Correct Response For Questions Regarding Lack Of College Degree

I've managed to land two programming jobs so far with a partial college degree. One was an internship/co-op type position that turned full-time, while the other is contract work I've received mainly via circumstance. I have an interview forthcoming (my roommate works at the company) and they have already asked him why I have not completed my degree. The real reason is purely financial, but I was going to ask the SO community if there was any way I could spin this disadvantage to make it look more favorable. So, Stack Overflow: How can I look less like a slacker given the circumstances?

[C#][WebBrowser] Two Questions

How can I get an HtmlElement if the source code doesn't have the "id=''", but only has the "name=''". Document.GetElementById() doesn't work, and Document.All[""] doesn't work (obviously, because there is no ID. How can I simulate a form post? Question 1 is more important because I found it harder to search. Question 2 I think i can get with more searching.

Android - Lifecycle and saving an Instance State questions

So within my application is a form for creating a new user, with relevant details and information about the user. There's no problems there, it's just what happens when the user leaves the activity without pressing the confirm button. Here's what I want to do: If the user presses the back button, attempt to save all the data to the database and inform the user. If the activity is interrupted (ie by a phone call), save all the data into a temporary location so when the activity is at the top of the stack again, nothing appears to have changed (but the data still hasn't yet been saved to the database). If the activity gets killed for more resources when in the background, do the same as point 2 above (ie when the activity is started again, it appears that nothing has changed). If the whole application is started again (by clicking on the icon again) and there is temporary data stored from either points 2 or 3 above, navigate to the "create user" activity and display data as if nothings changed. Here's how I'm currently trying to do it: Use onDestroy() and isFinishing() functions to find when the activity is being killed, to cover point 1 above (to then try and save all data). Save all data with onSaveInstanceState into a bundle (to cover point 2 above) Does the bundle created with onSaveInstanceState survive the activity being killed for more resources, so when its recreated the previous state can be retrieved (as in point 3 above)? No idea how to implement point 4. Any help would be massively appreciated. Cheers!

PHP Unicode character questions

Here's a link I found, which even has a character I need to play with for other projects of mine. http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2446/index.htm There is a box with the Title of: "Encodings" on that page. And I am wondering about some of the rows. I obviously need a course on this sort of thing, but I'm wondering what the difference is between "HTML Entity (decimal)" and "HTML Entity (hex)". The funny thing is, which confuses me, I throw those characters on a web page, and they display fine. But I haven't specified any UTF-8 encoding in the php page. <?php $string1 = '⑆'; $string2 = '⑆'; echo $string1; echo '<br>'; echo $string2; ?> Does the browser know how to display both automatically? And to make it weirder, I can only see those characters on my Mac, in Firefox. But my windows box doesn't want to show them. I've tested it in chrome, and firefox. Do I need to tell the browsers to view them correctly? Or is it an operating system modification?

Voting software with remote units - architectural questions

I'm looking at designing some software that registers live votes (let's say A,B,C or D). The vote needs to be picked up and processed by a .NET engine. The remote voting units should be as small as possible. What form of data transmission should be used for the voting? The data is obviously very simple but there is a need to make sure each unit can only vote once per question. How would the data be received by the computer running the software?

The java doc says the proxy instance implements "a list of interfaces", says nothing about subclassing, but through debugging, I saw that the proxy instance did inherit the target class properites.What does the "a list of interfaces " mean? Hi Ok dealing with Partial Loops I want to do several things Perhaps pass in extra variables - seen it done like this echo $this-partialLoop('Loop.phtml', array('data' = $data, 'var1' = foo)); But this does not seem to work - I can not extra the data using $this-var $this-data-var or $data-var not sure how to access the data in the loop Sutotals for columns - need a way of resetting variables or passing in a default value - linked to the above I suppose ie $subtotal += rowTotal; In the view that calls the partial I would like to get access to the subtotal values generated so I can display these in another table below. Any help appreciated the docs on partialLoop seems incomplete. Ian

Or what does 'Num a =' mean? Is it that mys would only take Num type? So anyways, a) I got [a] - [a] I think because it would just take a list and return it +2'd according to my definition of mys b) (a - b) - [a] - [b] I think because map still needs take both arguments like (*3) and a list then returns [a] which goes to mys and returns [b] c) I'm not sure how to do this 1. d) I'm not sure how to do this 1 either but map.mys means do mys first then map right? Are my answers and thoughts correct? If not, why not? THANKS!

