  • Strange lifecycle behaviour with f:ajax and valueChangedListener

    - by gerry
I want to use the f:ajax tag to update a part of a page with a editor gui, which style depends on a selectOneMenu and its selected item. The problem is, that if the ajax is called the server first renders the editor and then executes the valueChangedListener method. In my JSF2.0 / Facelets app I've the following code: ... <h:selectOneMenu id="typeSelect" validator="#{addEntityBean.checkType}" value="#{addEntityBean.selectedTypeAsString}" valueChangeListener="#{addEntityBean.selectedTypeChanged}"> <f:ajax render="editorGrid"/> <f:selectItems value="#{addEntityBean.entityTypeListAsString}"/> </h:selectOneMenu> ... <h:panelGrid id="editorGrid" columns="2" binding="#{addEntityBean.dynamicEditorGrid}" /> The BackingBean code looks like this: public String getSelectedTypeAsString() { return selectedTypeAsString; } public void setSelectedTypeAsString(String selectedType) { this.selectedTypeAsString = selectedType; } public Class<? extends Entity> getSelectedType() { log.severe("getSelectedType"); Class<? extends Entity> res = null; if(selectedTypeAsString != null){ int index = entityTypeListAsString.indexOf(selectedTypeAsString); res = entityTypeList.get(index); } return res; } public void selectedTypeChanged(ValueChangeEvent event){ setSelectedTypeAsString((String)event.getNewValue()); Class<? extends Entity> clazz = getSelectedType(); if(clazz != null){ try { setEntity(clazz.newInstance()); } catch (Exception e) { log.severe(e); } } else{ setEntity(null); } } public HtmlPanelGrid getDynamicEditorGrid() { HtmlPanelGrid grid = DynamicHtmlComponentCreator.createHtmlPanelGrid(); Entity entity = getEntity(); if(entity != null){ log.severe("getEntity() -->"+entity.getClassName()); grid = (HtmlPanelGrid)buildGui(grid, entity, "entityBean.entity", false); } else log.severe("getEntity() --> null"); return grid; } The problem is, that the server logs show that at first the getDynamicEditorGrid() is executed. And later the selectedTypeChanged()-listener-method. So everytime the selected editor style type is update one selection later. I.e. after a page reload (the type is initally null) the user selects the A, now the getDynamicEditorGrid() is executed again with type null and after that the type is changed to A. Again the user selects now B (after A) and now the getDynamicEditorGrid() is executed with the type A and after that the type is changed to B. What is wrong with my code? How can I fix this really strange behavior...

  • unwanted space before and after nested html table using Internet Explorer 8

    - by John
I have an html table nested in an html table cell. I want the nested table to use the full size of the cell it is nested in. When I use firefox or google chrome I get the result I want but when I use Internet Explorer 8 (even if I use td style="height="100%") the height of the nested cell depends on it's content. As a result I get whitespace before and after my nested table.

  • Jquery Var Returned As object

    - by alex
I'm trying to pass a variable from one function to another, but the var elmId is being returned as an object and giving an error. When we click on any of the generated divs we should be able to change the size of the div by choosing a width / height value from the drop down menus. I'm trying to pass the clicked div id which is elmId to function displayVals but it is not working. If we replace "#"+elmId in the function displayVals with the actual id of the first div created with is "#divid1" then it works. Why is the value of var elmId not being passed to displayVals <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.7/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" type="text/css" media="all" /> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.7/jquery-ui.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <style> .aaa{width:100px; height:100px; background-color:#ccc;} button{width:100px; height:20px;} </style> <button class="idiv">div</button> <select id="width"> <option>100px</option> <option>200px</option> <option>300px</option> </select> <select id="height"> <option>100px</option> <option>200px</option> <option>300px</option> </select> <p></p> <script type="text/javascript"> var divId = 1; $("button").click(function(){ var elm = $('<div id=divid' + divId + ' class=aaa></div>'); elm.appendTo('p'); divId++; }); $("p").click(function(e){ var elmType = $(e.target)[0].nodeName, elmId = $(e.target)[0].id; return displayVals(elmId); }); function displayVals(elmId) { var iwidth = $("#width").val(); var iheight = $("#height").val(); $("#"+elmId).css({width:iwidth, height:iheight}); console.log(elmId); } $("select").change(displayVals); displayVals(); </script>

