• ODI 11g – How to override SQL at runtime?

  Following on from the posting some time back entitled ‘ODI 11g – Simple, Powerful, Flexible’ here we push the envelope even further. Rather than just having the SQL we override defined statically in the interface design we will have it configurable via a variable….at runtime. Imagine you have a well defined interface shape that you want to be fulfilled and that shape can be satisfied from a number of different sources that is what this allows - or the ability for one interface to consume data from many different places using variables. The cool thing about ODI’s reference API and this is that it can be fantastically flexible and useful. When I use the variable as the option value, and I execute the top level scenario that uses this temporary interface I get prompted (or can get prompted to be correct) for the value of the variable. Note I am using the <@=odiRef.getObjectName("L","EMP", "SCOTT","D")@> notation for the table reference, since this is done at runtime, then the context will resolve to the correct table name etc. Each time I execute, I could use a different source provider (obviously some dependencies on KMs/technologies here). • AIA - Server Topologien und Deployment

  Es gibt ein neues White Paper, in dem die verschiedenen Varianten von AIA Topologien ausführlich beschrieben sind. Die unterschiedlichen Möglichkeiten ergeben sich vor allem aus dem Betrieb mehrerer AIA Instanzen parallel (z.B. Aufteilung in Dev/Test/Prod, Aufteilung zur Lastverteilung, Zuordnung zu unterschiedlichen Geografien, ...). Weitere Variationsmöglichkeiten bietet die Verteilung der unterschiedlichen Bestandteile des DB-Schemas (AIA Metadaten, Cross-Referencing Daten, AIA Lifecycle Repository, JMS Schema, etc.). Und schließlich können auch verschiedene Topologien der SOA Laufzeitumgebung, wie beispielsweise SOA Cluster, unterstützt werden. Diese Varianten mit ihren typischen Einsatzfeldern werden in dem Dokument ebenso beschrieben, wie deren Umsetzung mit Hilfe des Installers.In einem zweiten Teil befasst sich das White Paper mit dem Deployment der AIA Artefakte in diese Topologien, und zwar insbesondere mit dem Tool-Support durch die "Project Lifecycle Workbench" und dem "AIA Installation Driver". Erstere ist eine neue Komponente in AIA 11gR1, die in der Lage ist, am Ende des Entwicklungszyklus Deployment Pläne zu generieren, während der ebenfalls neue "AIA Installation Driver" dann die Artefakte dann in die Zielumgebung überträgt.Das White Paper ist noch nicht auf oracle.com verfügbar und ist leider so umfangreich, dass es nicht auf auf blogs.oracle.com hochgeladen werden kann.   JavaOne 2012 is less than a week away! If you've already made plans to be there, you're probably getting pretty excited about it already...and if not, what are you waiting for?!? • Autoscaling in a modern world&hellip;. Part 1

  It has been a while since I have had time to sit down and blog.  I need to make sure I take the time.  It helps me to focus on technology and not let the administrivia keep me from doing the things I love. I have been focusing on the cloud for the last couple of years.  Specifically the  PaaS platform from Microsoft called Azure.  Time to dig in.. I wanted to explore Autoscaling.  Autoscaling is not native part of Azure.  The platform has the needed connection points.  You can write code that looks at the health and performance of your application components and react to needed scaling changes.  But that means you have to write all the code.  Luckily, an add on to the Enterprise Library provides a lot of code that gets you a long way to being able to autoscale without having to start from scratch. The tool set is primarily composed of a Autoscaler object that you need to host.  This object, when hosted and configured, looks at the performance criteria you specify and adjusts your application based on your needs.  Sounds perfect. I started with the a set of HOL’s that gave me a good basis to understand the mechanics.  I worked through labs 1 and 2 just to get the feel, but let’s start our saga at the end of lab3.  Lab3 end results in a web application, hosted in Azure and a console app running on premise.  The web app has a few buttons on it.  One set adds messages to a queue, another removes them.  A second set of buttons drives processor utilization to 100%.  If you want to guess, a safe bet is that the Autoscaler is configured to react to a queue that has filled up or high cpu usage.  We will continue our saga in the next post…

• Lubuntu Stability Problems

  I installed Lubuntu 11.10 from scratch a few days ago, now I can't even run aptitude without crashing from the mess it's made of the package system. (yes I added a non-offical repository, because I needed firefox 8) I'm a new user. So I don't know. Did I make a mistake by loading Lubuntu? I really like the LXDE stuff. but so many things seem very buggy. ***edit I think besides the sound problems, all of my other problems are with either LXDE or with openbox. And I think the sound problem is Lubuntu specific also. Problems like windows not popping up, windows not getting painted. Windows flashing in the panel for no reason, Windows losing their title bar occasionally, mousewheel changing desktops when i'm clearly in a window, LXDE panel not responding to clicks, applications not launching from the menu, applications not launching from firefox downloads window, applications crashing when I don't do anything but click on them. Pretty sure all this stuff is openbox or LXDE. This is just too much work to keep Lubuntu running. It's a lemon. (sorry I realize I should be constructive but I'm tired) It's pretty clear that openbox needs some damn bugfixes for compatibility with Oneric. And LXDE isn't that great either. I expect things to launch when I click on them. I think installing the acpid package is what made it clear to me. If 20 seconds after installing the package (from the offical repo), linux has already crashed, then I'm in the wrong damn neighborhood.

  I have seen that there are a lot of threads about this problem. I had Windows 8 installed on my series 3 samsung i5 computer and I tried to install ubuntu 13.04. This is what I did: Because of the secure boot I can't install ubuntu from the dvd. So I went in the bios and disabled secure boot and enabled ''CSM''. I went out of the bios and windows 8 couldn't boot more. So I follow a guide on this thread ( Installing on a Pre-Installed Windows 8 System (UEFI Supported) ) and on ubuntu I tried to repair the boot by inserting this code in the terminal: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install boot-repair Then I ran boot-repair and I follow all the steps. Then I reboot the sistem and saw the black screen that says: error: file '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal mod' not found grub rescure> Now I saw a lot of guides about this problem but I can't understand how to reistall ubuntu trough the live dvd that I used to install it the first time... I put it in the computer but nothing appears.. so what should I do now? I'm a noob on ubuntu and I have read all the things about this grub 2 install and know where the problem comes from but how to start the dvd??

  I was actually hired at Oracle Health Sciences to work on the HTB application. Long story short, when HL7 version 3 was relatively new ... Canada made an initial sprint at adoption. Since then progress has slowed. I was part of that initial adoption and learned a lot about the Reference Information Model. At that time we worked mostly with CDA R2 Level 3 (fully coded/ structured xml) documents.HTB is a HL7 v3 RIM-based repository. Love it or hate it, the product is unique in the market place. One of the advantages is the flexibility of the model. You can aggregate information from literally any source system without any HTB data model modification and then use that data in a semantically meaningful way. That's extremely powerful.There is a minor speed bump getting up to speed with HL7 v3, there's no doubt about that. I believe that is why Oracle recruited me from Canada originally - so I could have a running start at HTB. In the near future I'm looking forward to an application deep dive with John Hatem.
