• boolean VB expression returning false for integer 1

  This is probably a really basic (no pun intended) question, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Why does the result of func1 return False and func2 returns True? On every other test I have done, integer 1 is converted to boolean true and 0 to false. Works ok if I just set rtnValue to 1 or 0. • Installing ImageMagick on Mac OSX 10.6

  I just got a new Mac and am trying to setup a local Perl development environment. I'm using MAMP but also need the ImageMagick perl module installed in order to do some of the photo processing our scripts require. I tried installing ImageMagick manually but ran into some issues and after reading online a lot of people reported having issues going this route. The general consensus was to install it using MacPorts instead so I went ahead and installed MacPorts. Unfortunately, MacPorts can't seem to install it successfully either. • HTMLUNIT Facebook javascript warning

  Hi I am trying to create simple application that would be able to search people on facebook using given e-mail. I am already able to log into an account using the HTMLunit tool and even create a page, which should throw result of my search. But when I try to print the result as XML the file is missing some blocks of javascript results (I can tell that they are missing by comparing file created by my application and source code, that can be viewed by using IE) Is there any way around this? I just need to get the same result IE's showsource function does. Thanks a lot.   Hello everyone Masters Of Web Delevopment :) I have a piece of PHP script that fetches last 10 played songs from my winamp. This script is inside file (lets call it "lastplayed.php") which is included in my site with php include function inside a "div". My site is on UTF-8 encoding. The problem is that some songs titles are in Windows-1251 encoding. And in my site they displays like "??????"... Is there any known way to tell to this div with included "lastplayed.php" in it, to be with windows-1251 encoding? Or any other suggestions? P.S: The file with fetching script a.k.a.   Is it possible to edit the sudoers file so a user can use sudo for any command except for a specified one? I reverse is true, I believe, that the sudoers file can be setup so that a user can only execute a given list of commands. EDIT: the commands I really want to take away are halt and reboot... this makes me think there are special system calls for halt and reboot. Can you take system calls away from a user? If not, is it because the unix permission system abstracts over system calls neglecting this?

  We run IIS websites on a VMWare production server that pull image content and video content from a separate IIS instance on another server (media server). The media calls (images and video) are straight http:// calls and not using a streaming application. During peak traffic periods, we clone the production server five times and have a load balancer distribute traffic to all five production servers. The media server does not get ramped up. We noticed that the processing and resources on the media server gets very taxed during this period. Would it make sense to run the IIS instance for the media server locally on the production server and have it cloned with the production servers, then have a rule on the load balancer negotiating these media calls from the website? Would it be better to allocate more resources (memory and CPUs) to the media server VM and not clone it with the production servers? Recommendations are sincerely appreciated.

  Right now, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD595 headphones. They are plugged into a DAC/headphone amp. I spend all day listening to music through them and they sound awesome. Then, for making calls, I have a wireless USB headset from Logitech. Problem is, I can't make calls when I'm wearing my Sennheisers but I wouldn't want to listen to music all day using the Logitech headset. So I spend my day switching in between. So the question is, how can I make calls while wearing the headphones of my choice? One thing I thought of is a wireless USB microphone that I can clip to the Sennheisers. So I'd wear the Sennheisers with this mic all day and ditch the Logitech headset. But it doesn't look like anyone makes a microphone like this. By the way, I would love if the solution didn't transmit the sound of my clacky keyboard or noisy wood flooring.

  I have several web applications running on my developer machine. They mimic our production web applications which are hosted on sub-domain. For example, consider: api.myserver.com - is mimicked by 127.0.0.1:8000 www.myserver.com - is mimicked by 127.0.0.1:8008 and so on... How can I make it so that, on my Windows 7 machine, HTTP calls to "api.myserver.com" (note the lack of port number) are redirected to 127.0.0.1:8000 etc? Note that this needs to apply both to client-side calls (in the browser) and server-side calls (from IIS to Python development server and vice versa). Do I need a proxy to run locally to achieve this? Can you recommend such a tool?

I currently have no phone number; I can make outgoing calls via the widget in gmail, but I cannot receive calls (as far as I know). I know that you can set up a google voice number to forward to google chat, and this is exactly what I want. The first one is to copy the daemon.sh from $CATALINA_HOME/bin to /etc/init.d, and the other one I have seen is to create a simple init script that class $CATALINA_HOME/bin/startup.sh, etc. Startup.sh calls catalina.sh. The contents of the daemon.sh and startup.sh look very similar (at least for the env variables, and stuff like that). Daemon.sh calls jsvc in the end. Catalina.sh calls java. What is the (practical) difference between using the two of these when setting up tomcat as a service?

• jQuery DatePicker - 'fake' click on page load

  Hey! I've got a quick question about the jQuery UI DatePicker. When I load the page, defaultDate: 0 will work fine with selecting the current day's date. I would like to create a 'fake' click on the date so it will execute my JavaScript function and retrieve information from the database. • mootools slideshow not working with JQuery. Need help !

  I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem. • A little bit of Ajax goes a long way

  ..except when you're having problems. My problem is this: I have a hierarchical list of categories stored in a database which I wish to output in a dropdown list. The hierarchy comes into place when the subcategories are to be displayed, which are dependent on a parent id (which equals out to the first seven or so main categories listed). My thoughts are relatively simple: when the user clicks the dynamically allocated list of main categories, they are clicking on an option tag. For each option tag, an id (i.e., the parent) is listed in the value attribute, as well as an argument which is sent to a Javascript function which then uses AJAX to get the data via PHP and sends it to my 'javascript.php' file. The file then does magic, and populates the subcategory list, which is dependent on the main category selected. I believe I have the idea down, it's just that I'm implementing the solution improperly, for some reason. I'm thinking that for some reason, the data is being sent to my form.php file, or my default.php file which includes both the form.php and javascript.php files via a function. Is there something specific that I'm missing here? Just looking up basic AJAX syntax (via jQuery) hasn't helped out, unfortunately.

• Problem Implementing StructureMap in VB.Net Conversion of SharpArchitecture

  I work in a VB.Net environment and have recently been tasked with creating an MVC enviroment to use as a base to work from. I decided to convert the latest SharpArchitecture release (Q3 2009) into VB, which on the whole has gone fine after a bit of hair pulling. I came across a problem with Castle Windsor where my custom repository interface (lives in the core/domain project) that was reference in the constructor of my test controller was not getting injected with the concrete implementation (from the data project). I hit a brick wall with this so basically decided to switch out Castle Windsor for StructureMap. I think I have implemented this ok as everything compiles and runs and my controller ran ok when referencing a custom repository interface. It appears now that I have/or cannot now setup my generic interfaces up properly (I hope this makes sense so far as I am new to all this).
