  • How can I delete a file in Sinatra after it has been sent via send_file?

    I have a simple sinatra application that needs to generate a file (via an external process), send that file to the browser, and finally, delete the file from the filesystem. Something along these lines: class MyApp < Sinatra::Base get '/generate-file' do # calls out to an external process, # and returns the path to the generated file file_path = generate_the_file() # send the file to the browser send_file(file_path) # remove the generated file, so we don't # completely fill up the filesystem. File.delete(file_path) # File.delete is never called. end end It seems, however, that the send_file call completes the request, and any code after it does not get run. Is there some way to ensure that the generated file is cleaned up after it has been successfully sent to the browser? Or will I need to resort to a cron job running a cleanup script on some interval?

  • UnicodeEncodeError when uploading files in Django admin

    Note: I asked this question on StackOverflow, but I realize this might be a more proper place to ask this kind of question. I'm trying to upload a file called 'Testaråäö.txt' via the Django admin app. I'm running Django 1.3.1 with Gunicorn 0.13.4 and Nginx 0.7.6.7 on a Debian 6 server. Database is PostgreSQL 8.4.9. Other Unicode data is saved to the database with no problem, so I guess the problem must be with the filesystem somehow. I've set http { charset utf-8; } in my nginx.conf. LC_ALL and LANG is set to 'sv_SE.UTF-8'. Running 'locale' verifies this. I even tried setting LC_ALL and LANG in my nginx init script just to make sure locale is set properly. Yes, I can read the file by creating an instance of Excel, but I rather not.. Any idea how I can read the xls using OleDb without making manual changes to the xls or by playing with ranges in a instanciated Excel? Regards, Michel

  • OO Design - polymorphism - how to design for handing streams of different file types

    I've little experience with advanced OO practices, and I want to design this properly as an exercise. I'm thinking of implementing the following, and I'm asking if I'm going about this the right way. I have a class PImage that holds the raw data and some information I need for an image file. Its header is currently something like this: #include <boost/filesytem.hpp> #include <vector> namespace fs = boost::filesystem; class PImage { public: PImage(const fs::path& path, const unsigned char* buffer, int bufferLen); const vector<char> data() const { return data_; } const char* rawData() const { return &data_[0]; } /*** other assorted accessors ***/ private: fs::path path_; int width_; int height_; int filesize_; vector<char> data_; } I want to fill the width_ and height_ by looking through the file's header. The trivial/inelegant solution would be to have a lot of messy control flow that identifies the type of image file (.gif, .jpg, .png, etc) and then parse the header accordingly. Instead of using vector<char> data_, I was thinking of having PImage use a class, RawImageStream data_ that inherits from vector<char>. Each type of file I plan to support would then inherit from RawImageStream, e.g. RawGifStream, RawPngStream. Each RawXYZStream would encapsulate the respective header-parsing functions, and PImage would only have to do something like height_ = data_.getHeight();. Am I thinking this through correctly? How would I create the proper RawImageStream subclass for data_ to be in the PImage ctor? Is this where I could use an object factory? Anything I'm forgetting?

    My last question "List service and services status under Win-7" made me start working on a solution that gives my app the admin privileges under Windows Vista onward based on a .manifest file. I was not sure about continue the previous question with this matter since they are not the same so here is another question: My app now works fine under Win 7 whether or not I run it "as admin" because of the manifest file. The other and bigest problem is, even thou the app runs with no problem under Win7 or Vista, under WinXP it is now crashing with the message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." Another thing I would like to add: If I add reference (uses clause) to XPMan the app works fine on WinXP but then it my .manifest file makes no diference under Vista or Win7.

