• wpf c# media player questions

  I'm making a media player in wpf using c#. When I click on the seeker to move it to a certain position, the song stops playing but the seeker moves. What's the problem and how do I fix it? How do I create a volume increase/decrease bar? How can I open several mp3s and queue them up like a playlist? Thank you

• How do I dynamically tell a .NET MVC application which datasource to point to?

  I'm beginning a port of an existing ColdFusion application to .NET MVC and one of the first issues I'm running into is that in ColdFusion we use the fact that you can define multiple datasources and access them in a dynamic way so that a particular user can be pointed at a particular database. To give an example, I might have two databases, Foo and Bar which each have a table called Locations which store locations particular to that database. The databases are guaranteed to have the same tables, so that's not a concern. In ColdFusion, you can easily dynamically point a user towards a particular datasource because it's just a string which is configured via the ColdFusion administrator (or you could programatically modify an XML file). So the question is how to do this in .NET? And specifically, I think I'd really like to use the Entity framework to leverage the ORM support it'll offer to perform operations on the data in the database, but I'm not sure how to do that (hopefully it's possible). Any thoughts?

  I'm starting using Qt in my application. My application is MFC based. I want to draw some QGraphicsItems in my currect MFC view, is it possible? You may say that it could be done by hosting QGraphicsView with QWinWidget in the MFC view, that don't work, however. Because my Canvas (MFC view) supports zooming and rotating while the QGraphicsView itself don't. When I zooming the QGraphicsItem, the QGraphicsView shows scroll bar instead of enlarging itself. Any suggestion? Thanks!

• PHP / jQuery page change transition

  Hey all Basically I want to replicate the page changing effect found here, at http://timvandamme.com/ But instead of using #values I want to use PHP includes, mainly because I want the site to be as uber-seo-friendly as possible... but still have this nice effect. So is there a way of doing this? I have a main index file which includes other php files in the centre using the usual 'GET' method, so my pages look like: "index.php?page=about" In my jQuery code I want to have a declaration where if I click the navigation, the content scrolls up, then once the relevant PHP file has loaded, have the content scroll back down and show the new page content (whilst also of navigated to the new page in the address bar, so if the user clicks the back button in their browser, they return to the previous page). I know how to code the scrolling bits, it's just literally the ajax loading includes / page navigation parts I'm struggling to work out :\ Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thanks in advance. • Is using value converters to generate GUI-friendly strings a misuse of value converters?

  Currently, I use value converters to generate user-friendly strings for the GUI. As an example, I have a window that displays the number of available entities in the status bar. The Viewmodel simply has an int dependency property that the calling code can set, and then on the binding for the textbox that displays the number of entities, I specify the int dependency property and a value converter that changes "x" into "x entities available". My code is starting to become littered with these converters, and I have a large number of annoying resource declarations in my XAML, and yet I like them because all the GUI-specific string formatting is being isolated in the converters and the calling code doesn't have to worry about it. But still, I wonder if this is not the purpose that value converters were made for.

• XML/XHTML replace content?

  I have a XHTML string I want to replace tags in for example <span tag="x">FOO</span> <span tag="y"> <b>bar</b> some random text <span>another span</span> </span> I want to be able to find tag="x" and replace FOO with my own content and find tag=y and replace all the inner content with by own content. What is the best way to do this? I am thinking regex is definitely out of the question. Can XPATH do this or is that just for searching can it do manipulation?

  I'm developing a blackberry application that plays video from the server. I've used Player.start() and Player.stop() for playing and pausing a video. But I also need rewind, forward and seek bar controls in my application. I tried using FramePositioningControl for these controls. But the following code is returning null. FramePositioningControl framePositioningControl = (FramePositioningControl) player.getControl("FramePositioningControl"); I searched several forums and they say many players do not support FramePositioningControl. What players support FramePositioningControl? And what else should I do to add these controls in my application?

  I created a new project thus ... File, New Project... Java, Java Application. Right-click project icon in "Projects" tree-view panel. Choose New, Web Service Client... Specify WSDL file e.g. ( ) Project (*) Local file D:\temp\Foo\Bar.wsdl ( ) WSDL URL [Set Proxy...] client-style JAX-WS [ ] Generate Dispatch code It parsed the WSDL and generated lots of java files. I created a main class and used Netbeans to insert a WS client call Now whenever I run my code (Desktop app), it again parses the WSDL (which doesn't ever change) and regenerates about 78 java files and compiles them. How do I stop Netbeans performing this uneccessary and time-consuming action?

