  • Visual Studio support for coding directly in *IL?

    For the longest time I've been curious to code in Intermediate Language just as an academic endeavour and to gain a better understanding of what's "happening under the hood". Does anybody provide Visual Studio support for *IL in the form of: project templates, IntelliSense integration, and those kind of RAD features? Edits: I don't mean restricted to out of the box support. For example, I can download Visual Studio extensions to support Python, COBOL, etc. Want the same for *IL. There is a stand-alone Intermediate Assembler tool.

  • Visual Studio Default Browser (MVC)

    Possible Duplicate: Visual Studio opens default browser instead of IE I want to change the default browser used by Visual Studio for debugging. Normally the route I'd take to do this is right clicking on an .aspx file and setting the default from the 'browse with' dialog. Unfortunately, MVC views don't have the browse with option. What other ways can you set the default browser? EDIT: FireFox is set to my default browser in Windows, but VS still opens up IE.

Highlighting CSS code results in: The key combination is bound to command (Comment Selection) which is not currently available. To comment CSS in Visual Studio 2010, is there a toolbar or keyboard shortcut to comment the highlighted text for you?

  • Difference in DLL when compiling on Build Server instead of Dev Machine.

    I have an application that loads user controls into .NET web application. When I compile and test the application locally on my dev machine it works on my machine. The project builds successfully using MSBuild on our build server. However when I deploy the dll generated by MSBuild on the build server I get the following error when the application loads the control: BC30456: 'CreateResourceBasedLiteralControl' is not a member of 'ASP.usercontrols_somecontrol_ascx'. I took a look and compared the dll generated on my machine and compared it(looked at the file size) with the one created by the build server and noticed a difference in the file size. This is confusing considering the code being built locally and on the build server is IDENTICAL. I manually compared each file by hand. So my question is: What is causing this error? What would be different between MSBuild's compilation of the code and what is going on in Visual Studio when compiling the code?

In Visual studio 2008, one gets the message press any key to continue and pressing a key closes the command prompt window. How do I set this behavior in 2010? Thanks a lot...

  • VisualAssert Testing in C++, Loading a test fixture.

    Good day, I am learning Testing in Visual Studio C++ and I have several tutorials which I have followed. I am trying to load a test fixture. I have tried to put the test .cpp file in many different places but it will still not pick up on it when I click on "Run Tests" or "Run Tests without debugging" In the tutorials I found, they seemed to load into the Test Explorer automatically, but in mine is an icon with a X + (PROJECTNAME).EXE and when I hoover over it I get the process exited without registering with the agent... this is due to the model not containing any test fixtures... How can I load my tests into the Test Explorer...or register them with my project... I've tried right click and "Add Fixture...".... but that just starts a new test file and I have the same problem. Anybody know how I solve this issue?

  • Avoiding circular project/assembly references in Visual Studio with statically typed dependency conf

    First, I want to say that I am not interested in debating about any non-helpful "answers" to my question, with suggestions to putting everything in one assembly, i.e. there is no need for anyone to provide webpages such as the page titled with "Separate Assemblies != Loose Coupling". Now, my question is if it somehow (maybe with some Visual Studio configuration to allow for circular project dependencies?) is possible to use one project/assembly (I am here calling it the "ServiceLocator" assembly) for retrieving concrete implementation classes, (e.g. with StructureMap) which can be referred to from other projects, while it of course is also necessary for the the ServiceLocator itself to refer to other projects with the interfaces and the implementations ? Visual Studio project example, illustrating the kind of dependency structure I am talking about: http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/8838/testingdependencyinject.png Please note in the above picture, the problem is how to let the classes in "ApplicationLayerServiceImplementations" retrieve and instantiate classes that implement the interfaces in "DomainLayerServiceInterfaces". The goal is here to not refer directly to the classes in "DomainLayerServiceImplementations", but rather to try using the project "ServiceLocator" to retrieve such classes, but then the circular dependency problem occurrs...     Is it possible to use a platform builder 5.0 SDK in visual studio 2010 for a C++ project. I want to compile code for a specific ARM WinCE 5.0 environment and I have VS2010 at the moment. The Microsoft website recommends visual studio 2005. I'm currently downloading the VS2005 evaluation but I'm also a bit worried about installing this on a machine that already has vs2010 installed. Any advise would be greatly received.

  • Boost 1.4.0, "assert" identifier not found

    I'm trying to compile an old project that was originally written for linux on windows. It uses boost 1.4.0, and whenever I compile it throws error C3961: "assert" : identifier not found. I'm using Visual Studio 208 SP1 When I drill down into assert.hpp it includes this: # include <assert.h> // .h to support old libraries w/o <cassert> - effect is the same # define BOOST_ASSERT(expr) assert(expr) BOOST_ASSERT is actually what's failing, and VS doesn't seem to recognize assert() even though assert.h is obviously included. As far as I can tell, all the fails are in files that are part of boost, not my own code, but it throws about 1200 of them. Any ideas how to fix this?

    I was looking to install the latest Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio. However, this version doesn't work with Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. They say that the latest version of Azure Tools & SDK will only work with VS 2008 and VS 2010 RC and that for VS 2010 Beta 2 I still need to install November release. I know that VS 2010 is going to be released on April 12th this year but does anyone knows when VS 2010 RC is coming out? EDIT: The full RTM version of Visual Studio 2010 is released as of April 14, 2010.

    This is a minor issue, but one I find myself running into: When I am using jQuery in Visual Studio 2010, I find myself frequently typing: $(#S using Intellisense to find the SomeID object ID: $(#SomeID).click( function() { etc.. }) then going back and adding quotes: $('#SomeID').click( function() { etc.. }) I find it annoying that if I add the quote first, Visual Studio goes into string mode and I lose Intellisense for finding the object's ID or class. Am I doing it wrong?

    Oh, I am stuck again on this quiet annoying problem. I am trying to do a little automated browsing using the axWebBrowser component and it worked before. Now all of a sudden I get the following message when I try to browse to a page. Navigation to the webpage was canceled What you can try: Refresh the page. I totally disabled my firewall, ran VS2008 in Administrator mode, I even installed IE8 all to no avail. By the way IE8 doesn't work either. I don't know if the problem is related but all I get when I put a URL into IE8 is this message. Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage I don't so much mind that, I just really need to get my visual studio axWebBrowser working.

  • Make Visual Studios "Add Service Reference" Feature use an existing Class

    When I add a service reference to my Visual Studio 2010 C# project, a new class for one of the types defined in the WSDL will be generated. A de-facto equivalent definition of that type already exists in our solution in a different assembly. When adding the SoapTypeAttribute to the existing class and replacing the references to the generated class in the generated code, everything runs perfectly and as expected. How would I tell Visual Studio to use the existing class in the generated code?
