• IIS application pool and UAC

  Hi, My system is Windows Server 2008 R2 with IIS 7.5. I need to run a site which is allowed to do some administrative tasks. I have created an AD user account and added it to all the required groups. The site's application pool runs with custom identity set to this AD account. This works, however some tasks fail with 'Access is denied'. I have found that it was caused by UAC (with UAC disabled everything works ok). So my question is - is it possible to run an application pool in elevated mode without globally disabling UAC? Possibly just disabling UAC just for this one account.

• Wireshark (WinPCap) does not see Intel X520-DA2 10 GbE NIC teaming intermittently

  I am running a team of two 10 GigE ports on Intel X520-DA2 network card. They work well in tandem and achieve the desired throughput. However, I see an intermittent issue whereby WireShark and my own application (using WinPCap) only show the underlying ports, failing to recognize the team adapter. Details: Intel 17.4 NIC drivers on Windows Server 2008 R2 with all patches. HP DL370 G6 server. RSS enabled on Intel both underlying Intel NICs. • Why doesn't the People Pane in Outlook 2010 show appointments for individual contacts?

  Outlook 2010 will not show appointments in the people pane. Under the activities tab if I go to All Items then eventually the appointments will show, but this takes a seriously long time. If I then click off the tab to look at another field then return to All Items, all the appointments are gone again. I need to be able to: Open a contact and see when that contact has appointments Open an appointment and see which contacts are attached to that appointment It works well from the appointment card to the contact, but has me completely frustrated going from the contact card to find the appontments. I have tried many things but cannot solve this problem. My set up is as follows: Exchange Server Windows 7 Ultimate Indexing enabled Cached exchange mode enabled Help! This is the whole reason I installed Outlook 2010.

• Is this a common/bug on this PPPoE setting for Cisco ASA 5505?

  We have to change the way the firewall setup due to we've changed the internet provider. The way we setup we have ADSL modem and we have to do a full bridge mode and the firewall configuration has to change from Static IP to Use PPPoE option on Outside interface with PPPoE username and password, CHAP authentication, WAN IP and WAN subnet mask. [See the attachment] It's been working ok with the use of PPPoE option however the issue is that if we un-plug the power cable of the firewall. This "Outside" interface turned to blank - NO WAN IP, PPPoE username and password. So basically, we have to retype this information again. Is this common or a bug? Any ideas? Thanks

• Changing location of ClamAV logging files

  I've run into a weird problem with ClamAV that I have been unable to resolve, due to a incredibly non-informative error message. I've installed ClamAV via aptitude on an Ubuntu box (ClamAV 0.96.5/13202 according to the system) up on EC2 and it is 100% stock. We have an additional drive mounted under /mnt where we put all our log files. When I start it up with the log files in the default location, it runs just fine. However, if I change the configuration file from /var/log/clamav/clamav.log to /mnt/clamav/clamav.log I get the error ERROR: Can't open /mnt/clamav/clamav.log in append mode (check permissions!). ERROR: Can't initialize the internal logger It's the same file with the same permissions on it, just in a different location. Any thoughts or tips on how to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, I would like to change my smtp.mail name and account that is shown as sending the emails in the header. I changed the "From" but it shows only in the "visible" part of the email and there are values that are different in the header. • Can I drive two external screens from an 'Alu' iMac?

  I've got a 24" 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac. It's about 18 months old, though I can't specifically remember when I bought it. It has a Displayport Mini-DVI socket on the back, and currently I have that linked to a DVI adaptor driving a Philips 20" widescreen monitor in portrait mode (awesome for browsing). I have another, identical Philips monitor and wondered if there was a way of connecting that to the iMac too. Is there such a thing as a DisplayPort Mini-DVI to dual-DVIs adaptor? Can this iMac's graphics card even drive such a set-up? The graphics chipset in the iMac is reported as ATI Radeon HS2600, 256 MB. The main iMac display is 1920x1200 and the Philips display is 1050x1680 (@60Hz, rotated 90 degrees). The third screen would be another 1050x1680 and ideally I'd have it portrait again, too. EDIT: Please let this question stand - it's not a dupe. The current Mac laptops use 'Mini Displayport' connectors, which are not the same as DisplayPort Mini-DVI connectors.

