  I am having repeated and frequent crashes ending session whenever I take certain actions such as loading gmail under Chrome. Oddly, the same is not happening when I go to gmail under Chrome. After rooting around in /var/logs it appears to me that he trigger is something to do with libc.so.6 (see below).   Oracle OpenWorld Shanghai 2013 was held July 22nd – 25th at the International Expo Center in Shanghai, China. The conference drew over 19,000 attendees from 44 countries. In addition, 580 CxOs attended the Executive Edge program, and 430+ partners attended the Oracle Partner Network Exchange. The conference included a number of sessions on Big Data, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management delivered by Oracle, our partners and customers.  I had the pleasure to attend the conference and delivered three sessions focused on Oracle’s Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) applications. Each of my sessions was well-attended, and in a few cases was standing room only, so there is clearly a lot of interest in the China market in EPM. The EPM and BI demo pods in the DemoGrounds at the conference also received a lot of traffic. In addition to the conference sessions I delivered, I had several meetings with customers and partners in Shanghai.These sessions and meetings I attended made clear the interest that customers in China have in improving their planning, management reporting, financial reporting, and profitability management processes. In fact, with the China Ministry of Finance now standardizing on XBRL for annual reporting across multiple agencies in China, there is a great opportunity here for our disclosure management application. • Is it possible to to have all pre-unity effects in latest ubuntu?

  I've been an Ubuntu dilettante for a long, long time. It is not my primary OS but I've always had it on all my laptops and desktop machines for over 8 years now. What I really, really like(d) about ubuntu (or linux, for that matter) was the effects - desktop cube, wobbly windows and other such "cool" effects. Needless to say, I was heartbroken with Unity. I gave it the benefit of doubt and tried to like it, tried to love it. Stuck with it for over a year. But I recently came to the conclusion that unity is really not for me. I want my old ubuntu back, with all it's eye candy effects. I tried messing around with ccsm but it only seemed to make the matters worse. Now, I could just install the old version of ubuntu - but getting my bamboo pen and Nvidia to work with it is a son of a.. anyway, the point is, old version of ubuntu is outdated to work with my newer machines. I'd rather have a new version of ubuntu but without unity- I don't know what the eye candy stuff is called - and so my question is this - Is it possible to rid ubuntu of unity and get all the eye candy stuff and if it is not possible, can you please advice me what other linux supports all the effects, please? I've searched high and low for unity alternatives but didn't find any satisfactory solutions; so I think my question is mainly about what other linux flavour is better suited for the task - sorry if it is out of topic.

• nvidia-settings error: nvidia driver not in use

  I have an Asus with GEFORCE GT520M CUDA (Optimus) and I am running Kubuntu 12.04, 64bit. I am trying to connect an external monitor through DVI and the monitor is not detected. Nvidia settings dont show properly and each time I fire them up there is a warning message: "You do not appear to be using the NVidia X driver. Please, edit...." (you probably know it and heard of this before). I have googled a lot and I have tried some things out but no luck so far. Is there a solution which has worked for someone out there? If so, please be very specific about what I need to do since I am really not good at using the terminal and generally new to ubuntu. I can use the terminal only to copy-paste things. :) Thanks in advance to everyone! ps. Seems like some people dealt with this by fixing the Nvidia settings problem but the instructions have never been clear enough for me to be able to understand.

In addition to the stay service there are some other services. Each service has its own calculation logic. • Groovy Refactoring in NetBeans

  Hi guys, during the NetBeans 7.3 feature development, I spend quite a lot of time trying to get some basic Groovy refactoring to the game. I've implemented find usages and rename refactoring for some basic constructs (class types, fields, properties, variables and methods). It's certainly not perfect and it will definitely need a lot fixes and improvements to get it hundred percent reliable, but I need to start somehow :) I would like to ask all of you to test it as much as possible and file a new tickets to the cases where it doesn't work as expected (e.g. some occurrences which should be in usages isn't there etc.) ..it's really important for me because I don't have real Groovy project and thus I can test only some simple cases. I can promise, that with your help we can make it really useful for the next release. Also please be aware that the current version is focusing only on the .groovy files. That means it won't find any usages from the .java files (and the same applies for finding usages from java files - it won't find any groovy usages). I know it's not ideal, but as I said.. we have to start somehow and it wasn't possible to make it all-in-one, so only other option was to wait for the NetBeans 7.4. I'll focus on better Java-Groovy integration in the next release (not only in refactoring, but also in navigation, code completion etc.) BTW: I've created a new component with surprising name "Refactoring" in our bugzilla[1], so please put the reported issues into this category. • How to get Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition on Windows 7

  Visual studio 2010 is an amzing release from Microsoft. I have tried the beta 1,2 of Visual Studio 2010 and finally the full version is released. I am also interested in the latest edition of Windows which nothing but our Windows 7. Next to Vista I like this version very much. Out of curiosity I have installed the prebuild version of Windows 7. I tried installing the express edition here and it failed making me disappointed. I tried two or three times and finally I decided to download the trial version of Windows 7. After that I can install the Visual Studio 2010 express edition easily. I have given the link below from where I have downloaded the file. http://www.microsoft.com/express/downloads/ Here the link give is through Web PI Installer. Other option is you can download the ISO image file and burn them to a disc or use a virtual disc This Visual Web developer will provide the Sql Server engine alone. To get a Sql Server Management Studio get from the following link http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/InstallOptions.aspx That's it all the things necessary for the web application programming is ready. Ah I forget to tell about the Silverlight. • Tell me why I should bother using Linux if it's all about problems getting the OS to install or work properly? [closed]

