  • AES Cipher Key Strength in BlackBerry

    - by Basilio
Hi All, I need to create an application that decrypts data that is encrypted using AES with a 512-bit key. What I need to know is whether we can create an AES key of length 512-bits? The documentation says we can create a key of length up to 256-bits. If that is the case, is there any way that I can add my own implementation for 512-bit AES key, or will I have to reduce the key strength used to encrypt the data originally? Thanks, Basilio

  • "pushModalScreen called by a non-event thread" thrown on event thread

    - by JGWeissman
I am trying to get my Blackberry application to display a custom modal dialog, and have the opening thread wait until the user closes the dialog screen. final Screen dialog = new FullScreen(); ...// Fields are added to dialog Application.getApplication().invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { public void run() { Application.getUiApplication().pushModalScreen(dialog); } }); This is throwing an Exception which says "pushModalScreen called by a non-event thread" despite the fact that I am using invokeAndWait to call pushModalScreen from the event thread. Any ideas about what the real problem is? Here is the code to duplicate this problem: package com.test; import net.rim.device.api.ui.*; import net.rim.device.api.ui.component.*; import net.rim.device.api.ui.container.*; public class Application extends UiApplication { public static void main(String[] args) { new Application(); } private Application() { new Thread() { public void run() { Application.this.enterEventDispatcher(); } }.start(); final Screen dialog = new FullScreen(); final ButtonField closeButton = new ButtonField("Close Dialog"); closeButton.setChangeListener(new FieldChangeListener() { public void fieldChanged(Field field, int context) { Application.getUiApplication().popScreen(dialog); } }); dialog.add(closeButton); Application.getApplication().invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { Application.getUiApplication().pushModalScreen(dialog); } catch (Exception e) { // To see the Exception in the debugger throw new RuntimeException(e.getMessage()); } } }); System.exit(0); } } I am using Component Package version 4.5.0.

  • Facebook Authentication only in Android and Blackberry?

    - by sunil
Hi, I have a mobile application and will like to have the authentication implemented either through the Application itself or through Facebook username and password. For example, if I have username and password of Facebook then one can login into the Application. I don't want to integrate the facebook completely only the authentication part. Is this possible? Hope to get a quick response. Regards Sunil

  • Which way of declaring a variable is fastest?

    - by ADB
For a variable used in a function that is called very often and for implementation in J2ME on a blackberry (if that changed something, can you explain)? class X { int i; public void someFunc(int j) { i = 0; while( i < j ){ [...] i++; } } } or class X { static int i; public void someFunc(int j) { i = 0; while( i < j ){ [...] i++; } } } or class X { public void someFunc(int j) { int i = 0; while( i < j ){ [...] i++; } } } I know there is a difference how a static versus non-static class variable is accessed, but I don't know it would affect the speed. I also remember reading somewhere that in-function variables may be accessed faster, but I don't know why and where I read that. Background on the question: some painting function in games are called excessively often and even small difference in access time can affect the overall performance when a variable is used in a largish loop.

  • XML: Process large data

    - by Atmocreations
Hello What XML-parser do you recommend for the following purpose: The XML-file (formatted, containing whitespaces) is around 800 MB. It mostly contains three types of tag (let's call them n, w and r). They have an attribute called id which i'd have to search for, as fast as possible. Removing attributes I don't need could save around 30%, maybe a bit more. First part for optimizing the second part: Is there any good tool (command line linux and windows if possible) to easily remove unused attributes in certain tags? I know that XSLT could be used. Or are there any easy alternatives? Also, I could split it into three files, one for each tag to gain speed for later parsing... Speed is not too important for this preparation of the data, of course it would be nice when it took rather minutes than hours. Second part: Once I have the data prepared, be it shortened or not, I should be able to search for the ID-attribute I was mentioning, this being time-critical. Estimations using wc -l tell me that there are around 3M N-tags and around 418K W-tags. The latter ones can contain up to approximately 20 subtags each. W-Tags also contain some, but they would be stripped away. "All I have to do" is navigating between tags containing certain id-attributes. Some tags have references to other id's, therefore giving me a tree, maybe even a graph. The original data is big (as mentioned), but the resultset shouldn't be too big as I only have to pick out certain elements. Now the question: What XML parsing library should I use for this kind of processing? I would use Java 6 in a first instance, with having in mind to be porting it to BlackBerry. Might it be useful to just create a flat file indexing the id's and pointing to an offset in the file? Is it even necessary to do the optimizations mentioned in the upper part? Or are there parser known to be quite as fast with the original data? Little note: To test, I took the id being on the very last line on the file and searching for the id using grep. This took around a minute on a Core 2 Duo. What happens if the file grows even bigger, let's say 5 GB? I appreciate any notice or recommendation. Thank you all very much in advance and regards

