• .net web service annoying issue

  Excuse the title, but it's best I just explain the problem. I have 2 projects in my solution A Class Library A Web Application, which consists of a web service (asmx). the web service has code sitting in the app_code folder, with a file [webservicename].cs Inside the webservice code behind class, I have a web method here is a sample example (its simplified): [WebMethod] public EnumTaskExportState ProcessTask() { var tm = new UploadTaskManager(); return tm.ProcessTask(); } Now at design time, in visual studio (2010 or 2008), when I right click on UploadTaskMananger, and then select "Go to definition". I get taken to AppData\Temp[some folder structure]...etc.... and it displays the public class definition. Instead I would like to have complete integration, so that I get taken directly to the actual class in the class library project. My guess is, this is happening because I am using the app_code route, and not a compiled file for the web service class. But I don't know any other way to do this. How can I fix this? Possibly do away with the need for the app_code directory?

• linked list sort function only loops once

I dont understand why it doesnt do the check again after the two temp pointers are incremented.

I then do a giant join. Everything works, but this guy is dog slow. I know this isn't much to go on, but knowing that I barely qualify as a tyro in the db world, I'm wondering if there is a better high level approach to this that I might try. (I'm guessing there is.) (I'm using MS Sql Server, so answers that are specific to that DB are fine.) (I'm just starting to look at "PIVOT" as a possible help, but I don't know anything about it yet, so if someone wants to comment about that, that might be helpful as well.)

• Unable to parse variable length string separated by delimiter

  Hi, I have a problem with parsing a string, which consists only of directory path. For ex. My input string is Abc\Program Files\sample\ My output should be Abc//Program Files//sample The script should work for input path of any length i.e., it can contain any no. of subdirectories. (For ex., abc\temp\sample\folder\joe) I have looked for help in many links but to no avail. Looks like FOR command extracts only one whole line or a string (when we use ‘token’ keyword in FOR syntax) but my problem is that I am not aware of the input path length and hence, the no. of tokens. My idea was to use \ as a delimiter and then extract each word before and after it (), and put the words to an output file along with // till we reach the end of the string. I tried implementing the following but it did not work: @echo off FOR /F "delims=\" %%x in (orig.txt) do ( IF NOT %%x == "" echo.%%x//output.txt ) The file orig.txt contains only one line i.e, Abc\Program Files\sample\ The output that I get contains only: Abc// The above output contains blank spaces as well after ‘Abc//’ My desired output should be: Abc//program Files//sample// Can anyone please help me with this?   Scenario: I am tracking several performance counters and have a CounterDescription[] correlate to DataSnapshot[]... where CounterDescription[n] describes the data loaded within DataSnapshot[n]. I want to expose an easy to use API within C# that will allow for the easy and efficient expansion of the arrays. For example CounterDescription[0] = Humidity; DataSnapshot[0] = .9; CounterDescription[1] = Temp; DataSnapshot[1] = 63; My upload object is defined like this: Note how my intent is to correlate many Datasnapshots with a dattime reference, and using the offset of the data to refer to its meaning. This was determined to be the most efficient way to store the data on the back-end, and has now reflected itself into the following structure: public class myDataObject { [DataMember] public SortedDictionary<DateTime, float[]> Pages { get; set; } /// <summary> /// An array that identifies what each position in the array is supposed to be /// </summary> [DataMember] public CounterDescription[] Counters { get; set; } } I will need to expand each of these arrays (float[] and CounterDescription[] ), but whatever data already exists must stay in that relative offset. Which .NET objects support this? I think Array[] , LinkedList<t>, and List<t> Are able to keep the data fixed in the right locations. What do you think?

