  hi all, In my App, first it shows a splash screen. after that another activity, then my main activity must be show. this is my design plan. the second activity(i.e before main activity) must be show for the first time user of the app. if he/she closes the app.splash screen will redirect to main activity automatically. how to do this ? • Java long task - Did it stop writing to file?

  I am writing a lot of data to a file, and while keeping my eye on the file it eventually stopped growing in size. Essentially my task is getting information from a database, and printing out all non-unique values in column A. Since there are many rows to the database table, and the database table is across my network, this is taking days to complete. Thus I'm concerned that since the file isn't growing, that it isn't actually writing to the file anymore. Which is odd, I have no "catch"'s in my code, so if there was a problem writing to file, wouldn't it have thrown an error?! Should I let the task complete (estimate 2-3 days from today), or is there something else that I don't know going on here making my application not write to the file?! my algorithm goes something like this Declare file Create new file Open file for writing get database connection get resultset from database for each row in the resultset - write column "A" to file - if row# % 100000 then write to screen "completed " + row# + " rows" when no more rows exist close file write to screen - "completed"

  I've coded my game for 320x480 and I figure that the easiest way to support multiple resolutions is to scale the end image. What are your thoughts on this? Would it be cpu efficient to do it this way? I have all my images placed in the mdpi folder, I'll have it drawn unscaled on the screen onto a buffer, then scale it to fit the screen. all the user inputs will be scaled as well. I have these 2 questions: -How do you draw a bitmap without android automatically scaling it -How do you scale a bitmap?

• Socket left in TIME_WAIT after file transfer via netcat

  Using Copying by NetCat I am trying to copy files throught network by NetCat. From console it work pretty well. First I run listening netcat on the destination machine and after I run sending on source machine. The problem is it's doen't work from script from the source machine: ssh -f user@$desthost 'nc -l 1234 | tar xvf - /dev/null &' #listening on destination host tar cv /tmp/file | nc $desthost 1234 #sending to destination host I saw that after running port 1234 is still was open and status of the socket was TIME_WAIT. If you know what's the problem, please, help me out. And by the way, after copying how can I validate that the content is identical? Thanks!   I have a Samsung LD220Z multi touch monitor, and when I'm experimenting with some WPF and touch features the touch events arent firing. The mouse down event seems to be firing however. Does this mean that I have to take into account that not all touch screen behave the same, and how do I get the touch inputs on my screen? I've tried the Windows 7 Touch pack that microsoft released. And the multi touch features seems to work there. Any suggestion on how to proceed with this?

• Trouble with FGLRX in quantal x86_64

  it's the third time i have to reinstall quantal because the fglrx is making me sick. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 (the code ir RS880).When i install Ati Driver, i don't have any problems, but when i reboot, the resolution is minimal and the launcher isn't visible, i can only use the things that are in desktop and use the terminal using CTRL+ALT+T. i've tried to make specific distribution page, downloading the legacy driver from AMD, and another thing: when i had 12.04 jockey told me that i could install some drivers, i had trouble, but that doesn't matter. now, the option to install drivers doesn't tell me about any drivers, i mean, its blank. At the moment i'm using the free drivers (Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880M. is there any alternative ? or i'll have to live with the free drivers ? Thanks a lot ! I KNOW I HAVE TO INSTALL LEGACY DRIVERS, I'VE INSTALLED THEM, THEY DON'T WORK.

  I´m coding a little app that allows the user to draw multiple shapes and then remove or resize them. It´s working perfectly on rectangles and ovals, but I´m having issues with lines. Here´s a method that I wrote to find if the clicked spot on the screen is part of a specific line: public boolean containsLocation(int x, int y) { int m = (getY2() - getY()) / (getX2() - getX()); int b = getY() - (m * getX()); if (y == (m * x) + b) { return true; } return false; I´m using the famous y = mx + b formula and replacing y and x to find if the clicked spot is part of the line. The problem is when I click on the screen to remove the line, it only works if I click on the very fist coordinate (x,y) where the line starts. Nothing happens when I click anywhere else along the line. Can anyone shed a light on what I´m doing wrong? Thanks a lot.

