• Video editing language

  Hi folks, My next project will be all about language tools, parsing and such. Because of that reason I've decided to write a simple language which can be used for video editing. So instead of those desktop applications (Sony vegas, Adobe Premiere, ..) it's basically a language where you define the effects and all and it will generate a video for you. Since I've got no experience in this kind of business I need some help. The goal of the project is to create a simple language which is able to do some basic things (such as text fading in, etc). I am looking for articles/projects/blogs/whatever related with this which could help me writing this language. • Getting 404 when attempting to POST file to Google Cloud Storage from service account

  I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the proper syntax & formatting for a service account to send a POST Object to bucket request? I'm attempting it programmatically using the HttpComponents library. I manage to get a token from my GoogleCredential, but every time I construct the POST request, I get: HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?><Error><Code>AccessDenied</Code><Message>Access denied.</Message><Detailsbucket-name</Details></Error The Google documentation that describes the request methods, mentions posting using html forms, but I'm hoping that wasn't suggesting the ONLY way to get the job done. I know that HttpComponents has a way to explicitly create form data by using UrlEncodedFormEntity, but it doesn't support multipart data. Which is why I went with using the MultipartEntity class.   I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong. It seems like it should be simple because I can't find anyone else with this issue but I can't figure out to send basic data via javascript(jQuery) to PHP and decode it. For the sake of simplicity, this is what I have: JAVASCRIPT var json_data = { "name" : "john doe" }; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "../bin/process.php", dataType: "json", data: json_data }); and my PHP FILE $arr = json_decode("json_data", true); $fp = fopen('data.txt', "w"); fwrite($fp, $arr['name']); fclose($fp); The file I'm writing ends up with nothing in it. If I do an: fwrite($fp, 'test'); I get a file with the word test in it but no matter what I do I don't get the json data I sent. Can someone please share a thorough example of A to Z. • Wanting a type of grid for a pixel editor

  Hi, I am currently trying to develop a basic pixel editor application to build up my programming experience with Java. I am designing it so the user has several colour options on, they click on an option and then they can drag over the cells in the grid and they change colour (like a typical image editor, but with a sort of snap on to each grid cell) Any idea of what Java component, if any, is able to implement this type of grid in Java? I had thought of each cell being a JButton, but this seemed terribly inefficient and I don't think it would be possible to change the colour of each cell(button) with out individually clicking on each one. Any help appreciated.

  Thanks to Col. Shrapnel I am using a VERY basic PHP script to send emails. The form is located here. I want to edit the code to display a javascript alert, instead of a redirect. I don't have much PHP knowledge, so how would I edit this code to return a alert instead of a redirect?

  I'm trying to make a one to one relationship in a MySQL DB. I'm using the InnoDB engine and the basic table looks like this: CREATE TABLE `foo` ( `fooID` INT(11) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, `name` TEXT NOT NULL ) CREATE TABLE `bar` ( `barName` VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, `fooID` INT(11) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, CONSTRAINT `contact` FOREIGN KEY (`fooID`) REFERENCES `foo`(`fooID`) ) Now once I have set up these I alter the foo table so that the fooID also becomes a foreign key to the fooID in bar. The only issue I am facing with this is that there will be a integrity issue when I try to insert into either. I would like some help, thanks.

  I need to control the style of a basic xy plot in R, and so have build the plotting area like this: frame() plot.window(xlim=c(0,1), ylim=c(-.6, .8)) axis(1, at=c(0, .2, .4, .6, .8, 1.0), lwd=2) axis(2, at=c(-.6, -.4, -.2, 0, .2, .4, .6, .8), lwd=2) I cannot, however, figure out how to create a physical frame around this plot (with lwd = 2). Is it possible (necessary?) to use line() or polygon()? Or is there something more built-in for this? I'm also interested in how to change the frame and axis weights for a plot created using the plot() function.

  Hi How to design a business object? I have a library which returns me an Object which have ten lists of other different objects. I need to store it into database all. List of objects are often like: class Item { private int id; private String name; private double point; } But the name is often the same. Like basic title of the product or code. Containing from 3 characters up to 70characters. Should I make conversion for every Object to: (or something similar) class ConvertedItem { private int id; private int code; private double point; } And have a separated table of codes ( I guess around 60). Or do not bother with duplicated stuff? It's not mission critical app. What would you do in my case? thanks in advance

• Are you using Virtual Machine as your primary development enviroment?

