Multiple databases support in Symfony

I am using Propel as my DAL for my Symfony project. I can't seem to get my application to work across two or more databases. Here's my schema.yml: db1: lkp_User: pk_User: { type: integer, required: true, primaryKey: true, autoIncrement: true } UserName: { type: varchar(45), required: true } Password: longvarchar _uniques: Unique: [ UserName ] db2: tesco: Id: { type: integer, required: true, primaryKey: true, autoIncrement: true } Name: { type: varchar(45), required: true } Description: longvarchar And here's the databases.yml: dev: db1: param: classname: DebugPDO test: db1: param: classname: DebugPDO all: db1: class: sfPropelDatabase param: classname: PropelPDO dsn: 'mysql:dbname=bpodb;host=localhost' #where the db is located username: root password: #pass encoding: utf8 persistent: true pooling: true db2: class: sfPropelDatabase param: classname: PropelPDO dsn: 'mysql:dbname=mystore2;host=localhost' #where the db is located username: root password: #pass encoding: utf8 persistent: true pooling: true When I call php symfony propel-build-model, only db1 is generated, db2 is not. Any idea how to fix this problem?

I'm starting a conversion of a system from MS SQL Server to Postgres. I have the table structures converted, and I use "bcp" to get the data out of SQL Server. ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x80 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encoding expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding". CONTEXT: COPY cm_outgoing, line 200: "200 c:\temp\200.xml 2009-10-10 01:50:44.000 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000" I've already used "sed" to get rid of the NUL (0x00) entries in the file, and I can't find any instances of 0x80 in the file that I'm trying to import. Any thoughts? Is there an easier way?

Is the XML processing instructions node mandatory ?

I had a discussion with a colleague of mine about the XML processing instructions node (I'm talking about this = <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>). I believe that for something to be called "valid XML", it requires a processing instructions node. My colleague states that the processing instruction node is optionnal, since the default encoding is UTF-8 and the version is always 1.0. This make sense, but what does the standard says ? In short, given the following file: <books> <book id="1"><title>Title</title></book> </book> Can we say that: It is valid XML ? It is a valid XML node ? It is a valid XML document ? How to replicate Google "Hangouts On Air" stream combining functionality?

I've been researching this one for quite a bit but haven't found any solid leads. I have a Wowza/Flash app with video chatroom functionality and would like to combine the streams server-side into one video/audio stream in order to be sent to a live Youtube channel. I've found a couple projects such as jMixer and some helpful keywords such as "vision mixer" to help with my search but looking for any previous experience or new ideas. The other option is building something like it myself with a commercial video decoding/encoding library to raw frames, stitching the frames together, then encoding it. I was originally going down this route but put project on hold. What are some ideas, keywords, or existing software (open source preferred) to take those live streams and combine them into one in real-time? Or is coding it myself the required route? Thanks!

rake db:create not working for legacy rails app (2.3.5) using MySQL (5.5.28)

I'm a new Rails Developer, and I'm working on a legacy Rails app. Whenever I run the rake db:create command, I get an error that the database couldn't be created. I have found many StackOverflow questions related to this, but in troubleshooting nearly all permutations of solutions, I couldn't resolve the issue. I created the three Dbs (dev, prod, test), created the user with all access privileges to these dbs, and ran rake db:create. I'm running Mac OS X Lion, MySQL 5.5.28, Rails 2.3.5, Ruby 1.8.7. Here are my settings development: adapter: mysql encoding: utf8 database: adva_development username: adva password: **** host: localhost socket: /tmp/mysql.sock Here's the error: Couldn't create database for {"adapter"=>"mysql", "username"=>"adva", "host"=>"localhost", "encoding"=>"utf8", "database"=>"adva_development", "socket"=>"/tmp/mysql.sock", "password"=>"****"}, charset: utf8, collation: utf8_unicode_ci (if you set the charset manually, make sure you have a matching collation) I have done the following troubleshooting: Verified user and password are correct, and the user has access to the DB. (Double checked user access with SELECT * FROM mysql.db WHERE Db = 'adva_development' \G; User has all privileges.) Verify the socket is correct. I don't really understand sockets, but I can plainly see it at /tmp/mysql.sock. Checked collation and character set. I found out I had created the DB in latin charset and collation, so I recreated them. I ran show variables like "collation_database"; and show variables like "character_set_database"; and came back with utf8 and utf8_unicode_ci respectively. I followed the instructions in this question. After uninstalling mysql gem, I ran the following but came up with the same error: gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri mysql -- --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local/mysql-5.5.28-osx10.6-x86_64/bin --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql-5.5.28-osx10.6-x86_64/bin/mysql_config Following Matt's suggestion, here's what a rake --trace db:create reveals: ** Invoke db:create (first_time) ** Invoke db:load_config (first_time) ** Invoke rails_env (first_time) ** Execute rails_env ** Execute db:load_config ** Execute db:create Couldn't create database for {"database"=>"adva_development", "adapter"=>"mysql", "host"=>"127.0.0.1", "password"=>"woof2adva", "username"=>"adva", "encoding"=>"utf8"}, charset: utf8, collation: utf8_unicode_ci (if you set the charset manually, make sure you have a matching collation) After 3 days and six or seven hours, I have pretty much run out of options. I tried various random things, like replacing localhost with 127.0.0.1 to no avail. Could there be something wrong related to my specific environment? Mac OS X Lion + MySQL 5.5.28? I plan on trying on setting up everything in a Linux environment. Thanks!