  Why should I spend day's trying to get Ubuntu to either install and/or work properly? I'm using an Acer Timeline X laptop and if I install 10.04 the wireless doesn't work, and if I try installing 11.04 it either won't install, or if it installs it's full of bugs causing my computer to freeze all the time. So please, I'm all open ears. Someone give me one or two good reasons to continue wasting time (in hope it eventually works) before I decide to focus my time on other things like productivity (using Windows like I've been doing successfully the last 10 years). This is the second time I give Ubuntu a try, the first time was in 2010 using Ubuntu Studio and Ubuntu Desktop, and it ended with me shifting back to Windows since I had spent more time getting everything to work than actually working while trying Ubuntu. I really don't understand why it needs to be like this. Why go on trying when all I see is forums full of discussions about problems which people are having difficulties fixing. Or maybe there is just one special type of computer which works well with Linux? Would very much like to know which computer that is. SO please, if it's not to much trouble I really want to here from someone who has something good to say about going through all this trouble just to get a working environment up and running since I already have a working environment up and running called Windows. • How can I make myself better at programming working at a shi* job ?

  I recently graduated with an Engineering degree in Computer Science, but my employer (a mid-sized software company) is not using my logical and programming skills. I want to move to a better opportunity but how do I do that since my experience here is not going to count as much? How do I get a better programming job? The worst part is that I am still reading from books (and not writing code myself) even after I have started working. They are paying me a standard entry level Indian IT job rate but I really dont care. It's not worth it. Please advise as to how I can do something worthwhile. (I have studied C++; Core Java; Ruby On Rails ..made a couple of academic projects but no relevant practical real world experience). Just to make things easier .. let me list a few basic queries How I get better at programming without a good project at my company? Please suggest projects where I can learn to write practical code (platform doesn't matter) Best place to take part in open source development? Is it possible that I earn slightly more while I learn? (apart from my sh** job I mean) What kind of practical projects are best suited for me? (ie for an entry level programmer)

  I liked the core of this question, and wanted to re-ask it in a way that made it less about 'fun' and more about 'What do these past mistakes tell us about how we can write and test software better?' As an SDET, I'm always looking for anecdotes about new and interesting ways that programs can fail. I've learned a lot from these tales in the past, and would like to get that from the intelligent people in this community as well. I'd be interested in hearing what the issue was, how it was caught, if you think there was anything that could have reasonably done to catch it earlier or to avoid the same issue on later projects, and any other interesting lessons you took away from this bug. Please only write about bugs you personally were involved with, ideally on a project you worked on (e.g., no "10 years before I was born, this happened and it was FUNNY!" answers). Please vote up answers that are thought-provoking or could change how you develop or test in some way, so this isn't just 'social fun'. Try to avoid voting up something just because it was funny.

Well, I love books and still read a lot either on books, magazine, iPad, MacbookPro, or whatever the medium shows me letters! But I have to admit, sometimes it’s much easier to understand especially something like How-To by just watching video clips than reading it. • Ubuntu 12.04 Faster boot, Hibernate & other questions

  I've recently started exploring Ubuntu (my 1st distro). I fresh installed precise without a swap (4GB ram). The only issues are, slow boot (regardless of the swap) and instability after a few days of installation. The runtime performance is immaculate otherwise. Even though not needed, I still set swappiness = 10. I've tried the quiet splash profile to GRUB; already have preload installed. But it still is pretty slow. I am not too confident on recompiling the kernel yet. But you could please advice me on that too. I've also added the following to fstab: #Move /tmp to RAM: tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noexec,nosuid 0 0 (Also if you could please tell me the exact implication/scope of this tweak on physical ram & the swap.) But nothing has happened really. So what alternatives are there to make it boot faster? Also, right after fresh install, though no swap partition, the system still showed /dev/zram0 of arond 2GB which was never used (probably because of the above fstab edit). Finally, I experimented with Hibernate a little, but many claim that it doesn't work on 12.04. (Not to mention, I made a swap file of 4GB for it). What I did was: sudo gedit /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/hibernate.pkla Then I added the following lines, saved the file, and closed the text editor: [Re-enable Hibernate] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate ResultActive=yes I also edited the upower policy for hibernate: gksudo gedit /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.upower.policy I added these lines: < allow_inactive >no< /allow_inactive > < allow_active >yes< /allow_active > But it did not work. So is there an alternate method perhaps that can make it work on 12.04?

The reason is very simple: we feel that Birmingham needs a fresh start. We are both very passionate about .NET and are hoping to share our experiences with the community. • notification icons in Gnome Shell cause lag

  Before marking this as a duplicate please read my question throughly. OK I am having a bit of a problem with Gnome Shell (3.3.90); Any time there are any icons in the bottom notification bar it causes massive lag when opening/closing and interacting with the Activities panel. If I close all applications that have a notification icon the lag goes away 100%. In My case it's drop box, but any program that requires a icon in the notification area will cause this issue to happen. I am using an AMD A6-3420M running Catalyst 11.11, however I can confirm that this is not a driver issue. I had the same issue on a system running a GeForce 8600GT,and a HD6850, and there is another question on here titled "Gnome Shell lags after a while" where the user is having the same exact issue and He is also using a nVidia card, a 9800GT to be specific. Please, this question has been asked several time and every time people say its a fglrx issue and close the question, or they mark the question as a duplicate and link to a question that says its an fglrx issue. This is not a driver issue, I understand that the AMD drivers caught heat for quite some time for Gnome Shell compatibility issues but those issues have been resolved. Aside from this issue Gnome Shell runs beautiful on my HD650, my A6-3420M, and my 8600GT. Having said that, does anyone know how to correct this issue? Closing Drop Box is not an option for me either.
