• Servlet doPost() Method setup?

  I am interested in creating a web app that uses JSP, Servlets and XML. At the moment I have the following: JSP - Form input. Servlet - Retrieving Form data and sending that data to a java object. Java object (1) - Converts data into XML file....instantiates java object (2). Java object (2) - Sends that file to a database. On the returning side the database will send back another XML file that I will then process using XSLT to display back to the user. Can I place that XSLT code in the orignial Servlets doPost() method? So my doPost()` method would: Retrieve user inputted data from the form on my JSP page. Instantiate a java object to convert that data to XML, in-turn that object will instantiates another object to send the XML file to a database. Converts the resulting XML file sent from the database and displays it for the user. Can one servlet doPost() method handle all of this? If not, how would I set up my application and classes to handle this work flow? Thank you in advance

• Servlet Security question about j_security_check, j_username and j_password

  Hello, I used jdbcRealm in my web application and it's working fine. I defined all constraints also in my web.xml. Like all pages of url pattern /Admin/* should be accessed by only admin. I have a login form with uses standard j_security_check, j_username and j_password. Now, when i type Admin/home.jsf it rightly redirects me login.jsf and there when i type the password i am redirected to home.jsf. This works alright but problem comes i directly go to login.jsf and then type password and username. This time it again redirects me to login.jsf. Is there any way through which i can specify which page to go when successful login is there? I need to specify different different pages for different roles. For Admin, it is /Admin/home.jsf for general users it is /General/home.jsf because login form is shared between different type of users. Where do i specify all these things? Secondly, i want to have a remember me checkbox at the end of login form. How do i do this? By default, it is submitted to j_security_check servlet and i have no control over its execution. Please help. This doesn't seem so hard but looks like i am missing something.

• problem with drag and drop for the winform using c#

  I dont have the title bar in my winform, so i need to code drag and drop for the entire form. I am using the below code to do it, which works fine. I have two panels in my form, PanelA and PanelB. During the startup i show PanelA where the drag and drop works perfectly. Later when the user clicks the button in PannelA, i need to make PanelA visible false and show the PanelB My drag and drop is not working when the PanelB is loaded in form. • Safari Web Inspector is not updating when I update an element with ajax

  I have a checkout page http://www.oipolloi.com/oipolloi/shop/viewbasket.php with multiple ajax calls after certain items update (EG look up postage cost when country is changed, then update discount boxes etc). I've asked for help in the past about the best method of making sure ALL calls have returned before allowing the form to be submitted for payment processing: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2290372/how-do-i-prevent-form-submission-until-multiple-ajax-calls-have-finished-jquery I was fairly happy that the logic in the finished solution was correct, but I have still been receiving reports that people using Safari are able to submit the form without the ajax calls returning properly. I have tried using the Safari Web Inspector to debug but it seems that when you Inspect Element, then update an element with an ajax call, the Inspector doesn't seem to update. I am updating hidden fields, so it's hard to be able to know whether the problem lies with the DOM not being updated properly, or the Inspector itself. I'm using Safari 4.0.5 on PC and you can reproduce the problem above by looking for a div id="countryFieldsBilling" with Web Inspector. It should contain three hidden fields that are initially empty. You can try to make it update (or not) by choosing a country from the select menu at the bottom of 'Shipping Address' box, and then clicking the 'click to use Shipping Address' link at the top of the 'Billing Address' just below. The behaviour I am seeing is that the country chosen in the shipping select gets copied correctly to the country in the billing select, but the hidden inputs in the Web Inspector do not get updated. When these hidden inputs do not get updated, this causes the problem that Mac Safari users report. If you can let me know either how to get Web Inspector to work properly, or something else I may have missed in the behaviour of Mac Safari that may cause these problems, that would be great. • Why NOT use POST method here?

  I have a classifieds website. In the main page (index) I have several form fields which the user may or may not fill in, in order to specify a detailed search of classifieds. Ex: Category: Cars Price from: 3000 Price to: 10000 Color: Red Area: California The forms' action is set to a php page: <form action='query_sql.php' method='post'> In query_sql.php I fetch the variables like this: category=$_POST['category']; etc etc... Then query MySql: $query="SELECT........WHERE category='$category' etc etc.... $results = mysql_query($query); Then I simply display the results of the query to the user by creating a table which is filled in dynamically depending on the results set. However, according to an answer by Col. Shrapnel in my previous Q I shouldn't use POST here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3004754/how-to-hide-url-from-users-when-submitting-this-form The reason I use post is simply to hide the "one-page-word-document" long URL in the browsers adress bar. I am very confused, is it okay to use POST or not? It is working fine both when I use GET or POST now... And it is already on a production server... Btw, in the linked question, I wasn't referring to make URL invisible (or hide it) I just wanted it too look better (which I have accomplished with mod_rewrite). • How to link different Servlet together?