• Peoplesoft queries - performance

  Hi, I'm facing a problem with PeopleSoft queries (using Oracle backend database): when a rather complex query involving multiple records is set off by a user, PS does an enforced join of security records, thus producing SQL like this: select .... from ps_job a, PS_EMPL_SRCQRY a1, ps_table2 b, ps_sec_rcd2 b1, ps_table3 c, ps_sec_rcd3 c1 where (...security joins a-a1, b-b1, c-c1...) and (...joins of a, b and c...) and a.setid_dept = 'XYZ'; (let's assume the last condition has a high selectivity and there is an index on the column) Obviously, due to the arrangement of the conditions, first a huge join is created, written to the temp segment, and when the last condition is finally applied, only a small subset is selected. A query formulated in this way is very likely to hit the preset timeout of the APPSRV, and even of the QRYSRV. When writing the query manually, I would rather move the most selective condition to the start, thus limiting the amount of the data being handled, to a considerable level. Any ideas on how to make PS behave like this? Actually, already rewriting "Oracle-styled" SQL to ANSI SQL seems to accelerate the queries - however, PS writes Oracle-style queries... • Image.Save(..) throws a GDI+ exception because the memory stream is closed.

  Hi folks, i've got some binary data which i want to save as an image. When i try to save the image, it throws an exception if the memory stream used to create the image, was closed before the save. The reason i do this is because i'm dynamically creating images and as such .. i need to use a memory stream. this is the code: [TestMethod] public void TestMethod1() { // Grab the binary data. byte[] data = File.ReadAllBytes("Chick.jpg"); // Read in the data but do not close, before using the stream. I cannot rely on the developers to remember to close the stream after the image is saved. In fact, the developer would have NO IDEA that the image was generated using a memory stream (because it happens in some other code, elsewhere). I'm really confused :(

• Why does a MFC application behaves mysteriously in encrypted hard drive environment.

  I'm working on a bug where I have an MFC application that does weird things when installed in when Sophos Safeguard hard drive encryption is installed. I'm sorry to be so vague here, but I'm writing this away from the office so this is all from my (poor) memory. Three things I've noticed: AfxGetResourceHandle() doesn't return a consistent resource handle. There is a single case where we try to load a string resource, and for some reason, the resource handle that we get from this method is different to all the other stings. Can't construct a CDocumentTemplate. There is a trace error which I cant seem to recall. Will edit and post when I'm in tomorrow. This behaviour appears to manifest in a Visual Studio 2005 version of the project, but not a Visual Studio 2008 version. Unfortunately moving to the 2008 version is not an option. The bug is not always reproducable if I step through with a debugger. Also, bringing up debug message boxes changes the behaviuor, which leads me to think that either there is some kind of race condition going on with the way MFC events are being handled, but I'm not sure how I'll ever know for sure, or even what I can do about it if I did. I think there's some underlying reason that the app is behaving weirdly, but what I've posted are more symptoms. Can anyone think of what I should check for? I've run Windows update on the test environment to ensure everything was up to date, and I've examined the process in procmon to see if the disk encryption stuff was getting in the way and conflicting with files - it didn't appear to be, but it does appear to be involved in some way as our app accesses Sophos related paths in the temp directory.

• How do I manage multiple development branches in GIT?

  I have 5 branches of one system - lets call them master, London, Birmingham, Manchester and demo. These differ in only a configuration file and each has its own set of graphics files. When I do some development, I create a temp branch from master, called after the feature, and work on that. When ready to merge I checkout master, and git merge feature to bring in my work. That appears to work just fine. Now I need to get my changes into the other Branches, without losing the differences between then that are there already. How can I do that? I have been having no end of problems with Birmingham geting London's graphics, and with conflicts within the configuration file. When the branch is finally correct, I push it up to a depot, and pull each Branch down to a linux box for final testing, From there the release into production is using rsync (set to ignore the .git repository itself). This phase works just fine also. I am the only developer at the moment, but I need to get the process solid before inviting assistance :)

• "This program might not have installed correctly" message in Windows 7 RC

  I have an installer that works perfectly under NT 5.x, Vista, and Windows 7. It contains the proper manifest for UAC on NT 6.x. But starting with Windows 7 RC, every time the setup program closes, Windows produces an erroneous "This program might not have installed correctly" message, even though the program did install correctly with no problems whatsoever. I never got these spurious messages in Vista or in Windows 7 beta. I sent a bug report to Microsoft, but have not heard back. I thought that this might just be a glitch in the Windows 7 RC, but the problem is still there on a fresh install of one of the very recent RTM-escrow builds that was leaked. Microsoft has no documentation whatsoever about this--not even a hint to what might possibly be triggering it. Even more frustrating is that I get this "This program might not have installed correctly" message even if I cancel the install on the very first are-you-sure-you-want-to-proceed screen before any of the installation code (creating a temp dir, extracting files, copying, registry, etc.) is ever run. Has anyone figured this one out?

