The idea is that you provide some input (a word(s)) and it comes up with synonyms, rhyming words, etc. Ideally, I'd want to have some confidence that they aren't just registering all the domains I come up with.

  The BBC is reporting that domain registration will be changing next year. The .co landgrab could be one of the last before ICANN overhauls the way net addresses are assigned. Next year the body is due to open up the system so that companies and individuals can register any name they want. I haven't heard anything about a change—is the BBC correct, and if so, what are the details?

  I use only free servers and after creating my website: http://pundaquit.republika.pl I decided to make access to that domain by simple domain name . I decided to use domain alias http://notlong.com/ service and have simple domain name http://pundaquit.notlong.com The second advantage of using alias here was to be independant from my file host which I will have to change. I haven't found a better alias service like notlong, because notlong.com is easy to remember. After that I encounter many problems: * most of forums or social services treat notlong adress as a spam, * Bing so far hvn't accepted http://pundaquit.notlong.com domain and others. Is it another way to have good free domain name? How about the situation when your hosting server will inform you to expire? Only a lasting layer of domain aliases make you independant from the real file hosts.

• The danger of changing the domain of your portfolio

  So I have a online portfolio that is available at mervin-ux-portfolio.com but I am planning to change hosts since the current host I am hosting it with is hitting me with a very high yearly renewal rate. When I was inquiring about domain transfers ,,they told me that since I had not initiated the domain transfer within 14 days of the expiry of the domain ,they cannot do it immediately and it would take about two weeks to to release the domain name. Since I dont like the idea of my site being down for like 2 weeks ,I was wondering if I should start afresh with a new domain on a new host and what were the potential dangers of that ( I have the entire site backup,so creating a replica of the site on the new host wont be hard) I also wont be losing any business or work since I work full time currently but I was just wondering about the challenges in terms of getting my domain name back to the top of search results and basically getting it out there assuming I go the new domain name approach. I know this is strictly not an UX question but I was hoping people could give some suggestions on what I should do

• 301 redirects mirrored domain

  I'm redesigning a site for a friend on my localhost. His old site is an .asp based site and we're replacing it with a WordPress site on LAMP hosting. The old site sits on domain A and also has another domain, domain B parked on top of it mirroring it. Google has picked up domain B for most of his search engine results and yahoo and bing etc have picked up domain A. The plan is to 301 redirect the the old pages of his site on domain A to the new WordPress versions and park domain B on top of it like before. My question is, will this work, if not what would be a better way to approach it? We'd prefer not to lose any of the search engine listings in the redesign, and the search engines don't appear to have penalized him for duplicate content. Thanks very much in advance!

  at present when i google the domain name of the wordpress sites i have worked on i receive at least three listings(often the top three. The first listing is the only one i am interested in seeing, others appear from individual pages from that wordpress site i.e. 1st hit - www.domain.com 2nd hit www.domain.com/about 3rd hit www.domain.com/designers . Does anybody know if its possible to remove all the links but the absoloute www.domain.com

  I have defined a host in my CPanel\WHM server and put all my websites under one host account. The host Main Domain is domain.com, and all other websites are Add-on Domains: domain.com --folder --domain1 --domain2 --domain3 ... The thing I need is that when calling domain.com in browser, the server read files from another folder. for example when call http://domain.com it shows us http://domain.com/folder BUT I don't mean a redirection, I want server do this in background without showing visitors the real path. I couldn't do this with Domain WildCard Redirection because it got error. How can I do this? With htaccess or ... ?

• Running an Application on a Different Domain

  Were I am contracting at right now has a new development domain.  Because of IT security rules it is fairly isolated from the domain my computer normally logs into (for e-mail and such).  I do use a VM to log directly into the domain but one of my co-workers found this command to run things on your box but in the other domain.  Pretty cool. For example this runs SQL Server Management Tool for SQL Server 2008: runas /netonly /user:{domain}\{username} "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\ssms.exe" And this runs visual studios: runas /netonly /user:{domain}\{username} "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" It does not solve the problem I wanted to solve which would be to be able to assign Users/Groups in Team Explorer.  It instead still uses the domain I am logged into's groups.

