  • Releasing an OLE IStorage file handle in C#

    - by Bernard Darnton
    I'm trying to embed a PDF file into a Word document using the OLE technique described here: http://blogs.msdn.com/brian_jones/archive/2009/07/21/embedding-any-file-type-like-pdf-in-an-open-xml-file.aspx I've tried to implement to C++ code provided in C# so that the whole project's in one place and am almost there except for one roadblock. When I try to feed the generated OLE object binary data into the Word document I get an IOException. IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Wherever\Whatever.pdf.bin' because it is being used by another process. There is a file handle open the .bin file and I don't know how to get rid of it. I don't know a huge amount about COM - I'm winging it here - and I don't know where the file handle is or how to release it. Here's what my C#-ised code looks like. What am I missing? public void ExportOleFile(string oleOutputFileName, string emfOutputFileName) { OLE32.IStorage storage; var result = OLE32.StgCreateStorageEx( oleOutputFileName, OLE32.STGM.STGM_READWRITE | OLE32.STGM.STGM_SHARE_EXCLUSIVE | OLE32.STGM.STGM_CREATE | OLE32.STGM.STGM_TRANSACTED, OLE32.STGFMT.STGFMT_DOCFILE, 0, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero, ref OLE32.IID_IStorage, out storage ); var CLSID_NULL = Guid.Empty; OLE32.IOleObject pOle; result = OLE32.OleCreateFromFile( ref CLSID_NULL, _inputFileName, ref OLE32.IID_IOleObject, OLE32.OLERENDER.OLERENDER_NONE, IntPtr.Zero, null, storage, out pOle ); result = OLE32.OleRun(pOle); IntPtr unknownFromOle = Marshal.GetIUnknownForObject(pOle); IntPtr unknownForDataObj; Marshal.QueryInterface(unknownFromOle, ref OLE32.IID_IDataObject, out unknownForDataObj); var pdo = Marshal.GetObjectForIUnknown(unknownForDataObj) as IDataObject; var fetc = new FORMATETC(); fetc.cfFormat = (short)OLE32.CLIPFORMAT.CF_ENHMETAFILE; fetc.dwAspect = DVASPECT.DVASPECT_CONTENT; fetc.lindex = -1; fetc.ptd = IntPtr.Zero; fetc.tymed = TYMED.TYMED_ENHMF; var stgm = new STGMEDIUM(); stgm.unionmember = IntPtr.Zero; stgm.tymed = TYMED.TYMED_ENHMF; pdo.GetData(ref fetc, out stgm); var hemf = GDI32.CopyEnhMetaFile(stgm.unionmember, emfOutputFileName); storage.Commit((int)OLE32.STGC.STGC_DEFAULT); pOle.Close(0); GDI32.DeleteEnhMetaFile(stgm.unionmember); GDI32.DeleteEnhMetaFile(hemf); }

  • How to Use an Environment Variable as an Environment Variable Name

    - by Synetech inc.
Hi, In my pursuit of a solution to another environment-variable/batch-file related problem, I have once again come across a problem I have visited before (but cannot for the life of me remember how, or even if I solved it). Say you have two BAT files (or one batch file and the command line). How can one pass an environment variable name to the other so that it can read the variable? The following example does not work: A.BAT: @call b.bat path B.BAT: @echo %%1% > A.BAT > %1 > B.BAT path > %1 It is easy enough to pass the environment variable name, but the callee cannot seem to use it. (I don’t remember if or how I dealt with this the last time it came up, but I suspect it required the less-than-ideal use of redirecting temporary BAT files and calling them and such.) Any ideas? Thanks.

  • How does Windows decide which icon format to display when showing an exe's icon in Windows Explorer?

    - by Malcolm
How does Windows decide which icon format to display when showing an exe's icon in Windows Explorer? Problem: When we look at our icon file and exe with embedded icon file in various Windows Explorer file views, the icon file is displayed in a higher quality mode than the icon displayed for our executable even though the icon in our executable contains the exact same icon. Our exe's icon has jaggier edges which leads me to believe that Windows Explorer may be trying to upsize a lower resolution icon rather than picking an icon appropriate for the actual display size. In a multi-format icon file, is there a specific order we should use for positioning each icon format? For example, we have an icon file with icons in the following formats: - 16x16 - 32x32 - 48x48 - 64x64 - 128x128 - 256x256 We are testing the appearance of our exe's icon using Windows Explorer under Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Anyone have an XSL to convert Boost.Test XML logs to a presentable format?