• How to force client browser to download images from server rather using its cache

  Assume a simple aspx data entry page in which admin user can upload an image as well as some other data. They are stored in database and the next time admin visits that page to edit record, image data fetched and a preview generated and saved to disk (using GDI+) and the preview is shown in an image control. This procedure works fine for the first time however if the image changes (a new one uploaded) the next time the page is surfed it shows previously uploaded image. I debugged the application and everything works correct. The new image data is in database and new preview is stored in Temp location however the page shows previous one. If I refresh the page it shows the new image preview. I should mention that preview is always saved to disk with one name (id of each record as the name). I think that is because of IE and other browsers use client cache instead of loading images each time a page is surfed. I wonder if there is a way to force the client browser to refresh itself so the newly uploaded image is shown without user intervention. Thanks and appreciation in advance,

While I know I create temp tables in Oracle, I was hoping to keep things DRY. • Batch Inserts And Prepared Query Error

  Ok, so I need to populate a MS Access database table with results from a MySQL query. That's not hard at all. I've got the program written to where it copies a template .mdb file to a temp name and opens it via odbc. No problem so far. I've noticed that Access does not support batch inserting (VALUES (foo, bar), (second, query), (third query)). So that means I need to execute one query per row (there are potentially hundreds of thousands of rows). Initial performance tests show a rate of around 900 inserts/sec into Access. With our largest data sets, that could mean execution times of minutes (Which isn't the end of the world, but obviously the faster the better). So, I tried testing a prepared statement. But I keep getting an error (Warning: odbc_execute() [function.odbc-execute]: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]COUNT field incorrect , SQL state 07001 in SQLExecute in D:\....php on line 30). Here's the code I'm using (Line 30 is odbc_execute): $sql = 'INSERT INTO table ([field0], [field1], [field2], [field3], [field4], [field5]) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)'; $stmt = odbc_prepare($conn, $sql); for ($i = 200001; $i < 300001; $i++) { $a = array($i, "Field1 $", "Field2 $i", "Field3 $i", "Field4 $i", $i); odbc_execute($stmt, $a); } So my question is two fold. First, is there any idea on why I'm getting that error (I've checked, and the number in the array matches the field list which matches the number of parameter ? markers)? And second, should I even bother with this or just use the straight INSERT statements? Like I said, time isn't critical, but if it's possible, I'd like to get that time as low as possible (Then again, I may be limited by disk throughput, since 900 operations/sec is high already)... • Flattening out a lib directory using jarjar

  I'm trying to flatten out the lib directory of a project using jarjar, where it will produce a jar file with my main code and all my required libraries inside of it. I can get the project code into the jar, but I need to find a way to get every jar in the './lib/' directory extracted to the base directory of the final output jar. I don't want it flattened in the sense that I still want the package hiearchy preserved. I could manually list every jar file using zipfileset, but I was hoping to do it dynamically. I would also like to include any *.so files flattened into the base directory of the output jar so I can extract them into a temp dir easily without having to search through the jar. For example my lib directory... ./lib/library1.jar ./lib/library2.jar ./lib/foo/library3.jar ./lib/foo/bar.so would look like this when cracked open in the output jar file... /..library1_package_hierarchy../lib1.class /..library1_package_heirarchy../lib2.class ... The previous developer incorporated a head.inc file which loads up prototype, scriptaculous and then many of the pages are in a sub-template loading up jquery for functions like lightbox. • Best Approach for Checking and Inserting Records

