  • setTimeout in javascript not giving browser 'breathing room'

    - by C Bauer
    Alright, I thought I had this whole setTimeout thing perfect but I seem to be horribly mistaken. I'm using excanvas and javascript to draw a map of my home state, however the drawing procedure chokes the browser. Right now I'm forced to pander to IE6 because I'm in a big organisation, which is probably a large part of the slowness. So what I thought I'd do is build a procedure called distributedDrawPolys (I'm probably using the wrong word there, so don't focus on the word distributed) which basically pops the polygons off of a global array in order to draw 50 of them at a time. This is the method that pushes the polygons on to the global array and runs the setTimeout: for (var x = 0; x < polygon.length; x++) { coordsObject.push(polygon[x]); fifty++; if (fifty > 49) { timeOutID = setTimeout(distributedDrawPolys, 5000); fifty = 0; } } I put an alert at the end of that method, it runs in practically a second. The distributed method looks like: function distributedDrawPolys() { if (coordsObject.length > 0) { for (x = 0; x < 50; x++) { //Only do 50 polygons var polygon = coordsObject.pop(); var coordinate = polygon.selectNodes("Coordinates/point"); var zip = polygon.selectNodes("ZipCode"); var rating = polygon.selectNodes("Score"); if (zip[0].text.indexOf("HH") == -1) { var lastOriginCoord = []; for (var y = 0; y < coordinate.length; y++) { var point = coordinate[y]; latitude = shiftLat(point.getAttribute("lat")); longitude = shiftLong(point.getAttribute("long")); if (y == 0) { lastOriginCoord[0] = point.getAttribute("long"); lastOriginCoord[1] = point.getAttribute("lat"); } if (y == 1) { beginPoly(longitude, latitude); } if (y > 0) { if (translateLongToX(longitude) > 0 && translateLongToX(longitude) < 800 && translateLatToY(latitude) > 0 && translateLatToY(latitude) < 600) { drawPolyPoint(longitude, latitude); } } } y = 0; if (zip[0].text != targetZipCode) { if (rating[0] != null) { if (rating[0].text == "Excellent") { endPoly("rgb(0,153,0)"); } else if (rating[0].text == "Good") { endPoly("rgb(153,204,102)"); } else if (rating[0].text == "Average") { endPoly("rgb(255,255,153)"); } } else { endPoly("rgb(255,255,255)"); } } else { endPoly("rgb(255,0,0)"); } } } } Ugh I don't know if that is properly formatted, I ended up with an extra bracket < So I thought the setTimeout method would allow the site to draw the polygons in groups so the users would be able to interact with the page while it was still drawing. What am I doing wrong here?

  • QueryPerformanceCounter Not Working Properly on Amazon EC2 with Win Server 2008

    - by timeitquery
    Our application makes use of QueryPerformanceCounter to measure timings. When running it on Amazon EC2 instances we are noticing number that are out of whack. The symptoms look very similar to what has been reported with virtualized machines on HP proreliant servers, however all the articles state that this was not the case for Windows Server 2008. The articles recommended modifing the boot.ini to /USEPMTIMER - however, this seem to be missing from the documentation on bcdedit - which replaced boot.ini

  • Power of programming languages

    - by Casebash
    Are there any objective measures for measuring the power of programming languages? Turing-completeness is one, but it is not particularly discriminating. I also remember there being a few others measures of power which are more limited versions (like finite-state-autonoma), but is there any objective measure that is more powerful?

    - by Jeff D
    There are actually 3 errors here. When I open Word, I get: Word cannot open the existing global template. () If I create a file, type a character and try to save to the desktop (that I have no problems writing to otherwise), I get: Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected. Try one or more of the following: * Free more memory * Make sure that the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write-protected, or damaged. () I am just saving to the desktop, and I can save excel files (or anything else) there. After the failure, if I save again, the default file name becomes: .doc...doc Weird. Finally, when I close word completely, I get: Do you want to replace the existing Normal.dotm.

