    During the startup I see machine executing this thing for about 30 seconds: udev: waiting for uevents to be processed Then I get a quick message which says something like: devfs: timeout (50 seconds) I can't see the whole thing because after that system starts up very fast including Xfce. Now we've got: open source packages on Ubuntu that don't quite work out of the box (details on request). the actual source behind them, with a build process that depends on the c-shell and other obsolescences, available from two competing locations. a commercial packaging from Oracle a commercial package from Univa What I am really wishing for is something with the basic capabilities of this that is simple to install and maintain. Heck, I'd take a front-end to hadoop that just queues and distributes simple shell-script-defined jobs.

    I installed xampp back around January 2009, and CF8 to test coldfusion on my macbook (note: I do not think that this issue is related to CF, but only xampp). I only ever used the apache part of xampp, and this was working for over a year. In the last couple of months at the most I've started getting the following error message (even for none CF sites, and non .cfm pages, the error occurs for .html files..): Access forbidden! You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server.     How can I set up Hudson CI so that I can send out emails from the server following a build failure? At the moment all I get is the following error: com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first One solution is to start Hudson as follows: java -Dmail.smtp.starttls.enable="true" -jar /usr/share/hudson/hudson.war However, I am already using the following to start Hudson: sudo /etc/init.d/hudson start I am thinking the solution is to somehow set the system property mail.smtp.starttls.enable in a property file somewhere, but I have no idea how to do that. Then I just download backup files and delete them. After deletion Munin's memory graph returns cache and buffers to the state that was before backup.   • verisign certificate into jboss server SSL

    Okay, I've tried using Xming and PuTTY, as well as Cygwin/X and Cygwin ssh, and it is not working. I've been able to run X applications locally, so it's not a client-side X problem.   • How does java permgen relate to code size

    I've been reading a lot about java memory management, garbage collecting et al and I'm trying to find the best settings for my limited memory (1.7g on a small ec2 instance) I'm wondering if there is a direct correlation between my code size and the permgen setting. According to sun: The permanent generation is special because it holds data needed by the virtual machine to describe objects that do not have an equivalence at the Java language level. For example objects describing classes and methods are stored in the permanent generation. To me this means that it's literally storing my class def'ns etc... Does this mean there is a direct correlation between my compiled code size and the permgen I should be setting? My whole app is about 40mb and i noticed we're using 256mb permgen. I'm thinking maybe we're using memory that could be better allocated to dynamic code like object instances etc...

  • Why Buy Hardrives with storage server from a vendor?

    Hi all, Im just browsing around at storage server's like the Dell MD100/ MD3000 and the Sun J4200 and although the storage server seems reasonable (approx $3000-$4000 AUD) the hard-drives that you buy to go along with them seems exorbitantly expensive. And I'm not sure why. Surely at most they are using good quality RAID level 7200rpm SATA hdd, but even then they are still charging almost 4 times the price. What is the advantage to buying these from them. I can see if one fails then the vendor replacing it is convenient. But at that price you could buy double the amount of hdd and just claim on warranty directly with the manufacturer. It would be much cheaper and you wouldn't be relying on someone else to fix your problems. Is this the case of "you don't get fired if you buy IBM?" mentality or is there some reason I'm not grasping here? Cheers Mark

  • Why does the Java VM process eat up more RAM then specified in -Xmx parameter?

    I have multiple servers running CentOS 5.4 and only one application running on Java VM. I've configured the Java VM with the following arguments: java -Xmx4500M -server -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:NewSize=1024m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote=true The machines I'm running the VM on has 6 GB RAM and no other applications running. After a while, the java process starts to hit the swap space really hard, I get this info out of the top command: 7658 root 25 0 11.7g 3.9g 4796 S 39.4 67.3 543:54.17 java On the other hand, if I connect via JConsole, it reports the Java VM has 2.6 GB used, 4.6 GB commited and 4.6 Gb max. java -version returns: java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode) Why is the Java VM expanding so much past it's allocated heap size? And where does that memory go, if it's not reported in JConsole?

    How do i find the throughput of a CPU and the Hardisk on an open solaris machine. Using MPstat or iostat. I'm having a hard time identifying the throughput if it is given at all in the commands output. Eg. in mpstat there is very little explanation as to what the columns mean http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/816-5166/mpstat-1m?l=en&a=view&q=syscl+mpstat I've been using the syscl column divided by time interval to find the throughput but to be honest i have no idea what a system call truelly is. I'm trying to to analyze a hardrive and CPU while writing a file to the hardisk and when at rest Thanks in advance. Jim

  • Excel - convert groupped data into PivotTable - is it possible?

    I have report in Excel format (Excel 2007) from Accountant department - and it has Groupping by Rows. + Client 1 300$ (group Bills by Client) |-- BIll 1 100$ |-- Bill 2 200$ So in Excel It looks like this in plain rows format (If I ungroup those rows): 1 Client1 300$ 2 Bill1 100$ 3 Bill2 200$ 1,2,3 - row numbers. So I cant Pivot these data to get Client-by-Bill-SUm report, because rows with Client Name are not Connected (that is necessary for Pivoting info by Client, Bills) with Bills rows after UnGroupping.

  • In OpenOffice Calc, how do I drag and drop cells to insert rather than replace their destination?

    I want to rearrange rows with the mouse in Calc. In Excel, I select the whole row, then drag and drop it while holding Shift. This causes the drag and drop cursor to turn into a bar rather than cells, and the cells are inserted at the bar's position. Is there a way to accomplish the same sort of thing in Calc without going around the houses inserting columns before the drag operation?
