• View centric design with Django

  Hi! I'm relatively new to Django and I'm designing a website that primarily needs usability experience, speaking of optimized CSS, HTML5 and UI stuff. It's very easy to use Django for data/Model centric design. Just designing a couple of Python classes and ./manage.py syncdb - there's your Model. But I'm dealing with a significant amount of View centric challenges. (Different user classes, different tasks, different design challenges.) The official Django tutorial cursorily goes through using a "Template". Is there any Design centric guide for Django, or a set of Templates that are ready and useable? I don't want to start from scratch using JS, HTML5, Ajax and everything. From the Model layer perspective Django is very rapid and delivering a working base system. I wonder whether there's something like that for the Views.

• Overriding Doctrine_Record (sfDoctrineRecord) instance methods in Doctrine PHP Symfony

  I'd like to achieve the following effect using ASP.NET MVC and JQuery. I've got a drop down list displaying a list of Countries. I want to make it so that when I change the value of the country, a new drop down list appears below it, showing a list of companies whose country of origin is the particular selected company. The thing is that I do not want to rely too much on controller actions because I'm using it in a Template Helper which is a "headless" view. Can I bind it somehow?

• How do I set up derby in eclipse on Ubuntu?

  The question basically says it all. I'm trying setup up JavaDB on my virtualbox running Ubuntu 9.10. I have the package downloaded and installed through the package manager, which I believe is the right to go about it. I have also installed the Eclipse's Data Platform Tools. I've been following this tutorial here: http://www.vogella.de/articles/EclipseDataToolsPlatform/article.html. I'm stuck at the driver definition step. When I select the driver template from the Name/Type tab and the jar file in the Jar List tab, the OK button is never enabled. At the top of the New Driver Definition dialog it says 'Unable to locate Jar/zip in the file system as specified by the driver definition: derby.jar.' I assume this is the problem. Any help or links to a better tutorial would be much appreciated.

  I tried out Alex Kuhl's ajax script to upload images to Django 1.4. My first question is why I'm getting an empty page with firebug telling me I have two errors: fileuploader.js (line 4): syntax error <!DOCTYPE html> In my template html: qq is not defined var uploader = new qq.FileUploader( { Here is my entire html file for it: http://pastebin.com/NjbV5gMn This post suggests that either some script has 404'd or the src attribute is empty, which would cause the doctype error. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. As for why qq is not defined, I'm not sure what is wrong. Django can clearly find the fileuploader.js just fine from my static folder. My second question is why the ajax code uses {{ csrf_token }} instead of {% csrf_token %}. • String Utility Library for Code Generation

  CodeSmith has a nice StringUtils class that can be used to change database object names to singular, plural, camel case, pascal case, etc... Very useful for creating data access layers in their code generation tool. I'm trying to port some CodeSmith templates to the T4 template files used by Visual Studio, and I'm trying to find a similar library to do these things. There must be one somewhere in T4, since that's what is used to produce the LINQ to SQL classes, and it does a nice job of pluralization / singularization. Does anyone know where this library exists, or if a free library with similar functionality exists somewhere? Thanks!

• How to segue modal without losing tab bar controller

  Okay, so I want to be able to have a TabBar Controller with two Tabs (like the template in Xcode), but inside the Second tab, I want to have a button that takes the view to a Third View Controller. I want the Third View Controller to have a back button to the Second Tab, I don't want the Third View to retain the TabBar, but when I go back to the Second Tab I want the TabBar to return. So this is what I actually did, and it doesn't work. I put a button in 2nd view and 3rd view, and I control clicked and dragged to the respective views, and clicked modal. Everything works, except when I go back to the 2nd view I lose the tab bar. • Iphone sdk - please help , 1 view takes me 45 minutes to do :(

  Hey, I've been working on a Cook Book App but each view ( or recipie page) takes about 45 minutes to complete so as you can imagine its taking forever. The problem is that I have to manually: Set up a gradient image for the back ground (Somtimes I have to add a few image backgrounds to fit the view as I often use a scroll view, not sure how this could be automated?) Put an image behind the titles "Recipe name" , "Time needed" and an image to go behind the recipie instructions ( again I might need a few of these depending on how long the description is. Creating view controllers for main sections such as "Breakfast" and "Lunch" and then I need to manually create view controllers to go in these sections. Theres got to be a way to set up a template for this? Thanks for reading all of this.