  • Apache not using the right SSL certificate [on hold]

    - by user2420318
    In my apache2 setup, I have one VirtualHost for my main site, and another for a static content site, like downloads, css, etc. I have ssl certificates for both, and the static content one is under a subdomain of the main site. I have configured the four virtualhosts altogether, as both sites need SSL ones as well. When I only had 1 SSL site, everything was OK, but now with the second, the first site uses the second site's certificate, even though it is told specifically to use its own in the VirtualHost section. I honestly have no idea why apache would do this. Any ideas? I have a feeling there may be some default/global setting or something that are set for some odd reason. I am using different IPs for the Virtual hosts.

  • Looking for a web pdf viewer, not the google document viewer

    - by Jonathan
    I would love to use google document viewer, but I am dealing with sensitive documents and google's Terms state that if you use their service the document basically becomes public domain. Are they any alternatives that will keep your content private? FYI: I am developing with ruby on rails, it would be cool if there was a gem.

  • How to get a group of toggle buttons to act like radio buttons in WPF?

    - by code-zoop
    I have a group of buttons that should act like toggle buttons, but also as radio buttons where only one button can be selected / pressed down at a current time. It also need to have a state where none of the buttons are selected / pressed down. The behavior will be kind of like Photoshop toolbar, where zero or one of the tools are selected at any time! Any idea how this can be implemented in WPF?

  • Maven Tutorial that Covers a Complete Project Lifecycle

    - by Jonas Laufu
    Can anyone point to a maven tutorial / how-to that covers everything that is normally required during an OSS project: project creation, sources, build, test, integration in SCM, etc, deployment to one's own repository, release creation and upload? I have been able to gather all this information from ten different sources, but it is not easy to get the complete picture because every source expects a different state of existing knowledge.

  • Python: Cannot concatenate str and NoneType objects

    - by Chase Higgins
    sql = """ INSERT INTO [SCHOOLINFO] VALUES( '""" + self.accountNo + """', '""" + self.altName + """', '""" + self.address1 + """', '""" + self.address2 + """', '""" + self.city + """', '""" + self.state + """', '""" + self.zipCode + """', '""" + self.phone1 + """', '""" + self.phone2 + """', '""" + self.fax + """', '""" + self.contactName + """', '""" + self.contactEmail + """', '""" + self.prize_id + """', '""" + self.shipping + """', '""" + self.chairTempPass + """', '""" + self.studentCount + """' ) """; I have the following code and Python keeps throwing the error that it cannon concatenate strings and nonetype objects. The thing is I have verified every variable here is in fact a string and is not null. I have been stuck on this for quite some time today, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • WPF - Random hanging with file browser attached behaviour.

