I have seen tutorials which use an SDL_Surface for rendering to while other tutorials use SDL_Window and obtain an openGL context from that and render to that, with no mention of surfaces. I understand what the differences between the two are, but is there any advantage in using one over the other? Can I use the SDL_Window technique to create high quality games or does the SDL_Surface approach get me better results?

  • QNTC and Windows Server 2008 R2

    I am having a really hard time getting an iSeries (AS/400) machine talking to my new Windows Server 2008 R2 box using the QNTC file system on the iSeries. I had similar problems getting it to initially talk to a Windows Server 2003 machine, but enabling the local Guest account on the 2003 box solved that one. No such luck with the new 2008 box. When I do a WRKLNK /QNTC/SVR01 on the iSeries (which should show share listings, and does on any 2003 boxes) all I get is (Cannot find object to match specified name.). I know the iSeries likes the same username and password on the remote server, but unfortunately for us this is not the case. Anyhow, it does currently work with different username/password combinations on a 2003 box. To try and get the wretched things talking, I have made the 2008 server pretty open but the iSeries will not see shares on it. I have enabled the local Guest account, turned Windows firewall off, set the share permissions so Everyone has full control but to no avail. I read something on the internet about the iSeries only being able to handle NTLM authentication (and I understand by default that Server 2008 R2 only uses NTLMv2 and has NTLM disabled), so I made a special group policy for the server and tweaked all Group Policy settings under Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options but the iSeries STILL won't see it. We have a team of programmers who do all the system administration of the iSeries, but they are stumped for ideas on their side, and I'm stumped for ideas on my side. This is driving me crazy now, and if anybody has managed to get an iSeries to talk to Windows Server 2008 R2 using QNTC I would be very appreciative of any suggestions, be it on the Windows side, iSeries settings or even IBM PTF's that might patch anything. The iSeries is running V5R4 and I have *SECOFR privileges on it, if it helps. One final (most important!) note - The programmers think it's my system being tricky, and I think it's theirs - please prove me right :)

    Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful.   • TortoiseSVN hangs in Windows Server 2012 Azure VM

    Following @shanselman's article on remoting into an Azure VM for development, I spun up my own VS 2013 VM, and that image runs on WS 2012. Once I was able to remote in, I started installing all my dev tools, including Tortoise SVN 1.8.3 64bit. Things went south once I started attempting to check out code from my personal svn server. It would hang and freeze often, although sometimes it would work - I was able to partially check out projects, but I would get frequent connection time out errors. My personal svn server (VisualSVN 2.7.2) runs at home on a windows 7 machine, and I have a dyndns url pointing to it. I have also configured my router to passthrough all 443 traffic to the appropriate port on the server. I self-signed a cert and made sure it was imported into the VM cert store under trusted root authorities. I have no problems connecting to my svn server from 4-5 other computers & locations. From the Azure VM, in both IE and Chrome, I can access the repository web browser with no issues. There are no outbound firewall restrictions. I have installed other SVN add-ons for Visual Studio (AnkhSVN, VisualSVN) and attempted to connect with my svn server, with largely the same results - random and persistent connection issues (hangs/timeouts). I spun up a completely fresh WS 2008 Azure VM, and installed TortoiseSVN, and had the same results. So I'm at a loss as to what the problem is and how to fix it. Web searches on tortoisesvn and windows server issues doesn't yield any current or relevant information. At this point, i'm guessing that maybe some setting or configuration that MS Azure VM images is the culprit - although I should probably attempt to spin up my own local WS VM to rule out that it's a window server issue. Any thoughts? I hope I'm just missing something really obvious!