    - by Stuart Lange
I have some C++ projects running through cruisecontrol.net. As a part of the build process, we compile and run Boost.Test unit test suites. I have these configured to dump XML log files. While the format is similar to JUnit/NUnit, it's not quite the same (and lacks some information), so cruisecontrol.net is unable to pick them up. I am wondering if anyone has created (or knows of) an existing XSL transform that will convert Boost.Test results to JUnit/NUnit format, or alternatively, directly to a presentable (html) format. Thanks!

  • Java add leading zeros to a number....

    - by user69514
    I need to return a string in the form xxx-xxxx where xxx is a number and xxxx is another number, however when i have leading zeros they disappear. I'm trying number formatter, but it's not working. public String toString(){ NumberFormat nf3 = new DecimalFormat("#000"); NumberFormat nf4 = new DecimalFormat("#0000"); if( areaCode != 0) return nf3.format(areaCode) + "-" + nf3.format(exchangeCode) + "-" + nf4.format(number); else return exchangeCode + "-" + number; } } I figured it out: public String toString(){ NumberFormat nf3 = new DecimalFormat("000"); NumberFormat nf4 = new DecimalFormat("0000"); if( areaCode != 0) //myFormat.format(new Integer(someValue)); return nf3.format(new Integer(areaCode)) + "-" + nf3.format(new Integer(exchangeCode)) + "-" + nf4.format(new Integer(number)); else return nf3.format(new Integer(exchangeCode)) + "-" + nf4.format(new Integer(number)); }

  • Erlang: How to view output of io:format/2 calls in processes spawned on remote nodes.

    - by jkndrkn
Hello, I am working on a decentralized Erlang application. I am currently working on a single PC and creating multiple nodes by initializing erl with the -sname flag. When I spawn a process using spawn/4 on its home node, I can see output generated by calls io:format/2 within that process in its home erl instance. When I spawn a process remotely by using spawn/4 in combination with register_name, output of io:format/2 is sometimes redirected back to the erl instance where the remote spawn/4 call was made, and sometimes remains completely invisible. Similarly, when I use rpc:call/4, output of io:format/2 calls is redirected back to the erl instance where the `rpc:call/4' call is made. How do you get a process to emit debugging output back to its parent erl instance?

  • Can I make a folder writeable in Medium trust?

    - by harpo
My web app writes to several folders (logs, uploads, etc), and I've always set these permissions manually through my hosting provider. I'd like to create a setup script that performs this on new installations. Is this possible under Medium trust? I can't even call File.GetAccessControl, let alone File.SetAccessControl, but I don't need such a "big hammer", anyway. I just want to do what the ISP (in this case GoDaddy) is letting me do through a management console. I believe PHP is able to do this, and I'd be willing to consider a PHP page for this purpose if that's possible.

  • Force save files all browsers - not open in browser window

    - by Joshc
I'm after a simple solution to work in all browsers. For specific file types, or targeted links via a class: how can I get them to simply force download in all major browsers. I thought I found the perfect solution for apachce server - by adding this into the .htaccess. http://css-tricks.com/snippets/htaccess/force-files-to-download-not-open-in-browser/ AddType application/octet-stream .csv AddType application/octet-stream .xls AddType application/octet-stream .doc AddType application/octet-stream .avi AddType application/octet-stream .mpg AddType application/octet-stream .mov AddType application/octet-stream .pdf Seems to work in Firefox and Safari, but not chrome or IE (have not tested anything else) Can any one please help me with a solution on how to make links to force download the file, instead of opening in the browser, for ALL browsers. I can't seem to find a full browser proof solution. Is it not possible? Any links to tutorial or snippets would be awesome. My website if PHP based so can make it work with PHP if posible. Thanks

  • How do I take advantage of Android's "Clear Cache" button

    - by Jay Askren
In Android's settings, in the "Manage Applications" activity when clicking on an app, the data is broken down into Application, Data, and cache. There is also a button to clear the cache. My app caches audio files and I would like the user to be able to clear the cache using this button. How do I store them so they get lumped in with the cache and the user can clear them? I've tried storing files using both of the following techniques: newFile = File.createTempFile("mcb", ".mp3", context.getCacheDir()); newFile = new File(context.getCacheDir(), "mcb.mp3"); newFile.createNewFile(); In both cases, these files are listed as Data and not Cache.

