• Disable automount in Nautilus

  I have added my mount devices in /etc/fstab and they get correctly mounted (2nd partition with ntfs and nas-share with nfs). I have also disabled automount in Nautilus preferences by using dconf-editor (following this post): user@server:~$ gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.desktop.media-handling org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount false org.gnome.desktop.media-handling automount-open false org.gnome.desktop.media-handling autorun-never false Now i see every mount device twice in Nautilus (the entry in fstab already mounted). When clicking on the other entry i get the eligible message mount.nfs: /media/nas_share is busy or already mounted How i can i disable the appearente of those devices in Nautilus? EDIT Regarding automount: I have only one line in /etc/auto.master: +auto.master

• VirtualBox

  I was wanting to play around with something in a VM the other day.  I was curious what was available for free, if anything, for windows.   I quickly came across Virtual Box  ( http://www.virtualbox.org/ ).   Downloaded, Installed. No Problem!  Works really nicely.   It was commercial software (by sun (now oracle)) that turned open source.   In terms of a license it says :- In summary, the VirtualBox PUEL allows you to use VirtualBox free of charge for personal use or, alternatively, for product evaluation. An interesting feature it has is built in RDP.   Which is useful if you have a guest OS that doesn’t support RDP.   Speaking of RDP…..  which I will in my next blog post… I learnt something REALLY useful the other day.

• Exam 71-516: Accessing Data with Microsoft .NET Framework 4

  I had the chance to take the beta version of exam 71-516 today. Here are my thoughts on it: first, I was rather annoyed to discover that I will only know if I passed or not about 8 weeks after the beta period expires (July, 02), which probably means September. It was a difficult exam, especially since I don't have any practice on some of the new Entity Framework options. The items covered, from the most covered to the least covered, were: Entity Framework (50-50 for POCO/Non-POCO) LINQ to SQL WCF Data Services Classic ADO.NET (DataSets, DataTables, DataAdapters, TableAdapters, Connections and Commands LINQ to XML Sync Framework (surprise!) All added up, I think it was a difficult exam. My advise is that you practice a lot! I will post the result as soon as I know it.

• Annoying mistake when create web template in SharePoint 2010

  I get the error    Error occurred in deployment step ‘Add Solution’: Exception from HRESULT: 0x8107026E when deploying my web template project. It turns out that your name for the Web template name has to match the name of you WebTemplate section in the element.xml file. Please see the screenshot below, the highlighted two needs to be the same. It took me so long to figure out and I will keep here in case everybody else struggle. • Cross-language Extension Method Calling

  Extension methods are a concise way of binding functions to particular types. In my last post, I showed how Extension methods can be created in the .NET 2.0 environment. In this post, I discuss calling the extensions from other languages. Most of the differences I find between the Dot Net languages are mainly syntax.  The declaration of Extensions is no exception.  There is, however, a distinct difference with the framework accepting excensions made with C++ that differs from C# and VB.  When calling the C++ extension from C#, the compiler will SOMETIMES say there is no definition for DoCPP with the error: 'string' does not contain a definition for 'DoCPP' and no extension method 'DoCPP' accepting a first argument of type 'string' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) If I recompile, the error goes away. The strangest problem with calling the C++ extension from C# is that I first must make SOME type of reference to the class BEFORE using the extension or it will not be recognized at all.  So, if I first call the DoCPP() as a static method, the extension works fine later.  If I make a dummy instantiation of the class, it works.  If I have no forward reference of the class, I get the same error as before and recompiling does not fix it.  It seems as if this none of this is supposed to work across the languages. I have made a few work-arounds to get the examples to compile and run. • Block a website on HTTPS [closed]

  I would like to block some websites on their HTTPS version and allow them on HTTP. The main websites involved are Youtube and Google Images/Videos. This is because on the HTTP version, I can enforce the Safesearch filter on those platforms, whereas I cannot on the HTTPS version. For me, this is a very serious issue which spoils many great things about the Safesearch features Google offers. Is there any software/config that can do that? P.S.: I'm not sure this is the right place to post this question in, maybe you could redirect me to some other SE platform?