I am parsing an html content and have output on my screen. This website have Turkish characters such as çÇsSöÖgGiIüÜ. I am not able to show them as proper characters, they are printed out as question marks yet. Eclipse - Project - Properties - Resource - Text File Encoding = Inherited from container (Cp1254) I searched web and found this solution: Eclipse - Project - Properties - Resource - Text File Encoding = Other: UTF-8 However, it's not working. It only changes my files' current characters. (I have titles that have such characters on my activities) Any help? Thanks in advance...

C++ Static Array Initialization - Memory Issue

Hi, I have a header file which contains a member variable declaration of a static char array: class ABC { public: static char newArray[4]; // other variables / functions private: void setArray(int i, char * ptr); } In the CPP file, I have the array initialized to NULL: char ABC::newArray[4] = {0}; In the ABC constructor, I need to overwrite this value with a value constructed at runtime, such as the encoding of an integer: ABC::ABC() { int i; //some int value defined at runtime memset(newArray, 0, 4); // not sure if this is necessary setArray(i,newArray); } ... void setArray(int i, char * value) { // encoding i to set value[0] ... value [3] } When I return from this function, and print the modified newArray value, it prints out many more characters than the 4 specified in the array declaration. Any ideas why this is the case. I just want to set the char array to 4 characters and nothing further. Thanks...

Django Custom Field: Only run to_python() on values from DB?

How can I ensure that my custom field's *to_python()* method is only called when the data in the field has been loaded from the DB? I'm trying to use a Custom Field to handle the Base64 Encoding/Decoding of a single model property. Everything appeared to be working correctly until I instantiated a new instance of the model and set this property with its plaintext value...at that point, Django tried to decode the field but failed because it was plaintext. The allure of the Custom Field implementation was that I thought I could handle 100% of the encoding/decoding logic there, so that no other part of my code ever needed to know about it. What am I doing wrong? Creating a json obj from a string when working without a net connection?

Hi, I have a json object returned from a third party api, it looks like: {"version":"1.0","encoding":"UTF-8"} I'm going to be working on my project without a network connection, so I have to do everything locally. How can I create an instance of a json object locally for testing? Say I copy the above string, can I do something like: var json = null; if (debugging_locally) { json = new jsonObj('{"version":"1.0","encoding":"UTF-8"}'); } else { json = doAjaxCall(); } doStuffWithJsonObj(json); so I just want to create a json object from a stored string if debugging locally - how can I do that? communicate with a process in utf-8 on a cp1252 consoless

I need to control a program by sending commands in utf-8 encoding to its standard input. For this I run the program using subprocess.Popen(): proc = Popen("myexecutable.exe", shell=True, stdin=PIPE, stdout=PIPE, stderr=PIPE) proc.stdin.write(u'ééé'.encode('utf_8')) If I run this from a cygwin utf-8 console, it works. If I run it from a windows console (encoding ='cp1252') this doesn't work. Is there a way to make this work without having to install a cygwin utf-8 console on each computer I want it to run from ? (NB: I don't need to output anything to console)

c# unicode string output

I have function to convert string to a Unicode string: private string UnicodeString(string text) { return Encoding.UTF8.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(text)); } But when I am calling this function the output result is wrong. It looks like my function is not working. Console.WriteLine(UnicodeString("????? ?????")) printing on console just questions like that: ????? ???? Is there any way to say to console to display it correct? UPDATE Looks like the problem not in Unicode, I think may be it is displaying question marks because i am not having correct locale in the system (Windows 7)? Is there any way to make it work without changing locale?

