  Lets assume i am a game and i have a global int* that contains my health. A game trainers job is to modify this value to whatever in order to achieve god mode. I've looked up tutorials on game trainers to understand how they work, and the general idea is to use a memory scanner to try and find the address of a certain value. Then modify this address by injecting a dll or whatever. But i made a simple program with a global int* and its address changes every time i run the app, so i don't get how game trainers can hard code these addresses? Or is my example wrong? What am i missing?

• Better alternatives to know whether a control is valid in javascript?

  I want to know whether a control is valid or not in javascript. Is there a direct client side API available in Asp.Net which can tell me whether a control is valid or not? Eg. If I have 2 validators attached to a textbox, I need a function that can tell me whether the textbox is valid or not. If even 1 validator is not valid then it should return false. I can't seem to find a function that can give me this. Here is a little helper that I wrote which does the job but is inefficient: function isControlValid(control) { for (i = 0; i < Page_Validators.length; i++) { var validator = Page_Validators[i]; var controlId = validator.controltovalidate; if ($(control).attr('id') == controlId && validator.isvalid == false) { return false; } } return true; } Anybody has any better alternatives?

• Will Emacs --batch run in cron will hang when require user input?

  I have a job in crontab that requires emacs --batch but if the file is currently open it requests (s, p, q) to (steal, quit, etc...) which is fine if this file is being edited to not run the script but I want to make sure it kills the cron running script so it's not sitting in the background taking up memory. I have the output set to go to a log file so I can see this happening but no way to tell whether the script was terminated even though asked for user input. Does cron terminate these scripts and how to check the PID to make sure?

  Table_1 D_ID Integer Deposit_amt integer Table_2 Total_ID Total_amt integer Is it possible to write a select statement to find all the rows in Table_1 whose Deposit_amt sum to the Total_amt in Table_2. There are multiple rows in both tables. Say the first row in Table_2 has a Total_amt=100. I would want to know that in Table_1 the rows with D_ID 2, 6, 12 summed = 100, the rows D_ID 2, 3, 42 summed = 100, etc. Help appreciated. Let me know if I need to clarify. I am asking this question as someone as part of their job has a list of transactions and a list of totals, she needs to find the possible list of transactions that could have created the total. I agree this sounds dangerous as finding a combination of transactions that sums to a total does not guarantee that they created the total. I wasn't aware it is an np-complete problem.

• First html5 website, see any mistakes?

It's actually a pretty sloppy job since its a learning experience and all. I know some files (like favicons and some scripts) are useless/not linked, but seeing as this is a test I won't bother creating them. But do you see any mistakes I made? • PHP, PEAR, and oci8 configuration

  I'll make this quick. I installed Oracle 11g (with appropriate database, users, etc), Apache 2.4.6, and PHP 5.5.4 on a Fedora 19 system. I wanted to connect PHP to Oracle. What I really wanted to do was to download MDB2_Driver_oci8, which I thought would be easy, but before I can do such a thing, PHP needs to have that plug-in enabled, so here's what I did: Tried to install oci8 via the following: pecl install oci8 When that didn't exactly work the first few times, I figured out I, for some reason, needed "Development tools" - via yum groupinstall "Development Tools" Then I figured out later that PHP actually doesn't do oci8 - it's PHP Devel. So, I had to install that too, via yum install php-devel. And then, I finally got to install oci8. It asked for the Oracle Directory, and that was that. But it said the following: Configuration option 'php_ini' is not set to php.ini location You should add 'extensions=oci8.so' to php.ini First, I did a locate oci8.so - found it in /usr/lib64/php/modules/ Second, I added what it told me to, to the php.ini file. Third, I checked the usual php_info() test page - no mention of OCI8. Uh-oh. Fourth, running both php -i and php -m listed oci8 as one of the modules. Weird. In desperation, I went ahead and downloaded the MDB2_Driver_oci8. Maybe that will fix things. Nope. When I loaded my PHP Webpage, it returned the following: Error message: extension oci8 is not compiled into PHP As well as: MDB2 error: not found Strange. And then I decided to check the error logs: PHP Startup - unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib64/php/modules/oci8.so' - libclntsh.so.11.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 And now I'm stuck. I tried going into the php.ini, and found that the extension_dir was commented out. I put it back in, which only seemed to break stuff. Things of note: I followed this (link) guide on how to configure PHP and install oci8. ./configure --with-oci8 doesn't work. Fedora says no such directory. As both the webpage files and the actual server reside on the same PC, I did not install the Oracle Client files. The extension_dir is commented out by default in the php.ini. This is just one of my problems in a long line of problems concerning the replication of an already existing and working, but dying, setup. It seems whenever I want to solve a problem, I have to do X first. And by doing X, I uncover another problem, which I have to solve by doing Y, which has its own problems, etc, etc. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  Hi I'm having a bit of a problem with storing data in rails cache under production. What I currently have is this, though I have been trying to work this out for hours already: #production.rb config.cache_store = :mem_cache_store if defined?(PhusionPassenger) PhusionPassenger.on_event(:starting_worker_process) do |forked| if forked Rails.cache.instance_variable_get(:@data).reset end end end I am using a cron job to (try to) save remote data to the cache for display. It is logged as being written to the cache but reportedly null. If anyone could point me toward a decent current tutorial on the subject or offer guidance I'd be extremely grateful. This is really, really frustrating me. :(