  • Create a Color Picker, similar to Photoshop's, using Javascript and HTML Canvas

    - by André Alçada Padez
    I am not at all versed in Computer Graphics and am in need of creating a color picker as a javascript tool to embed in an HTML page. First, and looking at Photoshop's one, i thought of the RGB palette as a three-dimensional matrix. My first attempt envolved: <script type="text/javascript"> var rgCanvas = document.createElement('canvas'); rgCanvas.width = 256; rgCanvas.height = 256; rgCanvas.style.border = '3px solid black'; for (g = 0; g < 256; g++){ for (r = 0; r < 256; r++){ var context = rgCanvas.getContext('2d'); context.beginPath(); context.moveTo(r,g); context.strokeStyle = 'rgb(' + r + ', ' + g + ', 0)'; context.lineTo(r+1,g+1); context.stroke(); context.closePath(); } } var bCanvas = document.createElement('canvas'); bCanvas.width = 20; bCanvas.height = 256; bCanvas.style.border = '3px solid black'; for (b = 0; b < 256; b++){ var context = bCanvas.getContext('2d'); context.beginPath(); context.moveTo(0,b); context.strokeStyle = 'rgb(' + 0 + ', ' + 0 + ', ' + b + ')'; context.lineTo(20, b); context.stroke(); context.closePath(); } document.body.appendChild(rgCanvas); document.body.appendChild(bCanvas); </script> this results in something like My thought is this is too linear, comparing to the ones i see in Photoshop and on the web. I would like to know the logic behind the color mapping in a picker like this: I don't really need the algorythms itself, i'm mainly trying to understand the logic. Thanks

  • CSS to specify positions over a scanned document

    - by itsols
I'm trying to write the CSS rules to position text over a scanned document. Reason: The document is a pre-printed form. I am trying to position the text on-screen so that it relates to the 'spaces' on the actual form. Issue: Although I position the values using centimeters, they don't seem to get aligned with the ones on the actual page. I can see this misalignment since my scanned image is in the background of the page. What I've tried: I used a ruler to physically measure the locations and specify them with CSS. But on-screen, it doesn't tally. I used the scanned image to position the CSS values. Then the printout is not correct. I even scaled the scanned page using Inkscape to the exact dimensions in centimeters and took into account all margins, etc... What I need: I am trying to correctly show the output values on-screen AND have them print in the correct manner as well. I know that using two CSS sheets (one for print) is an option. But I'm developing this program away from where the actual printing is to be done. So is there a convenient way of matching the exact screen locations with those on the actual/final prinout? Thanks!

  • How to create a hover effect in a newsletter?

    - by Moak
I'm creating a newsletter, and i want to have panels that change background-color on mouse over. Seeing as the newsletter wont have a head, I am defining all styles inline. I'm pretty sure most popular mail clients will block JS. So I was wondering if I can define a hover effect in the style attribute. Or is there any other solution to achieve this effect? Peace

  • Making a row of divs all be the same height using CSS

    - by pavel
I have a row of divs that must all be the same height, but I have no way of knowing what that height might be ahead of time (the content comes from an external source). I initially tried placing the divs in an enclosing div and floated them left. I then set their height to be "100%", but this had no perceptible effect. By setting the height on the enclosing div to a fixed-height I could then get the floated divs to expand, but only up to the fixed height of the container. When the content in one of the divs exceeded the fixed height, it spilled over; the floated divs refused to expand. I Googled this floated-divs-of-the-same-height problem and apparently there's no way to do it using CSS. So now I am trying to use a combination of relative and absolute positioning instead of floats. This is the CSS: <style type="text/css"> div.container { background: #ccc; position: relative; min-height: 10em; } div.a { background-color: #aaa; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; bottom: 0px; width: 40%; } div.b { background-color: #bbb; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 41%; bottom: 0px; width: 40%; } </style> This is a simplified version of the HTML: <div class="container"> <div class="a">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Integer pretium dui sit amet felis. Integer sit amet diam. Phasellus ultrices viverra velit.</div> <div class="b">Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Integer pretium dui sit amet felis. Integer sit amet diam. Phasellus ultrices viverra velit. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Integer pretium dui sit amet felis. Integer sit amet diam. Phasellus ultrices viverra velit.</div> </div> This works, unless you change the min-height to something like 5em (demonstranting what happens when the content exceeds the minimum height), and you can see that while the text doesn't get cutoff, the divs still refuse to expand. Now I am at a lose. Is there any way to do this using CSS?

