• Essbase 11.1.2 - AgtSvrConnections Essbase Configuration Setting

  AgtSvrConnections is a documented Essbase configuration setting used in conjunction with the AgentThreads and ServerThreads settings. Basically, when a user logs into Essbase, the AgentThreads connects to the ESSBASE process then the AgtSvrConnections will connect the ESSBASE process to the ESSSVR application process which then the ServerThreads are used for end user activities. In Essbase 11.1.2, the default value of the AgtSvrConnections setting was changed to 5. In previous Essbase releases, the AgtSvrConnections setting default value is 1. It is recommended that tuning the AgtSvrConnections settings be done incrementally by 1 or 2 maximum and based on the number of concurrent Set Active/Clear Active calls. In the Essbase DBA Guide and Technical Reference, the maximum setting recommended is to not exceed what is set for AgentThreads, however, we have found that most customers do not need to exceed a setting of 10. In general, it is ok to set AgtSvrConnections close to the AgentThreads setting, however, there have been customers that needed an AgentThread setting greater than 10 and we have found that the AgtSvrConnections setting higher than 5-10 could have a negative impact on Essbase due to too many TCP ports used unnecessarily. As with all Essbase.cfg settings, it is best to set values to what is needed based on process load and not arbitrarily set to high values. In order to monitor and tune the AgtSvrConnections setting, monitor the application log for logins and Set Active/Clear Active messages. If there are a lot of logins and Set Active/Clear Active messages happening in a short period of time making it appear that the login is taking longer, incrementally increase the AgtSvrConnections setting by 1 or 2, which can then help with login speed. The login performance tolerance is different from one customer environment to another since there are other factors that can impact this performance i.e. network latency. What is happening in Essbase when a user logs in: ESSBASE issues a Set Active to the ESSSVR process. Each application has its own ESSSVR process. Set Active then calls MultipleAsyncLogout and waits on the pipe connection. MultipleAsyncLogout goes back to ESSBASE. ESSBASE then needs to send the logout back to the ESSSVR process. When the AgtSvrConnections setting needs to be increased from the default of 5, it is because Essbase cannot find a connection since the previous connections are used by ESSBASE-ESSSVR. In this example, we may want to increase AgtSvrConnections from 5 to 7 to improve the login performance. Again, it is best to set Essbase settings to what is needed based on process load and not arbitrarily set to high values. In general, stress or performance testing environments using automated tools may need higher than normal settings. This is because automated processes run at high speeds for logging in and logging out. Typically, in a real life production environment, the settings are much closer to default values.

  This is my domain : http://yon.ir and it mainly should be shown in search results with the keyword "????? ????? ????" in country of Iran it is shown in google search results with rank 13 (with that keyword) which is logical but with IPs of other countries , it's not shown even in 10 first google result pages. (but the domain is indexed and when I search the whole domain title, it shows up my site at first) it's about 10 days with this manner and the domain is not new .(it was working with its previous owner before) So , what's the problem here?

• One method with many behaviours or many methods

  This question is quite general and not related to a specific language, but more to coding best practices. Recently, I've been developing a feature for my app that is requested in many cases with slightly different behaviours. This function send emails , but to different receivers, or with different texts according to the parameters. The method signature is something like public static sendMail (t_message message = null , t_user receiver = null , stream attachedPiece = null) And then there are many condition inside the method, like if(attachedPiece != null) { } I've made the choice to do it this way (with a single method) because it prevents me to rewrite the (nearly) same method 10 times, but I'm not sure that it's a good practice. What should I have done? Write 10 sendMail method with different parameters? Are there obvious pros and cons for these different ways of programming? Thanks a lot.

  So I'm thinking about making a small rpg, mainly to test out different design patterns I've been learning about. But the one question that I'm not too sure on how to approach is how to store an array of character moves in the best way possible. So let's say I have arrays of different sprites. This is how I'm thinking about implementing it: array attack = new array (10); array attack2 = new array(5); (loop) //blit some image attack.push(imageInstance); (end loop) Now every time I want the animation I call on attack or attack2; is there a better structure? The problem with this is let's say there are 100 different attacks, and a player can have up to 10 attacks equipped. So how do I tell which attack the user has; should I use a hash map?

• Installation won't finish

  I've just tried to install Ubuntu, but the installation progress bar hasn't progressed for a long time. When trying to install Ubuntu 10, the installation did finish. It said that Ubuntu needed to be restarted. After clicking OK, a list of errors popped up. I restarted the computer, and because i didn't remember that the boot loader is on flash, it didn't load. So now I'm installing ubuntu, but similar to 10 that couldn't restart it, I can't end the install; it says "installing the system". What should I do?

