• html form using input as a submit button

  Hello onlookers, A web site I've been using has some interesting behavior... There is a form, but there is no button for submission. Instead, there is an input: <input id="ctl00_pageContent_loginButton" type="image" style="border-width: 0px;" alt="Login" src="images/btn_login.gif" name="ctl00$pageContent$loginButton"/> and when you hover over it the cursor turns into a hand, like an anchor tag -- however I do not see any css (in firebug) showing that the input should have a hover attribute. Further, the input does not have any sign of being an actual link/submission button. I'm stumped -- would love to know how they were able to do this. • Cannot set focus on input field in infoWindow

  Hi Why is focus not set to noteTitle? I am using google maps API V3. The getNoteForm() returns a input field "noteTitle". The $("#noteTitle").focus() works fine when executed in firebug. • How to simulate an error 500 in Symfony 1.4?

  I created an error500.php file in web/errors/ and would now like to test it. I tried to put this line in one of my actions: $this->getResponse()->setStatusCode(500); Unfortunately it looks like it's ignored. Do you guys have any idea of what's happening here? I'm using Symfony 1.4. Edit: Firebug is telling me that the error is actually fired but the page is still loading afterwards. And I'm in the prod env.

• Wordpress: Not able to retrieve css for new plugin in admin mode

  I'm creating a new plugin which will have it's own css file. The css file resides in the root folder of the plugin. In the plugin section of the admin interface, I have added a few text fields fields. But the CSS is not applied. I'm adding the CSS file using this code: // Register styling add_action('admin_init', 'event_styles'); function event_styles() { wp_register_style('event_cal', plugins_url('eventcall.css',__FILE__)); wp_enqueue_style('event_cal'); } The following code gives me the CSS path: echo plugins_url('eventcall.css',__FILE__); and outputs http://mysite.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-eventcal/eventcall.css If I try to enter this URL directly in the browser, it only shows me the front page. And if I look in the source code using Firebug, where the link to the CSS should be, I only find the entire HTML code for the front page. Am I using wrong code to use backend in admin interface? • Finding final/effective web.config values (from inherited configurations)

  Are there any apps that can show the final configuration as applied to a particular application directory? What I'm picturing is something along the lines of FireBug's CSS viewer. Basically, it should show the equivalent single web.config file (as if you only had one), with all the values that apply to the directory in question, with each element (or even attribute) annotated with its source (the real .config file it came from). This would greatly help deploying applications into foreign environments (eg, customer sites) where they sometimes have strange configs, that add in global includes (eg, they put the include in machine.config, instead of the web.config for that app) or have allowOverride=false, etc.

• Select list value undefined in $(document).ready

  I have the following code, which I want to load values on a selection change, and also do the selection load initially (since FF 'saves' the last value of the drop down under certain circumstances). The select part of the function works correctly, but for some reason when calling load2 directly the value of $('#select1').value is undefined, even though when I check the DOM in Firebug right after load select1.value has a value. • Mozilla Firefox border rendering

  Hi, I've come across a strange thing in Firefox, which has become a problem to me. It seems that Firefox renders borders thinner than other browsers. For example I have just a simple empty div element, and nothing else on the webpage, with a border set to width:3px. In all other browsers, such as IE, Opera, Chrome and Safari, the width looks the same and is in fact 3px wide. But in Firefox I noticed that the border width seemed thinner. So I checked the border width with Firebug, under the Computed tab - Box model. And yes as I suspected, the rendered border in Firefox is thinner. The border width that Firefox rendered is actually 2.2px and not the expected 3px. This small difference with Firefox completely messes up my design. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks in advance!

  With all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.

• Trouble with Canvas rendering in Safari/Opera

  Been banging my head against this one for a while, and figured I'd turn to the experts for some advice. I've made a jQuery snippet that grabs the values from a table and plots them in a line graph on a canvas element (also generated by the JS). All's well in Firefox and Chrome, but Safari and Opera aren't displaying the plotted points. I've reviewed in Firebug, Web Inspector debugger, JSLint, and checked the markup with the w3 validator, but still can't find anything glaringly obvious. Any chance one of you guys could help me out? • jQuery .getJSON() Not Parsing All Objects

  I'm using jQuery's .getJSON function to parse a set of search results from a Google Search Appliance. The search appliance has an xslt stylesheet that returns the results as JSON data, which I validated with both JSONLint and Curious Concept's JSON Formatter. According to FireBug, the full result set is returned from the XMLHTTPRequest, but I tried dumping the data (with jquery.dump.js) and it only ever parses back the first result. It does successfully get all the Google Search Protocol stuff, but it only ever sees one "R" object (or individual result). Has anybody had a similar problem with jQuery's .getJSON? I know it likes to fail silently if the JSON is not valid, but like I said, I validated the results with several validators and it should be good to go. • JQuery delegate what may cause it to not function