  Hi, I am new to Subsonic, I have configured Subsonic3.0 T4 Template and created classes for my project. I have taken GridView and Object Datasource. Object datasource will connect to the one of the classes which is created from subsonic. I have set object datasource for g\fetch, Insert, Update and delete methods. Then i set the datasource of grid witht he object datasource. Grid view successfully showing me all the records. But at the time of Update, Insert or delete it throws an exception that "Can not ceate an instance of an interface". And also i am not able to dwbug in the code of the subsonic. May be because of partial classes. Can anyone please let me know what is happening at the backgrund? Or may be one can give me sample example which contains subsonic 3.0 and grid add, edit and delete so it will be really helpful for me.... Please... :) Thanks, George

• Auto-generate WebControls

  I want to generate .net code from a template so that it more rapid, so lazy developers (and I mean that in the nicest possible way!) don't have to write them in the IDE, compile them, etc... I know I can roll my own tool which generates the code using reflection (by reading in some text file, etc), but I just wondered if there was an easier than starting from scratch since this is what ASP.NET basically does already; so is there anyway to leverage this? E.g. to quote Peter A. Bromberg: Even an ASPX page with no code on it gets turned into an instance of the System.Web.UI.Page class. The page is parsed by the ASP.NET engine when it is first requested, and then its JIT compiled version is cached in the Temporary ASP.NET Files folder as long as the application is running and the .aspx page hasn't been changed. Ideally I want to auto-generate WebControls, but examples of anything closely related will do. C# Examples preferred also, but anything considered :)

  We forked an editor for upcoming release of our CMS. See: http://tinyurl.com/ylbtns2 The editor uses the css of the current template and loads an additional fix.css (inside the iframe) to override some rules: * { background-image: none !important; min-height: 0px !important; } #breadcrumbs, #content .sidebar, #footer, #header, #search_form { display: none; } #content { margin: 0px; width: 100%; } The problem: on first load the "min-height: 0px !important;" seems not to work - on second load the height of the editor iframe is 100px like it should be. Other rules like no background (fix.css) are working on first load and get overridden.

  Hi I've searched some other posts, but most of them assumed that people knew what they were doing in their unit testing, and frankly I don't. I see the idea behind unit testing, and I'm coding an silverlight application much in the blind right now, and I'd like to write some unit tests to kind of be sure I'm on the right path. I'd like to be able to use the SL4 vs 2010 silverlight unit test project template, to keep it simple and not use external tools. So what I need an answer for are questions like: what are the methods of unit testing? what are the differences between unit tests, and automated unit tests? How do I meaningfully unit test in silverlight? What should I be aware of while unit testing (in silverlight) ? Also should I implement some kind of IRepository pattern in my silverlight app to make unit testing easier?

  Hi, I have an app where we want users to be able to send us email/info. This would be a standard template which will open up on a button click within the app. I am struggling at the moment to find a legit way to do it. The problem is there are 2 things I need. 1) A way to let users send email to me 2) A way of knowing the person sending me mail is actually someone who has downloaded my app. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?   The team explorer for my project looks like this: mytfsserver\mycollection -- Project 1 solution -- Project 2 solution -- Project 3 solution When I right click on one of the solutions and do a "Show Project Portal", I see the following hierarchy: mycollection - WSS site Project 1 site with dashboard (appears to be a MOSS site) Project 2 site with dashboard (appears to be a MOSS site) Project 3 site with dashboard (appears to be a MOSS site) Are the dashboard sites MOSS sites? If I want to create a wiki, do I have to create a subsite with the wiki template under each of the Project sites? Can someone point me to a document/video that talks about the sites that area created by TFS by default?

• ACL suggestions needed for a small light framework developed

  Hello all, I've developed a small framework that was needed for the firm that I work. The problem is I've not made a full level framework, as developers are finding tough time to understand what is what, So I made a simple structure with app/controllers, app/models, app/views so that they can clearly separate the code and can get used to higher frameworks later. All other things like components/modules/helpers are just coded for now in a file called app_functions.php. The above framework is derived from cakePHP, not all, but just the framework uses a modified code of dispatcher of cake. The models all work with normal sqls, and views with pure html using a template engine. Now I'm trying to develop a small application over it, it cameout well, but ACL is something which many versions of it have not proved that satisfactory. Can anybody suggest a good ACL. I've checked phpGACL(too heavy), Zend_ACL likely won't be compatible, Cakephp's ACL which wont fit in the structure,as we are not using cake's SQLs, as there too many queries hitting the database for one page display.