    - by Stimul8d
    Hi, I have an attached behavior defined thusly,.. public static class FileBrowserBehaviour { public static bool GetBrowsesOnClick(DependencyObject obj) { return (bool)obj.GetValue(BrowsesOnClickProperty); } public static void SetBrowsesOnClick(DependencyObject obj, bool value) { obj.SetValue(BrowsesOnClickProperty, value); } // Using a DependencyProperty as the backing store for BrowsesOnClick. This enables animation, styling, binding, etc... public static readonly DependencyProperty BrowsesOnClickProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached("BrowsesOnClick", typeof(bool), typeof(FileBrowserBehaviour), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(false, new PropertyChangedCallback(BrowsesOnClickChanged))); public static void BrowsesOnClickChanged(DependencyObject obj, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs args) { FrameworkElement fe = obj as FrameworkElement; if ((bool)args.NewValue) { fe.PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown += new MouseButtonEventHandler(OpenFileBrowser); } else { fe.PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown -= new MouseButtonEventHandler(OpenFileBrowser); } } static void OpenFileBrowser(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { var tb = sender as TextBox; if (tb.Text.Length < 1 || tb.Text=="Click to browse..") { OpenFileDialog ofd = new OpenFileDialog(); ofd.Filter = "Executables | *.exe"; if (ofd.ShowDialog() == true) { Debug.WriteLine("Setting textbox text-" + ofd.FileName); tb.Text = ofd.FileName; Debug.WriteLine("Set textbox text"); } } } } It's a nice simple attached behavior which pops open an OpenFileDialog when you click on a textbox and puts the filename in the box when you're done. It works maybe 40% of the time but the rest of the time the whole app hangs. The call stack at this point looks like this - [Managed to Native Transition] WindowsBase.dll!MS.Win32.UnsafeNativeMethods.GetMessageW(ref System.Windows.Interop.MSG msg, System.Runtime.InteropServices.HandleRef hWnd, int uMsgFilterMin, int uMsgFilterMax) + 0x15 bytes WindowsBase.dll!System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.GetMessage(ref System.Windows.Interop.MSG msg, System.IntPtr hwnd, int minMessage, int maxMessage) + 0x48 bytes WindowsBase.dll!System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.PushFrameImpl(System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherFrame frame = {System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherFrame}) + 0x8b bytes WindowsBase.dll!System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.PushFrame(System.Windows.Threading.DispatcherFrame frame) + 0x49 bytes WindowsBase.dll!System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.Run() + 0x4c bytes PresentationFramework.dll!System.Windows.Application.RunDispatcher(object ignore) + 0x1e bytes PresentationFramework.dll!System.Windows.Application.RunInternal(System.Windows.Window window) + 0x6f bytes PresentationFramework.dll!System.Windows.Application.Run(System.Windows.Window window) + 0x26 bytes PresentationFramework.dll!System.Windows.Application.Run() + 0x19 bytes Debugatron.exe!Debugatron.App.Main() + 0x5e bytes C# [Native to Managed Transition] [Managed to Native Transition] mscorlib.dll!System.AppDomain.nExecuteAssembly(System.Reflection.Assembly assembly, string[] args) + 0x19 bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Runtime.Hosting.ManifestRunner.Run(bool checkAptModel) + 0x6e bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Runtime.Hosting.ManifestRunner.ExecuteAsAssembly() + 0x84 bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Runtime.Hosting.ApplicationActivator.CreateInstance(System.ActivationContext activationContext, string[] activationCustomData) + 0x65 bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Runtime.Hosting.ApplicationActivator.CreateInstance(System.ActivationContext activationContext) + 0xa bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Activator.CreateInstance(System.ActivationContext activationContext) + 0x3e bytes Microsoft.VisualStudio.HostingProcess.Utilities.dll!Microsoft.VisualStudio.HostingProcess.HostProc.RunUsersAssemblyDebugInZone() + 0x23 bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(object state) + 0x66 bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext executionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback callback, object state) + 0x6f bytes mscorlib.dll!System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart() + 0x44 bytes Now, I've seen this kind of thing before when doing some asynchronous stuff but there's none of that going on at that point. • Notify a service from a PhoneStateListener

    - by LucaB
    Hi I have built an application that listen to call state changes, and I want to notify a service when the call_state became IDLE. All the components I have are functional, I just need to notify (not start) a service for this. What's the correct practice, maybe using AIDL? Because, in a PhoneStateListener, I can't bind to a service. Do I have to start an activity for that?

Effectively I want: Mouse Down : Div goes green Mouse Up: Div stays green Mouse Down: Div goes red Mouse Up: Div stays red Instead of: Mouse Down: Div goes green Mouse Up: Div goes red

  • Why can't I inherit static classes?

    - by User
    I have several classes that do not really need any state. From the organizational point of view, I would like to put them into hierarchy. But it seems I can't declare inheritance for static classes. Something like that: public static class Base { } public static class Inherited : Base { } will not work. Why have the designers of the language closed that possibility?