Before I got my first job, I thought I knew C# pretty well, then I was thrown right into the deep end, and now I know I have a good command over the language. I would like to apply the same method to other languages, but unfortunately, I'm sort of stuck with C# at work. Ideally, something similar (but broader in scope) to Project Euler is ideal. Project Euler helped me learn a ton of C++/F#, some math, algorithms, handling bignums, etc. I'm looking for something like this.

• What exactly is GRASP's Controller about?

  What is the idea behind Grasp's Controller pattern? My current interpretation is that sometimes you want to achieve something that needs to use a couple of classes but none of those classes could or has access to the information needed to do it, so you create a new class that does the job, having references to all the needed classes(this is, could be the information expert). Is this a correct view of what Grasp's Controller is about? Generally when googling or SO'ing controller, I just get results about MVC's (and whatnot) which are topics that I don't understand about, so I'd like answers that don't assume I know ASP.NET's MVC or something :( Thanks

Both of these things seemed pretty ubiquitous across the corporate software world, however I recently visited a few companies that use PHP/Ruby and nearly all their devs had facial piercings/visible tattoos, etc. and their offices had no apparent dress code. This might sound funny, but it made me wonder, is there any correlation between specific technology and office culture?   I want to build a site where people can create their personal websites quickly. All their websites will be hosted on my single web application (i.e. there will be only one database which contains info of all the websites). Each person will have an account where he can customize his website (template, content etc.). They can access their website from .mysite.com or mysite.com/xyz. I should be able to add different modules frequently, which will immediately reflect in all the websites created through my site. Actually we are using a lot of C++ and PHP at our company and some of our developers are really hoping for a new and modern language to come by to help us getting more productive. I have been talking about what scala can do and the other coders seem to gain some interest in the language. The tough job is, how do you convince your boss to consider scala as a language for the company. I saw the presentation "Sneaking Scala into your company", but it deals with the situation that you are using Java at your company which we don't. How do you fight of the usual "that is just esoteric stuff" and "we can already do that in $LANGUAGE" arguments. • Language neutral plugin architectures

  I am looking at extending an existing application through the use of a plugin architecture. The application id written in Delphi, but I want to be able to implement various plugins in whatever language is best of the job. Currently we have skills in Delphi, C# and Java, and would like to be able to implement a plugin in whatever language is required. Does anyone know of an example system that can be used to implement this ? Search did not give me a hint, how can i behave with the following situation: I'd love to have 2 OSGI implementations of the same interface: one is regular, the other should work (be active/present/whatever) on the given time period (f.e for Christmas weeks :)) The main goal is to call the same interface without specifying any flags/properties/without manual switching of ranking. Application should somehow switch implementation for this special period, doing another/regular job before and after :) I'm a newbie, maybe i do not completely understand OSGI concept somewhere, sorry for that of give me a hint or link, sorry for my English.   My fried suggest I try to apply for a job at EMBL. I'm not bioinformatic in any way, but my friend (who by the way is a biologist working at EMBL) insists that I could adapt to the new environment as long as I have a interest in subject and am generally good at learning new things. But here is a catch. For the last 4 years I've been working with .Net and other Microsoft technologies which I enjoy even more lately. Now, from googling I couldn't find whether it will be possible for me to stick with .Net because it was all perl, java, linux and so on. Is there anybody who could prove whether there is at least minor opportunity for a .Net developer to at least partly develop with C#?