• BAD DC transfering FSMO Roles to ADC

  I have a DC (FQDN:server.icmcpk.local) and an ADC (FQDN:file-server.icmcpk.local). Recently my DC is facing a bad sector problem so I changed the Operation Masters to file-server for all five roles. but when ever i turn off the OLD DC the file-server also stops wroking with AD and GPMC further i m also unable to join any other computer to this domain. For Test purpose i also added a new ADC (FQDN:wds-server.icmcpk.local) but no succes with the old DC off i had to turn the old DC on and then joined it. I m attaching the Dcdiags for all three servers. • Domains propagation issues.

  Hello to all. I got very strange issue, really weird. On weekend, May 9th I changed my server location from US to UK. Of course, everything works correctly excluding domains. There's something wrong. I got few domains on this server but I still cannot access them. When I try from the other location it works correctly. The most funny situation is that everything is working correctly from my girlfriend's work, about 500 meters from our house, but they have another ISP. It also works when I access the domains via proxy server. I checked who.is informations and everything seems to be working. On Sunday and today morning I was able to access my domains but only for a while. When I refreshed website second time I got error "Firefox was not able to connect server". Since then I'm still getting this error. Could it be my ISP fault? Regards, Andrew

  So. I currently have a steering wheel connected to my htpc. Since it wont work / get recognized by all games i play. I use xpadder to play for example Grid 3. As far as i have understood, it simply presses the associated arrow key when i turn the wheel. What i would like, is a software to simulate more and more frequent key presses of the arrow keys the more i turn the wheel. Example: Tilting a little - 100 presses / second Tilting more - 200 presses / second Tilting max - Hold down key Because what i currently do with the wheel is constantly shaking it a bit right, when i just want to turn a little bit right and so on.   When I create a new Domain Controller with dcpromo then the wizard will also add a DNS Role to the server because the first domain controller must be the global catalog server for the forest. After the install when I look at the DNS then I see the forward lookup zone for the newly created domain. However no zone is created for the Reverse lookup zone. So my question is: Is this an advisable endresult or not? In other words is it a good idea to add my domain to the reverse lookup zone as well? Just curious to hear how other people use this zone in the domain controller. Thanks

• Site name questions [closed]

  I'm creating a website on German cars. No issues with it, since it's basically a PHP site, and let's say for the sake of argument, there are no server issues. However, I plan to call it "autohaus" (well, for the sake of this scenario anyway, it's not its actual name) The site is not for commercial gain; it's a fansite. Legally, can I use a name for a website if it's a commonly-used one - "autohaus" appears to be this. There are other sites called "Autohaus" but could someone use a similar name for non-commercial, information/educational use? Basically, what's the copyright law for such a situation? Currently my site is only on localhost for now, but what if I did want to release it to the web? Obviously the legal issues have to be taken into account before the site goes live, but there's no Data Protection Act. etc. since it's not selling anything, and no-one's buying anything, and the pictures in it are being used educationally (but that's for another question entirely)] [NOTE: This question is on trademark/names etc. not domains]

  The XP Pro workstations do not see the new replacement domain upon boot; they only see their cached entry for the old (server 2003) domain controller. The old_server is not connected to the network. I have DHCP working with the same scope as the old_server. The DC netbios is city01 while the domain's FQDN is city.domain.org (I think this is mistaken and should have been just domain.org) But, the second link led me to a post which I believe answers my question. I did as they instructed by opening Local Area Connection Properties, then selecting TCP/IPv4 and setting the sole preferred DNS server to the local hosts static IP (10.10.1.1). I am hoping to reach the point where I can define users and user groups. Also, does TechNet have a single theoretical overview document I could read. I really don't like treating comps as magic. • How to run a website domain without redirecting if IP is already used for another website? [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: Hosting multiple distinct folders for distinct domains 1 answer I bought a VPS Host that gave me only 1 IP Address which I used on my first domain name and it works without any problems. Now my second domain name I can't use the same ip address as it points to the first domain name. So I figured my only option was to use a GoDaddy hosted iframe redirection which redirects to a sub folder on my first domain which worked so far. Now I'm trying to load paypal from <?php headers() ?> and I get a permission error because of that iframe Refused to display 'https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?notify_url=&cmd=_cart&upload=1&business=removed&address_override=1' in a frame because it set 'X-Frame-Options' to 'SAMEORIGIN'. How do I avoid the Iframe solution for my second domain while not messing up my first domain? Somebody I forgot once told me it doesn't matter if you have 1 IP Address you could host multiple websites on it? how it that possible the DNS doesn't seem to work off ports afaik, yes I could host multiple websites on different folders but that's not what I call hosting a real website it has to be pointed by a domain name, so this iframe issue doesn't happen My server configuration is httpd (apache) that comes with CentOS 6 (Linux) operating system