  • J2ME/Java: Referencing StringBuffer through Threads

    - by Jemuel Dalino
This question might be long, but I want to provide much information. Overview: I'm creating a Stock Quotes Ticker app for Blackberry. But I'm having problems with my StringBuffer that contains an individual Stock information. Process: My app connects to our server via SocketConnection. The server sends out a formatted set of strings that contains the latest Stock trade. So whenever a new trade happens, the server will send out an individual Stock Quote of that trade. Through an InputStream I am able to read that information and place each character in a StringBuffer that is referenced by Threads. By parsing based on char3 I am able to determine a set of stock quote/information. char1 - to separate data char3 - means end of a stock quote/information sample stock quote format sent out by our server: stock_quote_name(char 1)some_data(char1)some_data(char1)(char3) My app then parses that stock quote to compare certain data and formats it how it will look like when displayed in the screen. When trades happen gradually(slow) the app works perfectly. However.. Problem: When trades happen too quickly and almost at the same time, My app is not able to handle the information sent efficiently. The StringBuffer has its contents combined with the next trade. Meaning Two stock information in one StringBuffer. field should be: Stock_quote_name some_data some_data sample of what's happening: Stock_quote_name some_data some_dataStock_quote_name some_data some_data here's my code for this part: while (-1 != (data = is.read())) { sb.append((char)data); while(3 != (data = is.read())) { sb.append((char)data); } UiApplication.getUiApplication().invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { synchronized(UiApplication.getEventLock()) { SetStringBuffer(sb); DisplayStringBuffer(); RefreshStringBuffer(); } } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Error in setting stringbuffer: " + e.toString()); } } }); } public synchronized void DisplayStringBuffer() { try { //parse sb - string buffer ...... } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println("error in DisplayStringBuffer(): " + ex.toString()); } } public synchronized void SetStringBuffer(StringBuffer dataBuffer) { this.sb =dataBuffer; System.out.println(sb); } public synchronized void RefreshStringBuffer() { this.sb.delete(0, this.sb.length()); } From what I can see, when trades happen very fast, The StringBuffer is not refreshed immediately and still has the contents of the previous trade, when i try to put new data. My Question is: Do you guys have any suggestion on how i can put data into the StringBuffer, without the next information being appended to the first content

  • [NSIS] Custom radio-buttom INI page via Eclipse

    - by Omegazero
I'm using Eclipse's create InstallOptions menu to create a custom INI page with radio-buttons for repackaging the Blackberry Desktop installer. There are 2 sections for each type: "Internet" and "Enterprise". I need a user to select 1 of the 2 options and depending on their selection, the page will carry over the selection chosen in the custom page, jump to the INSTFILES page, and continue onto the end. I couldn't find any concrete documentation on getting INI pages to load in the script (I'm probably searching incorrectly), and then pass data from one page to the next (according to fields I guess?) Any help is appreciated. Even if it's to tell me I'm blind and can't read a doc (though a link would help :) ) Here's the INI code: ; Auto-generated by EclipseNSIS InstallOptions Script Wizard ; Jul 29, 2009 5:42:56 PM [Settings] NumFields=7 Title=RIM BlackBerry Desktop 5.0 installation CancelEnabled=1 [Field 1] Type=RadioButton Left=15 Top=28 Right=100 Bottom=38 Text=Internet State= Flags=NOTIFY [Field 4] Type=RadioButton Left=15 Top=95 Right=100 Bottom=105 Text=Enterprise Flags=NOTIFY [Field 2] Type=GroupBox Left=0 Top=10 Right=300 Bottom=75 Text= [Field 5] Type=Label Left=30 Top=42 Right=235 Bottom=52 Text=For users who are NOT on the Enterprise (Exchange) server [Field 6] Type=Label Left=30 Top=111 Right=235 Bottom=121 Text=Choose this only if you are on the Exchange server [Field 3] Type=GroupBox Left=0 Top=75 Right=300 Bottom=140 [Field 7] Type=Label Left=0 Top=0 Right=130 Bottom=10 Text=Please choose your installation method ...And here's the NSI code: Auto-generated by EclipseNSIS Script Wizard Jul 29, 2009 5:42:16 PM Name "BlackBerry Desktop" RequestExecutionLevel admin General Symbol Definitions !define VERSION 5.0.0.11 !define COMPANY RIM !define URL http://www.blackberry.com MUI Symbol Definitions !define MUI_ICON BBD.ico !define MUI_LICENSEPAGE_RADIOBUTTONS Included files !include Sections.nsh !include MUI2.nsh Reserved Files ReserveFile "${NSISDIR}\Plugins\AdvSplash.dll" Installer pages !insertmacro MUI_PAGE_WELCOME !insertmacro MUI_PAGE_LICENSE license.txt !insertmacro MUI_PAGE_COMPONENTS !insertmacro MUI_PAGE_INSTFILES !insertmacro MUI_PAGE_FINISH Installer languages !insertmacro MUI_LANGUAGE English Installer attributes OutFile RIM_BlackBerry_Desktop_5.0.exe InstallDir "$TEMP\RIM BlackBerry Desktop 5.0 Setup Files" CRCCheck on XPStyle on ShowInstDetails hide VIProductVersion 5.0.0.11 VIAddVersionKey /LANG=${LANG_ENGLISH} ProductName "BlackBerry Desktop" VIAddVersionKey /LANG=${LANG_ENGLISH} ProductVersion "${VERSION}" VIAddVersionKey /LANG=${LANG_ENGLISH} CompanyName "${COMPANY}" VIAddVersionKey /LANG=${LANG_ENGLISH} CompanyWebsite "${URL}" VIAddVersionKey /LANG=${LANG_ENGLISH} FileVersion "${VERSION}" VIAddVersionKey /LANG=${LANG_ENGLISH} FileDescription "" VIAddVersionKey /LANG=${LANG_ENGLISH} LegalCopyright "" Installer sections Section /o Main SEC0000 SetOutPath $INSTDIR SetOverwrite ifdiff ; TESTING PHASE SectionEnd SectionGroup /e "BlackBerry Desktop Section" Section /o Internet SEC0001 SetOutPath $INSTDIR\DRIVERS SetOverwrite ifdiff ; Execwait 'msiexec /i "$INSTDIR\BlackBerry USB and Modem Drivers_ENG (DM5.0b28).msi" /passive' SetOutPath $INSTDIR SetOverwrite ifdiff ; File /r * ; ExecWait '"$INSTDIR\Setup.exe" /S/v/qb!' • creating a custom centered cyclic horizontal manager