• Professional iOS Development as a Backup Career [closed]

  I am a research chemist by day and I am a self-taught hobbyist iOS programmer by night. I am in the process of developing a moderately complex iOS app and hope to launch it within a month or two. I love everything about iOS development (and programming in general). I want to know if iOS development could become a backup career for me if I loose my job. My question: Let's say I had a couple of apps in the app store, a solid foundation in objective-C and the apple frameworks and basic knowledge on network integrated apps. Without a formal CS degree, what other experience/knowledge would I need to land a job as a professional iOS developer? Forgive me if this question is out of bounds for this forum. • New Release of ROracle posted to CRAN

  Oracle recently updated ROracle to version 1.1-2 on CRAN with enhancements and bug fixes. The major enhancements include the introduction of Oracle Wallet Manager and support for datetime and interval types.  Oracle Wallet support in ROracle allows users to manage public key security from the client R session. Oracle Wallet allows passwords to be stored and read by Oracle Database, allowing safe storage of database login credentials. • what are the benefits of closure, primarily for PHP?

  I am beginning the process of moving code over to PHP 5.3 and one of the most highly touted features of PHP 5.3 is the ability to use closures. My understanding of closures is that they allow anonymous functions, can be assigned to variable names, and have interesting scoping abilities. From my point of view the only seeming benefits in real world applications is the reduction of clutter in the namespace because closures are anonymous. Am I wrong in this? Should I be trying to put closures wherever I code? EDIT: I have already read this post on Javascript closures.

  I'm developing web site on self made MVC engine. I have actionController that handles operations like register, login, post submit and etc. actionController receives operation name and parameters. Of course it mast handle errors such user with same nick already exists or password is to short about which action handler have to notify user. The question is which is the best way to organize errors, such that View could easily get localized user notification message. I see two ways First one: define error constants like ERR_NICK_BUSY = '1' ERR_NICK_INVALID = '2' ... and localization map local[ERR_NICK_BUSY] = 'User with the same nick already registered' local[ERR_NICK_INVALID ] = 'Nick, you entered is invalid' ... And second one: define abstract constants like ERR_FIELD_BUSY = '1' ERR_FIELD_INVALID = '2' ... and pass them with field name. In this case localization looks like local['nick_'+ERR_FIELD_BUSY] = 'User with the same nick already registered' ... I don't like both this methods. Can you advise something else?

• Securely sending data from shared hosted PHP script to local MSSQL

  I'm trying to add data from a webhook (from a web cart) to a local Microsoft SQL Server. It seems like the best route for me is to use a PHP script to listen for new data (POST as json), parse it, then query to add to MSSQL. I'm not familiar with security concerning the connection between the PHP script (which would sit on a shared-host website) and the local MSSQL database. I would just keep the PHP script running on the same localhost (have Apache running on Windows), but the URI for the webhook needs to be publicly accessible. Alternately, I assume that I could just schedule a script from the localhost to check periodically for updates through the web carts API, though the webhooks seem to be more fool-proof for an amateur programmer like myself. What steps can I take to ensure security when using a PHP on a remote, shared-host to connect to MSSQL on my local machine?

  As a company we now have Facebook, LinkedIN, Twitter and now Google+, is there a way to easily manage all these accounts without having to log into them individually? Things like posting content to each one is becoming a full time job in itself, is there a way to post once that in turn posts to all other accounts? I used to use http://ping.fm/ a long time ago, has there been any advancements in something similar to this? With friend lists, news feeds etc etc for each one, I wish there was a way to manage them all in one place with a service/tool!

However, my engine is single-threaded, and the advantages of splitting updating and rendering into separate threads sounds like a very good idea. How should I do this? Single threaded game engines are (conceptually) very easy to make, you have a loop where you update - render - sleep - repeat. However, I can't think of a good way to break updating and rendering apart, especially if I change their update rates (say I go through the update loop 25x a second, and have 60fps for rendering) - what if I begin updating halfway through a render loop, or vice versa?