  • Why jQuery selector can't work but getElementById works in this scenario?

    - by Stallman
Here is the HTML: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.7.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="jquery-1.7.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="access.js"></script> </head> <body> <button id="trigger"></button> <img id= "testElement" style= "position: absolute; border-color: white; top:340px; left:615px;" width="34px" height= "34px" /> </body> </html> And the access.js file is: $(document).ready( function(){ $('#trigger').click(function(){ $('#testElement').src="success.png"; //THIS WON'T WORK. document.getElementById('testElement').src= "success.png"; //BUT THIS WORKS. }); }); I know that if I use $, the return object is a jQuery object. It's not the same as getElementById. But why the jQuery selector can't work here? I need the jQuery object to make more operations like "append/style"... Thanks. UPDATE Too much correct answers appear at almost the same time... Please give more explanations to let me decide who I should give the credit, thanks!!! Sorry for my poor understanding of your correct answer... I just want more detail. Are all the attribute nodes(src/width/height...) not the property of jQuery object? So does the jQuery selector only select DOM Element Node like ? Thank you! 3. List item

  • Weird behaviour of Calendar and DateFormat

    - by Nejc
I encountered really strange behaviour when constructing a Calendar object and then formating it in a particular style. Let the code do the talking: public class Test { public static void main(String[] args) { SimpleDateFormat frmt = new SimpleDateFormat(); frmt.applyPattern("yyyy-MM-dd"); GregorianCalendar date = new GregorianCalendar(2012,1,1); System.out.println(frmt.format(date.getTime())); } } The output is: 2012-02-01 The expected output is of course: 2012-01-01 What am I doing wrong?

  • jquery - targetting a select using $this

    - by Maureen
    I am trying to get individual selects (which have the same class as other selects) to respond to a .change function, however it only works on one of the selects. If you test out this code it will make more sense. Try to add a few "ON/OFF events", and then select "Specified Time" in the various selects. You'll see only the first one responds. Any ideas? Thanks! Please see the following code: $(document).ready(function() { var neweventstring = '<div class="event">Turns <select name="ONOFF"><option value="On">ON</option><option value="Off">OFF</option></select> at: <select name="setto" class="setto"><option>Select Time</option><option value="Sunrise">Sunrise</option><option value="Sunset">Sunset</option><option value="specifiedtime">Specified Time</option></select></div>'; $('#addmondaysevent').click(function () { $('#monday .events').append(neweventstring); }); $('.setto').change(function() { alert('The function is called'); if($("option:selected", this).val() =="specifiedtime"){ alert('If returns true'); $(this).css("background-color", "#cc0000"); $(this).after('<div class="specifictime"><input type="text" value="00" style="width:30px"/> : <input type="text" value="00" style="width:30px"> <select name="ampm"><option value="AM" selected>AM</option><option value="PM">PM</option></select></div>') } }); }); And my HTML: <div id="monday"> <h2>Mondays</h2> <div class="events"> <div class="event"> Turn <select name="ONOFF"> <option value="On">ON</option> <option value="Off">OFF</option> </select> at: <select name="setto" class="setto"> <option>Select Time</option> <option value="Sunrise">Sunrise</option> <option value="Sunset">Sunset</option> <option value="specifiedtime">Specified Time</option> </select> </div> [<a id="addmondaysevent">Add an ON/OFF event</a>] </div> </div>

  • How to create a 'global event' in actionscript / flex?

    - by Simon
What is the best way to create a 'global event' in flex/actionscript - preferably using a static class? I want to raise an event to indicate that a stylesheet is loaded in order to show components that require that stylesheet. So I want each portion of the application that requires a style from the stylesheet to listen to an event telling it that the styles are all loaded.