  I've been working with OpenSolaris and ZFS for 6 months, primarily on a Sun Fire x4540 and standard Dell and HP hardware. One downside to standard Perc and HP Smart Array controllers is that they do not have a true "passthrough" JBOD mode to present individual disks to ZFS. One can configure multiple RAID 0 arrays and get them working in ZFS, but it impacts hotswap capabilities (thus requiring a reboot upon disk failure/replacement). I'm curious as to what SAS/SATA controllers are recommended for home-brewed ZFS storage solutions. In addition, what effect does battery-backed write cache (BBWC) have in ZFS storage?

• Trying To Uninstall Exchange 2007 From Server - Stuck On "Mailbox Role Checks"

  Hi All, I am trying to uninstall Exchange 2007 on a secodary server which has been decommissioned for quite a while (cleaning up after an old Network Admin). The only roll the server had was "Mailbox Role" (the primary server also has this). I have tried uninstalling using Programs and Features GUI tool but that hung on Mailbox Role Checks. I then tried uninstalling Exchange by running Setup.com /mode:uninstall. It has been stuck on 1% of "Mailbox Role Checks" for over 3 hours now. Is there any other options I have for uninstalling Exchange 2007 so the old server can be removed from the Exchange Management console?

  Lately I've noticing entries like this one in the kern.log of one of my servers: Feb 16 00:24:05 aramis kernel: swapper: page allocation failure. order:0, mode:0x20 This is what I'd like to know: What exactly does that message mean? Is my server running out of memory? The swap usage is quite low (less than 10%), and so far I haven't noticed any processes being killed because of lack of memory. Additional information: The server is a Xen instance (DomU) running Debian 6.0 It has 512 MB of RAM and a 512 MB swap partition CPU load inside the virtual machine shows an average of 0.25

• How to SSH to guest ubuntu OS in vmplayer4

  I have installed vmplayer4.0.4 on Windows7, and install ubuntu12.04 as Guest OS. Basically i have two problems: Default vmplayer use NAT for network access. I could ping the guest OS from the Host OS. But how could i access the Guest OS from outside the Host OS? If i change to Bridged Mode, sure the Guest Ubuntu OS could get DHCP ip in the same subnet as Host OS. But i could not ping the Guest OS from the Host OS, or vice versa, even if i disable the iptables firewall on Ubuntu Guest OS like following: iptables -F iptables -X iptables -t nat -F iptables -t nat -X iptables -t mangle -F iptables -t mangle -X iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT I could not figure it out, could anyone help on this issue? • Everything Windows Explorer does hangs up t some time or another

  Yes this is a duplicate of something I have tried to ask in the past. I think I am posting wrong since my first question was deleted OK I ran SCANNOW nd it came back with no problems. I booted in Safe mode and windows evplorer worked OK. I am not sure what that proves. I also ran AUTRUNS and disabled everything that you said, but it still dies. I read someplace that it could be a service program, but I can't find that link anymore. Something about shutting off all non-windows SP's and then start adding back SP's until it quits. The problem is that sometimes it will work, but most of the time it does not. Makes saving or retrieving anything impossible. SAVEAS hangs up, my Garmin Map updater hangs up etc.. I was having this problem before installing Garmin so I am reasonably sure it is not the problem HELP PLEASE, I don't have many brain cells left and can't afford to lose more.

• LUKS with LVM, mount is not persistent after reboot

  I have created a Logical vol and used luks to encrypt it. But while rebooting the server. I get a error message (below), therefore I would have to enter the root pass and disable the /etc/fstab entry. So mount of the LUKS partition is not persistent during reboot using LUKS. I have this setup on RHEL6 and wondering what i could be missing. I want to the LV to get be mount on reboot. Later I would want to replace it with UUID instead of the device name. • How can I dual boot a UEFI OS and a legacy boot OS, or convert stock Windows 8 to BIOS?

  I have a computer (HP Pavilion g6-2342dx) which came with Windows 8, and thus the new UEFI boot system. I would like to install a few OS's which are not EFI compatible, and Arch GNU/Linux with BIOS mode. However, I would not like to completely wipe all my files to set to legacy. My preferred options would be to: 1. Multiboot legacy OS alongside my EFI os 2. Convert Windows 8 and Ubuntu to legacy without reformatting or switching to MSDOS part table. If anyone could suggest a solution or a method, your help would be appreciated! Thanks!