    Our web service wraps around a third party library that contains the following code. We are using an Active Directory service account in the IIS 6 app pool (no interactive login abilities). Our service fails with the error “The system cannot find the file specified”. We’ve traced the error to the “RSACryptoServiceProvider provider = new RSACryptoServiceProvider();”. The third party assembly depends on a x509 file based certificate for its encryption process and the Service Account has Read / Write access to the keys folder. Additionally, the service account has Read, Write, Modify rights to “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\MachineKeys”. I use the following method to accomplish this: taskkill /f /im explorer.exe >nul explorer.exe :: I have also tried: %winDir%\explorer.exe :: start %winDir%\explorer.exe :: start /b %winDir%\explorer.exe :: start /d %winDir%\explorer.exe (as suggested by panda-34) :: :: I've even tried delaying the above commands with: ping localhost -n 11 >nul Then this happens: explorer.exe is successfully terminated (denoted by the lack of taskbar and desktop) An explorer window opens, which I am left with indefinitely (see Image 1) I can only then restart explorer by manually starting a new process from Task Manager (Win + R doesn't respond), even though explorer.exe is actually already in the process list, strangely enough.. (see Image 2)   Now, I say "kind of" as I'm running the batch file from a self-executing SFX archive, created with WinRAR. When executed, the contents of the archive are extracted to %temp% and a user-defined bootstrapper (in this case, my batch file) is run upon successful extraction. The strangest thing about it, though, is that if you manually extract the contents of the archive and run the batch file then explorer restarts correctly. It only ever glitches when called from an SFX.     Building a solution containing a web application project using MSBuild from powershell like this: msbuild "/p:OutDir=$build_dir\" $solution_file Works fine for me on 32-bit, but on a 64-bit machine I am running into this error: error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and powershell v2. The problem has already been documented here and here. Basically on 64-bit install of VS, the Microsoft.WebApplication.targets needed by MSBuild is in the Program Files(x86) dir, not the Program Files dir, but MSBuild doesn't recognise this and so looks in the wrong place. The two solutions are not ideal: Manually copy the file on 64-bit from Program Files(x86) to Program Files. This is a poor solution - every dev will have to do this manually. Manually edit the csproj file so MSBuild looks in the right place. Again not ideal: I would rather not have to get everyone on 64bit to manually edit csproj files on every new project. e.g. <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)" Condition="Exists('$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)')" /> Ideally I want a way to tell MSBuild to import the target file form the right place from the command line but I can't work out how to do that.     I need parse through a file and do some processing into it. The file is a text file and the data is a variable length data of the form "PP1004181350D001002003..........". So there will be timestamps if there is PP so 1004181350 is 2010-04-08 13:50. The ones where there are D are the data points that are three separate data each three digits long, so D001002003 has three coordonates of 001, 002 and 003. Now I need to parse this data from a file for which I need to store each timestamp into a array and the corresponding datas into arrays that has as many rows as the number of data and three rows for each co-ordinate. The end array might be like TimeStamp[1] = "135000", low[1] = "001", medium[1] = "002", high[1] = "003" TimeStamp[2] = "135015", low[2] = "010", medium[2] = "012", high[2] = "013" TimeStamp[3] = "135030", low[3] = "051", medium[3] = "052", high[3] = "043" .... The question is how do I go about doing this in C? How do I go through this string looking for these patterns? Note: Here the seconds value in timestamp is added on our own as it is known at each data comes after 15 seconds.

I have no idea what or why that new exception is throwing? 2) Now that a different exception is throwing on the server side instead of the file not found, it would seem I can't use this set up for the application, because back on client side, any exception is assumed to be filenotfound. Any help, especially info on why this ThreadAbortException is throwing!?!? greatly appreciated. Cheers

  • htaccess mod_rewrite check file/directory existence, else rewrite?

    I have a very heavy htaccess mod_rewrite file that runs my application. As we sometimes take over legacy websites, I sometimes need to support old urls to old files, where my application processes everything post htaccess. My ultimate goal is to have a 'Demilitarized Zone' for old file structures, and use mod rewrite to check for existence there before pushing to the application. This is pretty easy to do with files, by using: RewriteCond %{IS_SUBREQ} true RewriteRule .* - [L] RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} 200 RewriteRule .* - [L] RewriteCond Public/DMZ/$1 -F [OR] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ Public/DMZ/$1 [QSA,L] This allows pseudo support for relative urls by not hardcoding my base path (I cant assume I will ever be deployed in document root) anywhere and using subrequests to check for file existence. Works fine if you know the file name, ie http://domain.com/path/to/app/legacyfolder/index.html However, my legacy urls are typically http://domain.com/path/to/app/legacyfolder/ Mod_Rewrite will allow me to check for this by using -d, but it needs the complete path to the directory, ie RewriteCond Public/DMZ/$1 -F [OR] RewriteCond /var/www/path/to/app/Public/DMZ/$1 -d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ Public/DMZ/$1 [QSA,L] I want to avoid the hardcoded base path. I can see one possible solutions here, somehow determining my path and attaching it to a variable [E=name:var] and using it in the condition. Another option is using -U, but the tricky part is stopping it from hijacking every other request when they should flow through, since -U is really easy to satisfy. Any implementation that allows me to existence check a directory is more than welcome. I am not interested in using RewriteBase, as that requires my htaccess to have a hardcoded base path.