Debugging HTML & JavaScript with Firebug

I made a JSONP widget. However, when one of the partner sites put it in their page, (1) it doesn't render at all in IE and (2) in other browsers (Firefox & Google Chrome), the HTML of the widget renders incorrectly: the <aside> closes prematurely, before the Financial Aid Glossary. It's something specific to that page because it works fine on this example college resource center page. To fix these two issues, I tried saving the page source to a local file and messing around with the local file and with Firebug, deleting DOM elements and stuff. I even tried fixing the errors that The W3C Markup Validation Service found. But, I still couldn't get it to render correctly. How should I tell them to change their page so that the widget renders correctly? Or, how should I update the widget script I wrote? Getting client denied when accessing a wsgi graphite script

I'm trying to set up graphite on my Mac OS X 10.7 lion, i've set up apache to call the python graphite script via WSGI, but when i try to access it, i get a forbiden from apache and in the error log. "client denied by server configuration: /opt/graphite/webapp/graphite.wsgi" I've checked that the scripts location is allowed in httpd.conf, and the permissions of the file, but they seem correct. What do i have to do to get access. Windows 2008, IIS7 and virtual directories

I created a virtual directory called test (C:\test) under the Default Web Site and added two simple test files (one html and one aspx). I thought I had to add the IUSR and NetworkService (for application pools) to C:\test and grant the users appropriate rights in order for IIS7 to serve the content. It appears that is not the case at all as I can view any files in the virtual directory (even if I convert it to an application) without changing or adding any security settings on the C:\test folder. I just installed IIS7 with ASP.NET on Windows 2008 without changing any settings besides adding the virtual directory. Am I missing something? Even my book on IIS7 states that the user accounts should be added an appropriate rights should be added. I added the following to answer the comments: I am referencing the file using a public IP http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/test/one.html and the IP nor localhost is in my trusted sites. I am not signed in on the server at all as I am accessing the content from my home machine and the content is on my production server. The following users/groups have access to c:\test on the server (Creator Owner, System, Administrators, Users) and the app pool is running under the default NetworkService account. I basically installed win2008, added the IIS role with asp.net. I then opened IIS7, added a virtual directory and copied two files to the directory to test. It works which is great but I want to understand why it works. How is it that IIS7 can access files in the C:\test folder without any permissions set.

Email with extra '.com' behind sender email address

Currently I had a situation where I sent an email to [email protected], but when I receive mail from [email protected], it showed as [email protected], with extra '.com' behind the email address, this just happen within this week. Before this, I didn't change any setting, currently I am using Outlook 2010. When I checked the email in webmail, it also showed it as [email protected]. It seem that it has nothing to do with Outlook. However, I also tried on Thunderbird 16.0.1, but still the problem is the same. Has anyone experienced this before? Is the problem caused by the sender or receiver? Have set Expiration time: Still getting "Query string present but no explicit expiration time"

I have one local Apache instance running with mod_cache (+ disk & mem) enabled, and it seems to cache content from my appserver fine. My app server sets Expiration headers and Last-modified. Yet, when deploying on a production server with the same modules enabled, I am getting the following error in my logs: blablabla not cached. Reason: Query string present but no explicit expiration time Any clues on why Apache is not caching content? The only difference is the Apache version. Locally I am running 2.2. Is there a setting in Exchange Server 2007 that we can set to make these headers propogate and be received by a POP/IMAP client?

When using EWS Managed API to send Email via Exchange Server 2007. I noticed that MAPI clients like MS Outlook display all custom headers. But when I use POP3/IMAP clients like MS Outlook Express. I have noticed that these custom headers do not display in the message opened from MS Outlook Express. Is there a setting in Exchange Server 2007 that we can set to make these custom headers propagate and be received by a POP/IMAP client? Also why do custom headers in example below display up in lower case in MAPI clients like MS Outlook? But surprisingly if we use SMTPClient class to send email then these headers display as sent with Case Sensitive letters. eg. Header. Serving images from another hostname vs Apache overload for the rewrites

We are trying to improve further the speed of some sites with older HTML in order as well to obtain better SEO results. We have now applied some minify measures, combined html, css etc. We use a small virtualized infrastructure and we've always wanted to use a light + standar http server configuration so the first one can serve images and static contents vs the other one php, rewrites, etc. We can easily do that now with a VM using the same files and conf of vhosts (bind mounts) on apache but with hardly any modules loaded. This means the light httpd will have smaller fingerprint that would allow us to serve more and quicker, have more minSpareServer running, etc. So, as browsers benefit from loading static content from different hostnames as well, we've thought about building a rewrite rule on our main server (main.com) to "redirect" all images and css *.jpg, *.gif, *.css etc to the same at say cdn.main.com thus the browser being able to have more connections. The question is, assuming we have a very complex rewrite ruleset already (we manually manipulate many old URLs for SEO) will it be worth? I mean will the additional load of main's apache to have to redirect main.com/image.jpg (I understand we'll have to do a 301) to cdn.main.com/image.jpg + then cdn.main.com having to serve it, be larger than the gain we would be archiving on the browser? Could the excess of 301s of all images on a page be penalized by google? How do large companies work this out, does the original code already include images linked from the cdn with absolute paths? EDIT Just to clarify, our concern is not to do so much with server performance or bandwith. We could obviously employ an external CDN server but we have plenty CPU and bandwith. Our concern is with how to have "old" sites with plenty semi-static HTML content benefiting from splitting connections for images and static content via apache without having to change the html to absolute paths (ie. image.jpg to cdn.main.com/image.jpg happening on the server not the code)

