• LAMP: How do I set up http://myservername.com/~user access?

  Been trying to Google this, but I can't figure out good search terms to find any info about what I need, since I don't really know what it's called. I'm pretty much being thrown to the wolves to figure out how to set up a LAMP server. We had someone who knew how to do it, he set one up and then quit. It was set up so that when I went to "http://{myservername}.com/~travis" it showed the contents of my /home/travis/public_html folder. This worked fine, then we lost power and the server restarted (I know, battery backup, but this is a dev server in a dev building so it's OK). Now, the browser can't find that URL. I also need to know how to set this up on a new server, so instead of wasting time diagnosing this problem (probably just something dumb I did messing with settings or something), I really need to know how to set this up from scratch. That, in turn, causes an auto-reply to be sent from User A and insanity ensues. How does Exchange 2010 prevent this scenario? Also, can Exchange 2010 prevent a user's mailbox sending more than one auto-reply to the same user in one day? Bonus: Assuming Exchange prevents this, how do I configure the settings?

• Disconnected from WiFi, Windows claims otherwise [closed]

  I'm connected via wifi to my ISP's router/modem. While Windows says that I'm always connected, I keep getting messages from Netgear Genie that I've lost contact to the Internet, and I cannot access webpages until it comes back. There are two other computers in the house, one connected to the router via ethernet, the other via wifi, both seem to have no such problems. I've wondered if Netgear genie itself was the problem, but I am regularly disconnected even if I uninstall it. And I'd rather have it since it accurently tells me if I'm connected or not. Why does windows says I'm online if I can't access any online game, or website ? I've removed the connection, recreated it, I've even copied the settings to a usb key from the computer that has wifi access. Is there a tool that can tell me which program, if any, is disconecting me ?

However, the ActiveX content is not displayed in Vista or Window 7. I've tried relaxing the security settings to no avail. Any suggestions or guidance would be much appreciated.

• PC boots on then off & 30 sec. later on again, it wiil shut off on itself mostly in idle or just unexpecticly

  This problem started w/ my sons desktop, it would just shut off after a bit of work or stay on for a long time & to get it to unfreeze is to cold boot it, i put a new HDD in & I still have the same issue, RAM is good power supply fan is moving quite as well as all the rest of the fans it has stayed fairly dust free, i'm at a loss ,I have defaulted all the factory settings changed battery & ungraded to a new OS. I still have the same problem. the power light stays on after it has shut down & when upon starting it goes straight to safe mode option page, I start in last good config. reboots again takes 30 sec. to boot & will work again for a while, the only other thing I haven't tried was a graphic card replace, i'm onboard video now & have been.

  I have the following environment: In company X I develop a application on a pc A in network A with ip address 192.168.100.50 which has to do an https request to an http server located in the intranet of company Y In company X is another pc B in network B with ip address 192.168.200.100 pc B (of company X) can access the intranet from company Y via ssh tunnel (putty) pc A (of company X) can ping pc B (of company X) note: pc A can also do a remote desktop connection to pc B) pc B can ping the http sever pc A can not ping the http server How can the https request from pc A of company X get to the http server of company Y? On which pc must be putty configured? And which settings for host, port forwarding etc. has to be done in putty? So finally the https request should go from PC A - PC B - Http Server in company Y.

• How do ISPs/Colocation Facilities limit bandwidth for Ethernet Drops?

  I have switch providers and have run into some problems with bandwidth limitations. I have more bandwidth then before, but there are performance issues. The router is connected to a 100mBit port, but they limit it to arbitrary settings (in software I imagine). It seems when I go above the limit, the provider starts to drop packets beyond the limit (This is what they said they do as well). Is it possible the previous provider did something like queuing packets above the this limit before dropping them? Is anyone aware of not only what can be done, but what is typical? Also, is there anything I can do on my Cisco router to help this situation? It would seem I am pretty helpless if the packets are dropped before they reach my interface (The traffic that is high is inbound to my network).

• IIS7 IE9 PHP Errors Hidden - Error 500 - How to show detailed PHP errors?

  I scrutinized every single article that there is on the web for this one but NO JOY! I am getting the infamous error 500 after that I have installed internet explorer 9. Here is a detailed step of what I had done.... STEP 1 - Installed PHP using Web Platform installer , IIS 7 on Windows 7 x64 STEP 2 - Configured PHP.ini to display_errors so I turned that on STEP 3 - With IE8 EVERYTHING was showing up fine .... STEP 4 - When I installed IE9 .... the error 500 message came back STEP 5 - Looked into php.ini and my original settings are all still there STEP 6 - reset iis7 with iisrestart from command prompt.... • What is the easiest way to get perfmon counter names into a text file?

