  • REST authentication internal project (iPhone to grails app) using 2 legged oauth?

    Hi, I'm creating an iPhone project, and will be communicating with a server via REST. I will be sending push notifications, initiated from another service. I would like to authenticate all communication from the iPhone to my server (e.g., synchronising notifications with the server as the push request is not guaranteed to go through) 2 legged Oauth seems to be the ideal solution, however there is not a lot of information regarding it, especially as most of the libraries seem to be oriented towards consumers and not providers. What library should I use? Is Oauth overkill? If so what do you recommend? I'm looking for the simplest possible solution at the moment; If it is going to take me more than a week to implement Oauth, it's simply not worth it. Thanks

  • Can you point me to current examples using NHibernate in an ASP.NET MVC2 app?

    Can anyone point me to any self-contained, complete, current reference materials/projects using NHibernate in an ASP.NET MVC2 application? I have looked at Sharp Architecture, but I am not sure I need the complexity in that project. I certainly don't know enough about it to know if it is over-engineered for my purposes. I would like to see more types of implementations to gauge the various ways people have skinned this cat.

  • How do you do A/B switching in a web app? (for deploying updates)

    I currently have a mysite.com (A) which points to /public_html/ and a dev.mysite.com (B) which I created a /dev_html/ for that. I cloned the site but now I need a way of switching between them without having to copy all the files from one dir to another and without bringing the site down. I just want to switch the live site to B and then work on A, and when I finish, switch the live site to A and work on B. Is there a simple way? I'm using cPanel X and cPanel 11 (WHM VPS). Also, both can interact with the same database so that's not an issue as I'm not changing any database structure. Only the php/js/img files need to switch.

The google market insists that the different versions must have different package names. So far i have been refactoring the package with 2 different names and changing the R resource file import each time i build the different versions.   • "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application" running .NET app in virtual XP mac

    I've written a few winform apps in .net 2.0 which won't run in a virtual XP (running from VirtualBox). I get the error "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application" (.NET Framework Initialization Error). I've tried fixing the installation of .net and also installing v3.5. I think it's probably a security issue rather than a framework problem, but i'm running under an administrator account. Other .net apps (2.0) run ok, so it might be a strong name/signing problem. I've tried compiling them completely unsigned and also delay signing them with a key and turning on verification skipping with the sn tool. help greatly appreciated!

    I've been looking around for a while now and the best guide I've seen so far is Dr Nic's DIY widgets how to (here). I haven't been able to make something like this work: Assuming this is my widget code: <script src="http://mysite/nomnoms.js"> </script> And my nomnoms controller looks like (assume that the list partial exists and simply lists down a link to the show page of each nomnom in the @nomnoms variable): class NomnomsController < ApplicationController def index @nomnoms = Nomnom.find(:all) @content = render_to_string(:partial => 'list') end end And in the index.js of my nomnoms_controller I have: page << "document.write('<div>'" page << "document.write('#{@content.to_json}')" page << "</div>" The above setup doesn't render anything :(. But when I change the second line of index.js to: page << "document.write('nomnoms should be here') ...the widget renders the text.   • .NET Splash screen issues

    I have a splash screen for my C# database application that is called via the Shown event. The splash screen contains some information that is preprocessed when the main form's constructor is called, hence why I'm using the Shown event, because that information should be available. However, when the splash screen is shown, the main form is whited out, and the menu bar, bottom menu bar, and even the gray background are all white and invisible. It looks like the program is hanging, but after the 5 second delay I have built in, the banner goes away and the program is shown normally. Also, on the banner, I have labels that are not shown when the splash screen displays... Here is my code, some reasoning behind why it isn't working would help greatly. SPLASH SCREEN CODE : public partial class StartupBanner : Form { public StartupBanner(int missingNum, int expiredNum) { InitializeComponent(); missingLabel.Text = missingNum.ToString() + " MISSING POLICIES"; expiredLabel.Text = expiredNum.ToString() + " EXPIRED POLICIES"; } } CALLING CODE : private void MainForm_Shown(object sender, EventArgs e) { StartupBanner startup = new StartupBanner(missingPoliciesNum, expiredPoliciesNum); startup.MdiParent = this; startup.Show(); Thread.Sleep(5000); startup.Close(); } Using startup.ShowDialog() shows the correct label information on the splash screen, but that locks up the application, and I need the splash to go away after about 5 seconds, which is why it's a splash. ;)

  • [MFC] Creating multiple dialogs in an MFC app with no main Window, they become children of each othe

    (title updated) Following on from this question, now I have a clearer picture what's going on... I have a MFC application with no main window, which exposes an API to create dialogs. When I call some of these methods repeatedly, the dialogs created are parented to each other instead of all being parented to the desktop... I have no idea why. But anyway even after creation, I am unable to change the parent back to NULL or CWnd::GetDesktopWindow()... if I call SetParent followed by GetParent, nothing has changed. So apart from the really weird question of why Windows is magically parenting each dialog to the last one created, is there anything I'm missing to be able to set these windows as children of the desktop? UPDATED: I have found the reason for all this, but not the solution.     I have a console application that starts up, hosts a bunch of services (long-running startup), and then waits for clients to call into it. I have integration tests that start this console application and make "client" calls. How do I wait for the console application to complete its startup before making the client calls? I want to avoid doing Thread.Sleep(int) because that's dependent on the startup time (which may change) and I waste time if the startup is faster. Process.WaitForInputIdle works only on applications with a UI (and I confirmed that it does throw an exception in this case). I'm open to awkward solutions like, have the console application write a temp file when it's ready.

  • Besides EAR and EJB, what do I get from a J2EE app server that I don't get in a servlet container li

    We use Tomcat to host our WAR based applications. We are servlet container compliant J2EE applications with the exception of org.apache.catalina.authenticator.SingleSignOn. We are being asked to move to a commercial J2EE application server. The first downside to changing that I see is the cost. No matter what the charges for the application server, Tomcat is free. Second is the complexity. We don't use either EJB nor EAR features (of course not, we can't), and have not missed them. What then are the benefits I'm not seeing? What are the drawbacks that I haven't mentioned? Mentioned were... JTA - Java Transaction API - We control transaction via database stored procedures. JPA - Java Persistence API - We use JDBC and again stored procedures to persist. JMS - Java Message Service - We use XML over HTTP for messaging. This is good, please more!