• How to find a coding buddy

  I was reading Jeff Atwood's blog and he mentioned that he was suffering from code-paralysis (he called it analysis paralysis, but I feel like it's also code paralysis) when he didn't have a code buddy: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/ Unfortunately I think that Jeff has set the bar a bit high, because he only works with developers who are really amazing. The only reason really amazing developers would work with me is if I was really amazing too, but sometimes I don't feel that amazing... the only thing I feel is that if I had a coding buddy I could be amazing :). I'm working on a project and I don't have many friends that are programmers, let alone friends that have time to spend on extracurricular activities. Jeff seems to have been able to find like-minded people that are actually willing to work together. I feel like I'm in a code-paralysis stage too and I need some coding buddies, where would I find some? How would I approach them?

• Adding Parameters to Zend_Navigation

  I have a problem with Zend_Navigation that I am hoping for a little guidance on. I'm in the process of adding a Zend_Navigation to a legacy app as described [here on SO].1 The thing that I am not sure of is how to add parameters to the navigation menu after the data is loaded from the xml file. What I want to do is get 2 identifying parameters from the url and add them to the Zend_Navigation so that they are included in things such as the breadcrumb bar, so that if a user selects the previous item in the breadcrumb they are returned with the correct params in the url. The parameters, I believe need to be set at the Action level rather than the controller. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

• Getting a Method's Return Value in the VS Debugger

  Is it possible to get a method's return value in the Visual Studio debugger, even if that value isn't assigned to a local variable? For example, I'm debugging the following code: public string Foo(int valueIn) { if (valueIn > 100) return Proxy.Bar(valueIn); else return "Not enough"; } Since I'm not setting any local variables in Foo, and assuming I'm not setting a break point in whatever's calling Foo, is there a way to see what the return value is if I have a breakpoint inside of Foo (or another way)? I don't have much experience with the Autos or Intermediate windows, so I'm not sure if those are even a valid option or not.

  Is there a way I can reset the style of a certain character sequence? I'm using the listings package to display source code and the prebreak property to display a escape character \ to indicate that the current lines was broken. The problem is that sometimes the backslash is colored because of the syntax highlighting used. • CSS : overflow : auto will not work under FireFox 3.6.2

  Hello everyone: This is a CSS related question, I got one good answer from my previous question, which suggested to use some CSS code like overflow:auto together with a fixed height container. And here is my actual implementation : on uni server Please follow the instructions on screen and buy more than 4 kinds of tickets. If you are using IE8, Opera, Safari, Chrome, you would notice that the lower right corner of the page now has a vertical scroll bar, which scrolls the content inside it and prevent it from overflowing. That's what I want to have in this section. Now the problem is, this would not do in FireFox 3.6.2. Am I doing something not compliant to the CSS standard or FireFox has its own way of overflow control? You can inspect the elements on screen, and all controlling functions are done in one javascript using jQuery. All CSS code are kept in a separated file as well. According to the professor, FireFox would be the target browser, although the version was set to 2.0...

• How can I get a value from an xml key/value pair with xpath in my xslt?

  I have some xml that I want to process using xslt. A good amount of the data comes through in key value pairs (see below). I am struggling with how to extract the value base on the key into a variable. I would like to be able to do something like this: <xsl:variable name="foo" select="/root/entry[key = 'foo']/value"/> but that doesn't seem to work. Here is sample xml. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <root> <entry> <key> foo </key> <value> bar </value> </entry> </root> What would the correct xpath be for this?

• SHAddToRecentDocs without a file?

  I was toying with an IRC client, integrating it with the windows 7 app bar. To get a "Frequent" or "Recent" items list one has to call SHAddToRecentDocs API. I want to add recent IRC channels visited to the Windows 7 Jumplist for the IRC application. Now, my problem is, IRC channels don't exist in the file system. And SHAddToRecentDocs seems to insist on getting some sort of file system object. Ive tried to work around it by creating a IShellItem pointing to my application, and giving it a command line to launch the channel. The shell is rebelling however, and thus far has not visibly added any of my "recent document" attempts to the Jumplist. Is there no way to do this without creating some kind of entirely unwanted filesystem object?

