• Oracle sql: using bind variable for dates..

  Here is a simple working query without bind variables: select * from table1 where time_stamp sysdate - INTERVAL '1' day; where time_stamp is of type DATE. I should be able to input any number of days in the above query using bind variable. So I tried the following and does not seem to work: select * from table1 where time_stamp sysdate - INTERVAL :days day; I tried entering the numeric input both as 10 and '10',for eg. You get ORA-00933 error on 10g.

• OracleXETNSListener won't start

  For some unknown reason OracleXETNSListener won't start which prevents SQL Developer from connecting to it. C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora and C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames both have correct hostname.   I was writing some program that uses the WM_CONCAT function. When I run this query: SELECT WM_CONCAT(DISTINCT employee_id) FROM employee WHERE ROWNUM < 20; It works fine. When I try to compile the relatively same query in a package function or procedure, it produces this error: PL/SQL: ORA-30482: DISTINCT option not allowed for this function FUNCTION fetch_raw_data_by_range RETURN VARCHAR2 IS v_some_string VARCHAR2(32000); BEGIN SELECT WM_CONCAT(DISTINCT employee_id) INTO v_some_string FROM employee WHERE ROWNUM < 20; RETURN v_some_string; END; I realize WM_CONCAT is not officially supported, but can someone explain why it would work as a stand alone query with DISTINCT, but not compile in a package?

  I have select: select v.accs, v.currency,v.amount,v.drcr_ind, count(*) qua,wm_concat(ids) npx_IDS, wm_concat(px_dtct) npx_DTCT from table v group by accs, currency, amount, drcr_ind but i get error ORA-06502: PL/SQL: : character string buffer too small if i'll remove one string, because sometimes (when v.accs= 3570) count(*) = 215 but when i try to skip using wm_concat for v.accs= 3570 for example this way: select v.accs, v.currency,v.amount,v.drcr_ind, count(*) qua,wm_concat(ids) npx_IDS, (case when v.accs = 3570 then wm_concat(px_dtct) else 'too many' end) npx_DTCT from table v group by accs, currency, amount, drcr_ind i still have the same error message.   Trying to insert 315K Gif files into an Oracle 10g database. Everytime I get this error "ora-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested" whe I run the stored procedure. It appears that there is a 32K limit if I use a stored procedure. I read online that this does not apply if you are doing a direct insert, but I do not know how to create the insert string for a Byte Array. This is a thick client running on the server so not worried about SQL Injection attacks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI, code in vb.net. Thanks, Dave

• Got a minus one from a read call.

  I connect to a database with read only access using SQL developer. It's a TNS connection. I use a tnsnames.ora, forwarding port script and SQL Developer. In the past, occasionally, when connecting, I get a error message Got a minus one from a read call. Vendor Code 0 If I do a reboot, it goes away. Another friend suggested changed the forwarding port which worked for him. I recently upgraded to a new computer and now it seems that I am getting the error message consistently. Reboot or changing forwarding port does not help at all. The port forwarding script contains something like this putty -L ::1521 Does anybody have any idea? Thanks.

• Transactions not working for SubSonic under Oracle?

  The following code sample works perfectly under SQL Server 2005: using (TransactionScope ts = new TransactionScope()) { using (SharedDbConnectionScope scope = new SharedDbConnectionScope()) { MyTable t = new MyTable(); t.Name = "Test"; t.Comments = "Comments 123"; t.Save(); ts.Complete(); } } But under Oracle 10g it throws a "ORA-02089: COMMIT is not allowed in a subordinate session" error. If I only execute the code inside the SharedDbConnectionScope block then everything works OK, but obviously I won't be able to execute operations under a transaction, thus risking data corruption. This is only a small sample of what my real application does. I'm not sure as to what may be causing this behavior; anyone out there care to shed some light on this issue please? • Perl: catch error without die

  I'm playing around with error handling and got a little problem. I connect with a database using the DBI module. I do my own error handling by using a subroutine that I call upon an error. I can catch my own dies and handle them just fine but when my database connection fails, the DBI module apparently prints out it's own die : DBI connect(...) failed: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach) at ... How would I go about catching this ? I tried using $SIG{DIE} like so : local $SIG{__DIE__} = sub { my $e = shift; print "Error: " .$e; }; This is on the bottom of my main file, in this file I also call the connect subroutine that is available in a module of my own. I also tried putting this piece of code on the bottom of my module but it still prints the error without the "Error:" in front of it.

  I've tried to insert a list in a database but I've got some the error: org.springframework.jdbc.BadSqlGrammarException: SqlSession operation; bad SQL grammar []; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00913: too many values (...). • Unable to delete oldest table partition - Oracle 11g

  Hi, I'm using the 11g interval partitioning feature in one of my tables. I set it up to create 1 day partitions on a timestamp field and created a job to delete data 3 months old. When I try to delete the oldest partition I get the following error: ORA-14758: Last partition in the range section cannot be dropped I would have thought that "Last" refers to the newest partition and not the oldest. How should I interpret this error? Is there something wrong with my partitions or should I in fact keep the oldest partition there at all time? Thanks in advance, PJ

  This relates to my recent question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2835663/force-oracle-error-on-fetch I am now able to reproduce a scenario where using ADO with the Oracle OLEDB Provider, I can force an error such as ORA-01722: invalid number to occur on calling Recordset.MoveNext However, this is not the error that is returned to the application. Instead, the application sees Provider error '80004005' Unspecified error. How can I get the application to see the real error from the database? This is with Oracle 10g (client and server), if it matters. • How to send a Timestamp field to Oracle stored proc. from Java despite the DB config?

  I'm making a request from a java webapp to an Oracle' stored procedure which happens to have a Timestamp IN parameter. In the testing environment, it works sending: SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MMM-yyyy hh:mm:ss a"); input.setTimestampField(dateFormat.format(new Date())); But in the production environment, it raises an exception ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string. I know the testing environment should be a replica of the production site, but it is not in my hands to set them properly. And I need to send the Timestamp field despite the way they setup the database. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If use notational method of parameter passing, I get an ORA-00907: Missing right parenthesis error message INSERT INTO foo (a, b, c) VALUES (c, F1(P1=>'1', P2=>'2', P3 => '3'), e) Changing the same to position based parameter passing, and the same code gets compiled with no errors. This query should return two rows as it does on Oracle 9i, but results ORA-01476: divisor is equal to zero on Oracle 11g EE 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  Hi, I have a Django1.1 project that works with a legacy MySQL db. I'm trying to migrate this project to Oracle (xe and 11g). We have two options for the migration: - Use SQL developer to create a migration sql script. - Use Django fixtures. The schema created with the sql script from sql developer doesn't match the schema created from syncdb. For example, Django expects TIMESTAMP columns while sql developer creates DATE columns. Using syncdb with Django fixtures could be great but when trying to load the MySQL fixtures into Oracle, after using syncdb, I'm getting: IntegrityError: ORA-00001: unique constraint (USER.SYS_C004253) violated How can I find what part create the integrity error?   I am using rails freeze 1.2.3 to run a rails app. Because the app is on a remote machine, I used ssh tunnel (ssh -l -L) to show the app on my screen. When I ran it, it correctly prompted the login page, after I put in the info, I got this error: OCIError in ServiceController Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12154 I have tried the same app on a different machine w/o using freeze (because that machine has rails version 1.2.3 while current one has 2.0.2).
