• Mapping <C-Tab> in my vimrc fails in Ubuntu

  I want to map ctrl-tab to :tabn, and ctrl-shift-tab to :tabp. I had it working for gVim in Windows XP, but moved it to my .vimrc in Ubuntu 9.10 and it doesn't work (vim 7.2). Here's the relevant section of my .vimrc: nmap <C-Tab> :tabn<CR> nmap <C-S-Tab> :tabp<CR> nmap <C-t> :tabnew<CR> <C-t> works fine, so mapping the ctrl key doesn't seem to be a problem. I really have no idea where to start! What could be going wrong here, considering it worked fine under Windows?

• RichFaces rich:insert takes a long time to output large files

  Hello I'm using a RichFaces <rich:insert like this: <rich:panel header="my head"> <a4j:outputPanel ajaxRendered="true"> <rich:insert src="#{MyBacking.myPath}" highlight="groovy" /> </a4j:outputPanel> </rich:panel> If I have a 60k file to output, it takes 23 seconds. I've got a requirement to output the contents of some larger files than that and obviously the larger the file, the larger the wait for content. The recommendation in the answer to another related question is to introduce paging. I will, but the question is, why does it take so long to output 60k of text using JSF/RichFaces? That is, reading off a local disk with Windows XP SP2 PC - I can see from the log the data has already been written to disk from the network. Other scripting languages appear to be faster than this - is it something to do with the JSF lifecycle having to handle the text maybe? Thanks

  Hi, c# .Net 3.5 visual studio 2008, windows xp I have a main form in a project, given a specific set of circumstances another form is instantiated and displayed to the user: Form frmT = new frmTargetFolder(expName, this); frmT.Show(); As you can see, I am passing a reference to the new form from the current one. My question is, what do I have to do to a method so that it is exposed to the new form, the same for a variable? I have tried defining the functions as public, but I can't seem to access them, also I have written a Get and Set method for a variable, again how do I expose these functions and methods to other forms? public void hit() { MessageBox.Show("hit it"); } bool setOverRide { get { return OverRide; } set { OverRide = value; } } The main form is called frmDataXfer and the form, form which I am trying to call the functions and methods of frmDataXfer is called frmTargetFolder, an instance of which is created in the frmDataXfer and referenced as frmT. • UI Automation / Retrieve File Extension / C#

  Dear all, I am tasked with a project that requires me to retreieve a specific file from a folder where I can only get an X and Y on the screen. While in XP I managed to use the fact that windows explorer is in essence a list view, and used the WM_HITTEST message to obtain information about the file, in Windows 7, this is not the case. To solve this problem, I am using UI Automation, which is a great tool for such things, only problem is that in the case, the windows handle I am looking at belongs to the desktop, and the desktop might have several files with the same name but with different extensions (and windows is configured to "hide extensions of known file types") UI automation does not return the extension back to me. I have tried many things, but I cannot find any robust solution which would give me 100% success. Has anyone tried this? successfully? Would appreciate any pointers. Many thanks,

• How to add flags to RC.EXE through QMake .pro makefiles

  I've the following definition in my .pro file: RC_FILE = app.rc This RC file contains a global include at the top: #include "version_info.h" The version_info.h header is on a common header files directory. Since RC.EXE takes INCLUDE environment variable in consideration, according to MS documentation, my build process batch sets up that accordingly: SET INCLUDE=%PROJECTDIR%\version;%INCLUDE% ... QMAKE project.pro -spec win32-msvc2008 -r CONFIG += release This works perfect as RC seems to read that INCLUDE var so the "version_info.h" file is including on every RC file properly. The problem is when I generate a VS solution (or Import it through the VS Addin). The RC invocation does not contain any /I flag (as I expect) but does not read any INCLUDE variable, even when I've setup through system 'environment variables' dialog in XP. So I'm stuck with this problem, with two alternatives I could not get to work: Make VS RC.exe invocation honour the INCLUDE variable (didn't work either as user or system variable). Force QMAKE to pass /I flag to RC invocation, and get that /I flag imported into the project settings (Resource Compiler properties). Thanks in advance.

  I'm trying to deploy some web services in a WAR application on JBoss 5.1.0. I have created the source files from an existing wsdl using JAX-WS tool wsgen. This created the Service files and @XmlType annotated clases that would act as request and response wrappers. This classes worked well on JBoss 4.2.3, but when moving to JBoss 5.1.0, I get this exception. java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: setProperty must be overridden by all subclasses of SOAPMessage My configuration: Windows XP SP3 (but getting the same on Vista, as well as on Linux) Sun JDK 1.6.0_17 JBoss 5.1.0 GA for jdk6 Thanks in advance!