• HFS for Windows by Paragon BSOD

  Installed HFS for Windows 7 yesterday. Did a reboot. Copied some files from my internal drive to external hfs drive. Did another reboot and rebooted to Mac. Mac worked fine. Then yesterday the battery went dead on my mac and the computer switched off. This morning tried to boot into windows but got a BSOD as soon as I moved my mouse in the login screen. BSOD refeers to an error with service HFSPLUS.SYS Now when I try to boot into mac (pressing alt while restarding) the mac drive isn's shown and I can only boot into Windows 7 Safe Mode. Cannot uninstall HFS for Windows the uninstaller in control panel says: "THE WINDOWS INSTALLER SERVICE COULD NOT BE ACCESSED. THIS CAN OCCUR WHEN WINDOWS INSTALLER IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED". • local cache for NAS or network folder

  I am planning to build a network attached storage (NAS) server. Is there a way to cache frequently acccessed files from the remote storage automatically on the local PC? (I am not looking for a way to sync whole folders like rsync, but rather something that automatically and transparently caches the last accessed 50 gb of files.) Ideally I am searching for something that caches writes as well as reads, since only one pc will be accessing the server (and one day of lost changes if the local cache is damaged would be acceptable) I looked into windows offline files, but as far as I could tell this requires manual interaction to disconnect the server or go into offline mode in order to use the cache. The server would probably be running Linux or freeNAS, the pc runs Windows xp, but could be upgraded to 7 if required.

• MySQL query (over SSL) fails in IIS 7 using default AppPool identity

  I am trying to run a website locally in Windows 7 under IIS 7. I have the AppPool configured to use "Classic" mode, but connecting to a MySQL DB that requires SSL fails. If I change the identity to my user account it works perfectly. It fails when using the default "ApplicationPoolIdentity" account. Is there something I'm missing somewhere? Why would running a MySQL query over SSL fail for certain user accounts? Update: This is the exception that the MySQL Connector is throwing: "Reading from the stream has failed. Attempted to read past the end of the stream."

  Hi, I have home DSL connection from my ISP with a beetel modem at my end. I want to make my network wireless, so i bought a linksys wrt54gl and installed open-wrt on it. My ISP provides dynamic IP's with me connecting via pppoe. My question is how do I configure openwrt to work with this. Please suggest what option should I go with, or any other you recommend. DSL cable--Beetel Modem-- Wrt54gl in bridge mode with beetel modem doing the pppoe and having a DHCP server. DSL cable--Wrt54gl with wrt54gl handling the pppoe. Is option 2 possible, can I have a setup without bringing the beetel modem in the picture at all?

• Dell PR03X port replicator and DisplayPort to DVI adapter not detecting second monitor

  I have a Dell M4400 connected to a PR03X port replicator/docking station. I use the DVI port to connect it to a first Dell 2208WFP monitor and I'm trying to use a DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter to connect it to a second Dell 2208WFP monitor. The second monitor, connected via the DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter immediately goes into sleep mode and the laptop doesn't detect it. What is really weird is that it did detect it the first time I plugged it in but after I unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in it stopped working. I swapped the monitors round and it detected them both but after unplugging the monitor connected via the DisplayPort-to-DVI and plugging it in again it stopped working. Both monitors work if plugged in directly to the DVI port. Is there some way to force re-detection? Any ideas?

Any suggestions on how to debug this more?

• Url rewriting stops working after changing default port on iis7

  I have migrated the IIS6 webserver 2003 websites to IIS7 webserver 2008 using msdeploy tool. Application pool setting are changed with "Enable 32-bit Applications=true", "Managed_Pipeline_Mode=Classic","Identity=NetworkService" Framework=v1.1/2.0. All the websites are working fine on default port along with url rewriting migrated from iis6. When I start the webserver on port other than default port by changing bindings, url rewriting stops workings and get 404 error in logs. I think I don't have to change the handler mapping cause I am running it in classic mode. How can I troubleshoot this?
