• Setting an delegate for the UIDatePicker animation?

  If I had a date picker within an action sheet and called the following line: [datePicker setDate:newDate animated:YES]; And then my app hides the action sheet the date picker is within, is there anyway to set up a animation delegate so that the user see's the animation of the date picker first and then hides the action sheet? I have done this with UIView's by calling: [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(METHOD)]; However I can not see anything like this for the date picker. • How do I force one method to be executed before another method?

  I've got 2 methods. One method starts playing an audio file (.mp3), the other method updates a UIToolBar to show a button (PLAY or PAUSE). These two methods are called in the following order: //Adds some UIBarButtonItems to a UIToolBar [self togglePlayer]; //Uses AVAudioPlayer [audioPlayer play]; I call the methods in the above order so that the (pause) button will be shown at the time the song starts playing. But, the problem is that the song starts playing first, and the UIToolBar remains unchanged for quite a while (from 2 to 5 secs) until the button is added and shown. What I want is for the button to be shown at the same time the song starts playing (i.e. NO DELAY). Is there any way to do this?

  One thing I love about ruby is that mostly it is a very readable language (which is great for self-documenting code) However, inspired by this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/609612/ruby-code-explained and the description of how ||= works in ruby, I was thinking about the ruby idioms I don't use, as frankly, I don't fully grok them. So my question is, similar to the example from the referenced question, what common, but not obvious, ruby idioms do I need to be aware of to be a truly proficient ruby programmer? By the way, from the referenced question a ||= b is equivalent to if a == nil || a == false a = b end (Thanks to Ian Terrell for the correction) Edit: It turns out this point is not totally uncontroversial. • cakePHP paginate with post data without sessions, serialization or post to get

  I have created a small search and filter form method post in controller/index, which posts to it self the conditions and fields to paginate ( $this-paginate($conditions) ) However that is good for the first page, the subsequent pages the filer conditions are lost. pagination passArgs supports get variables well. Is there an un complex way to pass the post conditions to the other paginated pages? The method I have looked at is pass the $conditions in session , which isnt without complexity of assigning session and unset the session on submitting the form again (more refinements to the filter criteria by the user ) The other method is passing the $conditions as serialized string url_encode as an get parameter. Is there an good cake way to do this more like passArgs, sessions and url encode do not look like cake style. Thanks

• iPhone app memory leak

  Any idea why this code gives me a memory leak? As you can see, I'm running out of ideas as to what I can do to stop it. • Autoresizing subclassed UITableViewCell subviews

  I've subclassed UITableViewCell and incorporated some subviews via the layoutSubviews method. All views are allocated and initiated in the initWithStyle method, and frames are set in the layoutSubviews method, like so: initWithStyle:... { UILabel *myLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; myLabel.someProperties = Configured; [self.contentView addSubview:myLabel]; layoutSubviews { CGRect labelRect = CGRectMake(10.0f, 5.0f, 35.0f, 180.0f); myLabel.frame = labelRect; Setting the shouldAutoRotateOrientation to YES in the viewController rotates the NavigationController, tableView and UIToolbar appropriately, but the contents of the tableViewCells don't move. I'm not clear on where or what to add as far as AutoResizingMasks. The combinations I've tried so far haven't done anything. Can someone give me a hand? Thanks!

• UITableView backgroundColor always grey on iPad

  Hi, When I set the backgroundColor for my UITableView it works fine on iPhone (device and simulator) but NOT on the iPad simulator. Instead I get a light grey background for any color I set including groupTableViewBackgroundColor. Steps to reproduce: Create a new navigation-based project. Open RootViewController.xib and set the table view style to "Grouped". Add this responder to the RootViewController:- (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; } Select Simulator SDK 3.2, build and run. You will get a black background (device and simulator). Select your target in the project tree. Click on Project : Upgrade Current Target for iPad. Build and run. You will get a light grey background. Revert the table view style to Plain and you will get a black background. Thanks for your help!

  Hi, I am getting a timeout exception when trying to use a net tcp endpoint through code that has no security and is streamed like so: NetTcpBinding binding = new NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.None); binding.TransferMode = TransferMode.Streamed; binding.SendTimeout = TimeSpan.MaxValue; the same code would work if i just leave out the SecurityMode.None or choose SecurityMode.Transport, the exception is on a timeout that is too low, i tired adding all the timeouts for recive, send, open, close and set them all to Max and that didnt work. im using sample code from: http://csharp-codesamples.com/2009/02/data-transfer-using-self-hosted-wcf-service/ Any explenation as to how to use no security in this scenario would be appriciated.   Hello, I use LINQ queries in my ASP.NET MVC application and want to use OutputCache in some of my Actions. I hear this should be possible with CommandNotifications. But those seem to only go for self-created SQLCommands, or am I wrong? Can I manually tell SQL server to send SQLDependency notifications if certain tables change? And if yes, how can I attach them to the OutputCache? Another side question: Can you do this with strongly types views too? Thank you in advance...

• How do I reduce the height of a TableView when it is constructed in IB?

  I wanted to add a view to the bottom of my screen. The controller is a UITableViewController, how do I shrink the tableView and add a extra view at the bottom of the tableview? I've tried setting the frame of self.tableView in different places (viewDidLoad, viewWillAppear etc) but nothing happens. The tableView is created by IB and not programtically. I've tried added a footer to my table view but that's not what I want, because the footer actually scrolls up, I want a static non moving View at the bottom of the screen.

  For some strange reason, the \n and \r escape sequences do not seem to be working in my code. I want to write each NSString on a new line of the file, but it just appends it the last string on one line. • Memory management, and async operations: when does an object become nil?

  I have a view that will be displaying downloaded images and text. I'd like to handle all the downloading asynchronously using ASIHTTPRequest, but I'm not sure how to go about notifying the view when downloads are finished... If I pass my view controller as the delegate of the ASIHTTPRequest, and then my view is destroyed (user navigates away) will it fail gracefully when it tries to message my view controller because the delegate is now nil? i.e. if i do this: UIViewController *myvc = [[UIViewController alloc] init]; request.delegate = myvc; [myvc release]; Do myvc, and request.delegate now == a pointer to nil? This is the problem with being self-taught... I'm kinda fuzzy on some basic concepts. Other ideas of how to handle this are welcome.
