• CREATE mysql database with default InnoDB tables?

  Hello, I've been working on writing a SQL statement to create a MySQL database with several default options, including default character set and default collate. Is it possible to add syntax to make the default engine type for tables in this database to be innodb? I've been looking through the MySQL manual for v.5.1 and I've found the statement 'ENGINE=innodb' which would be appended to a CREATE TABLE statement... but I haven't found anything related to a CREATE DATABASE statement. Is there a normal way to do this as part of the database creation, or does it need to be specified on a table-by-table basis? Thanks, Monte

• LINQ OrderBy with more than one field

  I have a list that I need sorted by two fields. I've tried using OrderBy in LINQ but that only allows me to specify one field. I'm looking for the list to be sorted by the first field and then if there are any duplicates in the first field to sort by the second field. For example I want the results to look like this (sorted by last name then first name). Adams, John Smith, James Smith, Peter Thompson, Fred I've seen that you can use the SQL like syntax to accomplish this but I am looking for a way to do it with the OrderBy method. • Oracle 10g - Best way to escape single quotes

  I have to generate some update statements based off a table in our database. I created the following script which is generating the update statements I need. But when I try to run those scripts I am getting errors pertaining to unescaped single quotes in the content and &B, &T characters which have special meaning in oracle. I took care of the &B and &T problem by setting SET DEFINE OFF. Whats the best way to escape single quotes within the content? DECLARE CURSOR C1 IS SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES; BEGIN FOR I IN C1 LOOP DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('UPDATE EMPLOYEES SET FIRST_NAME= ''' || I.FIRST_NAME|| ''', LAST_NAME = ''' || I.LAST_NAME ''', DOB = ''' || I.DOB|| ''' WHERE EMPLOYEE_ID = ''' || I.EMPLOYEE_ID || ''';'); END LOOP; END; Here if the first_name or last_name contains single quotes then the generated update statements break. • Can I make controls defined in my markup public instead of protected

  Say I have a web site with a master page and an aspx page. In my ASPX page, I am pointing to my masterpage with the MasterType tag. <%@ MasterType VirtualPath="~/mymasterpage.master" % Say, I've defined a label in the markup of my master page. If you look at the designer code, this label should be something like this. protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label label1; Now in my content page, I would like to reference this label. If I type in this "Master.label1", the complier will complain that the control is inaccessible due to the protection level" and rightly so, as label1 is automatically defined as "protected". My question is, if I define controls in my markup page, is it possible to set these controls as public instead of protected? I do not see an attribute for it. thanks in advance.

• Sum of path products in DAG

  Suppose we have a DAG with edges labeled with numbers. Define the value of a path as the product of the labels. For each (source,sink)-pair I want to find the sum of the values of all the paths from source to sink. You can do this in polynomial time with dynamic programming, but there are still some choices that can be made in how you decompose the problem. In my case I have one DAG that has to be evaluated repeatedly with different labelings. My question is: for a given DAG, how can we pre-compute a good strategy for computing these values for different labelings repeatedly. It would be nice if there was an algorithm that finds an optimal way, for example a way that minimizes the number of multiplications. But perhaps this is too much to ask, I would be very happy with an algorithm that just gives a good decomposition.

  I posted this question early yesterday, but the thread seems to have died out. For reference, see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2619117/git-push-origin-master . Here's the low-down: I'm new to git. I just set up an account with github and I followed all their instructions flawlessly until I got to the last command of git push origin master Upon entering this command, I get the error message "fatal: No path specified. See 'man git-pull' for valid url syntax." If I type in git origin show the output I see is origin. If I type in git remote -n show the output is * remote origin URL: [email protected]: HEAD branch: (not queried) Local ref configured for 'git push' (status not queried): (matching) pushes to (matching) Please help me get to the bottom of this.

  Small question about C# language design :)) If I had an interface like this: interface IFoo { int Value { get; set; } } It's possible to explicitly implement such interface using C# 3.0 auto-implemented properties: sealed class Foo : IFoo { int IFoo.Value { get; set; } } But if I had an event in the interface: interface IFoo { event EventHandler Event; } And trying to explicitly implement it using field-like event: sealed class Foo : IFoo { event EventHandler IFoo.Event; } I will get the following compiler error: error CS0071: An explicit interface implementation of an event must use event accessor syntax I think that field-like events is the some kind of dualism for auto-implemented properties. So my question is: what is the design reason for such restriction done?

  Looking in the android sdk folders, I've found a file called values/config.xml. This seems to be somewhere that you can define values for later use in layouts and animations. Given the config.xml: <resources> <string name="config_somePadding">50dip</string> </resources> How would I reference this to use as the layout_height in a layout xml file? @string/config_somePadding is actually the only one I've found that doesn't throw an error in Eclipse (even though there isn't a config_somePadding in values/strings.xml), but it appears to just put an empty string.