  In one of our existing C programs which purpose is: Open connection to DB for record in all_record: if record contain certain data: if record is NOT in table A: // see #1 insert record information into table A and B // see #2 Close connection to DB select field from table where field=XXX 2 inserts This is typically done every X months to sync everything up or so I'm told. I've also been told that this process takes roughly a couple of days. There is (currently) at most 2.5million records (though not necessarily all 2.5m will be inserted). One of the table contains 10 fields and the other 5 fields. There isn't much to be done about iterating through the records since that part can't be changed at the moment. What I would like to do is speed up the part where I query MySQL. I'm not sure if I have left out any important details -- please let me know! I'm also no SQL expert so feel free to point out the obvious. I thought about: Putting all the inserts into a transaction (at the moment I'm not sure how important it is for the transaction to be all-or-none or if this affects performance) Using Insert X Where Not Exists Y LOAD DATA INFILE (but that would require I create a (possibly) large temp file) I read that (hopefully someone can confirm) I should drop indexes so they aren't re-calculated. mysql Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.22, for sun-solaris2.10 (sparc) using readline 4.3

  Hello, I have stored procedure in which I am trying to retrieve the last ticket completed by each user listed in a comma-delimited string of usernames. The user may not have a ticket associated with them, in this case I know that i just need to return null. The two tables that I am working with are defined as follows: User ---- UserName, FirstName, LastName Ticket ------ ID, CompletionDateTime, AssignedTo, AssignmentDate, StatusID TicketStatus ------------ ID, Comments I have created a stored procedure in which I am trying to return the last completed ticket for a comma-delimited list of usernames. Each record needs to include the comments associated with it. Currently, I'm trying the following: CREATE TABLE #Tickets ( [UserName] nvarchar(256), [FirstName] nvarchar(256), [LastName] nvarchar(256), [TicketID] int, [DateCompleted] datetime, [Comments] text ) -- This variable is actually passed into the procedure DECLARE @userList NVARCHAR(max) SET @userList='user1,user2,user2' -- Obtain the user information for each user INSERT INTO #Tickets ( [UserName], [FirstName], [LastName] ) SELECT u.[UserName], u.[FirstName], u.[LastName] FROM User u INNER JOIN dbo.ConvertCsvToTable(@userList) l ON u.UserName=l.item At this point, I have the username, first and last name for each user passed in. However, I do not know how to actually get the last ticket completed for each of these users. How do I do this? I believe I should be updating the temp table I have created.   I post this question has followup of This question, since the thread is not recieving more answers. I'm trying to understand if it is possible to pass as a parameter of a CLR stored procedure a large amount of data as "0x5352532F...". This is to avoid to send the data directly to the CLR stored procedure, instead of sending ti to a temporary DB field and from there passing it as varbinary(max) parmeter to the CLR stored procedure. I have a triple question: 1) is it possible, if yes how? Let's say i want to pass a pdf file to the CLR stored procedure (not the path, the full bits that make up the file).   I have this code to print out all directories and files. I tried to use recursive method call in for loop. With enhanced for loop, the code prints out all the directories and files correctly. But with regular for loop, the code does not work.   Here is my little function. It does not handle the results correctly. I do get all the rows that I want, but all the rows of the $results array contain the exact same values. So i make 2 arrays, a temporary array to hold the values after each fetch, and another array to hold all the temporary arrays. First i take the temp array and map its keys to the column names. Then i give it to bind_result, and call fetch() and use it like I would any other result value. • Shell halts while looping and 'transforming' values in dictionary (Python 2.7.5)

  I'm building a program that will sum digits in a given list in a recursive way. Say, if the source list has 10 elements, the second list will have 9, the third 8 and so on until the last list that will have only one element. This is done by adding the first element to the second, then the second to the third and so on. I'm stuck without feedback from the shell. It halts without throwing any errors, then in a couple of seconds the fan is spinning like crazy. I've read quite a few posts here and changed my approach, but I'm not sure that what have so far can produce the results I'm looking for.