• Internet Explorer and Cookie Domains

  I've been bitten by some nasty issues today in regards to using a domain cookie as part of my FormsAuthentication operations. In the app I'm currently working on we need to have single sign-on that spans multiple sub-domains (www.domain.com, store.domain.com, mail.domain.com etc.). That's what a domain cookie is meant for - when you set the cookie with a Domain value of the base domain the cookie stays valid for all sub-domains. I've been testing the app for quite a while and everything is working great. Finally I get around to checking the app with Internet Explorer and I start discovering some problems - specifically on my local machine using localhost. It appears that Internet Explorer (all versions) doesn't allow you to specify a domain of localhost, a local IP address or machine name. When you do, Internet Explorer simply ignores the cookie. In my last post I talked about some generic code I created to basically parse out the base domain from the current URL so a domain cookie would automatically used using this code:private void IssueAuthTicket(UserState userState, bool rememberMe) { FormsAuthenticationTicket ticket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(1, userState.UserId, DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now.AddDays(10), rememberMe, userState.ToString()); string ticketString = FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(ticket); HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, ticketString); cookie.HttpOnly = true; if (rememberMe) cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(10); var domain = Request.Url.GetBaseDomain(); if (domain != Request.Url.DnsSafeHost) cookie.Domain = domain; HttpContext.Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); } This code works fine on all browsers but Internet Explorer both locally and on full domains. And it also works fine for Internet Explorer with actual 'real' domains. However, this code fails silently for IE when the domain is localhost or any other local address. In that case Internet Explorer simply refuses to accept the cookie and fails to log in. Argh! The end result is that the solution above trying to automatically parse the base domain won't work as local addresses end up failing. Configuration Setting Given this screwed up state of affairs, the best solution to handle this is a configuration setting. Forms Authentication actually has a domain key that can be set for FormsAuthentication so that's natural choice for the storing the domain name: <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="~/Account/Login" name="gnc" domain="mydomain.com" slidingExpiration="true" timeout="30" xdt:Transform="Replace"/> </authentication> Although I'm not actually letting FormsAuth set my cookie directly I can still access the domain name from the static FormsAuthentication.CookieDomain property, by changing the domain assignment code to:if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(FormsAuthentication.CookieDomain)) cookie.Domain = FormsAuthentication.CookieDomain; The key is to only set the domain when actually running on a full authority, and leaving the domain key blank on the local machine to avoid the local address debacle. Note if you want to see this fail with IE, set the domain to domain="localhost" and watch in Fiddler what happens. Logging Out When specifying a domain key for a login it's also vitally important that that same domain key is used when logging out. Forms Authentication will do this automatically for you when the domain is set and you use FormsAuthentication.SignOut(). If you use an explicit Cookie to manage your logins or other persistant value, make sure that when you log out you also specify the domain. IOW, the expiring cookie you set for a 'logout' should match the same settings - name, path, domain - as the cookie you used to set the value.HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie("gne", ""); cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(-5); // make sure we use the same logic to release cookie var domain = Request.Url.GetBaseDomain(); if (domain != Request.Url.DnsSafeHost) cookie.Domain = domain; HttpContext.Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); I managed to get my code to do what I needed it to, but man I'm getting so sick and tired of fixing IE only bugs. • Push/Present Modal View Controller