Unusual Caching Issue with IE 7/8 and IIS 7

We recently moved a site into production running Server 2008 x64 and IIS 7. The ASP.NET pages apparently load just fine, but when it comes to IE 7 and 8, a weird caching issue has cropped up with the CSS and JavaScript files on the page. On a very sporadic schedule, IE does not get all the files necessary to compose the page (i.e. CSS and JS files). When I manually go to the missing files from the address bar, they come back from local cache as empty. I F5 these source files and magically they come down properly. I refresh the site after loading a few files and the cache seems to hold. This problem has only been reproduced (again, sporadically) on IE 7 and 8 running XP. Chrome and Firefox appear to be immune. We have set IIS to use server-side kernel caching for CSS, JS and images. We also have set to expire content for the App_Themes and Scripts directories to expire immediately. One initial thought it was a SWF loading an FLV on page load. These fixes have not remedied the problem. We had no problems on our staging server which is using Server 2003 and IIS 6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. P.S. Emails going to Junk for Hotmail recipients

We send daily mass emails to our customers (~30,000+ emails per day). We have problems with Hotmail users receiving our emails. Sometimes the email goes to the Junk folder, but often it will got to their inbox, but the content is blocked so the user sees a message saying "This email was blocked and may be dangerous". If an email is sent to GMAIL it is usually not blocked, but it does show up as from "Uknown" instead of the company. Please be advised I've done the following: 1. No RBLs Checked on - http://multirbl.valli.org/ 2. We do have SPF records published 3. We do have reverse DNS setup 4. nginx inserting extra characters in Multi-status reply body

Here's the setup. I've got one server running apache/php hosting ownCloud. Among other things, I'm using to do CardDAV contact syncing. In order to make things work with my domain I have an nginx server running on the frontend as a reverse-proxy to the ownCloud server. My nginx config is as follows: server { listen 80; server_name cloud.mydomain.com; location / { proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Host cloud.mydomain.com; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto http; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $remote_addr; client_max_body_size 0; proxy_redirect off; proxy_pass http://server; } } The problem is that when my phone does a PROPFIND on the server, nginx adds extra characters to the content body that throw the phone off. Specifically, it prepends d611\r\n at the front of the body and appends 0\r\n\r\n to the end of the content. (I got this from wireshark.) It also re-chunks the result. How do I get nginx to send the original content as-is?

Using NginX and Apache alongside for both static and dynamic files

Background: I've searched a lot and found these useful threads about using of Apache or NginX for static or dynamic files. But they are old (mostly about 1 or 2 years ago) and I think both webservers, specifically Nginx has had important changes in performance and usage. So I think take another look on these issue cannot be that bad. Nginx (for static files) and Apache (for dynamic content)? nginx better than apache for dynamic content? [closed] Apache or NGINX for PHP? Nginx as reverse proxy to Apache with only dynamic content? My question: I have a PHP web application with lots of dynamic files and lots of static contents (videos, images etc.) and it's currently running on a CentOS 6 server and Apache 2.2 since 2 months ago. In past few days, number of our site visitors have gained so fast and I just thought if this number continues to increase with current ratio, we need to change many things (web server, application, etc.) to prevent failures. Because of hardware limitations that we are facing, I thought that it's best for us to start with web server. Should I start with something else? Should I try to increase performance of my PHP application and forget about web server for now? (even if gonna take a long time!) Because of huge usage of .htaccess files (for redirection, rewrites, etc.), I think it's gonna be painful to migrate to NginX as default web server or maybe only for dynamic files. Does this mean that I can't even use Nginx as reverse proxy? I'm not sure latest stable version of NginX and PHP-FPM have a better performance over my current Apache and my limitations (too many things) won't let me to give it a try. Which one is doing better currently? What will I lose by migrating to Nginx? To make it short, what should I do?

Can I disable chrome's auto translate function for visitors to a given page on my site?

I know how to disable this feature for pages that I visit, but what I'm looking for is a way to tell other user's Chrome browsers not to offer translation a particular page on my site. Is there some kind of meta tag I can use? Alternatively, can I indicate that a particular element on the page should not be translated? Reason: The controls which slide down from the top of the page cause my page to resize, which changes the content, which makes the control slide up, which resizes the page, which changes the content, which causes the controls to slide back in. Rinse and repeat. The page dances. The page itself is a map, and the content it wants to translate are all proper names and shouldn't be translated anyway. If alternate names exist in other languages, I provide them myself. Generally I'm against taking away features from the browser that users might like, but in this case it really makes sense. So please don't answer saying that I shouldn't be doing this. I've weighed up the options.
