• Using jQuery to rapidly scroll through a countdown

  I have a webpage that displays the number 0, and when the user presses "start", the number should rapidly increasing until it reaches a target number (maybe 10,000 or so) a few seconds later. I'd like the numbers to scroll by as if they're on a slot machine wheel. I've managed to mostly hack something together using the ScrollTo plugin, but it's slow and choppy. It always stops briefly at certain divs along the way. Perhaps I'm using it wrong. Is there a better way to accomplish such an effect?

• Toggle problem pls help me

  Hy I am a uber nube to jquery my question is like this: if I have multiple toggle on same page and the div I`m toggleing must be desplayed in the same div. For example I have in div 'box' 6 divs named '1' '2' '3' '4' etc and all are hiden if I click on a 'a' tag named 1 it will display content div 1 in div 'box' if I click tag 'a' named 2 will display content div 2 in box and hide div 1 etc. My problem is that I havent been able to hide div 1 if div 2 is show This is my code $(document).ready(function(){ $('#content1').hide(); $('#content').hide(); $('a.aici').click(function(){ $('#content1').toggle('slow'); }); $('a.acolo').click(function(){ $('#content').toggle('slow'); }); }); I need an if function to hide all except the div that is shown Thx for your time

• CSS Make one row the width of another

  I'm sure this is a fairly common problem but I'm new to CSS so I'm not sure how it's done. I tried searching for the issue but sometimes it's tricky to get the right keywords. I have a table the width of which I want to be constrained by a specific row. My table css is as follows; table { border: 1px solid #ccc; width: auto; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } I have one row which contains cells for which I want the width to autofit and two rows of prose which currently force the table to take 100% width. How do I constrain the latter to have at most the autofit width of the first row? If tables aren't the way to go and this should be pure css and divs, how do you get one class to adopt the fixed but unknown width of another? Thanks, Gav

• Javascript Onclicks not working?

  I have a jQuery application which finds a specific div, and edit's its inner HTML. As it does this, it adds several divs with onclicks designed to call a function in my JS. For some strange reason, clicking on these never works if I have a function defined in my code set to activate. However, it works fine when calling "alert("Testing");". I am quite bewildered at this as I have in the past been able to make code-generated onclicks work just fine. The only thing new here is jQuery.

• Web design process with CSS - during or after?

  Which is the better practice? Add CSS during web designing you can see the result (or close) as early as possible and make required changes. You also know how many divs or spans you might need (eg to make curved cross-browser hover background). But as you add more and more components to the page sometimes things get hack-ish as you need to patch here and there to get the exact design required. Add CSS after finishing page design you can see the page overall structure as it is well, without styles. You get to see how accessible your site is, and modify it right away if it's not good enough (unlike the former case where you may break multiple CSS rules). Plus after you finished it, you only need to spend most of the time to alter only the CSS file, which is good to get the momentum going. Granted I have never tried the latter approach, but am seriously considering it for my next project if I can see convincing reasons -- or if it's no good at all. Thanks.

• How do you make an in-place construction of a struct casted to array compile in Visual C++ 2008?

  I'm working with quite a big codebase which compiles fine in linux but vc++ 2008 spits errors. The problem code goes like this: Declaration: typedef float vec_t; typedef vec_t vec2_t[2]; The codebase is littered with in-place construction like this one: (vec2_t){0, divs} Or more complex: (vec2_t){ 1/(float)Vid_GetScreenW(), 1/(float)Vid_GetScreenH()} As far as I know, this code constructs a struct, then converts it to an array and passes the address to the function. I personally never used in-place construction like this so I have no clue how to make this one work. I don't maintain the linux build, only the windows one. And I can't get it to compile. Is there some switch, some macro to make vc++ compile it? Maybe there is a similar nifty way to construct those arrays and pass them to the functions in-place that compiles just fine in vc++?

