    How to transfer large file (File size Heap/RAM Size) over the network ? Lets say I have file (size 10GB) I want to transfer it machine a (RAM 512mb) to machine b (RAM 512mb). Want achieve this using java code. First, is it possible ? Any recommendation on framework. If possible, can we speed this up using threading ? Important criteria: file's data sequence needs to be maintained during transfer. Any example will be great help.

    Hey SO, I have a question, pretty new at PHP and MySql but was curious is it possible to display only the most recent column to a table, from a database?   • Retrieving GET variable via PHP, send to SWF on same script?

    Is it possible to retrieve a GET variable within a PHP script and subsequently send the variable data to an SWF on the same script/document? I want the user to select an item on a PHP document and then use a Flash application I am developing to manipulate that data. I know how to load data from a PHP script into an SWF via URLLoader, but only by initiating the loading process from within the SWF. So, I am asking if it's possible to send the PHP data to the SWF from external source. Would the SWF need to listen in some manner? Is Javascript necessary here? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    is it possible to load only the latest associated record of an associated table? an example: class author attr_accessible :first_name, :last_name, :birthday has_many :books end class book attr_accessible :pages, :date of publication, :title belongs_to :author end Is there a way to generate a scope to load only the newest released book the author wrote? Or the book with the most pages? I know, that I could include or join all books. But I don't know if its possible to load only a specific book for each author.   • .BAT Switches Parsing

    Erm.. I'm working with a switches parsing in BAT files, which goes like this: <commands> -a -b -x -y -z -u abc ...... The user may input a lot of switch, or none. So I used looped shift to make parsing infinite switches possible: :loop IF "%1"=="-a" ... SHIFT GOTO loop But when the script ends, I always get cmd executing the switches and showing up error like '-n' is not recognized as an internal... So, someone got any idea? Thanks a lot... P/S: Make solution sticks with BAT script if possible as using other language may cause dependencies problem as this script is aimed on ANY computer with Windows. Finally, thanks again =) EDIT: Tried shf301 suggestion, i found out that I used DEL %0 to delete itself but it seems the %0 is shifted into the arguments because of the SHIFT command.

    Hello Guys, I am playing around with CouchDB to test if it is "possible" [1] to store scientific data (simulated and experimental raw data + metadata). A big pro is the schema-less approach of CouchDB: we have to be very flexible with the metadata, as the set of parameters changes very often. Up to now I have some code to feed raw data, plots (both as attachments), and hierarchical metadata (as JSON) into CouchDB documents, and have written some prototype Javascript for filtering and showing. But the filtering is done on the client side (a.k.a. browser): The map function simply returns everything. How could I change the (or push a second) map function of a specific _design-document with simple browser-JS? I do not think that a temporary view would yield any performance gain...   • Interpreted vs. Compiled Languages for Web Sites (PHP, ASP, Perl, Python, etc.)

    I build database-driven web sites. Previously I have used Perl or PHP with MySQL. Now I am starting a big new project, and I want to do it in the way that will result in the most responsive possible site. I have seen several pages here where questions about how to optimize PHP are criticized with various versions of "it's not worth going to great lengths to optimize PHP since it's an interpreted language and it won't make that much difference". I have also heard various discussions (especiallon on the SO podcast) about the benefits of compiled vs. interpreted languages, and it seems as though it would be in my interests to use a compiled language to serve up the site instead of an interpreted language. Is this even possible in a web context? If so, what would be a reasonable language choice? In addition to speed one benefit I forsee is the possiblity of finding bugs at compile time instead of having to debug the web site. Is this reasonable to expect?

    Some decorators should only be used in the outermost layer. EDIT It is really disgusting to let everyone trying to apply a new decorator worry about the application order. So, is it possible to avoid this kind of situation?     Is it in any way possible to launch an activity from the main function without having a UI? i.e. is there a way to create a sort of "wrapper" around another activity, i.e. by launching the main activity, it takes you to another activity automatically. If that is not possible, is there a way to remove the main activity from the stack so that clicking the back button does not take you to a blank UI?     Hi, I want to know number of rows that will be affected by UPDATE query in BEFORE per statement trigger . Is that possible? The problem is that i want to allow only queries that will update up to 4 rows. If affected rows count is 5 or more i want to raise error. I don't want to do this in code because i need this check on db level. Is this at all possible? Thanks in advance for any clues on that
