• Video compression artifacts in Flash

  This only started happening in the past two days, which seems very odd to me. Everything worked flawlessly up until now, and I use my my computer as my primary TV. Flash video from Hulu and Amazon, for no apparent reason, now have lots of artifacts in them. Some scenes are ok, but some are completely scrambled and unwatchable. My connection is a 15mb fios, and bandwidth tests indicate my connection speed is ok. I've tried the latest production version of Flash, as well as the 10.1RC4. Same problem. Enabling or disabling hardware acceleration in Flash makes no difference (with the scrambling issue, quality is better overall with hardware). Using a different H264 codec doesn't clean up the issue, although the scrambling does look different. I'm kind of stumped. The only thing I can think of now is to reinstall windows, which is obviously a drastic step. Edit: Forgot to say: Windows 7, Athlon 64X2, Geforce GTS 250

• Tomcat 6.0 service does not start: java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError

  I installed Tomcat on my Windows XP PC. But I can't get it to start. I start the service and I see the progress bar, but it fails. I installed the Java Runtime Environment Version 6 and created JRE_HOME Environment variable. (C:\Program Files\Java\jre6) Any ideas? Thanks. • How do I get a Laserjet M1212nf MFP working?

  I am trying to install a multifunctional printer Laserjet M1212nf MFP on Ubuntu 12.04. I downloaded and install the hplip indicated by the official web site. At the end of the installation I chose reboot the whole system and next I call hp-setup in the terminal (as normal user and then as root). After select in the dialog box my printer I got the following error: Searching... • Why does apt-get install Skype easily while aptitude complains about MAJOR dependency errors?

  I was trying to install Skype on Ubuntu 13.04, from the Canonical repositories. With apt-get it worked easily, while aptitude had a huge problem with dependencies and proposed a complicated solution. Why is this so?   I have a dynamic website with friendly URLs. Example: Instead of /user.php?id=123, I have /user/123 Instead of /index.php?category=fishes, I have /fishes But, how do I handle non-existent subdirectories such as /about/123? Currently it gives a 200 success instead of a 404 not found error. Is there a way to deal with non-existent subdirectories in Apache config and at the same time allow for friendly URLs? Or do I have to handle this individually for each PHP script?

  On my laptop doesn't work any camera. I get error: "Camera being used by another application"". I don`t known which program using it. I tried use software like "SplitCam" or "ManyCam".   I'm looking for a free tool to cut MPEG's that are created by recording from a USB cable receiver. There are a number of applications that do this, and some are free, but most of them take the video and audio decoded and pass them into a codec again to write the final output. I already have the MPEG's encoded the way I like, so what I need is a tool that can strip the beginning and the ending of the recording before and optionally commercial breaks, by rearranging the data within the file, not re-encoding it. Now I'm using some old software that came with the cable-receiver, but this actually re-encodes the video when exporting. I've tried VirtualDub but had major trouble getting the audio and video streams to stay in sync (and this was also re-encoding)... I found this which comes pretty close, but doesn't allow much accuracy in selecting cut positions.

  I've been using Skype 2.1beta for Linux with my bluetooth headset and quality of the sound is just awful. But not always though, if I call echo service, quality is acceptable, but when I call real people there's echo, sound is crippling, there's pauses, voice is unrecognizable, all sorts of quality problems in one call. If I use newest Skype under WIndows with the same headset to call to the same people, quality is more than normal. So, is there some settings I can tweak, like tell Skype which codec to use or maybe there's noise cancellation plugin for PulseAudio I can use or any other system setting I can try to play with?

I'm newer to this team, but the team is currently working with Apache, so whichever Portal Server we choose will likely incur a bit of a learning curve. Is there any comparison (not marketing) out there which discusses the differences in the servers and/or the total cost of ownership on them? I had to mimic this functionality on my local machine by SSL offloading Apache with a proxy, but it still isn't a 1-to-1 comparison. Similar issues can arise when dealing with stateful applications and sticky sessions.   How do you remember programming related stuff? Did you get the feeling you did encounter the error you have now a few years ago and you could swear you knew the cause but now you forgot it? Did you work with the xsl's string parsing some time ago but now you can't remember exactly which are the string functions altogether from xsl and you have to start from scratch? Or perhaps you forget about some feature from Apache Commons like "filtering a collection by some predicate" that you surely used in the past. So how do you do it? I tried having a blog but when I develop apps, I never find the time to update the blog or write about my experiences. Also, using a wiki is a nice thing but then I found it difficult to keep a clean separation between them since many times I needed to change a blog post to add new information about that topic. This made me think that I actually should have put this topic in the wiki instead of the blog. Do you have any systems that help you remember about your programming experience? What's your setup?

  I'm getting really low battery life under ubuntu, not even close to windows. I tried powertop, and I saw that my laptop is consuming in idle nearly 20 watts (a bit more). I tried to install laptop-mode-tools, change "good" into "bad" in powertop, but nothing changes. I see that I have the the HD audio output device which is running at 100% every time. • Can't install Ubuntu, black screen after install

  I tried several times, but wasn't able to make it work. I tried all recent types of Ubuntu but it didn't work. Then I tried acpi=off at the beginning of the installation. In this way I could finish the installation. But after the restart Ubuntu didn't work. Only a black screen appeared. Before that I tried it on the VirtualBox and it work.