  I've been using this snippet of jQuery to get a sticky footer: if($(document.body).height() < $(window).height()){ $("#footer").css({position: "absolute",top:($(window).scrollTop()+$(window).height()-$("#footer").height())+"px", width: "100%"}); } $(window).scroll(positionFooter).resize(positionFooter); However, that breaks when I've got expandable/collapsible divs lying around where the original content was less high than the window, since it is then stuck to the bottom of the window, rather than the bottom of the document. Is there a way of fixing this, or a better way of doing it? Please bear in mind that I don't have much control over the HTML, since I need to do this in Django's admin interface, which doesn't allow much injection of HTML in the places you might want to to accomplish this sort of thing (i.e. this answer and this answer don't work for me).

• Scrollable display of multiple video icons

  Hello, I want to have multiple video icons at the top my website's front page. I will have about 20 or so which won't fit on one line (I want to keep the videos on one like) so I thought of having two button on the right of the group and on the left of the group where you click to scroll and view more videos. Do you know an easy way to do this? I can pass in the video links from the server in different Divs or anyway that will make it easy. I thought of using AJAX and pass it different set every time from the server with every click (I'm using Rails and it's fairly easy to do it) but that will be an extra load on the server which I'm trying to avoid. I'd rather send all the icons at once and let the JavaScript handle the scrolling. I thought of using iFrame but I don't like the idea of scrollbar and wanted to be more like button Any ideas? • How do you move html from one div to another with Jquery without breaking javascript

  I have two divs for different sections of my webpage, a working and a reference section. One is fixed size, the other is variable sized and they are vertically stacked. I am trying to design it so that if you want to work on something in the reference pane, you click a link and it swaps all the data between the two panes. My idea was to do the following: var working = $("#working_pane").html(); var ref = $("#reference_pane").html(); $("#working_pane").html(ref); $("#reference_pane").html(working); The problem with this, is it seems that any javascript referenced inside of these panes (for example, in place editors) get broken upon switching. No javascript errors occur, it's just that nothing happens, like the javascript ties are broken. Is there any to move the html without breaking the javascript contained?

• Jquery UI Dialog Weird Behavior in Firefox - Whole screen becomes non-clickable on second overlay

  I have two links that show up two modal dialogs. These dialogs are static divs in the html of the page with their own ids. When I click the first link, the first dialog shows up and behaves correctly. But when I click the second link, the whole screen grays out and everything becomes unclickable, including the second dialog. It happens also the other way around, clicking the second link, and then the first link. This problems occurs only in Firefox but not in IE. Any ideas why this is happening in Firefox?

• JQuery Tooltip and Scrollable Fix

  I have set up the navigation on my site using a scrollable div created with Flowplayer's JQuery tools. I also want to add a tooltip to the individual images within the scrollable div. The problem is the tooltip needs to appear outside of the div. I can adjust the height of the div so you can see the tooltip, but the tooltip is still constrained inside another div.   I love using HAML for HTML documents. It has clean syntax that's much more attractive than ERB. It works perfectly for HTML documents. What about for non-HTML? Such as, for example, an email or text document with certain automatically-substituted components? I've been falling back to ERB, but don't like the heavy syntax compared to HAML. Is there any way to use HAML for ordinary documents without having divs and html elements appear when % and . start a line? Or is there some alternative to both HAML and ERB that I should investigate?

• Chaining jQuery animations using recursion crashes browser

  Here's the basic idea of what I'm trying to do: Set the innerHTML of a DIV to some value X Animate the DIV When the animation finishes, change the value of X and repeat N times If I do this in a loop, what ends up happening is, because the animations occur asynchronously, the loop finishes and the DIV is set to its final value before the animations have had a chance to run for each value of X. As this question notes, the best way to solve this problem is to make a recursive call to the function in the callback handler for the animation. This way the value of the DIV doesn't change until the animation of the previous value is complete. This works perfectly...to a point. If I animate a bunch of these DIVs at the same time, my browser gets overwhelmed and crashes. Too much recursion. Can anyone think of a way to do this without using recursion?

• Multiple classes in body tag, multi-dimensional css structure or blueprint for insanity?

