• How do I add "Press any key to boot from usb" when installing Windows from a flash drive? (Grub4dos question / how to remove a bootloader)

  Hi there! I've been struggling with this problem for a while now and finially decided to ask for help. Let me first explain what the main purpose of the app is: to provide the a very easy to use way of backing up files, after which I format the drive and start Windows 7 setup. I do this by booting WinPE, which runs a script to detect Windows installations and then opens a file browser. After the file browser is closed, the script continues and formats the drive that contains the Windows installation, and starts an unattended Windows 7 install. Now here is the problem: When you start Windows setup or WinPE from a dvd, you get a nice option to "Press any key to boot from DVD". This is to prevent the computer from booting the DVD when the first phase of the installation is complete and the computer reboots. However, when booting from a flash drive, Windows does not provide this option: it simply boots the flash drive every reboot. To replicate the "press any key" function, I installed Grub4Dos, which works great. It provides a small menu, the first standard item being "Continue installation", the second being "start installation". After quite a lot of tweaking, I got everything working: Start installation starts WinPE, which in turn starts the Windows installation. At first reboot, the Grub4Dos menu comes up, counts 5 seconds and boots the second stage of the installation. Here, I am greeted with the error: "Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware." When I boot into WinPE the normal way (put the bootmgr on the stick root) and change my bios to boot from the primary hdd after first reboot, I don't get this error. I've been looking around, and the only thing I could find was that the BIOS automatically names the boot device hd0, and that Windows can only be run / installed to hd 0. I'm not sure if this is the problem. I read about remapping to solve this problem, but to do that you have to know the phisical location of the hard drive and partition, like hd(0,1). I want this flash drive to work on any PC, regardless of where the OS is installed, so that's not really a possibility. A possible fix I thought of is removing the bootloader from the flash drive when I'm in WinPE. That way, when the pc reboots the BIOS will not see the flash drive as a boot drive and instead boot the primary hdd. I have yet to find a way to do this.   Hi, I'm pretty new to C# and asp.net so aplogies if this is a really stupid question. I'm using a grid view to display a number of records from a database. Each row has an Edit Button. When the button is clicked I want an ID to be passed back to a funtion in my .cs file. How do I bind the rowID to the Button field?   I have an older laptop that I won't get around to replacing for another month or two. It has 1GB of memory so I'm trying to squeeze applications as much as possible. In Visual Studio 2010, it has apparently loaded some extensions related to Team Foundation Server, since I have menu items and dialog choices for it. Questions: Would I save a noticable amount of memory (even a couple of MB would be good) if I managed to disable this? How do I disable it?

  I've got a task to display painted 'eyes' with menu buttons to change their colors, and background color. Next animate them. But currently I'm stuck at painting, sinc in my JFrame I've Created JPanel containing panels with drawn eyes and buttons. Buttons are rendered properly but my eyes canvas is not shown. • Cannot Start Nginx Compiled from Source

  I am trying to compile Nginx from source based on the original compiled Nginx server running on my DigitalOcean server ( Ubuntu-14.04 64x ) but with a few extra modules. I can get everything installed smoothly but I can not get it to start. I am sure the ini is correct because I copied the original source off the current running Nginx server [ Even though I see that Nginx now adds the ini when compiling fron source ]. And now to start the server: service nginx start And this is where s#!+ hits the fan - Nada. I check to see if Nginx is running with service --status-all and its not. Also with nginx -V and its not installed??? I reboot the system too and still nothing. So I am not sure what is wrong here. The ini was copied over from the old server along with all the other config files after deleting the old files. When I opened the new compiled files, the nginx default data was present so I replaced them with my old original data prior to starting the new server for the first time. Also to be safe, I rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default and symlinked with ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/default /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with no errors and I verified that the data was in the sites-enabled/default file. I don't think the server really/fully installed because of the nginx -V result: The program 'nginx' can be found in the following packages: * nginx-core * nginx-extras * nginx-full * nginx-light * nginx-naxsi Try: apt-get install <selected package> Do/should I apt-get install nginx-1.7.4 ?? Or what package do I use being that its a custom package and make install earlier did nothing?? • CopSSH SFTP -- limit users access to their home directory only