Build it, and here is the question: how to set application icon to my compiled exe file? I need to see specified ICO in explorer! Old method with MyProject.pro not interested!!! Create a .ico file with both 16x16 and 32x32-pixel versions of the icon (you can do this in Visual Studio).   Hi, I have Phonon::VideoWidget, Phonon::MediaObject and Phonon::MediaSource, all initialized as below. videoWidget=new Phonon::VideoWidget(this); mediaVideoObject=new Phonon::MediaObject(this); Phonon::createPath(mediaVideoObject, videoWidget); Phonon::MediaSource mediaSource= Phonon::MediaSource("D:\\file.avi"); mediaVideoObject->setCurrentSource(mediaSource); and all connections laid for Play, Pause, Next, Previous. It is working for few videos while for some other it is throwing IDispatch error #24 (0x80040218) and error type as Fatal. I am using Qt4.4 in windows XP and has backend support as well. I have to play those videos which are throwing the above mentioned error. What might be the reason and how i can overcome the error?

• bundle .NET dlls to run application in .NET-less machine?

  AFAIK, ngen turns MSIL into native code (also reffered to as pre-JIT), however I never payed too much attention at it's startup performance impact. Ngen'd applications still require the .NET base class libraries (the runtime). Since the base class libraries have everything our .NET assemblies need (correct?) would it be possible to ship the framework's DLLs with my ngen'd application so that it does not require the runtime to be installed? (e.g., the scenario for most Windows XP machines) Oh, and please don't bother mentioning Remotesoft's Salamander Linker or Xenocode's Postbuild. They are not for my (and many's) current budget (and they seem to simply bundle the framework in a virtualized enviroinment, which means big download sizes and slow startup times I believe) EDIT: I know now, ngen doesn't do what I thought it did. But is it possible to bundle the .NET files with an application, without using a VM?

• Memory mapped files causes low physical memory

  I have a 2GB RAM and running a memory intensive application and going to low available physical memory state and system is not responding to user actions, like opening any application or menu invocation etc. How do I trigger or tell the system to swap the memory to pagefile and free physical memory? I'm using Windows XP. If I run the same application on 4GB RAM machine it is not the case, system response is good. After getting choked of available physical memory system automatically swaps to pagefile and free physical memory, not that bad as 2GB system. To overcome this problem (on 2GB machine) attempted to use memory mapped files for large dataset which are allocated by application. In this case virtual memory of the application(process) is fine but system cache is high and same problem as above that physical memory is less. Even though memory mapped file is not mapped to process virtual memory system cache is high. why???!!! :( Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  I want to create a Windows XP batch script that sequentially performs something like the following: @echo off :: build everything cd \workspace\project1 mvn clean install cd ..\project2 mvn clean install :: run some java file cd \workspace\project3 java -jar somefile.jar When I create a Batch script like this (following these instructions), I still have the problem that the script stops doing something after the first mvn clean install and then displays the command line. How can i execute all of these commands in sequence in one batch file? I don't want to refer to other files, I want to do it in one file.

• How do I render 3d model into directshow virtual camera output

  I want to provide a virtual webcam via DirectShow that will use the video feed from an existing camera running some tracking software against it to find the users face and then overlay a 3d model oriented just that it appears to move the users face. I am using a third party api to do the face tracking and thats working great. I get position and rotation data from that api. My question is whats the best way to render the 3d model and get into the video feed and out to direct show? I am using c++ on windows xp.

• Is Private Bytes >> Working Set normal?

  OK, this may sound weird, but here goes. There are 2 computers, A (Pentium D) and B (Quad Core) with almost the same amount of RAM running Windows XP. If I run the same code on both computers, the allocated private bytes in A never goes down resulting in a crash later on. In B it looks like the private bytes is constantly deallocated and everything looks fine. In both computers, the working set is deallocated and allocated similarly. Could this be an issue with manifests or DLLs (system)? I'm clueless. Also, I compiled the executable on A and ran it on B and it worked. Note: I observed the utilized memory with Process Explorer. Question: During execution (where we have several allocations and deallocations) is it normal for the number of private bytes to be much bigger (1.5 GB vs 70 MB) than the working set?

• C# Progressbar is not updated accurately in Vista or Windows7

Searching some threads found that its for animation lag in Vista/Windows7. How to get rid of this thing? I don't want to loose the look and feel of Vista/Window7 using: SetWindowTheme(progressBar1.Handle, " ", " ");

• Deploying WPF application: .NET 3.5 issues

  Hi all, Users around my country are currently beta-testing our application. My app uses WPF & Linq, so I need .NET 3.5 installation. On most system, everything works find, including automatic installation on .NET 3.5 on machines that do not have that installed yet. However, on one machine (XP SP2) my application does not run. The user reported no issues during .NET 3.5 installation (except for a process that need to close before the installer could continue - he closed the process and continued). The application crashes on startup. To debug this issue, I did the following: Have him reboot his machine Let him manually re-install the .NET 3.5 framework (no errors reported) Have him run a test WPF app that only displays a button - also crashes Let him send the .NET 3.5 installation logs - these are huge, don't now where to look Does anyone have strategy on how to debug such issues? I expect that this will occur more when the application is released..

In IE6 and IE8 under XP, the whole image is indented, not text, so the image is not shown. What should be the right behavior? Is there a workaround?