• in jqgrid, how can i have the editform disappear after submit

  right now, when i click submit it sends a message to the server and updates the databased and refreshes the screen but it keeps the edit form popup on the screen.   I have installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my desktop. (Pentium 4, 80 GB hard disk, 2 GB RAM, 32-bit CPU.) And I have installed Windows XP. I made a 40 GB partition for windows and 40 GB for Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu and it said "installation is complete" and asked me to restart. I restarted the PC and logged in. • "BAD idea" warning when trying to recover Grub, after Windows removed it

  Tried sudo grub-install on sda1 but it complained about being a BAD IDEA. I had to install windows for a work related issue so I used a separate disk (I had used it for ubuntu on this computer, but bought a bigger disk so installed ubuntu on that and left the old one in in case I needed an old file). Windows installed fine but overwrote Grub. So if I choose the Ubuntu disk to boot first in BIOS I get a blank screen. I googled and followed this advice: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows However, when I get down to this section: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/0d104aff-ec8c-44c8-b811-92b993823444 /dev/sda1 I get this: Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of the MBR. This is a BAD idea… --recheck does nothing. Any ideas?

  i'm pretty sure this can be done pretty easily with jquery's animate api, but i'm not good enough to figure it out. what i want to do is this: i have a menu item at the top of the viewport that the user will click on. when the user clicks on it, you'll see something that looks like the div "popping" out of the menu and float to a particular location on the screen. when i say popping i don't mean anything fancy - i just mean it appears to be originating from the menu item and settling somewhere on the screen that i specify. but the important part is that this animation happens really fast. fast enough where you don't have to actually wait for the window to appear, but slow enough so the eye sees the animation start from the menu item and end up at a new location where the window will actually appear, and appear with a specify height and width. hope that all made sense?

  I am trying to connect my laptop (Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook) to my TV (Toshiba WLT66/67 Series) and get it to output to the TV at 1080i (so basically 1920x1080) through HDMI The issue I have is that in 'Displays' the highest resolution that it gives the monitor is 1280x768, however I know that the TV can output at 1920x1080 at 30Hz as when I use Windows 7 it allows me to do this. Unity and Dash are not loaded, hence not able to close any page opened by right clicking on blank desktop and entering into 'change desktop background'. Live wall papers are working but the setting page is not closing as no buttons are available on the panel. I removed Ubuntu 13.10 and tried with 13.04 / 12.10 / 12.04 / 11.10 and 11.04. • How do I reset my display settings from the command line?

  I'm running 12.10 on a dell e5400 laptop and I used xrandr to get the dual monitors working that I connect through a laptop dock. I used xrandr again to switch back to the laptop display when I undocked. The problem is, after a restart, the laptop seems to want to come back up with the dual monitor configuration and the laptop screen stays blank. I can boot into single user mode but I'm not sure what to do from there to get the display settings reset. Any ideas? There's no xorg.conf file so I'm not sure where the settings are stored anymore. A simple example would be the below function: function returns string get_item_type(int type_no) { if(type_no < 10) return "hockey stick" else if (type_no < 20) return "bulldozer" else return "unknown" } (excuse the dismal pseudo code) No matter what number is supplied all possibiblites are catered for. My question is: is there a word to fill the blank here: "get_item_type() is ______ complete" ? (The answer is not Turing Complete - that is something quite different - but I annoyingly always think of something as "Turing Complete" when I am thinking of the above).

  So, I want to create a reusable widget as a xib and subview that can appear on a set amount of specific screens. This widget will have three buttons, each with an Action. I want to be able to handle these actions on multiple viewcontrollers. So say ViewControllerA, ViewControllerD, and ViewControllerF can handle the three button events, each in their own way. I've created the nib file. How do I import it into the specific viewcontrollers, and then how do I wire up those events? EDIT: I know that I could potentially get outlets set up via a viewcontroller, but Apple states that UIViewController is for full-screen views only, and my widget is only taking up a small portion of the screen.

  I am writing a virtual desktop application which utilises the DeferWindowPos API functions. The current method I am using is moving the windows off the screen if they're not on the current virtual desktop. However I know wish to also hide the windows that are off-screen so they do not appear on the task bar. I have attempted this by also passing SWP_SHOWWINDOW/SWP_HIDEWINDOW to the DeferWindowPos() calls. I have read a few sites regarding this and one of them suggested that if SWP_SHOWWINDOW/SWP_HIDEWINDOW are passed, then the window will only show or hide, and no reposition. Can anyone confirm this, or am I doing something wrong?

• Installed Ubuntu 14.04. How do I get it working with my new AMD R9 280X. When I run it I get garbage on the display

  I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my Gigabyte A88X FM2+ motherboard and A10 7700K processor. Everything worked perfectly. This system is dual booted with Windows 8.1 for gaming and I installed subsequently I installed an AMD r9 280X gpu. Windows was easy. It kept working with the new card installed and I just needed to download and instal the driver. Reboot and it's done. Ubuntu boots into a blank display. I enter the password and can log in. The menu on the left and bar at the top are visible but when I try to open an app, I get blocks and rubbish on the display. My preference is not to remove the card. So, my question is: What would be the procedure I could follow where I can log in using a text based terminal and download and install the AMD drivers.