  Recently I have purchased a notebook that cames with Windows Home Basic (that don't have with ASP.Net/IIS. I thought in upgrade the Windows version to one with ASP.Net/IIS, but I thought in another possibility: I have an Hard Disk Case with a 360Gb HD. I thought in create a virtual machine with Windows Ultimate (installing too ASP.Net, IIS and Visual Studio 2008) in this HD Case, then I can access my "development enviroment" in any computer that I will work on (my desktop machine and my notebook). But I was worried about the performance. I don't have experience working in Virtual Machines (I use it just to quick compatibility tests)... Are you using Virtual Machine as your primary development enviroment? What your finds? ==================== Thanks for your answers! It really did help me! I would like to know too about portability ie.: the virtual machine that I created in my laptop will work in the desktop? I will need re-activate Windows?

  My Rails app has a normal ActiveRecord "Account" model stored in the database. The model will store the URL to a remote XML file which defines some other objects. For example, the Account has_many :galleries but the Gallery model is simply defined by nodes in the XML document. So how do I get /accounts/1/galleries to show the galleries from that account's XML? How do I setup this relationship? I know how to do basic non-AR models, but I'm not sure how to define the association or if I need to create a Gallery model at all.

• Good open source analytics/stats software in PHP?

  The url shortening service I'm building needs to display some basic click stats to users: # of clicks, conversions, referring domains, and country (filterable by a date range). I'll possibly want more advanced stats in the future. Is there existing open source software that will allow me to pass events to it and then easily display a bar or line graph of that event (for example, a line graph of "conversions" between two specified dates). It seems like something like this should exist and would be much easier then building the whole thing from scratch. I know there are graphing scripts, but that still requires me to format the data (usually as an xml file) and then pass it to the graph. I'm looking for something a bit more complete, which I can just feed the events and then it does everything else.

Of course, I'm using a basic MVC design and my question concerns the Model layer. For my application, the Model represents data fetched on the Internet with a XML-RPC API. I'm planning to use Core Data to represent a locally fetched version. How should the data be loaded initially? I'm reading the Cocoa Design Pattern book, and they talk about a Model-Controller that is centric to the Model. How would that be done? Thanks!

• Possibility of language data type not mapped to shipped .NET Framework?

  Does anybody know of a managed programming language implemented on .NET that contains a specialized data type that is not mapped through to the Common Type System/FCL/BCL or one that does not have a shipped .NET equivalent (e.g. shipped standard types like System.String, System.Int32)? This question would likely come from the perspective of someone porting a compiler (although I'm not doing that). Is it as simple as the language creating a new data type outside the BCL/FCL for its specialized type? If so does this hinder interoperability between programming languages that are otherwise accustomed to mapping all their built-in data types to what's in the BCL/FCL, like Visual Basic and C#? I can imagine this situation might come about if an obscure language compiler of some kind is ported to .NET for which there is no direct mapping of one of its implicit data types to the shipped Framework. How is this situation supported or allowed in general? What would be the expectation of the compiler and the Common Language Runtime?

  Has anyone had any success attaching a rich:toggleControl component to a radio button component (h:selectOneRadio) or alternatively any of its children select items (in this case s:enumItem). Basic code example: <h:selectOneRadio value="#{backingValue}"> <s:enumItem enumValue="VAL_1" itemLabel="Value One" /> <s:enumItem enumValue="VAL_2" itemLabel="Value Two" /> <s:convertEnum /> </h:selectOneRadio> The ideal thing would be to attach the toggle control to the enumItems so I could have it switch to a particular state. However at this point I'd be happy if the toggle control can just be attached to the selectOneRadio. I've tried the toggle control as a child of the selectOneRadio and enumItems; neither works. I've also tried wrapping the toggleControl around the selectOneRadio, the toggle control works in this case but the radio buttons don't :(

• How can I maximally partition a set?

  I'm trying to solve one of the Project Euler problems. As a consequence, I need an algorithm that will help me find all possible partitions of a set, in any order. For instance, given the set 2 3 3 5: 2 | 3 3 5 2 | 3 | 3 5 2 | 3 3 | 5 2 | 3 | 3 | 5 2 5 | 3 3 and so on. Pretty much every possible combination of the members of the set. I've searched the net of course, but haven't found much that's directly useful to me, since I speak programmer-ese not advanced-math-ese. Can anyone help me out with this? I can read pretty much any programming language, from BASIC to Haskell, so post in whatever language you wish.