  I'd like to create a settings file for my logman command. I expect to have lots of perfmon counters. Is there any easy way to get all the perfmon counters' exact text anywhere? The only thing I thought of was to create a Perfmon Counter Log through the GUI and then export the list of selected counters--but I don't see an export option! I guess I could manually copy what I see on the screen, but that seems inefficient. I'm going to be dealing with tens of counters. Maybe there is a list somewhere? That'd be easier to copy and paste from.

• How do I get detailed information about what happens during logon

  Due to my IT department leaving I am now responsible for all our IT systems. I now have several problems to get my head around and fix. I run Active Directory on windows server 2003 and use group policy to apply settings etc. Recently we have had some windows 7 clients added to our network, these are having awful problems with our logon scripts and drive mappings. For the most part my XP clients are working without a problem. What I want to know is what is going on during logon, as running the logon scripts after I have logged on often works. Does anyone know of a way to get detailed log information of what is happening before and during logon. Thanks for your help and any suggestions you have for tracking down the source of these problems.

• users unable to add registry keys to HKCU

  I may not have this 100% correct so need some clarification. Are normal users on a 2003 terminal server allowed to add registry keys the their own HKCU section in the registry, or are they only allowed to edit existing ones? The reason I ask is that we have 3 keys that we need to add for each user on login. I thought it would be as simple as having a straightforward batchscript run that silently adds the keys for the user. Here is what I used: regedit.exe "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\example.reg" When the user runs this batch scipt, they see nothing as you would expect, but the keys are not added. If I simply run the .reg file as the user, it asks if I want to add the key, but then has an error saying there was an error accessing the registry. Do I need something a bit more complex to accomplish this task. • Prevent Windows 7 from unpluging External HDD

  I have installed Windows 7 as my media server. I pluged in 500GB external HDD via USB. I have changed power plan to Best Performance and changed advenced power settings to never turn off HDD etc. I even yesterday wrote powershell script (create and delete folder on this disk) and I have added it to harmonogram to run every 5 minutes starting from system boot. And nothing! Disk after some time (I realy can't say when) is turning off and Windows show "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. Then only system reboot or disk reboot helps. Any ideas how to prevent Windows 7 from stopping my external HDD? Cheers!

• Setting up dovecot on OpenBSD

  I'm a *nix n00b that just installed dovecot (the selection with no ldap, mysql or pgsql) on OpenBSD 4.0 and I want to set it up for imap use, but I'm having a hard time finding documentation that I can understand. It currently running on port 143 (checked with telnet) but from there I need to do the following: I need some accounts, the once already on the system are fine if I can get those running (seemed to be some dovecot option somehow?), or just adding a few manually is ok too. Was there some setting for this in the default /etc/dovecot.conf? passdb bsdauth {} is uncommented by default... I need to create imap folders, or subfolders. How can I do that? Hopefully not, but anything else I need to do? I want to run without certification validation and no SSL/TLS, would this work by default (client-side settings)?

• Synergy: avoid single machine loop when client is not connected

  In order to loop between my screens I have the following section in my synergy.sgc file: section: links Pedro-Acer: right = pedro-lubuntu left = pedro-lubuntu pedro-lubuntu: left = Pedro-Acer right = Pedro-Acer end With those settings When the client disconnects the server screen wraps around itself as seen in the image below. I don't want this behavior. The only reason I set the config file to loop between my screens is because I want to have a single key to switch between them: keystroke(alt+`) = switchInDirection(right) If there is way to have a single key for switching in both directions without having looping screens then that would also solve my problem.

  I have a Macbook Pro at work and installed the current VirtualBox (3.2.4) today. However, after using the VHD image for IE 7 on XP SP3 on this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=21eabb90-958f-4b64-b5f1-73d0a413c8ef&displaylang=en The Virtual Operating System (XP) just thought there is no network card provided by the PC (the virtual PC simulated by VirtualBox), even if I set up 4 network cards in Settings, as NAT, host only, etc. So the XP cannot browse any webpage at all... Does any integration package need to be added for VirtualBox to make it work and how? (is VirtualBox providing a "too advanced" network card so XP SP3 doesn't have the driver for it? thanks.

