large fraction of our failed drives have shown no SMART error signals whatsoever. Seagate seems like it is trying to obscure this information about their drives by claiming that only their software can accurately determine the accurate status of their drive and by the way their software will not tell you the raw data values for the S.M.A.R.T attributes. Western digital has made no such claim to my knowledge but their status reporting tool does not appear to report raw data values either. I've been using HDtune and smartctl from smartmontools in order to gather the raw data values for each attribute. I've found that indeed... I am comparing apples to oranges when it comes to certain attributes. I've found for example that most Seagate drives will report that they have many millions of read errors while western digital 99% of the time shows 0 for read errors. I've also found that Seagate will report many millions of seek errors while Western Digital always seems to report 0. Now for my question. How do I normalize this data? Is Seagate producing millions of errors while Western digital is producing none? Wikipedia's article on S.M.A.R.T status says that manufacturers have different ways of reporting this data. Here is my hypothesis: I think I found a way to normalize (is that the right term?) the data. Seagate drives have an additional attribute that Western Digital drives do not have (Hardware ECC Recovered). When you subtract the Read error count from the ECC Recovered count, you'll probably end up with 0. This seems to be equivalent to Western Digitals reported "Read Error" count. This means that Western Digital only reports read errors that it cannot correct while Seagate counts up all read errors and tells you how many of those it was able to fix. I had a Seagate drive where the ECC Recovered count was less than the Read error count and I noticed that many of my files were becoming corrupt. This is how I came up with my hypothesis. The millions of seek errors that Seagate produces are still a mystery to me. Please confirm or correct my hypothesis if you have additional information.   • Redirecting X output

    Hi, I have a small program that checks some elements of a web service. The program shows graphics output and displays commmand-line results as well. I have been trying to automate this program to run periodically on a server in my office. Problem is, It only works when I have X enabled - either directly on the server, or via ssh -X. Following Google, I have tried Xvfb, which gave me quite cryptic error message: Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1600x1200x32 Fatal server error: Server is already active for display 1 If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X1-lock and start again. Any ideas how to run it? I'm actually looking for the X equivalent of &>/dev/null... Thanks in advance, Adam

  • Migrating Outlook data with oracle connector for outlook

I recently bought a new system and I want to transfer al my email(the one that uses oracle connector) to another system with all the same settings.
