• Bitfield With 3 States...?

  I'm trying to create an authorization scheme for my ASP.NET MVC application where an Enum is used to set permissions. For example: [Flags] enum Permissions { ReadAppointments = 1, WriteAppointments = 2 | ReadAppointments, ReadPatients = 4, WritePatients = 8 | ReadPatients, ReadInvoices = 16, WriteInvoices = 32 | ReadInvoices ... } But I don't really like that because it really doesn't make it clear that Write always includes Read. I then realized that a requirement would be that a user might have NO access to, for example, Appointments. Essentially, I'd want a "bitfield" with 3 states: none, readonly, full (read/write). I'd like to still use an enum bitfield since it's easy to store in a DB (as an int). Also it's very easy to see if a permission is set. Does anyone have any idea how this could be easily accomplished using an Enum... or am I going in the completely wrong direction?

  I am building a project in asp.net 4.0. My navigation will be database driven where i return a datatable from the db containing all the pages of my site, some will be top level while others will be children and sometimes children of children n-times. Im thinking of going down the nested repeater route and databinding from code behind, dynamically generating repeaters for children, but have read that this is not a best practice and should consider the listview control. Im wanting to build a list of links using an unordered list. I cannot find a solid example and was hoping for some pointers/ideas. Thanks Doo

  I want to use a datagrid in one of my modules (Symfony 1.3, Propel ORM). I have spent a while searching the web, but everything I found expects a direct connection to teh db (mySQL) or is otherwise unsuitable. I found the datagrid plugin (http://symfony.swisscenter.com/datagrid/exemples), but the documentation/examples are in French - and I'm not too keen on learning French just for the sake of using the plugin - besides, if all the users are French speakers, then it will be difficult to get support/help if/when I do hget stuck. So my questions are: Is anyone aware of a good (PHP) datagrid component that I can use with SF? Is anyone out there (English speaker), using the SF datagrid plugin?

  Hi I have a Start Date and End Date per record in a db. I need to check to see where the time period falls in a 2 year period broken into two lots of quarters then display what quarters each record falls into. Quarter 1 includes June 09, Jul 09, Aug 09 Quarter 2 includes Sept 09, Oct 09, Nov 09 Quarter 3 includes Dec 09, Jan 10, Feb 10 Quarter 4 includes Mar 10, Apr 10, May 10 Quaretr 5 includes Jun 10, Jul 10... e.g. 01/10/09 - 01/06/10 would fall into quarters 2, 3, 4 & 5 I am very new to .NET so any examples would be much appreciated.

• setting codeigniter mysql datetime column to time() always sets it to 0

  Hi guys. I'm using Codeigniter for a small project, and my model works correctly except for the dates. I have a column defined: created_at datetime not null and my model code includes in its array passed into db-insert: 'created_at' = time() This produces a datetime value of 0000-00-00 00:00:00. When I change it to: 'created_at' = "from_unixtime(" . time() . ")" it still produces the 0 datetime value. What am I doing wrong? How can I set this field to the given unix time? Also, I know mysql sets TIMESTAMP columns automatically for you - I'm not interested in that solution here. So far I can't find a complete example of this on the web.

  I have a weird situation. I have three entities, Company, Employee, Plan and Participation (in retirement plan). Company PK: Company ID Plan PK: Company ID, Plan ID Employee PK: Company ID, SSN, Employee ID Participation PK: Company ID, SSN, Plan ID The problem is in linking the employee to the participation. From a DB perspective, participation should have Employee ID in the PK (it's not even in table). But it doesn't. NHibernate won't let me map the "has many" because the link expects 3 columns (since Employee PK has 3 columns), but I'd only provide 2. Any ideas on how to do this?

The relationship show up, but if call User.relationships.friends it should run the friends() method, but its failing. Any ideas how i would do this? Thanks

• Easiest way to rename a model using Django/South?

  Hi everyone, I've been hunting for an answer to this on South's site, google, and SO, but couldn't find a simple way to do this. I want to rename a Django model using South. Say you have the following: class Foo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Foo) and you want to convert Foo to Bar, namely class Bar(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Bar) To keep it simple, I'm just trying to change the name from Foo to Bar, but ignore the 'foo' member in FooTwo for now. What's the easiest way to do this using South? a) I could probably do a data migration, but that seems pretty involved. b) Write a custom migration, e.g. db.rename_table('city_citystate', 'geo_citystate'), but I'm not sure how to fix the foreign key in this case. c) An easier way that you know?   I had a crazy thought about writing my own SQL Server driver to make it work something like non-blocking http client, so it won't be thread thirsty and could handle lots of db queries within one thread. I tried to look over google for some guidelines about implementing SQL Server client protocol, but found none really, where do those guys get information about it when they write own implementations for PHP or python? I need a really low level to be documented so I can implement all phases of working with a connection through sockets. And would be really nice to have a an example in c# language. :)

  I have a SQL Server DB that has a table of products, and another table which contains a list of the sku variants of each product if it has one. I want to export all the products and their SKU's into excel. At the moment, I have a helper SQL function which performs the subquery against a product_id and concatenates all the SKU's into a comma-delimited string, e.g: Product Code, Name, SKUs 111 P1 77, 22, 11 Is there an easier way to do this, so that each SKU is a row which the associated product code as well, i.e: Product Code, Name, SKUs 111 P1 77 111 P1 22 111 P1 11

  I have a table ('sales') in a MYSQL DB which should have rightfully have had a unique constraint enforced to prevent duplicates. To first remove the dupes and set the constraint is proving a bit tricky. Table structure (simplified): 'id (unique, autoinc)' product_id The goal is to enforce uniqueness for product_id. The de-duping policy I want to apply is to remove all duplicate records except the most recently created, eg: the highest id Or to put another way, I would like to delete duplicate records, excluding the ids matched by the following query: select id from sales s inner join (select product_id, max(id) as maxId from sales group by product_id having count(product_id) > 1) groupedByProdId on s.product_id and s.id = groupedByProdId.maxId I've struggled with this on two fronts - writing the query to select the correct records to delete and then also the constraint in MYSQL where a subselect FROM clause of a DELETE cannot reference the same table from which data is being removed.

