• logging problems for swing applications

  what kind of logging frame work or API to use for swing applications which is used by multiple users in Unix. Is it possible to log all verbose/exception in one file per day or event one user one file per day? Since the user can open the same application with multiple instance. I also have another solution is to save the exceptions into database. But if I miss the excetpions, those will not be saved in DB. anybody has better solutions? Thank you very much!

  We are developing an application with Visual Studio 2008 and TFS. Our database is a MySQL DB. As we develop we keep the new queries that need to be applied to the database of our new release as the New Version Update Queries. Right now I'm keeping them in a simple text file (which is a painful task!). I know that TFS integrates with MSSQL and makes this job very easy. I've already asked our consultant from Microsoft if there is any way to integrate TFS and MySQL, and his answer was "NO". So I was wondering if anyone knows any smart way of handling this issue?

• DatabaseName.bak File Transfer Problem

  I have downloaded databasename.bak file from my hosting company, when i tried to restore that DB file in SQL server 2008 it is keep on giving me following error. The media family on device 'C:\go4sharepoint_1384_8481.bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3241) According to this error and from following link http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm Later when I tried to restore file on server it was restored correctly, but when I tried to transfer same file using FTP Software FileZila and tried to restore that downloaded file it was giving above error. That is file is getting corrupted on the way to tranfer using FTP. Any Idea how can i avoid that file to get courrupt? Note: File is downloaded using FileZila - TransferType as Binary. Thank you.

So I need from a scripting engine: Maximum Java interoperability (i.e. Spring framework) Script reloading and recompiling Easy DB access from scripting language Clear and simple syntax (some DSL capabilities would be nice to have), easy learning curve for non-hardcore developers Performance and stability I had some experience in the similar project with Rhino and it was pretty good. But I want to see if there is something better. Currently I'm looking into Groovy. JRuby and Jython are a bit more complex than I need for this task. Any other suggestion?   I would like to know how we can create different "user Roles" for different users in PHP. example: Administrator can create all types of users, add, view, manipulate data, delete managers, viewers, and workers, etc managers can only create, workers and viewers, can add and view data, workers can't create new users, but can only add data and view data, viewers can only view data that has been added to the DB by workers, managers and administrators. I though its better to use different sessions like : $_SESSION['admin'] $_SESSION['manager'] $_SESSION['worker'] $_SESSION['viewvers'] and for every page check which of them have a true or yes value, but I want to know how do they do it in real and big projects??? is there any other way???

• Merging MySQL Structure and Data

  I have a MySQL database running on a deployment machine which also contains data. Then I have another MySQL database which has evolved in terms of STRUCTURE + DATA for some time. I need a way to merge the changes (ONLY) for both structure and data to the DB in deployment machine without disturbing the existing data. Does anyone know of a tool available which can do this safely. I have had a look at a few comparison tools but I need a tool which can automate the merge operation. Note also that most of the data in the tables is in BINARY so I can't use many file comparison tools. Does any one know of a solution to this? thanks

  Hello - I am having trouble understanding the Phing documentation regarding multiple conditions for a given tag. It implies you cannot have multiple conditions unless you use the tag, but there are no examples of how to use it. Consequently I nested two tags, however I feel silly doing this when I know there is a better way. • Most efficient way to update a MySQL Database on a Linux host with that of an ASP.Net Form on Window

  My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this. I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site. There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!). What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient. I thought I would pick the best brains on SOF to get a different, efficient opinion. Thanks in advance guys...

  ATM i'm manually generating a cache key based on the method name and parameters, then follow to the normal cache pattern. My hosting provider assures me that ports are open for my server to connect to the DB. Looking at my php info, MSSQL Support is enabled, using FreeTDS.   Hey, I have an XML exported from Oracle DB, which will be downloaded into my application main bundle. i would like to convert this XML file into .plist file so i can assign the values into NSDictionary and NSArrays..   I am using GridView in asp .net and editing data with edit command field property (as we know after updating the edited row, we automatically update the database), and I want to use transactions (with begin to commit statement - including rollback) to commit this update query in database, after clicking in some button (after some events for example), not automatically to insert or update the edited data from grid directly to the DB...so I want to save them somewhere temporary (even many edited rows - not just one row) and then to confirm the transaction - to update the real tables in database... Any suggestions are welcomed... • PHP Serialization Will not work correctly.

