  What is the most efficient way to pass data (list of pairs of [Integer, Double]) between two Google App Engine instances ? Currently I use Java binary serialization. Frontend servlet receives data from the client in JSON format. I convert it to byte[] using ObjectOutput.writeObject and then send it to backend servlet via HTTP POST. It's not in production yet. Should I just pass client's JSON as it is to backend? It seems more logical. But it's bigger in size. Or should I use Google Protocol Buffers as stated in this benchmark article ? Thank you!!!

  If I've got a 2 dimensional array. string[,] table = { { "aa", "aaa" }, { "bb", "bbb" } }; And I'd like to foreach through it like this. foreach (string[] row in table) { Console.WriteLine(row[0] + " " + row[1]); } But, I get the error "Can't convert type string to string[] Is there a way I can achieve what I want, i.e. iterate through the first dimension of the array with the iterator variable returning me the 1 dimensional array for that row?   Hello, I'm working with a small team of developers. My job is to convert a Make project (with Intellij Idea 9.0) into a Maven 2 project. The problem is : we spend a lot of time during the development. With Make, only one complete build was required and then any change did not consume a lot of time (almost instantaneously). On the other hand, with Maven 2, a little change takes a lot of time to run. Any solution ? Thanks.

  With the following code void TestF(const double ** testv){;} void callTest(){ double** test; TestF(test); } I get this: error C2664: 'TestF' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'double **' to 'const double **' I cannot understand why. Why test cannot be silently casted to const double**? Why should I do it explicitly? I know that TestF(const_cast<const double**>(test)) makes my code correct, but I feel this should be unnecessary. Are there some key concepts about const that I'm missing?

  Hi there, I am thinking about converting my web apps into Android apps to reach the Android market. I do not have an Android phone. Can someone tell me how I can possibly get a Google developer phone (other than going to Google I/O, etc)? I realize this is somewhat of a ridiculous request but I have read blogs of people being enticed by google and offered a free phone to convert their web apps into Android apps. So I figure there is no harm in asking. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks I am also wondering what the cost of the developer phone is once you pay your $25 to enter the android market place as a developer through the developer account.

  I am trying to convert a date to a DateTime Object. My code works fine on my localhost (php version 5.3) but returns a blank DateTime object on my remote server (php version 5.2.14). Model User has_many groups, clients and products. In translation this would be status = User.find(import.user_id).groups.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).clients.import(import.file.path) status = User.find(import.user_id).products.import(import.file.path) I was thinking of import = Import.find(id) status = eval("User.find(#{import.user_id}).#{import.model}").import(import.file.path) but this gives me an error 'TypeError: can't convert nil into String'.   I have an Email body that used to be plain text, but now I've made it HTML. The emails are generated using a number of methods and none of them are easy to convert. What I have is: Some content [email protected], some http://www.somewebsite/someurl.aspx. What I'd like to do is create a function that automatically encloses all email addresses and all URLs withing a string in HREF tags so that the HTML email reads properly in all email clients. Does anyone have a function for this?

  Hi, I am working on a web site with several other developers and we have had problems where people commit JavaScript code with AJAX calls that use URL's relative to the site root. An example would be /Home/Index which will not work if the site is hosted in a virtual directory. To get round the problem we use a $.url() method to convert it to a full path, e.g. $("#container").load($.url("/Home/Index")) I am trying to write a unit test that will search each JavaScript file and find places where the $.url method is not being used. The only problem is that I cannot seem to write a regex expression to do this. I have tried the following: (?!\$\.url\()"(/\w*)+" But this does not work. I cannot find a way to say that I don't want the $.url in front. Does anyone know if this is possible? Note that I need regular expressions that are compatible with .NET Thanks.