  • ADFS 2.1 proxy trust establishment error

    I'm trying to install an ADFS proxy. In our intranet we have a ADFS 2.1 server running on Windows 2012 which is working fine. Now we're trying to deploy a proxy to this one for internet access, using Windows 2012 R2's Web Application Proxy. I'm getting the following error on the proxy server, event ID 393: Message : An error occurred while attempting to establish a trust relationship with the Federation Server. An error occurred when attempting to establish a trust relationship with the federation service. Error: Forbidden Context : DeploymentTask Status : Error I'm not getting any errors on the ADFS server. I've tried with different credentials. The ADFS service account, a domain administrator who is a member of the local administrators group on the ADFs server, and the local administrator account on the ADFS server. Same error message. Both port 80 and 443 is accessible from the proxy server to the internal ADFS server, and I can access the ADFS metadata endpoint from the proxy server. I'm using the same trusted SSL certificate (wildcard) on both machines. Do you have any ideas that can help me troubleshoot this problem?

  • ARR troubleshooting 502.3 / WinHttp tracing on Server 2012

    I have the following scenario: 3 windows server 2012 virtual servers, all with IIS 8: 1 server with Application Request Routing 3 2 servers with the web applications that the ARR server routes to I am getting intermittent 502 3 12002 errors. Following this guide http://www.iis.net/learn/extensions/troubleshooting-application-request-routing/troubleshooting-502-errors-in-arr I have identified that I need to trace using netsh the WinHttp/WebIO providers to get to the real error code that is mapped to the 12002 error code. I run the trace as the article suggests: netsh trace start scenario=internetclient capture=yes persistent=no level=verbose tracefile=c:\temp\net.etl When analysing the output of the netsh traces, I don't get the level of information that the article suggests I should. Specifically I only get the following types of entry in the trace viewed using netmon: WINHTTP_MicrosoftWindowsWinHttp:Stopping WorkItem Thread Action... WINHTTP_MicrosoftWindowsWinHttp:Starting WorkItem Thread Action... WINHTTP_MicrosoftWindowsWinHttp:Queue Overlapped IO Thread Action... I certainly don't get anything detailed enough that would help me understand why am getting any timeouts. Is there any reason why Server 2012 wouldn't trace the WinHttp API to the level I need?     I so sick and tired of having my components pass the minimum requirements of a game and then I get 15 FPS on the game on everything low. Should't PC developers say 'use at least this video card for a smooth 30 FPS'? Here are my specs: Windows 7 2GB DDR2 RAM XFX Nvidia 9400gt Intel Pentium D Dual Core 2.8ghz I should be at LEAST getting 30 FPS on everything low right? Please tell me what I can do to make games run as they should, or is my video card not good for these games? Here are the recommended requirements from the official site: Recommended System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC Operating System: Windows XP or Vista Processor: 2.6+GHZ Intel or 2.4+GHZ AMD Memory: 2 Gigabyte Ram Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or higher. ATI X1800 XL series or higher Hard Drive Space: 12 Gigabytes Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers – 5.1 sound card recommended My videocard is 9400GT, how is that worse than a 7900GTX? :S Edit 2: I should note, that I get poor frames when running the game in absolute BOTTOM specs. lowest resolution, no particles, etc. etc. Absolute ZERO and getting poor framerates.

  • Invalid format for New Relic licence when installing on Elastic Beanstalk

    We've created an app that is running on an Elastic Beanstalk instance, 64 bit PHP version 5.4 (so not legacy). I've used the New Relic installation instructions to install New Relic, and viewing phpinfo shows that New Relic is installed. However, I'm not getting any data in New Relic and that is because it is saying that the licence is ***invalid format*** under newrelic.licence I'm getting the licence from my New Relic account, and it is a 40 character hexadecimal string. Here is the current newrelic.config file in the .ebextensions folder I'm using, with most of the licence key commented out. packages: yum: newrelic-php5: [] rpm: newrelic: http://yum.newrelic.com/pub/newrelic/el5/x86_64/newrelic-repo-5-3.noarch.rpm commands: configure_new_relic: command: newrelic-install install env: NR_INSTALL_SILENT: true NR_INSTALL_KEY: ec9a4... Skitch of relevant phpinfo Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here? I've tried two different New Relic licence keys with the same error, I've also surrounded it with a single quote mark and tried uppercase only. And at this point I'm out of ideas on what to try. We're not AWS gurus so it could very easily be something simple like not opening a port to allow the licence to be validated?