• Is there anything that can be done to make X forwarding over LAN less painful?

  I have two *nix machines that I like to remotely do graphical things sometimes with. One of those machines is my Arch Linux media server, and another is my OpenBSD router/general server. My current task was installing a Windows XP over virtual box on my media server. I preferred to do the installation from my main workstation so that I could continue to watch TV from my media server on it's "actual" display. I soon noticed that X forwarding is quite painful though, even over low-latency LAN connections. Are there any settings I can tweak to make it a bit less painfully slow, jittery, and laggy? My LAN is rather small, 100Mbit, and ping times to the other box average at about 0.15ms. Also, I know Virtualbox has a VNC mode it can use instead of doing X forwarding, but this particular task was just an example

• Windows bios fails to boot up, keeps resetting

  When I turn the computer on this error always happens wher jus after it starts up this screen pops up wher it says F1 to enter BIOS setup or F2 to start Windows Normally and if I press F2 it goes into Windows but freezez then I hav 2 turn the pc off, Problem is the BIOS + Date and Time keeps resetting itself somehow and it's not the battery because I put a new one in so when I manage 2 load default settings and get it working after some struggle and I shut down the pc the next day I switch the pc on and does the whole process again... What could this problem be and how can I fix it??? Thank you

  How do you get workstations to (seamlessly) authenticate with a secondary Active Directory server when the primary one is down? Background: I added a secondary Active Directory server to a company's network, hoping that it would do authentication in the event that the primary Active Directory server was down. Although, the Secondary Active Directory server seems to be replicating correctly, authentication doesn't occur while rebooting the primary Active Directory server. Do I have a misunderstanding regarding the role of a secondary Active Directory server, or are there additional settings I must set to get the workstations to authenticate with it when the primary is down?

• Connecting to FileZilla FTP Server on XAMPP localhost with Dreamweaver

  I am running XAMPP 1.7.4. I've installed the FileZilla FTP server and I'm running it as a service. I created a user and when I connect as that user with the FileZilla client, I have no trouble connecting. However, in Dreamweaver CS5 when I create a site using the Manage Sites dialog and go to configure its FTP settings, I get a message that reads An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. and goes on to list some possible causes and solutions. I have tried setting the connection as passive to no avail. I understand that it is not necessary to use FTP when I am editing the site locally, but it is for a Dreamweaver class I am teaching and I want my students to learn to use Dreamweaver's FTP tools. How can I make my localhost FTP connection work in Dreamweaver?

• show php error message on IIS 7

  I am using IIS as a webserver on my development machine for PHP webdevelopment. Or at least, I am trying to. When there is a syntax error in a PHP script and I open that file in my webbrowser, I just get an 503 "internal server error" and the default IIS error page for this error. Some browsers dont open that file at all, possibly because of the 503 HTTP Response Header. I would like IIS to act in that case just like the apache webserver: display the PHP file with the error anyway, so that the error message gets printed out. How can this be done? EDIT: PHP settings: display_errors is on and error_reporting is set to E_ALL

• samba - join domain - automatically set workgroup

  Hell alltogether Since I have to do this often, I want to automate the joining to a windows domain as much as possible. While joining a domain one has to specify realm = in the /etc/smb.conf, along with some other settings like security=ads. Among these settingst there is workgroup = My question is: Is it possible to fill this field automatically by samba, while joining a domain? Normally I would just have said never, but as I tried leaving this field blank while joining a domain, i got: Failed to join domain: Invalid configuration ("workgroup" set to '', should be 'BLABLA') and configuration modification was not requested This has made me wondering whether an automatic modification is possible and if so how? • Monitor weirdness/flickering with new Viao PCG-3112L

  I have a Sony VAIO PCG-3112L running Windows 7. It worked fine on one monitor, but now I'm using it with a 2 year old LG Flatron W2252TQ-TF. The colors are sorta off (although that might just be the monitor), but more annoyingly there are many horizontal flickering lines. It's more noticeable on non-white backgrounds. I tried rebooting the monitor, and reseting it to factory settings, but that didn't solve the issue. What could be the cause of this? The monitor works fine with an Asus netbook. I have checked that both ends of the VGA cable are plugged in between the Vaio and the monitor.

There are no programs listed in the add/remove programs dialog matching the corporate VPN name or similar.