  • Serialize JavaScript's navigator object

    - by kappa
Hi, I'm creating a page to help diagnose the problem our users are experiencing with our web pages (you know, asking a user "What browser are you using?" usually leads to "Internet"). This page already submits to me all the HTTP headers and now I'm trying to have JavaScript give some more informations, so I thought it would be great to have the user's navigator JavaScript object and I started looking how to serialize it so I can submit it through a form. The problem is I'm not able to serialize the navigator object using any JSON library I know of, everyone returns an empty object (?!), so I decided to write an ad-hoc serializer. You can find the code here: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.0/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function serialize (object) { var type = typeof object; if (object === null) { return '"nullValue"'; } if (type == 'string' || type === 'number' || type === 'boolean') { return '"' + object + '"'; } else if (type === 'function') { return '"functionValue"'; } else if (type === 'object') { var output = '{'; for (var item in object) { if (item !== 'enabledPlugin') { output += '"' + item + '":' + serialize(object[item]) + ','; } } return output.replace(/\,$/, '') + '}'; } else if (type === 'undefined') { return '"undefinedError"'; } else { return '"unknownTypeError"'; } }; $(document).ready(function () { $('#navigator').text(serialize(navigator)); }); </script> <style type="text/css"> #navigator { font-family: monospaced; } </style> <title>Serialize</title> </head> <body> <h1>Serialize</h1> <p id="navigator"></p> </body> </html> This code seems to work perfectly in Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari but (obviously) doesn't work in Internet Explorer (at least version 8.0), it complains that "Property or method not supported by the object" at line for (var item in object) {. Do you have any hint on how to fix the code or how to reach the goal (serialize the navigator object) by other means?

  • Eclipse javascript character encoding

    - by Bardock
Hi, I'd like to display some language specific characters from javascript but I can't. My app is a Java webapp and the front end is jQuery. All the characters that are sended from the server - in a JSP or with AJAX - are displayed properly. When I want to display some text hardcoded in to the javascript file it's broken. I'm using Eclipse. In the JSP's header I use: <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=UTF-8" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%> I've tried this (charset in the script element) too: <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"><c:import url="/JS/mainJS.js" /></script> In my Eclipse I've set the project properties / text file encoding to UTF-8 AND I've checked the JS files' resource properties / text file encoding that is UTF-8 too. But when I try this: $.test = function(){ var s = "éééáááuuuu"; alert(s); } I get: éééáááűűűű The strange thing is that: When I try in a separate html file (in the same project), It's working: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <style type="text/css"> body {background: #c0c0c0;} </style> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ var s = "éááuuúúú"; $("#console").text(s); alert(s); }) </script> </head> <body> <div id="console"></div> </body> </html> Even if I DO NOT use any content type and page encoding settings. What is the problem? What shall I do? (I'm using Apache Tomcat integrated in Eclipse) Thanks in advance!

  • jQuery UI problem: why do the elements go flying around the screen?

    - by George Edison
Yes, I know the title sounds a little suspicious. I will try to explain this the best I can... The code below is supposed to have the blue div slide down beside the red div. The first time you hit the Show the div button, it works. Also, the Hide the div works. Then when I click to show the div again, it appears to the right of where it is supposed to be! Why is this?!? Note: You can find a live example of the code here <html> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>Demo</title> <style type='text/css'> #red { background-color: red; width: 200px; height: 150px; position: absolute; } #blue { background-color: blue; width: 150px; height: 200px; position: absolute; display: none; } #tester_1 { top: 300px; left: 300px; position: absolute; } #tester_2 { top: 350px; left: 300px; position: absolute; } </style> </head> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script> <script type='text/javascript'> function Show() { $('#blue').position({ of: $('#red'), my: 'left top', at: 'right top'}).slideDown(); } function Hide() { $('#blue').hide(); } </script> <body> <div id='red'></div> <div id='blue'></div> <button id='tester_1' onclick='Show()'>Show the <kbd>div</kbd></button> <button id='tester_2' onclick='Hide()'>Hide the <kbd>div</kbd></button> </body> </html>