You can research the historical usage as well as real time data. This post will show how you can benefit from OS Analytics and how it works behind the scenes. The recording of our call to discuss this blog is available here: https://oracleconferencing.webex.com/oracleconferencing/ldr.php?AT=pb&SP=MC&rID=71517797&rKey=4ec9d4a3508564b3Download the presentation here See also: Blog about Alert Monitoring and Problem Notification Blog about Using Operational Profiles to Install Packages and other content Here is quick summary of what you can do with OS Analytics in Ops Center: View historical charts and real time value of CPU, memory, network and disk utilization Find the top CPU and Memory processes in real time or at a certain historical day Determine proper monitoring thresholds based on historical data Drill down into a process details Where to start To start with OS Analytics, choose the OS asset in the tree and click the Analytics tab. You can see the CPU utilization, Memory utilization and Network utilization, along with the current real time top 5 processes in each category (click the image to see a larger version):  In the above screen, you can click each of the top 5 processes to see a more detailed view of that process. Here is an example of one of the processes: One of the cool things is that you can see the process tree for this process along with some port binding and open file descriptors. Next, click the "Processes" tab to see real time information of all the processes on the machine: An interesting column is the "Target" column. If you configured Ops Center to work with Enterprise Manager Cloud Control, then the two products will talk to each other and Ops Center will display the correlated target from Cloud Control in this table. If you are only using Ops Center - this column will remain empty. The "Threshold" tab is particularly helpful - you can view historical trends of different monitored values and based on the graph - determine what the monitoring values should be: You can ask Ops Center to suggest monitoring levels based on the historical values or you can set your own. The different colors in the graph represent the current set levels: Red for critical, Yellow for warning and Blue for Information, allowing you to quickly see how they're positioned against real data. It's important to note that when looking at longer periods, Ops Center smooths out the data and uses averages. So when looking at values such as CPU Usage, try shorter time frames which are more detailed, such as one hour or one day. Applying new monitoring values When first applying new values to monitored attributes - a popup will come up asking if it's OK to get you out of the current Monitoring Policy. This is OK if you want to either have custom monitoring for a specific machine, or if you want to use this current machine as a "Gold image" and extract a Monitoring Policy from it. You can later apply the new Monitoring Policy to other machines and also set it as a default Monitoring Profile. Once you're done with applying the different monitoring values, you can review and change them in the "Monitoring" tab. You can also click the "Extract a Monitoring Policy" in the actions pane on the right to save all the new values to a new Monitoring Policy, which can then be found under "Plan Management" -> "Monitoring Policies". Visiting the past Under the "History" tab you can "go back in time". This is very helpful when you know that a machine was busy a few hours ago (perhaps in the middle of the night?), but you were not around to take a look at it in real time. Here's a view into yesterday's data on one of the machines: You can see an interesting CPU spike happening at around 3:30 am along with some memory use. In the bottom table you can see the top 5 CPU and Memory consumers at the requested time. Very quickly you can see that this spike is related to the Solaris 11 IPS repository synchronization process using the "pkgrecv" command. The "time machine" doesn't stop here - you can also view historical data to determine which of the zones was the busiest at a given time: Under the hood The data collected is stored on each of the agents under /var/opt/sun/xvm/analytics/historical/ An "os.zip" file exists for the main OS. Inside you will find many small text files, named after the Epoch time stamp in which they were taken If you have any zones, there will be a file called "guests.zip" containing the same small files for all the zones, as well as a folder with the name of the zone along with "os.zip" in it If this is the Enterprise Controller or the Proxy Controller, you will have folders called "proxy" and "sat" in which you will find the "os.zip" for that controller The actual script collecting the data can be viewed for debugging purposes as well: On Linux, the location is: /opt/sun/xvmoc/private/os_analytics/collect If you would like to redirect all the standard error into a file for debugging, touch the following file and the output will go into it: # touch /tmp/.collect.stderr   The temporary data is collected under /var/opt/sun/xvm/analytics/.collectdb until it is zipped. If you would like to review the properties for the Analytics, you can view those per each agent in /opt/sun/n1gc/lib/XVM.properties. • Helping install mrcwa and solve problems with f2py in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  I am sorry if this is the wrong section but I am starting to get desperate, please someone help me... I need to install the program mrcwa-20080820 (sourceforge.net/projects/mrcwa/) because a summer project that I am involved. I need to use it together with anaconda (store.continuum.io/cshop/anaconda/), I already installed Anaconda and apparently it is working. When I type: conda --version I got the expected answer. conda 3.5.2 If I tried to import numpy or scipy with python or simple type f2py there are no errors. So far so good. But when I tried to install this program sudo python setup.py install I got these errors: running install running build sh: 1: f2py: not found cp: cannot stat ‘mrcwaf.so’: No such file or directory running build_py running install_lib running install_egg_info Removing /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/mrcwa-20080820.egg-info Writing /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/mrcwa-20080820.egg-info Obs: I am trying to use intel fortran 64-bits and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.   I know this is considered best practise to prevent cookie hijacking. I would like to adopt this approach, but ran across a problem on our forum where the users post images which either aren't posted with URL's over HTTPS or the url itself doesn't support HTTPS. This throws up a lot of ugly browser warnings. I see I have two options: Disable HTTPS for the forum Force all user posted content to start with // in the url so it selects the right protocol, if it doesn't support HTTPS so be it Do I have any other options? How do other sites deal with this?