  I'm trying to make a random image appear on the press of a button. So it generates a random number, and the switch algorithm swaps the chosen image with the one in the imgview. but I want a switch in the settings app to toggle which set of images to use. I know pretty much how to do it...it's just that it doesn't work. • Custom Grails Environments?

  I have been developing several Grails applications over the past couple of years. I am increasingly finding that the three grails environments (dev, test, prod) aren't enough to satisfy my needs. The more "enterprisey" your application gets, the more environments you tend to have. I tend to use 6 environments for my development cycle... DEVA //My dev DEVB //Team mates dev CI_TEST //CI like Hudson QA_TEST //Testing team environment UAT_TEST //Customers testing environment PROD //Production Im wondering if there is a way to define custom Grails environments? I dont think there is, but the feature could be handy. The way I am getting around this right now is by externalising the config to a properties file. Id imagine that this is a pretty common requirement, so how have you been dealing with your environments?

• Appengine not liking my .jspx files

  I have a little app that runs fine on local dev appengine, but appengine itself is not processing my .jspx files. The jspx files are in WEB-INF so they should not be excluded by appengine (as a static resource) I am using Apache Tiles to define my views. • Does C99 guarantee that arrays are contiguous ?

  Following an hot comment thread in another question, I came to debate of what is and what is not defined in C99 standard about C arrays. Basically when I define a 2D array like int a[5][5], does the standard C99 garantee or not that it will be a contiguous block of ints, can I cast it to (int *)a and be sure I will have a valid 1D array of 25 ints. As I understand the standard the above property is implicit in the sizeof definition and in pointer arithmetic, but others seems to disagree and says casting to (int*) the above structure give an undefined behavior (even if they agree that all existing implementations actually allocate contiguous values). More specifically, if we think an implementation that would instrument arrays to check array boundaries for all dimensions and return some kind of error when accessing 1D array, or does not give correct access to elements above 1st row. Could such implementation be standard compilant ? And in this case what parts of the C99 standard are relevant.

• jQuery .queue() not working as expected

Focus on the blue callout area with "Workers' Compensation" as the title: Basically, I've created a little slideshow there with the controls at the top and when you click on any of them both the callout and the background are to slide. As you can see it's working now, but the problem is that I want the new background to slide in over the old one. I've tried several things including the queue() method, delay(), and adding everything else to the animate() callback with no success (right now the background goes black and then the new image slides in). You guys have never let me down before, so I'm hoping this is an easy fix. Thanks in advance!

• How to maintain tabs when pasting in Vim

  I use the tab key to indent my python code in Vim, but whenever I copy and paste a block Vim replaces every tab with 4 spaces, which raises an IndentationError I tried setting :set paste as suggested in related questions but it makes no difference Other sites suggest pasting 'tabless' code and using the visual editor to re-indent, but this is asking for trouble when it comes to large blocks Are there any settings I can apply to vim to maintain tabs on copy/paste? I don't want to use primary key for the association (referencedColumnName).   Hello. Unfortunately, (written) midterms are necessary in most university CS programs in the world. They tell us how well our students (and ourselves as teachers) are doing. Needless to say, designing midterms for a C Programming Language course is not easy. For instance, when we do program for real, we have a myriad of information at our disposal: websites, books, cheat sheets to "remember" the syntax and so on. My question is this: did you find any way, during your years at school or training, where you said: ok, this midterm evaluation of my programming skills is tough, but fair. For instance: I found "find 5 problems with this code"-type questions hard but interesting and telling. Are there any others? Thanks.

• Java - binary compatibility of abstract class & subclasses

  In Java, I define an abstract class with both concrete and abstract methods in it, and it has to be subclassed independently by third-party developers. Just to be sure: are there any changes I could make to the abstract class that are source compatible with their classes but not binary compatible? In other words: after they have compiled their subclasses, could I change the abstract class - apart from e.g. adding an abstract method to it or removing a protected method from it that is called by subclasses, which are of course source incompatible - in a way that could force them to recompile their subclasses?

• WCF DataContract with readonly properties

  I'm trying to return a complex type from a service method in WCF. I'm using C# and .NET 4. This complex type is meant to be invariant (the same way .net strings are). Furthermore, the service only returns it and never recieves it as an argument. If I try to define only getters on properties I get a run time error. I guess this is because no setters causes serialization to fail. Still, I think this type should be invariant. Example: [DataContract] class A { [DataMember] int ReadOnlyProperty {get; private set;} } The service fails to load due to a problem with serialization. Is there a way to make readonly properties on a WCF DataContract? Perhaps by replacing the serializer? If so, how? If not, what would you suggest for this problem? Thanks, Asaf