• chrooting user causes "connection closed" message when using sftp

  First off I am a linux newbie so please don't assume much knowledge. I am using CentOS 5.8 (final) and using OpenSSH version 5.8p1. I have made a user playwithbits and I am attempting to chroot them to the directory home/nginx/domains/playwithbits/public I am using the following match statement in my sshd_config file: Match group web-root-locked ChrootDirectory /home/nginx/domains/%u/public X11Forwarding no AllowTcpForwarding no ForceCommand /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server # id playwithbits returns: uid=504(playwithbits) gid=504(playwithbits) groups=504(playwithbits),507(web-root-locked) I have changed the user's home directory to: home/nginx/domains/playwithbits/public Now when I attempt to sftp in with this user I instantly get the message: connection closed Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I have made a bit of progress by using chmod to set permissions recursively of all files in the directly to 700. At some point in public void update the observer tries to updates the GUI ((TextView)findViewById('R.id.foo')).setText("bar"); but it seems like the observable thread calls this method, because the Observable (!!!) throws this: android.view.ViewRoot$CalledFromWrongThreadException: Only the original thread that created a view hierarchy can touch its views. at android.view.ViewRoot.checkThread(ViewRoot.java:2462) at android.view.ViewRoot.requestLayout(ViewRoot.java:512) ... at com.mynamespace.acitivty.TrackActivity.startPlay(TrackActivity.java:72) at com.mynamespace.acitivty.TrackActivity.update(TrackActivity.java:107) at java.util.Observable.notifyObservers(Observable.java:147) at java.util.Observable.notifyObservers(Observable.java:128) at com.mynamespace.module.communication.Download.stateChanged(Download.java:213) at com.mynamespace.module.communication.Download.run(Download.java:186) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:1058) Is there some way I can prevent this from happening?   For automated testing reasons I want to detect if the browser has encountered JavaScript errors for a page. The type of things that would cause the red numbers in the bottom right in Firebug or yellow warning icon in the Internet Explorer status bar. These JS errors could come from any one of a large numbers of scripts. How in JavaScript can I detect these browser errors? Cross browser solutions prefered, but hey, I'll take anything! As a bonus it would also be great to know the script that caused the error.

• How do you get the glyph for a character encoded as '&#333;' from a utf-8 encoded database field usi

  I have a MySQL database table with a collation of 'utf8_general_ci' and the value in the field is: x & #299; bán yá wén (without the spaces). When this is converted (for example by StackOverflow's editor) it looks like this: xī bán yá wén where the second character looks like a lower case i with a bar over the top. In PHP, what function converts the & #299 ; entity into the ī character? I've tried using html_entity_decode($str,ENT_COMPAT,'UTF-8'), however I get characters like the following: yÄ«n wén or zhÅ•ng wén I'm pretty sure there's something I don't understand about the decoding, which is why I'm using the wrong function. Can anyone shed some light on how to get the single character glyph that's represented by the entity & #299 and similar high-number characters above 255? Many thanks, AE

• Response.Redirect() will not redirect on Internet Explorer

  Hi, I am using Response.Redirect("someurl",true); in the page_preInit event to redirect all the requests that come to a page. It works fine on Firexox, but if i access the page from internet explorer 7/8, it says page can not be found and will not redirect to new URL. Any idea why this happens?? Update: I tried giving a radom URL in the redirect such as google.com and it works fine. Actually the URL I am trying to redirect is not accessible on my machine, it is on another VPN. I guess IE will not change the URL on the addressbar if it can not access the URL. Firefox on the other hand changes the address on the address bar.

• unevenly centered subplots in matplotlib in Python?

  I am plotting a simple pair of subplots in matplotlib that are for some reason unevenly centered. I plot them as follows: plt.figure() # first subplot s1 = plt.subplot(2, 1, 1) plt.bar([1, 2, 3], [4, 5, 6]) # second subplot s2 = plt.subplot(2, 1, 2) plt.pcolor(rand(5,5)) # add colorbar plt.colorbar() # square axes axes_square(s1) axes_square(s2) where axes_square is simply: def axes_square(plot_handle): plot_handle.axes.set_aspect(1/plot_handle.axes.get_data_ratio()) The plot I get is attached. The top and bottom plots are unevenly centered. I'd like their yaxis to be aligned and their boxes to be aligned. If I remove the plt.colorbar() call, the plots become centered. How can I have the plots centered while the colorbar of pcolor is still shown? I want the axes to be centered and have the colorbar be outside of that alignment, either to the left or to the right of the pcolor matrix. image of plots link thanks.