  First of all, I did not use Spring MVC. :) :) Just want to get it out first. Now what I have is different JSP pages that making calls to different Servlets. All the pieces work great individually but I kind of need to link them together. If all of jsp pages make GET request then it would be easy, since I would just pass a type via the web address, and on my servlet side, I would just enumerated through all the parameter, determine which type is it, and delegate to the right servlet. But not all jsp pages make GET request, some make POST request via form. Let see example A.jsp $.getJSON('GenericServlet?type=A', ... • Edit of self referencing HABTM in cakephp works, sometimes

  I'm using a self referencing HABTM model with Participants. You sign up for an event and when you log in to your reservation/profile you see a list of other participants and you can choose to add yourself and others into various groups; share hotel room, share transportation from airport etc. What I've managed so far: 1) In my profile I see the list of all other participants with checkboxes. Great so far. 2) Adding another participant works fine. Next time I edit, the participant I added is shown as checked. 3) Removing another participant works fine too as long as you still have checked participants before you submit! Again, with words: There are 3 participants. I'm logged in as one of them, and I see the 2 other people on the participants list. I choose to check both of them. This works fine (always). Later I choose to remove one of them (by unchecking the checkbox and hitting submit). This also works fine (always). If I want to remove the last checkbox... nothing is updated (always!). What's curious is that I can add and remove any odd combination of participants and it will always work UNLESS I choose to remove every participants in one go (removing a one and only participant is a special case of "remove all checked participants"). As far as I know, HABTMs work by first deleting all relations, then re-saving them. I can see that in my tables when I remove, add, remove, add the same participant over and over again - the id on the HABTM table is always increasing. When I deselect all participants at once, however, the relations are not updated. The ids stay the same, so it's like the save never happened. This behaviour is so specific and peculiar, I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious here. • Rails Model inheritance in forms

  I'm doing a reporting system for my app. I created a model ReportKind for example, but as I can report a lot of stuff, I wanted to make different groups of report kinds. Since they share a lot of behavior, I'm trying to use inheritance. So I have the main model: model ReportKind << ActiveRecord::Base end and created for example: model UserReportKind << ReportKind end In my table report_kinds I've the type column, and until here its all working. My problem is in the forms/controllers. When I do a ReportKind.new, my form is build with the '*report_kind*' prefix. If a get a UserReportKind, even through a ReportKind.find, the form will build the 'user_report_kind' prefix. This mess everything in the controllers, since sometimes I'll have params[:report_kind], sometimes params[:user_report_kind], and so on for every other inheritance I made. Is there anyway to force it to aways use the 'report_kind' prefix? Also I had to force the attribute 'type' in the controller, because it didn't get the value direct from the form, is there a pretty way to do this? Routing was another problem, since it was trying to build routes based in the inherited models names. I overcome that by adding the other models in routes pointing to the same controller.

• How can I save an ASP.NET IFRAME from a custom entity's OnSave event, reliably?

  I have a custom ASP.NET solution deployed to the ISV directory of an MS Dynamics CRM 4.0 application. We have created a custom entity, whose data entry requires more dynamism than is possible through the form builder within CRM. To accomplish this, we have created an ASP.NET form surfaced through an IFRAME on the entity's main form. Here is how the saving functionality is currently laid out: There is an ASP.NET button control on the page that saves the entity when clicked. This button is hidden by CSS. The button click event is triggered from the CRM OnSave javascript event. The event fires and the entity is saved. Here are the issues: When the app pool is recycled, the first save (or few) may: not save be delayed (ie. the interface doesn't show an update, until the page has been refreshed after a few sec) Save and Close/New may not save For issue 1.1 and 2, what seems to be happening is that while the save event is fired for the custom ASP.NET page, the browser has moved on/refreshed the page, invalidating the request to the server. This results in the save not actually completing. Right now, this is mitigated with a kludge javascript delay loop for a few seconds after calling the button save event, inside the entity OnSave event. Is there any way to have the OnSave event wait for a callback from the IFRAME?

But I don't want it to connect to the database at all. How do I correctly stub/mock this method so that it doesn't call the database?