  I'm trying to install pylucene on Windows XP. I installed JDK on C:\Programme\Java\jdk1.6.0_18 . I also installed Visual Studio C++ Express to have a C++ compiler. • Problem with DWR and Android-Browser

  Hello everyone, I am experiencing a problem with accessing an application from the Android-browser. The application uses DWR to persist connections to the clients that are connected with it. Everything works fine for me, except that if the application does not send any data to the client on the Android-phone for 2 minutes, the connection seems to be lost and no data arrive at the client. The same scenario works just fine on Firefox, Opera and Chrome. If the pause between two data transfers is less than 2 minutes, it works just fine. So, now my question: Is there some timeout setting for the android browser that I am missing? Or is this some built-in bug/feature/whatever that I cannot circumvent? I know that I could prevent this from happening with some sort of heartbeat, I would just like to why this is happening. • Open Source Embedded Database Options for .Net Applications

  I have a .Net 4.0 WPF application that requires an embedded database. MS Access doesn't work on 64 bit Windows I'm told. And I having issues with SSCE: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll': This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B1) sqlceme35.dll is installed into my application's program files directory, so I can't seem to figure out why Windows XP Pro doesn't see it. I was wondering about other embedded databases options I might use that work on both 32 and 64 bit windows. Any suggestions?

  Hi, My C#.NET application is running much slower when the exe is located on the network. And I'm talking about everything, even the graphical dispay is slower. For example: when a form is already loaded, if I unplug my network cable and minimize and maximize the window, it takes a very long time to redraw itself. I'm using framework .NET 3.5 SP1. Any idea on the cause? My hypothesis so far: I'm missing some options when building the app? my corporate antivirus checks more stuff because the exe is on the network the cache of Windows XP SP3 doesn't work the same way when the exe is on the network the server is a Novell server: maybe this does change something ? • Bad http connection (400) from Simple Native Iphone App to test .net Web Service

  Dear all, I have written a simple hello world .net web service which will accept 2 parameters and return the parameters as a string. The web service is hosted by IIS on a windows xp pc. I am able to access the web service using safari on the iphone simulator, successfully tested the operation using HTTP POST by clicking the "invoke" button. However, when I use the native app on the iphone simulator, I keep getting a bad http connection error 400 on the IIS log. I have tested my native app with http://viium.com/WebService/HelloWorld.asmx and it works. I have already added Does anyone know what is wrong? Is it some settings that have not configured correctly? • Java RS232 Comm on Vista-64 bit

  We have a Java application which needs to communicate with a peripheral device over Virtual Serial COM port. We use the RS232 Java COMM API (javax.comm.properties, comm.jar, win32com.dll) to achieve the same. Currently the code works fine on Windows XP 32-bit, Vista 32-bit and Windows 7. However we are having a problem trying to communicate on Vista 64-bit. I read from the Java forums that there is no 64-bit support for the Java COMM API I was wondering if anyone was facing a similar situation and were able to resolve the same in some way?

• Windows CE 5.0 emulator needed

  I need an emulator for Windows CE 5.0 to test an embedded device (not PDA or smartphone) application that I am developing. This is what I have already tried: Visual Studio 2008 Pro includes an emulator. Unfortunately, it does not include a Windows CE image (only Windows Mobile and Smartphone). Yes, there is a difference, see the screenshots here. Windows CE includes a "start button", windows that can be minimized, moved around etc. There is a Windows CE Device Emulator available from Microsoft. Apart from the fact that its license only permits non-commercial use, it does not run in Windows 7 (it requires .net Framework 1.1, which is incompatible with Windows 7) nor in Windows XP mode (error message: "Emulator for Windows CE will not run one virtual machine within another. Please run the virtual machine on the host operating system"). Is there any option that I have missed?

• fsutil hardlink doesn't work?

  I was looking for a way to create hard links under Windows and I found this page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc788097.aspx To try it out, I created a file (1.txt) on the root of my C: drive with 100 lines of the following content: C:\1.txt (2.598 bytes): test test test test test Then I open the command prompt and type: fsutil hardlink create C:\2.txt C:\1.txt Success, 2.txt was created but when I go to see it's size it has exactly 2.598 bytes and also noticed some strange behaviours (as far as my understanding of hard links goes): If I delete 2.txt (the hard linked file) 1.txt is not deleted, and vice-versa. If I open 2.txt after I delete 1.txt (the original file) the content is still the same. How does the fsutil hardlink create command differs from the copy command? And how can I create a true hard link under Windows? I'm using Windows XP SP 3, and my file system is NTFS.

• Accelerometer API for Laptops

  Most IBM (and some Dell) laptops have built-in accelerometers to stop any moving parts during a sudden fall, but I was unable to find a standardised Windows API to access this data. I assume that each manufacturer would provide a driver to interface with the sensor. Which popular laptop brands come standard with accelerometers accessible from an API and which libraries should I use to access the data? Does an API* exist to abstract away the differences between different manufacturers? I am aware of the Windows 7 Sensor API, but I would like support for XP and earlier.