Using the Cronnix app I entered the following command 0,5 * * * * root curl http://localhost:8888/site/ > /dev/null The script runs fine when I visit http://localhost:8888/site/ in my browser. I've read some stuff about getting CI to run on Cron, using wget and various other options but none make a lot of sense. In another SO post I found the following command wget -O - -q -t 1 http://www.example.com/cron/run What is the "-O - -q -t 1" syntax exactly? Are there other options?

• Do you know any build systems with decent support for parallelization?

  Hi, I am looking for a build system (working on ms windows) that has good support for parallelization of tasks/targets (or whatever you call them). To be more specific - during build (that is initiated on MS Windows machine) I need to copy source files to a number of different machines (which are not necessarily running Windows) and start a remote job on each of them - and I really like to do that on all machines at once. Does anyone know a build system that's capable of executing such a task in parallel. From what I googled, the options currently available are: -j switch in make - but i don't know if nmake supports this -some custom nAnt tasks -msbuild has some form of support for parallelization - seems similiar to make (meaning you don't specify what to do in parallel, just specify that it would be nice to build things that way) -fake (f# make) is written in functional programming language which are known to have good parallelization support - but I'm not very skillful in functional programming area. Any other solutions I could explore?

• start /B doesn't start the task

  I'm currently launching an asynchronous job with PHP to perform some tests. To make it work, I found on SO some tips, like the use of popen and start: $commande = "testu.bat"; $pid = popen('start /B ' . $commande, 'r'); $status = pclose($pid); The testu.bat's folder is in my user PATH. This script performs some task, and to control it's execution, it should generates a log file, but I never get it. Whereas if I just remove the /B option, it works fine and I get my log file. Did I miss something about background execution? How can I catch the error informations when it is running in the background?

• Trouble with SVN and Filename 'changes'.

  I am programming in Visual Studio 2010, using TortiseSVN and VisualSVN as my client to connect to SVN repositories. I am having a bit of a frequent problem though with the whole SVN thing in general. One thing that keeps cropping up is that if I make changes to files - namely filenames, or move them to new folders, etc, I end up getting all kinds of conflicts with the repository and it just causes all sorts of strange errors. I understand the importance of version control and check-in/check-out access like this, but what do most of you do to deal with this kind of thing? I mean, I've tried doing the whole 'Remove from Subversion', change my file, then 'Add to Subversion' thing, and it just doesn't seem to do the job very well. This is especially frustrating when working on web projects where filenames can change very frequently as a project evolves and becomes multifaceted. Are there any standard ways to deal with this kind of thing, or is it just one of the flaws of SVN in general?

  My company has just migrated all the code for our website to 3 identical servers on an off-site location. Now it is our job to test them. However, the amount of websites/functionality that we have to test is exorbitant, and multiply that times 3! To check every single link and every single function is a daunting task. We are in the process of manually doing that right now. My question to you guys/girls is this... • Moving UITableView row to top of list when selected

  I am sure this is an easy thing to do. I am very new to objective C (picked up a job the boss was going to outsource) and could use all the help I can get. Just point me in the right direction here. Basically what I want to set up is this: I have a list of phone numbers that expands to as many rows as needed. I have no problem populating and the list works fine, but I would like for all of the recently selected items in the list to be more easily accessible at the top. So, whenever the user "didSelectRowAtIndexPath", I would like the row to move to the top. I just KNOW this is super simple... but I haven't found the solution yet. No hurry. I am just trying to figure things out on my own. Thanks in advance!