  I have a webpage using jquery 1.42 The following 2 segments of code live in my page. $('body').delegate('h2', 'click', function() { $(this).after("<p>delegate paragraph!<\/p>"); }); $('body h2').live('click', function() { $(this).after("<p>live paragraph!<\/p>"); }); The live method always works, yet the delegate doesn't fire at all. If I create a trivial page with simple html <body><h2>blah</h2></body> both approaches work. So I'm assuming there is something else going on in my page. With firebug I am seeing no javascript errors, no html errors. and breakpoints on the delegate method definately do not get hit. What else might be the cause of delegate not triggering?

• POST data disapearing on large file upload

  I'm having issues with a file uploading utility in my PHP application. When sending large files (9MB+) over the form, I get a very odd behaviour: the POST data I've included in the form dissapears, including the file information. I've already increased all PHP limits I could (time limit, max input time, post max size, memory limit and upload max filesize) and I still can't get the proper behaviour. I've tried replacing the regular HTTP forms with a Flash-based solution (SWFUpload, www.swfupload.org), still the same behaviour. I've tried multiple files of similar sizes and its definitely not a particular file issue. I've debugged the POST vars sent using Firebug, and the correct variables are still there in the header, together with the file. What could be going on here?

• IE8 + Jquery ajax call giving parsererror from dJango : for json data which seems valid in Firefox

  The ajax call works fine in FF. the data returned is in JSON here is an example from FF firebug - {"noProfiles": "No profiles have been created, lets start now !"} When I try to print the error in IE8 (& in compatibility modes as well), it says "parsererror". But the output seems to be valid JSON. Here is the ajax function call I'm making. • jQuery ajax request to php, how to return plain text only

  I am making an ajax request to a php page and I cannot for the life of me get it to just return plain text. $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/shipping/test.php', cache: false, dataType: 'text', data: myData, success: function(data){ console.log(data) } }); in test.php I am including this script to get UPS rates. I am then calling the function with $rate = ups($dest_zip,$service,$weight,$length,$width,$height); I am doing echo $rate; at the bottom of test.php. When viewed in a browser shows the rate, that's great. But when I request the page via ajax I get a bunch of XML. • link div to input text in firefox

  I'm using google maps api to have a map show up on my website where visitors can also find directions. I have a starting point setup and an end point. Both are text areas. The start is empty, but I want the end point to be populated with the address from a div that I already have in the page. I have the javascript as: var address = document.getElementById("address").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); It works in Chrome, but Firefox shows the text in the endpoint box as 'undefined.' • Website renders two scroll bars, is it the CSS, xhtml, or some jquery plugin?

  I've come to notice a bug on my website, I see that there's two scroll bars when the window is re-sized from a full sized window (my desktop's 1280x900). This issue is untraceable with Firebug and it shows up on all browsers. I'm using a JQuery UI script on the page as well but I'm not sure if that's what's doing this. What's a good way to go about getting rid of this? Or has anyone ever encountered having two scroll bars on the page? BTW: The in-page scroll bar is actually above the footer, if that helps.

  "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." Hi, I am trying to load a php page on apache , but none of the static content gets loaded. Using firebug I captured the static url and tried it separately, when I received "The connection was reset" message. The site works other computers mac, windows, linux but no on mine. I have deleted the cache, disabled firewall, changed my dns service and followed every possible suggestion on the web. I have no clue on why this is happening. Stack-overflow has been my bible and has never let me down before, hope it still doesn't ... Thanks a lot in advance .... please please please , i really have to figure out this error. Regards Dilip

• Google JavaScript CAPTCHA handling

  I am using Google API's to provide maps on a web page, however, Google frequently prompts for a CAPTCHA (I only know this from going into Firebug, users just get a JavaScript error) for requests for its javascript API's (e.g. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?file=api&v=2&key=xxxx). However, this prevents visitors from our network (a very large (UK wide) WAN) using Google Maps etc from using these sites with it on. This is likely due to the fact the IP is shared by many people, so Google sees it as spam. I don't see any way of contacting Google about this, so was wondering if there is any way of intercepting these failing JavaScript requests since they return a 403 status code? Perhaps by opening a new window, although that would not be user friendly (they will see the JavaScript after the CAPTCHA, so would be a cause of confusion and would need to refresh the page in question).