  This question is about an approach to css structuring, and so is more discussion oriented. I'm working with some outsourced css where the body tags have multiple classes assigned, up to half a dozen. (To make things a little worse, none of the css selectors include an html tag which is making it confusing to analyze the css.) These body classes are then used to modify classed or id'd widgets within. It seems like this approach is like adding an additional dimension to the css, perhaps in some attempt to create a structured css approach. Documentation might have helped, had we been provided any. This differs from my approach where widgets are styled primarily via id'd divs, perhaps extracting the more generic elements into a class, i.e. div#MyWidget.widgets. Any ideas on whether such an approach is maintainable, especially considering I am dealing with websites with thousands of pages including tons of legacy stuff, all done by different people with different skill levels? • IE7 ignoring margin in a div following an absolute positioned div

  I have two divs inside a container, the first one has absolute positioning. In ie7, the second div apparently ignores the top margin. Padding seems to work fine, but for visual reasons I have to use margin. I know the culprit is the absolute positioned div because if i remove it the following div works fine. This is only happening in ie7 (not even in ie6). Help! Edit: I just found a solution which consists of giving the parent div padding-top just for ie7. So I would just like to know why does this happen, and if there is one, a cleaner solution, but I dont need more dirty hacks..

• Get the entire string of a jquery DOM object

  Hi, I have had a bit of a look around and am having some difficulty solving a wee issue I am having. I basically have a string of HTML, I convert that to a JQuery DOM object so that I can easily remove all elements that have a certain class using JQuery's .remove(). I.e., var radHtml = editor.get_html(); var jqDom = $(radHtml); $(".thickbox", jqDom).remove(); editor.set_html(jqDom.html()); The only problem is that .html() only gets the first element, not the entire DOM. In reference to my code I am basically wanting radHhtml - elements with class "thickbox" (returned as string). I was wondering if there was an easy way to do this - have some html and remove all elements (in this case divs) that have a certain class (but leaving their contents). JQuery doesnt have to used, but I would like to. Any help would be much appreicated. Thanks.

I need to be able to drag and reschedule appointments appropriately. jQuery-ui is pretty neat and I am able to achieve almost everything except that I require that no appointments (divs) may overlap.   I'll try to explain this as best I can. I have multiple divs that are fixed-width but variable height. I want to float these boxes into two columns inside a fixed-width container. What happens when a give them all a float: left value, I get something like this: ######### ######### # box 1 # # box 2 # ######### # ..... # ......... # ..... # ......... ######### ######### ######### # box 3 # # box 4 # # ..... # # ..... # ######### ######### ######### ######### # box 5 # # box 6 # # ..... # ######### # ..... # ######### (The periods are white space) What I really would really like is the top of box 3 to touch the bottom of box 1. Any easy way to acheive this?

• Changing the HTML of CKEditor form elements (in the dialog window)

  I'm trying to modify the HTML of the dialog boxes in CKEditor. The HTML inside each of those boxes is an absolute nightmare, and even worse, the source code is compressed and it's unclear what the path of execution is. I want to take something like this: <div class="cke_dialog_ui_select" id="44_uiElement" role="presentation"><label style="" for="42_select" id="43_label" class="cke_dialog_ui_labeled_label">Link Type</label><div role="presentation" class="cke_dialog_ui_labeled_content"><select aria-labelledby="43_label" class="cke_dialog_ui_input_select" id="42_select"><option value="url"> URL</option><option value="anchor"> Link to anchor in the text</option><option value="email"> E-mail</option></select></div></div> and turn it into something more legible and easier to style, removing one of the divs. These are for the Image and Anchor dialog boxes (Modal dialogues) respectively. • Closest previous element with certain ID (with prev())?

  I have a big div wit a lot of smaller divs within it. Say, <div id="parent"> <div id="child1"> </div> <div id="child1"> </div> <div id="child2"> </div> <div id="child1"> </div> <div id="child1"> </div> </div> If I'm currently at the last 'child1', how dow I get to the top most child1 with prev()? For me it breaks when it reaches 'child2'.