  • MacOSX: remove write-protect flag from file in Terminal

    Hi, I have a file on a FAT32 volume which is shown as write-protected in Finder (so I cannot move it). Removing that write-protected flag in the information dialog works just fine. However, I have many more such files and I thus want to do it via Terminal. I already tried via 'chmod +w' but that didn't worked. 'ls -la' showed me that they are already just fine ("-rwxrwxrwx 1 az az " where az is my user account). Then I thought this might be stored in some xattr properties but 'xattr -l' didn't gave me any entry. Then I thought this might be some ACL setting (whereby I thought they would be stored as xattr but let's try it anyway) - and some Google search returned me something with 'chmod -a' or 'chmod -i' or so. All these tries only give me chmod: No ACL currently associated with file" or chmod: Failed to set ACL on file...: Operation not permitted". But I definitly have no write access to the file because I cannot move it or do any other change to it (in Terminal). Removing the write-access flag in Finder solves that.

    Hello, I am having a bit of a problem, I am trying to get a PDF as a resource in my application. Original Error: PDF startxref not found" When I was just opening the file via a path to the static file in my directory it worked fine. I have tried using different encodings UTF-8, UTF-32, UTF-7, ASCII, etc etc.... As a side note I had the same problem with getting a Powerpoint file as a resource, I was finally able to fix that problem by converting the Powerpoint to xml and using that. I have considered doing the same for the PDF but I am referencing elements by field name which does not seem to work with XML PDFs. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance!

    I am attempting to upload a file using Zend Framework 1.8 and I get some errors. Here is the code snippet: The form element: $element = new Zend_Form_Element_File('doc'); $element->setLabel('Upload an image:') ->setDestination('/path/to/my/upload/folder'); $element->addValidator('Count', false, 1); $element->addValidator('Size', false, 102400); $element->addValidator('Extension', false, 'jpg,png,gif,doc,docx,xls,xlsx,txt'); $this->addElement($element); The code for handling the upload: $adapter = new Zend_File_Transfer_Adapter_Http(); if (!$adapter->receive()) { $messages = $adapter->getMessages(); echo implode("\n", $messages); } This works fine and the file is uploaded but I get the error "The file 'doc' was illegal uploaded, possible attack". I managed to get past this problem by not creating a new Zend_File_Transfer_Adapter_Http() but instead using: $adapter = $form->doc->getTransferAdapter(); With this modification, the first error disappears but now I have an error saying I have provided 2 files instead of one (probably its reading the temp) and when I adjust the validator to accept two files I then get the arror saying "The file 'doc' was not found" and the upload now fails completely. Please help

    Short question: How do I automatically detect whether a CSV file has headers in the first row? Details: I've written a small CSV parsing engine that places the data into an object that I can access as (approximately) an in-memory database. The original code was written to parse third-party CSV with a predictable format, but I'd like to be able to use this code more generally. I'm trying to figure out a reliable way to automatically detect the presence of CSV headers, so the script can decide whether to use the first row of the CSV file as keys / column names or start parsing data immediately. Since all I need is a boolean test, I could easily specify an argument after inspecting the CSV file myself, but I'd rather not have to (go go automation). I imagine I'd have to parse the first 3 to ? rows of the CSV file and look for a pattern of some sort to compare against the headers. I'm having nightmares of three particularly bad cases in which: The headers include numeric data for some reason The first few rows (or large portions of the CSV) are null There headers and data look too similar to tell them apart If I can get a "best guess" and have the parser fail with an error or spit out a warning if it can't decide, that's OK. If this is something that's going to be tremendously expensive in terms of time or computation (and take more time than it's supposed to save me) I'll happily scrap the idea and go back to working on "important things". I'm working with PHP, but this strikes me as more of an algorithmic / computational question than something that's implementation-specific. If there's a simple algorithm I can use, great. If you can point me to some relevant theory / discussion, that'd be great, too. If there's a giant library that does natural language processing or 300 different kinds of parsing, I'm not interested.
