• ldap-authentication without sambaSamAccount on linux smb/cifs server (e.g. samba)

  i'm currently running samba-3.5.6 on a debian/wheezy host to act as the fileserver for our department's w32-clients. authentication is done via OpenLDAP, where each user-dn has an objectclass:sambaSamAccount that holds the smb-credentials and an objectclass:shadowAccount/posixAccount for "ordinary" authentication (e.g. pam, apache,...) now we would like to dump our department's user-db, and instead use authenticate against the user-db of our upstream-organisation. these user-accounts are managed in a novell-edirectory, which i can already use to authenticate using pam (e.g. for ssh-logins; on another host). our upstream organisation provides smb/cifs based access (via some novell service) to some directories, which i can access from my linux client via smbclient. what i currently don't manage to do is to use the upstream-ldap (the eDirectory) to authenticate our institution's samba: i configured my samba-server to auth against the upstream ldap server: passdb backend = ldapsam:ldaps://ldap.example.com but when i try to authenticate a user, i get: $ smbclient -U USER \\\\SMBSERVER\\test Enter USER's password: Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.6.6] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED the logfiles show: [2012/10/02 09:53:47.692987, 0] passdb/secrets.c:350(fetch_ldap_pw) fetch_ldap_pw: neither ldap secret retrieved!   We are using ActiveMQ 5.6.0 with KahaDB. No more messages were processed, when we ran into the 1GB temp usage limit. Or that's what we are assuming, is that correct? The configuration looks like this: <systemUsage> <systemUsage> <memoryUsage> <memoryUsage limit="512mb"/> </memoryUsage> <storeUsage> <storeUsage limit="3 gb"/> </storeUsage> <tempUsage> <tempUsage limit="1 gb"/> </tempUsage> </systemUsage> </systemUsage> After cleaning up the log files and being way below the limits, still no messages were consumed by AMQ. Only when we manually purged a route, messages were starting to be delivered again. So we need to ensure, that the KahaDB log size always stays below the temp usage, right? And that delivery was not picked up after fixing that is a bug or are there any other steps to be taken?

• New to server admin, Diagnosing Memory and CPU issues on DV

  Sorry for my ignorance and lack of knowledge. I'm a PHP/Front-end developer just now venturing into very minor server management/diagnostics. I have a Media Temple DV account. I have 2 sites that run a PHP script through a subscription service to an API. Basically API hits site with said script. Script runs, gathers data from api, saves data to SQL database. I noticed that these sites seemed to causing memory overages on my server (not sure why). So I temporarily disabled them. The memory overage alerts stopped but my CPU still sits really high, like at 115% and above. I'm trying to diagnos this with tutorials and resources but just can't seem to find a solution. I'll attach screenshots(screenshots are without the PHP scripts I assume are responsible for the memory issues) I'm assuming are important to the diagnosis, but if anyone can point me in the right direction to start A. figuring out if and why the PHP script may be causing memory overages and B. • Oracle: 1 Large Server vs. 2 Smaller Servers?

  We are in the planning stages of setting up our production Oracle 10gR2 environment. Our budget gives us the ability to buy 2 processor licenses of Oracle DB Standard Edition. We have minimal experience with Oracle so I'll defer to anyone who has used it. We are trying to decide if we should set up a single dual quad-core box or 2 individual quad-core boxes in a RAC configuration. Our DB right now is about 60 GB, and at our peak, we'll have up to 150 concurrent users. Most of the big stuff is done via batch processing at night. My gut tells me that having 2 boxes in a RAC configuration can't be a bad thing because it provides a true hardware failover solution. DB stored in a shared LUN on a SAN via iSCSI. Plus if we ever need to add capacity, we already have boxes in place that can be upgraded with extra procs (I assume with zero downtime, since it's set up in a RAC config) if we add extra licenses, or RAM. Does RAC have any performance penalties? Will it add extra latency? Is there any true advantage for having dual processor boxes running these systems? If we build out the Oracle boxes with special hardware: hardware iSCSI cards, TOE NICs, will these boxes be solid? We are deploying on 64-bit Windows. So what would you do? One box or two?

  I heard that .NET 4 has a new caching API. Okay, so the good old System.Web.Caching.Cache (which is, by the way, still there in .NET 4) has the ability to set so-called CacheDependency objects to determine whether a cached item is expired or not. One can also specify custom logic for determining whether a cached item is still useable or not by deriving a custom subclass from CacheDependency. I'm curious, is there a way to provide such a logic in the new API?