  I have a table in my view controller (let's call it TVC1). I have rows in TVC1 that are used so the user can input some more data in addition to the data on TVC1. So, when someone taps a specific row in TVC1, it will show another view controller (let's call it TVC2). However, when TVC2 is shown, all of the data in TVC1 is cleared. How can I save the data in TVC1? Should I do it through the app delegate? • Kohana3 Route with Subdirectories in Controller Folder

  Hello everybody I'm using Kohana for so long, but the new Version is a litte bit other. My problem with an example: classes/ controller/ pages.php pages/ imprint.php I want to change my Route so, that if i call domain.tld/pages, the pages.php should called with action_index(). But if i call domain.tld/pages/imprint, pages/imprint.php should called with action_index() (and this should work too: pages/imprint/demo - action_demo() in pages/imprint.php) Tried this with bootstrap and http://kohanaframework.org/guide/api/Route this examples, but cant get it work. • General website publishing questions involving domain forwarding issue

  Even though I have been having a certain level of knowledge and experience about web development I have never interested in obtaining a domain and publishing a website from my own server. Since today I have been struggling with getting my own domain and configuring it utilizing web sources. I started with learning the outline of web publishing process including web server installation, deploying a website for testing purpose,router port forwarding, getting a domain and forwarding domain to my router which will also forward http requests to my web server I am confused about some parts and so far could not get the web site accessed from outside of the network. All I try to do is just for learning purpose so I do not pay much attention to security issues for now. I have Server 2008 and IIS 7.5 installed. I use a laptop and have access to the modem over wireless and my modem is Zoom x6 5590. Well I will continue explaining what I have done so far and what I think will be after each action I did, I have successfully had access to my website on any local computer entering the internal ip address and port pair of the host machine in a browser. Next, I forwarded port 80 of my host machine creating a virtual server like 10.0.0.x(internal ip(static) of the host) - tcp - start port : 80 - end port : 80 in router options. Now I suppose every request that will come to the public Ip on port 80 will be forwarded to my host machine(10.0.0.x) over port 80. So If everyhing went as desired, the website listening on port 80 will accept the request and process the issue and finally respond bla bla bla... I suppose to access my website from outside of the network by entering http://MyPublicIp:80 in a browser but I couldn't accomplish this task by now despite using godady's domain forwarding tool,I see a small view of my website when I click the "preview" button that checks whether the address(http://publicip/Index.aspx) I entered where my domain will be forwarded is available or not. I am sure that configuring domain does not play a role in solving such a problem since using public ip and port matching does not help. So here is the first question, What is the fact that I face this problem? After that, I have couple of question regarding domain forwarding using godaddy tool. Can I forward my domain to a any port for example port 8080 other than default http port 80? Additionally, can I use a sub-domain to forward to a different port of the host? What I want to design is if the client enters www.mydomain.com, website1 will respond over a specified port and after when a client enters info.mydomain.com, another website which listens on different port will respond. I tried to add a sub-domain and forward it to a address like http://www.mydomain.com:8080/Index.aspx with no success. Can I really do that? Finally, what if I have a ftp site listening on the default port 21 and I create a domain like ftp.mydomain.com that will forward to that ftp site address. Is it possible to use sub-domains for ftp site access? I know I am more than confused but no matter whatever and however you reply to me, you will help me have a more clear view on this subject.   I'm familiar with the Front Controller pattern, in which all events/requests are processed through a single centralized controller. But what would you call it when you wish to keep the various parts of an application separate at the presentation layer as well? My first thought was "Facade" but it turns out that's something entirely different. In my particular case, I'm converting an application from a sprawling procedural mess to a clean MVC architecture, but it's a long-term process -- we need to keep things separated as much as possible to facilitate a slow integration with the rest of the system. Our application is web-based, built in PHP, so for instance, we have an "index.php" and an IndexController, a "account.php" and an AccountController, a "dashboard.php" and DashboardController, and so on.

  Hi, i need to read out all available actions from any controller in my web-app. The reason for this is an authorization system where i need to give users a list of allowed actions. E.g.: User xyz has the authorization for executing the actions show, list, search. User admin has the authorization for executing the actions edit, delete etc. I need to read out all actions from a controller. Does anyone has an idea? Thx for any help! kenan