  • connect to mssql from batch script

    - by JPro
Hi, I am supplying a batch script to create a DSN connection in the user computer before they start to use my application. I am using this in a .bat file. ODBCConf ConfigSysDSN "SQL Server" "DSN=CONNAME|SERVER=PCNAME\INSTANCENAME But I want to make sure they will be able to connect to the database, considering the fact that proper drivers may not be installed in their systems. So, is there any way to check the connection from the same batch file and inform the user if something unable to connect to the database? thanks.

  • allowing index access only with .htaccess

    - by YsoL8
Hello I have this in my .htaccess file, in the site root: Options -Indexes <directory ../.*> Deny from all </directory> <Files .htaccess> order allow, deny deny from all </Files> <Files index.php> Order allow, deny allow from all </Files> What I'm trying to achieve is to block folder and file access to anything that isn't called index.php, regardless of which directory is accessed. I have the folder part working perfectly and the deny from all rule is working as well - but my attempt to allow access to index.php is failing. Basically could someone tell me how to get it working?

  • serving files using django - is this a security vulnerability

    - by Tom Tom
I'm using the following code to serve uploaded files from a login secured view in a django app. Do you think that there is a security vulnerability in this code? I'm a bit concerned about that the user could place arbitrary strings in the url after the upload/ and this is directly mapped to the local filesystem. Actually I don't think that it is a vulnerability issue, since the access to the filesystem is restricted to the files in the folder defined with the UPLOAD_LOCATION setting. UPLOAD_LOCATION = is set to a not publicly available folder on the webserver url(r'^upload/(?P<file_url>[/,.,\s,_,\-,\w]+)', 'aeon_infrastructure.views.serve_upload_files', name='project_detail'), @login_required def serve_upload_files(request, file_url): import os.path import mimetypes mimetypes.init() try: file_path = settings.UPLOAD_LOCATION + '/' + file_url fsock = open(file_path,"r") file_name = os.path.basename(file_path) file_size = os.path.getsize(file_path) print "file size is: " + str(file_size) mime_type_guess = mimetypes.guess_type(file_name) if mime_type_guess is not None: response = HttpResponse(fsock, mimetype=mime_type_guess[0]) response['Content-Disposition'] = 'attachment; filename=' + file_name #response.write(file) except IOError: response = HttpResponseNotFound() return response

  • Included php file calling Javascript function

    - by Illes Peter
    Hi there! Here's the deal. I've got index.php which links to an internal JS file in it's header. index.php then includes another .php file, which outputs this: + add file. addFile() is a Javascript function defined in the external JS file. By doing this nothing happens, the included php does not "see" the JS function. Encapsulating the JS in the included PHP makes it all work. But I don't want to do it that way. Any ideas? EDIT: here's the source <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Archie</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/> <link rel="stylesheet" href="/screen.css" type="text/css" media="screen"/> <script src="/lib/js/archie.js" type="text/javascript"></script> </head> <body> ... ... //included php starts here <form action="/lib/course.php" method="post"> <fieldset> <div id="addFileLocation"></div> <a href="#" onClick="addFile()">+ add file</a> <input type="hidden" id="addFileCount" value="0"/> </fieldset> </form> //ends here ... ... </body> </html> and the js: <script type="text/javascript"> //Dynamically add form fields //add file browser function addFile() { var location = document.getElementById('addFileLocation'); var num = document.getElementById('addFileCount'); var newnum = (document.getElementById('addFileCount').value -1)+ 2; num.value = newnum; var newname = 'addFile_'+newnum; var newelement = document.createElement('input'); newelement.setAttribute('name',newname); newelement.setAttribute('type','file'); location.appendChild(newelement); } </script>

  • Why use MySQL over flatfiles?

    - by John
A friend and I were debating about whether he should use MySQL or a flatfile database for his website's backend. I told him to go with MySQL because it was structured, held records well, and was consistent. He on the other hand said that he would rather go for speed. Reading files is a lot quicker than connecting to MySQL and it made me wonder whether he was right. For example, why not just create a folder for each table, like so: users/ groups/ posts/, within the folders have the files named by ID (1, 2, 3) and then for the data use a format like so: username: John\npassword: e2fc714c4727ee9395f324cd2e7f331f\nemail: [email protected]? In other words, what are the advantages of MySQL over flatfiles?