• Unable to fix broken packages with sudo apt-get install -f

  Here's my result, of sudo apt-get install -f. i have Ran it twice and got negative result. I believe there is an error at "error in Version string '0:3.6.1-dates for language English Translation data updates for all supported packages for: English" This same statement "error in Version string, caused me three days of attempting to download version 12.04. There is a bug report concerning the quoted text as well. Is there anyway to download the version without the language packs, why would I corrupt version 11.10? Also, when attempting to download Synaptic using sudo apt-get install synaptic, I get the same error message. Again I point out the initial download problems and the same error message receipt. • Working with packed dates in SSIS

  One of the challenges recently thrown my way was to read an EBCDIC flat file, decode packed dates, and insert the dates into a SQL table.  For those unfamiliar with packed data, it is a way to store data at the nibble level (half a byte), and was often used by mainframe programmers to conserve storage space.  In the case of my input file, the dates were 2 bytes long and  represented the number of days that have past since 01/01/1950.  My first thought was, in the words of Scooby, Hmmmmph?  But, I love a good challenge, so I dove in. Reading in the flat file was rather simple.  The only difference between reading an EBCDIC and an ASCII file is the Code Page option in the connection manager.  In my case, I needed to use Code Page 1140 for EBCDIC (I could have also used Code Page 37).       Once the code page is set correctly, SSIS can understand what it is reading and it will convert the output to the default code page, 1252.  However, packed data is either unreadable or produces non-alphabetic characters, as we can see in the preview window.   Column 1 is actually the packed date, columns 0 and 2 are the values in the rest of the file.  We are only interested in Column 1, which is a 2 byte field representing a packed date.  We know that 2 bytes of packed data can be stored in 1 byte of character data, so we are working with 4 packed digits in 2 character bytes.  If you are confused, stay tuned….this will make sense in a minute.   Right-click on your Flat File Source shape and select “Show Advanced Editor”. Here is where the magic begins. By changing the properties of the output columns, we can access the packed digits from each byte. By default, the Output Column data type is DT_STR. Since we want to look at the bytes individually and not the entire string, change the data type to DT_BYTES. Next, and most important, set UseBinaryFormat to TRUE. This will write the HEX VALUES of the output string instead of writing the character values.  Now we are getting somewhere! But really I just come up with arbitrary numbers. Sure I know Java well , but what does it mean to say "9 out of 10" . I think it is a very subjective question, that does not make sense overall. The problem is ,if I say 9 , If I am not able to answer any question , the interviewer might think , "this guy just said 9" . On the other hand If I said 6 , there is a good chance the interviewer might think "He rates himself this low...not good" How do you respond to such questions ?

• Cannot get Virtualbox to install properly on Ubuntu 12.04

  I cannot get Virtualbox to install properly on my 12.04. I first went with a manual install for the .deb from the old builds section of the Virtualbox page. That .deb opened up the Software Center and installed. Then I got the error coming up of VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system. Your 64-bit guest will fail to detect a 64-bit CPU and will not be able to boot. which I can only assume was due to my Ubuntu version being 32-bit (System Details - Overview - OC type: 32-bit, right?) So I followed these instructions to remove the .deb manually, restarted my laptop, and then FOUND the actual Virtualbox install in the Software Center and installed from that (assuming it would give me the correct version I need for my system) So after all that (and then some), I'm still getting the same error when I connect to my new job's project in Virtualbox. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to do here? This is the first time I've ever worked with Virtualbox, and no one at this company is using Ubuntu, so I'm on my own here.   I need an advice about SVN usage. I use Tortoise SVN on my client to deal with a project I am working on. The probjem is that I have two set of bugs top fix on the project. One to deploy till 5 days, and one to deploy till 10 days. I am going to solve all the bugs before the 5fth days but I do not want to deploy the last 5 before the release date (till 10 days). How can I work on two separate codes and the merge all the modification? Is it possible? I have to create a branch?

• How can I play a DVD-A (DVD-Audio) disc?

  I was able to play such a disc using VLC, but I am wondering if any music player supports the DVD-A format. UPDATE: I checked Rhythmbox and Banshee - I found no option like Play Disc or Open Disc, so I have no idea how I could even try to start playing a DVD-A disc. This has also nothing to do with missing plug-ins or codecs - the packages gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and ubuntu-restricted-extras were installed on my machine before. I guess I am stuck with VLC (Totem shows a DVD menu, but then hangs). However, I am missing the regular music player experience - ability to change order of tracks, adding tracks to a playlist, listening only to selected tracks, etc. I found Idea #22415: Please add full support for DVD-Audio and LPCM at Ubuntu Brainstorm.