  In cake php I can grab a model's fields by using the find() method. What if I wish to apply a transformation function to the fields? Is there a way to directly accomplish this task? Suppose I have a model called RaceTime with the fields racerId and timeMillis RaceTime +------------+ | Field | +------------+ | id | | racerId | | timeMillis | +------------+ timeMillis is an int specifying how long the race took in milliseconds. Obviously saying a race took 15651 milliseconds isn't very useful to a human reader, and I would wish to convert this to a human readable format. Is there a way to accomplish this directly in find()? Or is the only option to loop through the results after find() finishes?

  First i thought that i had to convert javascript to php, but then i found out that cant because of server and client side executions. So now I simply want to send ONE variable <script type="text/javascript"> function scriptvariable() { var theContents = "the variable"; } </script> to a php variable <?php $phpvariable ?> That function in the javascript executes when lets say i click on a button. Now i have Nooo idea how to get that phpvariable Equal to the javascript one so i can use that phpvariable to look up stuff in my Database. I know i can add it to my url or some thing, and just refresh the page.. But id like to do it with AJAX as further in my webpage i might have to use this Ajax method.. So is there an easy way to do this without having to dump pages of code on my page to do one simple thing?

  I have 2 objects, both of which I want to convert to dictionarys. I use toDictionary<(). The lambda expression for one object to get the key is (i = i.name). For the other, it's (i = i.inner.name). In the second one, i.name doesn't exist. i.inner.name ALWAYS exists if i.name doesn't. Is there a lambda expression I can use to combine these two? Basically to read as: "if i.name exists then set id to i.name, else set id to i.inner.name". Many thanks.

  I'm thinking about encrypting MP3s in a database, so that when user is downloading them with his software desktop player, only the software can decrypt them. This part is not a problem. The problem is I don't want a user to upload an mp3 to the database, then check which changes have been made to the file so he can reverse-engineer the file or at least see which algorithm is used to encrypt the files. So, user uploads MP3-A, then it becomes MP3-B because it has been modified, and I encrypt it to MP3-C. And when decrypted, it sounds 99.99% like MP3-A. I know MP3 format is lossy, but I wonder if there's a way to convert audio with limited loss, or if I need to forget it right now.

  I want to convert an array of Place objects to json, I've been doing it like this: var places = <%= @places.to_json.html_safe %>; The only problem is that every place in the @places array has an associated tag list that doesn't get included. I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on gem to handle tags, so to get the tag list for a place I need to say place.tag_list. What do I have to do to get the tag_list included for each place in the javascript array? I think I'll need to write my own to_json method but I don't know how. Thanks

  I have a question that I dont really know where to start. So I thought i'd ask it here. Basically, I have a drop down with names in it. I want these names to be in alphabetical order. Populating the drop down happens as follows; I query a database and pull down an Id and Name, make a object called "UserList", and set the name and id variables with what I get back. I then add this object to an ArrayList. I do this over and over. I then convert this collection to an array, and pass it to my JSP page using session.setAttribute("userList", UserList); I then populate the drop down as below. <c:forEach items="${usersCompanysList}" var="c" > There probably is a simple answer but how to I sort these names?

• Why does the Win32-API have so many custom types?

  I'm new to the Win32 API and the many new types begin to confuse me. Some functions take 1-2 ints and 3 UINTS as arguments. Why can't they just use ints? What are UINTS? Then, there are those other types: DWORD LPCWSTR LPBOOL Again, I think the "primitive" C types would be enough - why introduce 100 new types? This one was a pain: WCHAR* I had to iterate through it and push_back every character to an std::string as there wasn't another way to convert it to one. Horrible. Why WCHAR? Why reinvent the wheel? They could have just used char* instead, or?

  I am trying to understand why you would use jQuery.get() and jQuery.get(index). The docs say it is to convert the jQuery selection to the raw DOM object instead of working with the selection as a jQuery object and the methods available to it. So a quick example: $("div").get(0).innerHTML; is the same as: $("div").html(); Obviously this is a bad example but I am struggling to figure when you would use .get(). Can you help me understand when I would use this method in my code?