Interesting questions related to lighttpd on Amazon EC2

This problem appeared today and I have no idea what is going on. Please share you ideas. I have 1 EC2 DB server (MYSQL + NFS File Sharing + Memcached). And I have 3 EC2 Web servers (lighttpd) where it will mounted the NFS folders on the DB server. Everything going smoothly for months but suddenly there is an interesting phenomenon. In every 8 minutes to 10 minutes, PHP file will be unreachable. This will last about 1 minute and then back to normal. Normal files like .html file are unaffected. All servers have the same problem exactly at the same time. I have spent one whole day to analysis the reason. Finally, I find out when the problem appear, the file descriptor of lighttpd suddenly increased a lot. I used ls /proc/1234/fd | wc -l to check the number of fd. The # of fd is around 250 in normal time. However, when the problem appeared, it will be raised to 1500 and then back to normal. It sounds funny, right? Do you have any idea what's going on? ======================== The CPU graph of one of the web server.

C# Vector maths questions

Im working in a screen coordinate space that is different to that of the classical X/Y coordinate space, where my Y direction goes down in the positive instead of up. Im also trying to figure out how to make a Circle on my screen always face away from the center point of the screen. If the center point of my screen is at x(200) y(300) and the point of my circle's center is at x(150) and y(380) then I would like to calculate the angle that the circle should be facing. At the moment I have this: Point centerPoint = new Point(200, 300); Point middleBottom = new Point(200, 400); Vector middleVector = new Vector(centerPoint.X - middleBottom.X, centerPoint.Y - middleBottom.Y); Vector vectorOfCircle = new Vector(centerPoint.X - 150, centerPoint.Y - 400); middleVector.Normalize(); vectorOfCircle.Normalize(); var angle = Math.Acos(Vector.CrossProduct(vectorOfCircle, middleVector)); Console.WriteLine("Angle: {0}", angle * (180/Math.PI)); Im not getting what I would expect. I would say that when I enter in x(150) and y(300) of my circle, I would expect to see the rotation of 90 deg, but Im not getting that... Im getting 180!! Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to setup Amazon S3 hosting with my Ruby on Rails 3 app, which is hosted on Heroku. After reading these instructions in the Heroku docs, I'm trying to use the aws-s3 gem. The instructions say to put the S3 account details in config/amazon_s3.yml, but the aws-s3 Github page says you create a connection like this: AWS::S3::Base.establish_connection!( :access_key_id => 'abc', :secret_access_key => '123' ) Why is the connection created by providing the details if they're already provided in the config file? Is that not the correct way to establish a connection? Do I have to establish a connection for each user everytime an upload is about to occur, or is a connection established for the application as a whole? Thanks for reading.

Hi, How do I differentiate between multiple cookies set through my site? I am setting two kinds of cookies one to see if the user has visited the site or not and an other one for authentication. How do I differentiate between these two? I get both of them when someone accesses a page after authentication. Do I add extra information to the Cookie Value or is there some other way? I understand the setName() function will change the name (from jsessionid) for every cookie from then on. Am I correct? Pav

Python virtualenv questions

I'm using VirtualEnv on Windows XP. I'm wondering if I have my brain wrapped around it correctly. I ran virtualenv ENV and it created C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV. I then changed my PATH variable to include C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV\Scripts instead of C:\Python27\Scripts. Then, I checked out Django into C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV\Lib\site-packages\django-trunk, updated my PYTHON_PATH variable to point the new Django directory, and continued to easy_install other things (which of course go into my new C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV\Lib\site-packages directory). I understand why I should use VirtualEnv so I can run multiple versions of Django, and other libraries on the same machine, but does this mean that to switch between environments I have to basically change my PATH and PYTHON_PATH variable? So, I go from developing one Django project which uses Django 1.2 in an environment called ENV and then change my PATH and such so that I can use an environment called ENV2 which has the dev version of Django? Is that basically it, or is there some better way to automatically do all this (I could update my path in Python code, but that would require me to write machine-specific code in my application)? Also, how does this process compare to using VirtualEnv on Linux (I'm quite the beginner at Linux).

Just curious to know if anyone has ever used gametutorials.com products for learning directX. I was debating on whether I should buy it or not. I read online that most of his tutorials were written in the source code. It's nice to heavily comment your code but if most of the tutorial is in his code then I don't think that is necessarily the best way to do a tutorial. But anyhow, I am not sure about that, I am just checking for clarification. and checking to see if it would be a good investment.