  Let me preface this by saying I've read and followed these instructions at the FAQ many times: http://www.itefix.no/i2/node/37 It does not do what the title claims... It allows every user access to every other user's home directory, as well as access to all subfolders below the copssh installation path. I'm only using this for SFTP access and I need my users to be sandboxed into only their home directory. If you know a fool-proof way to lock users down so they can see only their home directory and its subfolders, stop reading now and reply with the solution. The details: Here is exactly what i tried as I followed the FAQ. My copSSH installation directory is: C:\Program Files\CopSSH net localgroup sftp_users /ADD **Create a user group to hold all my SFTP users cacls c:\ /c /e /t /d sftp_users **For that group, deny access at the top level and all levels below cacls "C:\Program Files\CopSSH" /c /e /t /r sftp_users **Allow my user group access to the copSSH installation directory and its subdirectories For each sftp user, I create a new windows user account, then I: net localgroup sftp_users sftp_user_1 /add **Add my user to the group I've created Open the activate user wizard for CopSSH, choosing the user, "/bin/sftponly" and Remove copssh home directory if it exists **Remains checked Create keys for public key authentication **Remains checked Create link to user's real home directory **Remains checked This works, however, every user has access to every other user's home directory as well as the CopSSH root directory.... So I tried denying access for all users to the user home directory: cacls "C:\Program Files\CopSSH\home" /c /e /t /d sftp_users **Deny access for users to the user home directory Then I tried adding permissions on a user-by-user basis for each users home\username folder. However,these permission were not allowed by windows because of the above deny rule i created at the home directory was being inherited and over-riding my allow rule. The next step for me would be to remove the deny rule at the home directory and for each user folder, add a deny rule for every user it doesn't belong to, and add an allow rule for the one user it does belong to.   Hi, First of, i'm a webdeveloper and my server experience lies in setting up FreeBSD servers for webserver. I'm working on a project for at photographer, and i'm hired to develop a new online photo ordering system - where user of course can view their photos :) They have a massive need of storage, thus we have bought a HP G6 and 8x1TB SATA HDD. Our plan is to install VMWare ESX 4.0, running multiple virtual machines; FreeBSD 8 for webserver and some windows servers. Allready done that. Then mount one big storage to the BSD, and share it through Samba to the WinServers. The raid is set up with an array of 2x 1TB to handle the VMs. And the rest is setup as 3 2x1TB to handle the photo-data. Thus 2.73TB for photo-data (the raids are 1+0). Now if we add a datastore in the ESX and add the 3 LUNs we can get a datastore of 2.74TB. But i don't se how i can add this datastore direct to the VM. Only the BSD VM needs access to this. Only way is to create a VirtualDisk, with a max of 2TB (8MB blocksize). This is because the datastore where we save the virtualdisk has a maximum filesize of 2TB. Then add it as a harddisk to the BSD VM. In the 'Add Harddisk' pane for the VM, i see an option for Raw Disk Management. I think this is to access the datastore or the raid directly. Only problem is that its greyed out! Can i access the datastorage directly from the BSD? Without creating and adding virtualdisk.

• Windows Question: RunOnce/Second Boot Issues

  I am attempting to create a Windows XP SP3 image that will run my application on Second Boot. Here is the intended workflow. 1) Run Image Prep Utility (I wrote) on windows to add my runonce entries and clean a few things up. 2) Reboot to ghost, make image file. 3) Package into my ISO and distribute. 4) System will be imaged by user. 5) On first boot, I have about 5 things that run, one of which includes a driver updater (I wrote) for my own specific devices. 6) One of the entries inside of HKCU/../runonce is a reg file, which adds another key to HKLM/../runonce. This is how second boot is acquired. 7) As a result of the driver updater, user is prompted to reboot. 8) My application is then launched from HKLM/../runonce on second boot. This workflow works perfectly, except for a select few legacy systems that contain devices that cause the add hardware wizard to pop up. When the add hardware wizard pops up is when I begin to see problems. It's important to note, that if I manually inspect the registry after the add hardware wizard pops up, it appears as I would expect, with all the first boot scripts having run, and it's sitting in a state I would correctly expect it to be in for a second boot scenario. The problem comes when I click next on the add hardware wizard, it seems to re-run the single entry I've added, and re-executes the runonce scripts. (only one script now as it's already executed and cleared out the initial entries). This causes my application to open as if it were a second boot, only when next is clicked on the add hardware wizard. If I click cancel, and reboot, then it also works as expected. I don't care as much about other solutions, because I could design a system that doesn't fully rely on Microsoft's registry. I simply can't find any information as to WHY this is happening. I believe this is some type of Microsoft issue that's presenting itself as a result of an overstretched image that's expected to support too many legacy platforms, but any help that can be provided would be appreciated. Error: either "to" is duplicate or "default" is garbage." It doesn't want to add the static route because it's in conflict with the default route. Is there a way around this? Regards Ossan

  I am experiencing an annoying problem with sshuttle running it on 10.7.3, MBA with the latest firmware update -- after I stop it (ctrl+c twice), or loose connection, or close the lid, I cannot restore it until I restart the system. The restarting takes notably more time, than it would normally take. I have tried to flush ipfw rules - not helping. Could you advice me how to restore sshuttle connection (without restarting os)? • How to remove that extra text from URL titles in Firefox browser?

  I am using Firefox with Vimperator. On Mac I use Shiori to bookmark. I also use Pinboard's default add-on (on both Mac and Windows, but mainly on Windows as there's no Shiori). When I used to bookmark, I had this behaviour[A] (before changing Vimperator options): Example: URL: xyz.com TITLE: xyz website Pinboard add-on would fetch the title as xyz website which was fine (I reckon it directly fetches TITLE form the URL). But after installing and starting to use Shiori the title I was getting in its "title" field was xyz website - Vimperator exactly the same what I could see in tabs (seems it's getting what the browser is feeding it). So, I :set titlestring= in Vimperator to remove that extra Vimperator from title. Now, this is what I am getting [B]: When I try to bookmark using Pinboard add-on the title is undefined Using Shiori it results in xyz website - undefined. I tried to change it back to original[C] :set titlestring=Mozilla Firefox (assuming this was the original, before Vimperator) but the results are still the same as [B]. How to get read of that extra - undefined or that extra - Vimperator or - Mozilla Firefox for that matter, while bookmarking pages either with Pinboard add-on or Shiori? One workaround is, instead of no string just add a white-space while setting title in Firefox via Vimperator there but that results in - appended to titles.