    - by Hezi
Trying to create a custom cyclical horizontal manager which will work as follows. It will control several field buttons where the buttons will always be positioned so that the focused button will be in the middle of the screen. As it is a cyclical manager once the focus moves to the right or left button, it will move to the center of the screen and all the buttons will move accordingly (and the last button will become the first to give it an cyclic and endless list feeling) Any idea how to address this? I tried doing this by implementing a custom manager which aligns the buttons according to the required layout. Each time moveFocus() is called I remove all fields (deleteAll() ) and add them again in the right order. Unfortunately this does not work.

  • kXML (XmlPullParser) not hitting END_TAG

    - by Tejaswi Yerukalapudi
    Hello all, I'm trying to figure out a way to rewrite some of my XML parsing code. I'm currently working with kXML2 and here's my code - byte[] xmlByteArray; try { xmlByteArray = inputByteArray; ByteArrayInputStream xmlStream = new ByteArrayInputStream(xmlByteArray); InputStreamReader xmlReader = new InputStreamReader(xmlStream); KXmlParser parser = new KXmlParser(); parser.setInput(xmlReader); parser.nextTag(); while(true) { int eventType = parser.next(); String tag = parser.getName(); if(eventType == XmlPullParser.START_TAG) { System.out.println("****************** STARTING TAG "+tag+"******************"); if(tag == null || tag.equalsIgnoreCase("")) { continue; } else if(tag.equalsIgnoreCase("Category")) { // Gets the name of the category. String attribValue = parser.getAttributeValue(0); } } if(eventType == XmlPullParser.END_TAG) { System.out.println("****************** ENDING TAG "+tag+"******************"); } else if(eventType == XmlPullParser.END_DOCUMENT) { break; } } catch(Exception ex) { } My input XML is as follows - <root xmlns:sql="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xml-sql" xmlns=""> <Category name="xyz"> <elmt1>value1</elmt1> <elmt2>value2</elmt2> </Category> <Category name="abc"> <elmt1>value1</elmt1> <elmt2>value2</elmt2> </Category> <Category name="def"> <elmt1>value1</elmt1> <elmt2>value2</elmt2> </Category> My problem briefly is, I'm expecting it to hit XmlPullParser.END_TAG when it encounters a closing xml tag. It does hit the XmlPullParser.START_TAG but it just seems to skip / ignore all the END_TAGs. Is this how is it's supposed to work? Or am I missing something? Any help is much appreciated, Teja.

  • Customized listfield with image displaying from a url

I am displaying a customized list field with text on the right side and image on the left side. The image comes from a URL dynamically.Initially i am placing a blank image on the left of the list field, then call URLBitmapField class's setURL method, which actually does the processing and places the processed image on top of the blank image. The image gets displayed on the list field, but to see that processed image i need to press any key or click on the list field items.I want the processed image to be displayed automatically in the list field after the processing. Can anyone tell me where i am getting wrong?
