I have 2 tables: Table 1: Students StudentID StudentDetail 1 StudentName 2 StudentGrade Table 2: Student_data StudentDetail StudentRecords StudentName John (Default) StudentName Jacob StudentName Smith StudentGrade A (default) StudentGrade B StudentGrade C Question: When window form loads (run time) I need to display StudentRecords in combo box with StudentName = "John" and StudentGrade = "A" as default followed by other values. StudentName and StudentRecords are in Labels and values are in a ComboBox. I am using VB.Net and VS 2010 with SQL 2008r2. I would appreciate any step by step help. Apologies If my request is simple.

  • redirect web app results to own application

    Is it possible to redirect a web apps results to a second application? I cannot parse the html source. It contains the javascript functions that execute the queries but all the content is probably server side. I hope this makes sense. The owner has made the script available but I am not sure how this helps. Can I using .net call the site and redirect results perhaps to a file or database? the app accesses one of googles apis and performs searches/queries and returns results which are displayed on the site. Now all the javascript functions that perform these queries are listed in the source but I do not know javascript so it does not make much sense to me. I have used the documentation which uses the oauth protocol to access the api and have implemented that in my web app but it took me nearly a week to get the request token right and now to send requests to the api, sometimes I get one result back and sometimes none. It is frustrating me and the owner of the web app has given use of his script but he says all that happens is that my browser interacts with the google api and not his server. So I thought why not have my web app call his, since his interacts with the API flawlessly and have the results sent to my app to save in a database. I have very little experience here so pardon my ignorance

    Hi I am just wondering in VS2010 the web.config is broken up into web.config web.debug.config web.release.config So from what I gathered is the web.config is just like the master template. So I am guessing in my debug I could put things like my local database where in my release one I would put my server database. Now how does it know when to use the release version or debug version? I also here that you can have more than 2. How does that work?

The first time I try to excute the following code char *p; p[0] = 0; The program died without question. But After serveral time I execute the same problem binary code. It magically did fine. even the following code is doing well. any clue or explain? char *p p[1000] = 'd'; cout<<p[1000]<<endl; my os is windows 7 64bit and compiler is vs2008 rc1.

  • Debugging ASP.NET in VS

    A lot of what I'm doing at the moment is figuring out other peoples code and adding or adapting functions, so currently I am debugging more than I am writing code of my own. I'm still new to this, Junior Developer, and I am always finding new ways to improve what I am doing. For example I recently found This Guide which had some excellent tips, such as overriding the ToString() method in your classes so children are readable from their parents. So I am looking for any other tips or tricks to make my debugging more efficient, as I recognise it as a big part of programming, that you more experienced programmers may have picked up or found. Anything appreciated, I can read websites just fine so no need to explain it yourself if you have a good link!

  • Load Empty Database table

    I am using SQLexpress and VS2008. I have a DB with a table named "A", which has an IdentitySpecification column named ID. The ID is auto-incremented. Even if the row is deleted, the ID still increases. After several data manipulation, the current ID has reached 15, for example. When I run the application if there's at least 1 row: if I add a new row, the new ID is 16. Everything is fine. If the table is empty (no row): if I add a new row, the new ID is 0, which is an error (I think). And further data manipulation (eg. delete or update) will result in an unhandled exception. Has anyone encountered this? PS. In my table definition, the ID has been selected as follow: Identity Increment = 1; Identity Seed =1; The DB load code is: dataSet = gcnew DataSet(); dataAdapter->Fill(dataSet,"A"); dataTable=dataSet->Tables["A"]; dbConnection->Open(); The Update button method dataAdapter->Update(dataSet,"tblInFlow"); dataSet->AcceptChanges(); dataTable=dataSet->Tables["tblInFlow"]; dataGrid->DataSource=dataTable; If I press Update: if there's at least a row: the datagrid view updates and shows the table correctly. if there's nothing in the table (no data row), the Add method will add a new row, but from ID 0. If I close the program and restart it again: the ID would be 16, which is correct.     Hi, I am generating entity wrappers in VS2010 based on dynamic objects in a CRM system. In addition to the entity code, I want to add an EntityBase of which all entities inherit from. If the file exists in the project from before, it should not be added. I am using an IWizard implementation to give the generator the object names etc. Is it possible in the IWizard implementation to determine whether or not to add an item if it exists in the project from before? How do I get a hold of the project handle and its items in or before the ShouldAddProjectItem method?   • Works on debug but not release

    I have a thread that sets a value to true when it is done. Until then I wait: while(1) { if(done[0] == true) { break; } } This code works just fine in Debug but in Release it stays in the loop forever even though the debugger clearly says that it is true and not false. Why would this not work? Thanks

  • DataSet binding problem

    I've got in-memory dataset with some table defined and I populate this table in a following way: for(...) ds.Fields.AddFieldsRow(++j, 0, heading, "Char", "", "", "Input", 0, "","",""); On the GUI I've got DataGridView bound to that table inside TabControl (bound through BindingSource). Very strange thing is happening: if I open tab pane with this grid and populate table with some data then I see changes in grid. On the other side if I'm at other tab, populate table, and then switch to tab with grid I've got following exception: "DataMember property 'Fields' cannot be found on the DataSource". In similar way I've got 2 tab panes with grid in each that are bound to the same datatable using different datasources and I open one of them, populate, see the changes, then switch to second tab and get crash. What am I missing?

    I have a exe was complied by VC6 and the file name is patch.exe, there is no manifest was added, in that case, the EXE file requires administrator privileges, even though I removed all codes, just keep a empty main(), the result is same. But if I change the EXE from patch.exe to a.exe, the issue is gone. Below is my test result. 1. EXE was complied by VC6 2. Without manifest or didn't specific privileges in manifest 3. the exe name included "patch" substring, case-insensitive Is it a Microsoft issue? Why? Tried VC2008, I can't repeat it.

  • problem with exporting a customized form from dll

    I'm working on an application so i have write an dll which contain a form with some additional work and methods. so in the beginning of my program the thread launch this form (from my dll) to get some informations and then hide it and initialize some components and the application form and then show it. when the thread come the line where it define new instance of the exported form "MyForm inputform = new MyForm();" it throw an Exception called "Top-level control cannot be added to a control." so i don't know what to do ?!!. i tried to take the code of the form from the dll source code and put it in the main program and it works.... .but still i want to know what happen and what impede my application from run that form from my dll. thanks.

If i try to make a new app with database, - wpf application with .net studio, -ADD Local Database - then try to add Table, my Database1.sdf disconnects and again freeze!   • Is Private Bytes >> Working Set?

    OK, this may sound weird, but here goes. There are 2 computers, A (Pentium D) and B (Quad Core) with almost the same amount of RAM running Windows XP. If I run the same code on both computers, the allocated private bytes in A never goes down resulting in a crash later on. In B it looks like the private bytes is constantly deallocated and everything looks fine. In both computers, the working set is deallocated and allocated similarly. Could this be an issue with manifests or DLLs (system)? I'm clueless. Note: I observed the utilized memory with Process Explorer. Question: During execution (where we have several allocations and deallocations) is it normal for the number of private bytes to be much bigger (1.5 GB vs 70 MB) than the working set?