  • Java IO (javase 6)- Help me understand the effects of my sample use of Streams and Writers...

    - by Daddy Warbox
BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter( new OutputStreamWriter( new BufferedOutputStream( new FileOutputStream("out.txt") ) ) ); So let me see if I understand this: A byte output stream is opened for file "out.txt". It is then fed to a buffered output stream to make file operations faster. The buffered stream is fed to an output stream writer to bridge from bytes to characters. Finally, this writer is fed to a buffered writer... which adds another layer of buffering? Hmm...

  • How to efficiently manage files on a filesystem in Java?

    - by Tuukka Mustonen
I am creating a few JAX-WS endpoints, for which I want to save the received and sent messages for later inspection. To do this, I am planning to save the messages (XML files) into filesystem, in some sensible hierarchy. There will be hundreds, even thousands of files per day. I also need to store metadata for each file. I am considering to put the metadata (just a couple of fields) into database table, but the XML file content itself into files in a filesystem in order not to bloat the database with content data (that is seldomly read). Is there some simple library that helps me in saving, loading, deleting etc. the files? It's not that tricky to implement it myself, but I wonder if there are existing solutions? Just a simple library that already provides easy access to filesystem (preferrably over different operating systems). Or do I even need that, should I just go with raw/custom Java?

  • VS2008: Disable asking whether to reload files changed outside the IDE

    - by SealedSun
Hi, I have a Visual Studio 2008 project where some code files are generated with each build (a parser, integrated via MSBuild aka editing the *.csproj file). VS does not know about the generated nature of these files (i.e. they are not the result of a "Custom Tool). So they "change" with every build, naturally. And VS2008 asks me after every build if I would like to reload those files: This file has been modified outside the source Do you want to reload it? That would be ok if I had one of those files opened and in front of me, but I get these modal dialogs even with none of the code files opened. So my question is: Is there a way to disable this dialog, per project, per solution or globally? Thanks!

  • Resizing uploaded files in django using PIL

    - by Nikunj
I am using PIL to resize an uploaded file using this method: def resize_uploaded_image(buf): imagefile = StringIO.StringIO(buf.read()) imageImage = Image.open(imagefile) (width, height) = imageImage.size (width, height) = scale_dimensions(width, height, longest_side=240) resizedImage = imageImage.resize((width, height)) return resizedImage I then use this method to get the resizedImage in my main view method: image = request.FILES['avatar'] resizedImage = resize_uploaded_image(image) content = django.core.files.File(resizedImage) acc = Account.objects.get(account=request.user) acc.avatar.save(image.name, content) However, this gives me the 'read' error. Trace: Exception Type: AttributeError at /myapp/editAvatar Exception Value: read Any idea how to fix this? I have been at it for hours! Thanks! Nikunj

Also, is there any other good option to put as default to make result more clear? Thank you.

  • Working with multiple input and output files in Python

    - by Morlock
I need to open multiple files (2 input and 2 output files), do complex manipulations on the lines from input files and then append results at the end of 2 output files. I am currently using the following approach: in_1 = open(input_1) in_2 = open(input_2) out_1 = open(output_1, "w") out_2 = open(output_2, "w") # Read one line from each 'in_' file # Do many operations on the DNA sequences included in the input files # Append one line to each 'out_' file in_1.close() in_2.close() out_1.close() out_2.close() The files are huge (each potentially approaching 1Go, that is why I am reading through these input files one at a time. I am guessing that this is not a very Pythonic way to do things. :) Would using the following form good? with open("file1") as f1: with open("file2") as f2: # etc. If yes, could I do it while avoiding the highly indented code that would result? Thanks for the insights!

  • SSIS process files from folder

    - by RT
Background: I've a folder that gets pumped with files continuously. My SSIS package needs to process the files and delete them. The SSIS package is scheduled to run once every minute. I'm picking up the files in ascending order of file creation time. I'm building an array of files and then processing-deleting them one at a time. Problem: If an instance of my package takes longer than one minute to run, the next instance of the SSIS package will pick up some of the files the previous instance has in its buffer. By the time the second instance of teh package gets around to processing a file, it may already have been deleted by the first instance, creating an exception condition. I was wondering whether there was a way to avoid the exception condition. Thanks.