  I'm trying to sends mails in PHP. The code I used for sending a mail in CakePHP is given below. I get the message 'Simple Email Sent' in my web page but the mail is not delivered to my inbox. Am I missing something?   Hello, I am using Ctools Dependency to make a fieldset hideable. This is part of my code: $form['profile-status'] = array( '#type' => 'radios', '#title' => '', '#options' => array( 'new' => t('Create a new profile.'), 'select' => t('Use an existing profile.'), ), ); $form['select'] = array( '#type' => 'select', '#title' => t('Select a profile'), '#options' => $options, '#process' => array('ctools_dependent_process'), '#dependency' => array('radio:profile-status' => array('select')), ); $form['profile-properties'] = array( '#type' => 'fieldset', '#title' => t('View the profile'), '#process' => array('ctools_dependent_process'), '#dependency' => array('radio:profile-status' => array('select')), '#input' => true, ); In snippet above, There are two elements, one select and one fieldset. Both have #process and #dependency parameters and both point to one field for dependent value. Problem is elements like select or textfield can be hidden easily but it does not work for fieldset. In this support request page, CTools creator has mentioned that '#input' = true is a work around. As you see I added it to code, but it does not work as well. Do you have any suggestion?

• Excel 2010 VBA code is stuck when UserForm is shown

  I've created a UserForm as a progress indicator while a web query (using InternetExplorer object) runs in the background. The code gets triggered as shown below. The progress indicator form is called 'Progerss'. I also see that the range of cells in column A gets cleared which tells me that the vbModeless is doing what I want. But then, somewhere within the GetWebData() procedure, things get hung up. As soon as I manually destroy the progress indicator form, the GetWebData() routine finishes and I see the correct results. But if I leave the progress indicator visible, things just get stuck indefinitely. The code below shows what GetWebData() is doing. • Initialize child models at model creation

  I have a model Entree which belongs to a model Vin, which itself belongs to a model Producteur. On the form for Entree creation/edition, I want to allow the user to define the attributes for parent Vin and Producteur to create them, or retrieve them if they exist (retrieval based on user input). For now I do the following in Entree new and edit actions: @entree = Entree.new @entree.vin = Vin.new @entree.vin.producteur = Producteur.new and use fields_for helper in the form,and that works. But I intend to have much more dependencies with more models, so I want to keep it DRY. I defined a after_initialize callback in Vin model which does the producteur initialization: class Vin < ActiveRecord::Base after_initialize :vin_setup def vin_setup producteur = Producteur.new end end and remove the producteur.new from the controller. However, get an error on new action: undefined method `model_name' for NilClass:Class for the line in the form that says <%= fields_for @entree.vin.producteur do |producteur| %> I guess that means the after_initialize callback doesn't act as I expect it. Is there something I'm missing? Also, I get the same error if I define a after_initialize method in the Vin model instead of definiing a callback.

• Rails: Can't set or update tag_list using a text field with acts_as_taggable_on

  Hey everyone, I'm trying to add tagging to a rails photo gallery system I'm working on. It works from the back-end, but if I try to set or change it in the form view, it doesn't work. I added acts_as_taggable to the photo model and did the migrations. My gallery builder is programmed to add one tag automatically to each photo it creates. This works fine, just as if it were setting it for the console. However, I can't seem to set tags using a text_field in the photo form. Here's the code I added to my photo form: <p> <%= f.label :tag_list %><br /> <%= f.text_field :tag_list %> </p> Now, that's pretty trivial, and since :tag_list supports single-string comma-separated assignment (e.g. tag_list = "this, that, the other" #= ['this', 'that', 'the other']), I don't see why using a text field doesn't work. And to make even less sense, if a tag list has already been populated, the list will still show up in the text field when editing the photo. I just can't seem to commit any changes to the list. The documentation on their github page doesn't appear to give any information on how to set these values from the view. Any ideas? Oh, and I'm using the Rails 3 gem version.

  Hi there: I’ve been asked to look into how best to move forms into InfoPath and have a couple of basic questions about your experiences so I can get an insider’s lay of the land. Even some short, quick bullets would be really helpful -- thank you! Are you starting from scratch in InfoPath, or are you converting from paper or a different e-format? (Jetform, PDF, etc.) Are you trying to re-create the layout of a specific paper form, or is a regular online form OK? (trying to learn what the latest thinking is about this) Do you need only simple fill and submit capabilities, or do you need programming for calculations, validation, database lookup/entry/reporting, etc. as well? (don’t know how much harder it is to do all this vs. not) How long does each form take to finish? (I know it depends, but is there a rough guideline for planning purposes?) Who’s doing the actual work? (by title or function) What is especially straightforward or challenging about moving to InfoPath forms? (forewarned is forearmed!)