  Although in Oracle DB its is allowed to parametrize the number of rows that the query can fetch by adding to the query: select ... from ... where ... and rownum <= @MaximumRecords I can't add similar condition to acuivalent query running in DB2: It is allowed to add: select ... from ... where ... fetch first 500 rows only (where there is fixed number of rows) but not: select ... from ... where ... fetch first :1 rows only (:1 == @MaximumRecords) Is someone aware of a solution/work-around to this problem?

  I read somewhere about giving enums default values like so: typedef enum { MarketNavigationTypeNone = 0, MarketNavigationTypeHeirachy = 1, MarketNavigationTypeMarket = 2 } MarketNavigationLevelType; .. but i can't remember the value of doing this. If i don't give them default values - and then someone later on reorders the enum - what are the risks? If i always use the enum name and don't even refer to them by their integer value, is there any risks? The only possible problem i can think of is if i'm initialising an enum from an int value from a DB - and the enum is reordered - then the app would break.

• How can I asynchronously monitor a file in Perl?

  I am wondering if it is possible, and if so how, one could create a perl script that constantly monitors a file/db, and then call a subroutine to perform text processing if the file is changed. I'm pretty sure this would be possible using sockets, but this needs to be used for a webchat application on a site running on a shared host, and I'm not so sure sockets would be allowed on it. The basic idea is: create a listener for a chat file/database when the file is updated with a new message, call a subroutine the called subroutine will send the new message back to the browser to be displayed Thanks in advance.

  Iam new to iphone development and have been tasked to development a fairly simple iphone application. It would basically show listings of information eg accommodations, restaurants...around 8-9 different types. Drilling on one would show the details of it. These are dynamically sourced from a db (through an xml feed) that powers an existing website. Also users should have ability to save favourites and also an interactive google map showing locations of these places. Just would like to know how long would such an iphone application take to develop and what would it costs. As iam new to iphone dev, i do not know how big the scope is, any complications to anticipate, scope creep issues, and how much to charge. Want to give a reasonable estimate so that i dont overcharge.

  Hi, I have few Gigabytes text file in format: {"user_ip":"x.x.x.x", "action_type":"xxx", "action_data":{"some_key":"some_value"...},...} each entry is one line. First I would like to easily find entries for given ip. This part is easy because I can use grep for example. However even for this I would like to find better solution because I would like to get response as fast as possible. Next part is more complicated because I would like to find entries from selected ip and of selected type and with particular value of some_key in action_data. Probably I would have to convert this file to SQL db (probably SQLite, because it will be desktop APP), but I would ask if there are exists better solutions?

  Hi, I use Asp.net, SQL 2008 and EF 4. I need display hierarchy data in a treeview control, Data is stored in a DB that use HierarchyId. Unfortunately, EF4 doesn't support HierarchyId. So in this case, I thought to have a stored procedure that deals with my hierarchy and return a result set back to EF that EF4 can turn into a collection of user-defined complex type that can then be bound directly to the treeview control. I imported a SPROC in EF 4 using Import Function and now I have a Complex DataType called: CategoryHierarchy_Result An image of my Model: Here some data from the Complex Type (in a GridView for example GridView1.DataSource = context.CategoryHierarchy(1);): My questions is: How to display my data from my Complex Type in a TreeView Control, showing a Tree structure that respect CategoryNodeString? • Best way to gather, then import data into drupal?

  I am building my first database driven website with Drupal and I have a few questions. I am currently populating a google docs excel spreadsheet with all of the data I want to eventually be able to query from the website (after it's imported). Is this the best way to start? If this is not the best way to start what would you recommend? My plan is to populate the spreadsheet then import it as a csv into the mysql db via the CCK Node. I've seen two ways to do this. http://drupal.org/node/133705 (importing data into CCK nodes) http://drupal.org/node/237574 (Inserting data using spreadsheet/csv instead of SQL insert statements) Basically my question(s) is what is the best way to gather, then import data into drupal?   I need to query mongodb with something like this: ("something" < X OR "something" = "nll") AND ("someother"X OR "someother"= "nll") AND z=$z AND s=1 I've tried a few things, but can't get it to work, this is what I've tried: find( array( '$or'=array(array("something"=array("$le",$X)),array("something"="nll")), '$or'=array(array("someother"=array("$ge",$X)),array("someother"="nll")) )) But that's getting me the OR overwritten, so I'm lost on that... After diggin a bit more, I assembled this code that seems to be what I need, but doesn't work either: find( array('$and'=array( array( '$or' = array( array("something"=array('$gte'=$X)),array("something"="nll"))), array('$or' = array( array("someother"=array('$lte'=$X)),array("someother"="nll")))),"Z"=$z, "s"="1"); But this doesn't work as it returns zero results and I know for sure that there are more than 2 items that match on the db. (100% certain)
