  What Java ORM library implementing JPA that match following criteria would you recommend and why ? free & open source alive (at least bug fixes and a mailing list) with good documentation simple (simpler than hibernate) I need to select a simple ORM tool that can be set up in minutes, without too much configuration and easy to understand, for setting simple CRUD DAOs. • Joining Two MKV files in Ubuntu?

  I have an opera that I'm ripping to my computer in MKV format with Handbrake. This opera is on two discs. Is there a way to join the resulting MKV's together? They will have the same bitrate, resolution, etc. If I do this, can I keep chapters from both MKV files organized? And, since I have subtitles in the file (not burnt in), will they still stay intact? I'm not too sure if this question is off-topic or not. If it is, feel more than free to delete it. :)

  I've made a banner for my website and I'm planning to ask my followers to share it on their website to help improve my rank. my website is hosted on GAE, the banners are less than 5kb/each and I must say that I don't want to pay for extra bandwidth I've read the Google App Engine Quotas but honestly I don't understand anything of it. Would you please tell me which table/data in this page should be of my concern? Also, do you think it's wise to host such banners, that are going to end up on 3rd party websites, on the GAE? or am I more secure if I use free online services like Google Picasa?

• Do programmers possess the means of production? [closed]

  I was reading (err listening) to The Servile State by Hilare Belloc this morning and pondering whether or not I possessed the means of production, as did the peasant of the middle ages; as did not his descendants after the oligarchs of England forced him into servility. The means of production was the arable land that the serf was seated on, which even though not legally his, was illegal to evict him from. So, as programmers, with the hither-to-unknown supply of free tools and resources, have we reclaimed as a class of workers, unlike any others, the means of production. Given the chance, a midrange PC and a stable internet connection, could we not each of us be wholly self sufficient and not just wage earners?

  I'm looking for (free) Ubuntu YouTube software that can perform two tasks (could be separate software): display on screen notification (like transmission does when a download has finished) when a new video has been uploaded to your personal subscription box download videos in max quality (preferably automatically once a new video has been uploaded from specific channels / series) What I've found so far: All Video Downloader: only downloads manually, can't select quality MiniTube: Doesn't associate with your personal account, doesn't notify when new video has been uploaded from your subscriptions. Annoying GUI. Quite buggy. If this software doesn't exist yet, I'll try to make it myself.

• Direct Code Support?

  A few times in the past I've hit a major wall and simply couldn't progress with a certain aspect of an app as Im a beginner and still learning the ropes (Objective-C specifically). I was curious if anyone knows of any services which support programmers in real time, paid or free and will over video, audio or text chat sit and work a problem out till its fixed and look through your code? I understand Stackoverflow does a super job at this! • Apache2 Unwantingly Allowing Proxy Requests

  I'm not sure if this is the right location, but this is fairly urgent. I have completely removed all traces of mod_proxy and the other mod_proxy mods, although the Apache server continues to allow proxy requests. I have restarted numerous times, and have shut down until I can find an answer. I've noticed lots of requests from IPs in and around China to external sites such as free movie downloads and such. I'd like to prevent this from happening. I'll be grateful for any help I get.

  Does anyone know if there is some kind of tool to put a number on technical debt of a code base, as a kind of code metric? If not, is anyone aware of an algorithm or set of heuristics for it? If neither of those things exists so far, I'd be interested in ideas for how to get started with such a thing. That is, how can I quantify the technical debt incurred by a method, a class, a namespace, an assembly, etc. I'm most interested in analyzing and assessing a C# code base, but please feel free to chime in for other languages as well, particularly if the concepts are language transcendent.

Is there a noticable performance difference? Is the javascript code packaged as-is? And if yes, does this help the game's modability? Is it possible to use libraries developed for one language while developing in the other one? Is it possible to mix the two languages in the same Unity project by coding some parts in C# and others in Javascript? • Why isn't Startup Disk Creator working in 12.04?

  I'm trying to create a bootable USB stick (7.5G) for Ubuntu 12.04 (x86_64) from another Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 PC. I downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120425). When I run Make Startup Disk, I selected the downloaded release. The drive shows up with a capacity of 7.5GB and a blank space under "Free Space". I have tried using the "Erase Disk" button, which seems to erase the disk. The problem is that the options below the "Disk to use" section are grayed out. The "Make Startup Disk" is colored dull orange, while the source disc image and device to use are bright orange. The "Make Startup Disk" button doesn't do anything when I click it. The only working buttons are "Other...", "Erase Disk", and "Close". Upon using Other button to select the ISO, it allows to select the ISO but it doesn't load and the "Source Disk Image" field remains empty.

• October 2012 Chicago IT Architects Group Meeting Recap

  It seemed very ironic that the day we have a presentation on the architecture of building applications for Windows 8 the Surface tablet is opened for pre-order.  Tom Benton started the evening enlightening the attendees on the user experience for those who had not seen it yet.  He even passed around his table from last year’s Build conference for everyone to play with.  This was followed with a tour of the capabilities and structures that make up a Windows Store App on Windows 8.  Taking it to its conclusion, he rounded out the discussion by covering the certification and deployment process. • How does timeseal work? [on hold]

  I know the the fics (free internet chess server: www.freechess.org/) does use a program called timeseal to measure the time that a user needed to take a move. This timeseal is some time measurement on the client. Measuring on the client is much better and fairer than measuring the time on the server since you don't lose time just by having a bad connection. But since fics has a lot of interfaces to play on - what prevents rogue interfaces to say that they always only used 0.1 seconds for any move? Does anyone know how this is handled? Just a sidenote: i don't want to build a rogue interface, but i'm trying to build something similar that is measuing client side time but should not be easy to cheat on.

• How do I create an MBR on a USB stick using DD command line tool

  Okay I'm trying to create a BOOTABLE Windows7 image on a USB key from a Mac running Lion. My image is .iso format. I tried: sudo dd if=/Users/myusername/Win7.iso of=/dev/disk1 bs=1m And this succeeded in writing the files, except in DISK UTILITY on the mac, it shows the partition type as GUID Partition Table and not 'Master Boor Record'. Booting the key on my Vista computer yields the error "No boot sector on USB Device' From what I can tell, bs=1m in the DD command should have left 1 Megabyte for the boot sector, but for some reason this area of the USB Key is not set up correctly so that it will boot How can I fix this, or correctly use dd to write a bootable cd image such that it is now a bootable usb drive? Note: in the instructions I read about, they recommended renaming my Win7.iso to Win7.dmg before using DD, which made absolutely no sense to me, so I didn't do it. I could try with that step now, but it takes 1.99 hours to write the image to the USB drive so there is a huge penalty to trial and error here. Thank you.