• Facebook Oauth Logout

  I have an application that integrates with Facebook using Oauth 2. I can authorize with FB and query their REST and Graph APIs perfectly well, but when I authorize an active browser session is created with FB. I can then log-out of my application just fine, but the session with FB persists, so if anyone else uses the browser they will see the previous users FB account (unless the previous user manually logs out of FB also). The steps I take to authorize are: Call [LINK: graph.facebook.com/oauth/authorize?client_id...] This step opens a Facebook login/connect window if the user's browser doesn't already have an active FB session. Once they log-in to facebook they redirect to my site with a code I can exchange for an oauth token. Call [LINK: graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?client_id..] with the code from (1) Now I have an Oauth Token, and the user's browser is logged into my site, and into FB. I call a bunch of APIs to do stuff: i.e. [LINK: graph.facebook.com/me?access_token=..] Lets say my user wants to log out of my site. The FB terms and conditions demand that I perform Single Sign Off, so when the user logs out of my site, they also are logged out of Facebook. There are arguments that this is a bit daft, but I'm happy to comply if there is any way of actually achieving that. I have seen suggestions that: A. I use the Javascript API to logout: FB.Connect.logout(). Well I tried using that, but it didn't work, and I'm not sure exactly how it could, as I don't use the Javascript API in any way on my site. The session isn't maintained or created by the Javascript API so I'm not sure how it's supposed to expire it either. B. Use [LINK: facebook.com/logout.php]. This was suggested by an admin in the Facebook forums some time ago. The example given related to the old way of getting FB sessions (non-oauth) so I don't think I can apply it in my case. C. Use the old REST api expireSession or revokeAuthorization. I tried both of these and while they do expire the Oauth token they don't invalidate the session that the browser is currently using so it has no effect, the user is not logged out of Facebook. I'm really at a bit of a loose end, the Facebook documentation is patchy, ambiguous and pretty poor. The support on the forums is non-existant, at the moment I can't even log in to the facebook forum, and aside from that, their own FB Connect integration doesn't even work on the forum itself.   I'm trying to update one value of a compound primary key from within the entity framework and I'm getting this error: "The property 'CustomerID' is part of the object's key information and cannot be modified. " Here is my code: Dim customer As Customer = (From c In db.Customer Where c.CustomerID = "xxx" AndAlso c.SiteKey = siteKey).FirstOrDefault customer.CustomerID = "fasdfasdf" db.SaveChanges() It seems too simple.   I am going to sum up my problem first and then offer massive details and what I have already tried. Summary: I have an internal winform app that uses Linq 2 Sql to connect to a local SQL Express database. Each user has there own DB and the DB stay in sync through Merge Replication with a Central DB. All DB's are SQL 2005(sp2or3). We have been using this app for over 5 months now but recently our users are getting a Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. Detailed: The strange part is they get that in two differnt locations(2 differnt LINQ Methods) and only the first time they fire in a given time period(~5mins). One LINQ method is pulling all records that match a FK ID and then Manipulating them to form a Heirarchy View for a TreeView. The second is pulling all records that match a FK ID and dumping them into a DataGridView. The only things I can find in common with the 2 are that the first IS an IEnumerable and the second converts itself from IQueryable - IEnumerable - DataTable... I looked at the query's in Profiler and they 'seemed' normal. They are not very complicated querys. They are only pulling back 10 - 90 records, from one table. Any thoughts, suggestions, hints whatever would be greatly appreciated. • Sendmail Failing to Forward Locally Addressed Mail to Exchange Server

  I've recently gained employment as a web developer with a small company. What they neglected to tell me upon hire was that I would be administrating the server along with my other daily duties. Now, truth be told, I'm not clueless when it comes to these things, but this is my first rodeo working with a rack server/console.. However, I'm confident that I will be able to work through any solutions you provide. Short Description: When a customer places an order via our (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) website, a copy of said order is supposed to be BCC'd to our sales manager. I say supposed because this was a working feature before the old administrator left. Long Description: Shortly after I started, we had a server crash which required a server restart. After restart, we noticed a few features on our site weren't working, but all those have been cleaned up except this one. I had to create an account on our server for root access. When a customer places an order, our sites software (Magento CE 1.8.1.0) is configured to BCC the customers order email to our sales manager. We use a Microsoft Exchange 2007 Server for our mail, which is hosted on a different machine (in-house) that I don't have access to ATM, but I'm sure I could if needed. As far as I can tell, all other external emails work.. Only INTERNAL email addresses fail to deliver. I know this because I've also tested my own internal address via our website. I set up an account with an internal email, made a test order, and never received the email. I changed my email for the account to an external GMail account, and received emails as expected. Let's dive into the logs and config's. For privacy/security reasons, names have been changed to the following: domain.com = Our Top Level Domain. email.local = Our Exchange Server. example.com = ANY other TLD. • Handling Errors from HttpWebRequest.GetResponse

  Hey experts - I'm having a ridiculous time trying to get an SMS API working (ZeepMobile, if you're interested) with .NET... I've been around .NET for a few years, but with all this social networking and API stuff, I need to get into the HttpWebRequest a bit. I'm new at it, but not completely new; I was able to hook up my site to Twitter without too much fuss (ie, I was able to modify someone's code to work for me). Anyways, the way their API works is to send an SMS message, you send them a POST and they respond back to you. I can send it just fine, but every time I do, rather than echo back something helpful to figure out what the error is, I get the Yellow Error Page Of Death (YEPOD) saying something to the effect of "The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request." This occurs on my line: '...creation of httpwebrequest here...' After that I imported the plugins in Netbeans, but during installation I was prompted with: Warning - could not install some modules: Erlang Project - The module named org.netbeans.modules.parsing.api was needed and not found. • Cache the result of a MySQLdb database query in memory

  Our application fetches the correct database server from a pool of database servers. So each query is really 2 queries, and they look like this: Fetch the correct DB server Execute the query We do this so we can take DB servers online and offline as necessary, as well as for load-balancing. But the first query seems like it could be cached to memory, so it only actually queries the database every 5 or 10 minutes or so. What's the best way to do this? Thanks.