  Hi, I am developing and doing all the testing on a local machine using PHP Version 5.3.3-1ubuntu9.1 version. The host machine is PHP Version 5.2.15. All the seriliaze arguments are identical. The problems is when i try to login the user on my test local machine i do the following : $user->getByUserId($results['id'],$db); $_SESSION['user'] = serialize($user); which retrieved me and serialize the user. and i just load it back when ever i detect that a session exists $user->LoadFromObject(unserialize($_SESSION['user'])); This works perfectly on my test machine. Just transfered the files on the host to see if i can get a beta version out but i keep on getting Warning: unserialize() expects parameter 1 to be string, object given in /home/gamerent/public_html/beta/includes/header.php on line 19 i have noticed that if i echo the $_SESSION['user'] in both system the test will indeed display me the serializated one but the main one will just show me the object and will not serialize the $user

  How can I use grails domain classes (which is in groovy) in service layer which is in Java/Spring. When using the grails MVC, everything is fine as I can use controller to access domain objects and call CRUD and other dynamic methods on them. But, what I am wondering is is there a clean way to do it from Java - say the service layer. For example, I may want to develop a reporting framework where I need to use domain objects to access the DB. I Hope the question is clear. This should be a standard problem that everybody must have faced in a reasonably sized project. I am just wondering how it is solved..maybe I am missing something here. thanks.

• SSIS - Can I get the column schema for a flat file source from a database?

  We receive a nightly data export from a vendor in the form of about 10 tab-delimited flat file without column headers. In addition, the vendor provides us with the SQL scripts for the database tables so that we can import the files into our system. Unfortunately, the vendor recently changed the schema for the flat files. Each file has upwards 150 columns, and having to go through the DB schema and adjust column types on a Flat File Data Source in SSIS is extremely time consuming, not to mention a royal pain. Since I know the file data layout in the database schema, is there any way I can dynamically pull that into a Flat File source to set the columns correctly? Or am I just stuck with manually setting everything?

  I'm planning to develop a PHP Web App, it will mainly be used by registered users(sessions) While thinking about the DB design, I was contemplating that in order to give the best user experience possible there would be lots of options for the user to activate, deactivate, specify, etc. For example: - Options for each layout elements, dialog boxes, dashboard, grid, etc. - color, size, stay visible, invisible, don't ask again, show everytime, advanced mode, simple mode, etc. This would get like 100s of fields ranging from simple Yes/No or 1 to N values..., for each user. So, is it having a field for each of these options the way to go? or how do those CRMs or CMS or other Web Apps do it to store lots of 1-2 char long values? Do they group them on Text fields separated by a special char and then "explode" them as an array for runtime usage? thank you

I think it is because it's an anonymous type but haven't got my head around it yet. Do I need to convert it to a list or something? The results would just be used for filling a combo box.

  Hi, In my website i have implemented custom session values. In which, on log on i set the session value to some object. This object is used to extract user specific data from db. now the problem is If user logs in with : test1.somesite.com and logs off and again logs in with: test2.somesite.com that user is still receiving the data from object specific to test1.somesite.com. the point is whichever site user frist logs in with the second time if he logs in with anathor subdomain he is always getting the data from previous sub domain login. on log out from specific domain i cleared all the sessions(tried everything): by putting HttpContext.session["UserDetail"] = null;, HttpContext.Session.Abandon() and also HttpContext.Session.Clear(); but nothing seems to work any help please

• Bitfield With 3 States...?

  I'm trying to create an authorization scheme for my ASP.NET MVC application where an Enum is used to set permissions. For example: [Flags] enum Permissions { ReadAppointments = 1, WriteAppointments = 2 | ReadAppointments, ReadPatients = 4, WritePatients = 8 | ReadPatients, ReadInvoices = 16, WriteInvoices = 32 | ReadInvoices ... } But I don't really like that because it really doesn't make it clear that Write always includes Read. I then realized that a requirement would be that a user might have NO access to, for example, Appointments. Essentially, I'd want a "bitfield" with 3 states: none, readonly, full (read/write). I'd like to still use an enum bitfield since it's easy to store in a DB (as an int). Also it's very easy to see if a permission is set. Does anyone have any idea how this could be easily accomplished using an Enum... or am I going in the completely wrong direction?
