Say when editing Google document A and want to put a link to open document B. Is there any way to do this? Thanks.
PS. I don't want both docs being shared.
I'm looking for a well-respected, high-performing Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V VPS host.
For my linux hosting, I use a shared WebFaction account, so I'm spoiled by their incredible service and support. RackSpaceCloud also sounds really good, especially for linux hosting, but it sounds like their Windows hosting is just getting off the ground. I've heard good things about SoftSysHosting, but I didn't know if there were any other VPS providers out there that people will give strong endorsements for (as I do for WebFaction every chance I get).
I have a wlan setup with that my neighbors can probably access if they're knowledgable enough. My setup includes wireless authentication using WPA/WPA2 mixedmode, WPA-PSK pre-shared key, and enforced MAC filtering.
I am having trouble using my guest (Windows XP SP3) to communicate over TCP/IP to the host computer (Windows 7) using Virtual PC 2007. I have WAMPServer running on my host, and want to be able to access the websites on there from my guest OS.
What do I do to make this work? What is the IP address of the host computer when using Shared Networking?
As far as I can tell "Internal Networking" won't work, because that only allows communication between the guests, not between a guest and the host.
I have a Toshiba laptop with wi-fi connected internet. Now I wanna connect my phone to my laptop and use its Internet connection ( I can't buy new wi-fi or 3g supported mobile phone ). I have no problem connecting k610 to my laptop, and even shared my GPRS internet connection with my PC. but can't do contrary.
How can I connect my k610 mobile (which not support wi-fi connections) to Internet via my Toshiba laptop ( with bluetooth ) ?
P.S: My PC OS is Ubuntu Linux 9.10
I have a SBS 2008 Server/Windows 7 environment. We have approx 25 users & 6 Networked printers.
What is the recommended way/what are the advantages disadvantages of having all the printers shared through the Server 2008 Print server vs having workstations connect directly to the workstation printers.
Off the top of my head using the server 2008 print server is a single point of failure but Should make it easier to deploy/manage the printers.
I have a map drive created from ToolsMap network drive.
Where in the drive is mapped to a different machine's sharedfolder. So each time i switch off the machine ,it asks for password when i open the drive. Is there a way to save this password?
I have MS SQL Server 2008 with SP1 installed.
I want to add the Full text feature to the installation.
Do I need to run the SP1 update again after I add this feature?
If I do try to run it (SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x64-ENU) it fails with this error:
"There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer".
Should I uninstall SP1 and re-install? Doesnt make much sense.
I have a Cannon Pixma ip4300 printer connected to a Mac OS X system and shared using CUPS. I can print to this printer from my Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid workstation just fine, however when printing (specifically from Thunderbird) I don't have the option to print in grayscale or in "low quality"/draft" mode. How can I enable these options to help save on printing costs?
Hello. My host is WinXP and my guest (on VPC 2007) is also WinXP. Both have SP2. I am unable to ping either from one another. However, I am able to connect to the Internet from the guest. My intention is to be able to connect the SQL Server on the host from the Management Studio installed on the guest. Right now I am using Shared Networking (NAT) on the guest's settings.
Hi,
I have
Server1
Win2008 Storage Server
Running DFS
Access-based enumeration - off
Offline settings - disabled
Workstation1
WinXP SP3 32bit
Workstation2
WinXP SP2 64bit
I have a sharedfolder on Server1 on the DFS share.
Workstation1 can see all files and folders. Workstation2 does not. I have tested with multiple WinXP 64bit PCs and the same files across these machines do not show up. Going directly to the files via the address bar works.
Win7 libraries have a default folder location, but there are times I want to save to a different one (eg My Documents vs Shared Documents) but I can't find any way to specify any of the other locations from the file-save dialog.
I'd like to have an audio transmission shared among computers on a LAN. Although there are various systems to do this -- shoutcast/icecast, pulseaudio, etc. -- I'm not aware of any that provide synchronization. I'd like to have different computers in the house playing the same audio, and have the same sample playing at the same time. Is there a system which can do this?
Can this be done?
Two organisations, complete separate domains and exchange servers.
Do I need a AD trust?
Can data be shared over HTTP or does it require a VPN connection?
One Org will have an Exchange 2010 server, the other 2007.
I am looking for a program or program suite that will allow the auditing of network shared resources (specifically storage space), and render reports (who created, deleted, moved, modified files, etc).
Yes, I know I can turn on auditing on Windows, but the Event Log isn't quite the "charmer" for the job.

Hello,
I have created anonymous(everyone account) "hidden" shares on Windows 2003 to let our ASP.NET application access it from another server without credentials. I have added $ to share name to hide it from other users, but actually this is not solution because such shares can be easily discovered by other OS or some tools on Win.
Can I restrict sharedfolder access by IP?
Regards,
Tomas
I have created an automator application that searches a sharedfolder on another mac within the network.
I want to show all the results in one window.
I have tried using Reveal Find Items, but it opens up the directory of which each file is in, not exactly ideal.
I would like to install 2 completely independent instances of Windows XP (no data should be shared) in my computer within 2 different primary partitions.
I know that grub can handle booting them correctly, but I have no idea if it's possible to install it and configure it within a 100% NTFS system and without any extra linux partition/distribution.
have installed VS 2003 in my XP VM, which was shared from a remote drive, after installing, when I tried to open new windows application, the IDE freezes, I have tried it many times, repairing, uninstalling .net 1.1 and VS 2003 and again install, mapping the share drive to my local, etc., After all these trials I was left with no option I know... Any help on this is highly appriciated.
Thnaks, Vijay.
I have one Linux ext3 partition shared on network.
Now when some one copy files from MAc , then other people can't change the file dute to permission problem.
Is there any way that ane new file which is copied will always have 777 permission
and some specific user as owner of file not the default user

I want to define bash functions and aliases in my remote shell automatically on login. I can't put the definitions into .profile or similar because the users I log in as are often shared with others who use the same systems and I don't have control of this. What I'm trying to do is execute a few bash function definitions in the remote process and then continue as a login shell. I tried this but it did not work:
cat ~/.profile - | ssh -tt user@host bash -l
Any ideas?

Does anyone know of a program/script that runs on Linux that can give us a nice GUI for browsing and managing shared system folders similar in the way that windows explorer would work?
So would allow, upload, download, file modification etc. It's a way to still have access to all our files stored on the system from any location with internet access.
Thanks in advance
I'm on a windows workstation, and I want a list of which files are open over the network on a windows server. The Shared Folders MMC Snap-in does this visually, and SysInternals' PSFile does it from the command line, but by default only for admins. I want to let regular users do this, too. What permissions do I need to grant them?