• Securing files on IPhone

  Hi Is there a way to decompile the binary from an IPhone app. I jailbroke my IPhone and was surprised to find other app's dbs wide open to be copied. So I exported my most important table and hardcoded it into code. Instead of loading table into array from a db I just generated code to fill the array and kept only the most basic DB info so relationships still work. Took a while but now works fine. I was just wondering am I safe, could someone decompile the binary for the app easily and extract the data. In Java its easy to decompile *.class files though thats bytecode where I presume iphone apps are more low level. I know IPhone sdk 4 can mark files as secure. Anyone know can this be overridden by jailbreaks or is this an unix lock?

• MySQL Password Not Working

  Hi, When I enter my password into MySQL Command Line Client, it rejects my password, gives 1 beep and closes the window. Can anyone provide me with a basic troubleshooting list of steps (from simple to progressively more technical) to regain entry into MySQL once and for all. Also, can anyone tell me what can cause my password to suddenly be rejected? I am also running XAMPP and the MySQL service is both installed and running. Thanks in advance. I remember when I first got this problem some months ago, if I recall correctly, I solved it by starting the MySQL service from Windows XP's Administrative Tool (something I did stopped the MySQL service and to this day I don't know what it was). Now the problem has started back again but this time, when I checked Services, the MySQL service was already 'started'. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks

  I am sanitizing an input field and manually getting and setting the caret position in the process. With some abstraction, here's the basic idea: <input type="text" onkeyup"check(this)"> And javascript... function check(element) { var charPosition = getCaretPosition(element); $(element).val( sanitize( $(element).val() ) ); setCaretPosition(element, charPosition); } function sanitize(s) { return s.replace(/[^a-zA-Z0-9\s]/g, ''); } This is working fine except when a character does actually get sanitized, my caret position is off by one. Basically I'd like a way to see if the sanitize function has actually replaced a character (and at what index) so then I can adjust the charPosition if necessary. Any ideas?

• C# implementation of PushbackInputStream

  I need a C# implementation of Java's PushbackInputStream. I have made my own very basic one, but I wondered if there was a well tested and decently performing version already available somewhere. As it happens I always push back the same bytes I read so really it just needs to be able to reposition backwards, buffering up to a number of bytes I specify. (like Java's BufferedInputStream with the mark and reset methods). Update: I should add that I can't simply reposition the stream as CanSeek may be false. (e.g. when the input steam is a NetworkStream)

  Hi, I created a google app engine project. I just successfully mapped it to a new domain. The name of my project is "grape". So by default, it is published at http://www.grape.appspot.com. I mapped it to http://www.grape.com, which is terrific. Now I'd like to create a new app engine project, and have it mapped to: http://api.grape.com how do I go about doing this? I think it is possible, I'm just not sure where I would do this mapping? Since I own grape.com, I am hoping I can map a new project to t. • Can jQuery dynamically change a "username" field based on a "name" field?

  Hi all, basically I have two input fields, "name" and "username". The idea is that the "username" field will change depending on what is entered into the "name" field - dynamically. I also need the username field to be in lowercase only and to change spaces into dashes. I was thinking using onkeydown but I couldn't get it to do anything. • Creating Visual Studio Templates

  I'm looking to create a Visual Studio 2008 template that will create a basic project and based on remove certain files/folders based on options the user enters. Right now, I have followed some tutorials online which have let me create the form to query the user and pass the data into an IWizard class, but I don't know what to do from there. The tutorials provide a sample to do some simple substitution: code: Form1 form = new Form1(); DialogResult dlg = form.ShowDialog(); if (dlg == DialogResult.OK) { foreach (KeyValuePair<string, string> pair in form.Parameters) { if (!replacementsDictionary.ContainsKey(pair.Key)) replacementsDictionary.Add(pair.Key, pair.Value); else replacementsDictionary[pair.Key] = pair.Value; } } form.Close(); but I'm looking to selectively include files based on the user settings, and if possible, selectively include code sections in a file based on settings. Is there a clever way to do this, or will I manually have to delete project files in the IWizard:ProjectFinishedGenerating()?
