  • Fastest way to check a List<T> for a date

    - by fishhead
    I have a list of dates that a machine has worked on, but it doesn't include a date that machine was down. I need to create a list of days worked and not worked. I am not sure of the best way to do this. I have started by incrementing through all the days of a range and checking to see if the date is in the list by iterating through the entire list each time. I am looking for a more efficient means of finding the dates. class machineday { datetime WorkingDay; } class machinedaycollection : List<machineday> { }

  • Generic JSON parser in .NET / WPF?

    - by niklassaers
    I've read lots of tutorials on how to deserialize a JSON object to an object of a particular using DataContractJsonSerializer. However, I'd like to deserialize my object to a Dictionary consisting of either Strings, Arrays or Dictionaries, such as System.Json does with SilverLight when I say JsonObject.Parse(myJSONstring). Is there an equivalent to System.Json that I can use in my WPF project? (just a short background: I'm fetching JSON objects that have way to much info, and I just want to use a little bit to fill out a String array) Cheers Nik

  • Creating a Type object corresponding to a generic type

    - by Alexey Romanov
    In Java, how can I construct a Type object for Map<String, String>? System.out.println(Map<String, String>.class); doesn't compile. One workaround I can think of is private Map<String, String> dummy() { throw new Error(); } Type mapStringString = Class.forName("ThisClass").getMethod("dummy", null).getGenericReturnType(); Is this the correct way?

  • Generic calls to OnResetDevice() and OnLostDevice()

    - by bobobobo
    This is kind of a COM question to do with DirectX. So, both ID3DXSprite and ID3DXFont and a bunch of the other ID3DX* objects require you to call OnLostDevice() when the d3d device is lost AND OnResetDevice() when the device is reset. What I want to do is maintain an array of all ID3DX* objects and simply call OnResetDevice() and OnLostDevice() on each whenever the device is lost or reset. However I can't seem to find a BASE CLASS for the ID3DX* classes... they all seem to COM-ually inherit from IUnknown. Is there a way to do this or do I have to maintain separate arrays of ID3DXFont* pointers, ID3DXSprite* pointers, etc?

  • Converting generic type to it's base and vice-versa

    - by Pajci
    Can someone help me with the conversion I am facing in enclosed code ... I commented the lines of code, where I am having problem. Is this even the right way to achieve this ... what I am trying to do, is forward responses of specified type to provided callback. public class MessageBinder { private class Subscriber<T> : IEquatable<Subscriber<T>> where T : Response { ... } private readonly Dictionary<Type, List<Subscriber<Response>>> bindings; public MessageBinder() { this.bindings = new Dictionary<Type, List<Subscriber<Response>>>(); } public void Bind<TResponse>(short shortAddress, Action<ZigbeeAsyncResponse<TResponse>> callback) where TResponse : Response { List<Subscriber<TResponse>> subscribers = this.GetSubscribers<TResponse>(); if (subscribers != null) { subscribers.Add(new Subscriber<TResponse>(shortAddress, callback)); } else { var subscriber = new Subscriber<TResponse>(shortAddress, callback); // ERROR: cannot convert from 'List<Subscriber<TResponse>>' to 'List<Subscriber<Response>>' ... tried LINQ Cast operator - does not work either this.bindings.Add(typeof(TResponse), new List<Subscriber<TResponse>> { subscriber }); } } public void Forward<TResponse>(TResponse response) where TResponse : Response { var subscribers = this.GetSubscribers<TResponse>(); if (subscribers != null) { Subscriber<TResponse> subscriber; Type responseType = typeof (TResponse); if (responseType.IsSubclassOf(typeof (AFResponse))) { // ERROR: Cannot convert type 'TResponse' to 'AFResponse' ... tried cast to object first, works, but is this the right way? var afResponse = (AFResponse)response; subscriber = subscribers.SingleOrDefault(s => s.ShortAddress == afResponse.ShortAddress); } else { subscriber = subscribers.First(); } if (subscriber != null) { subscriber.Forward(response); } } } private List<Subscriber<TResponse>> GetSubscribers<TResponse>() where TResponse : Response { List<Subscriber<Response>> subscribers; this.bindings.TryGetValue(typeof(TResponse), out subscribers); // ERROR: How can I cast List<Subscriber<Response>> to List<Subscriber<TResponse>>? return subscribers; } } Thank you for any help :)

  • Default for generic type?

    - by Mark
    Is it possible to do something like public class PriorityQueue<TValue, TPriority=int> where TPriority : IComparable (note the =int) ? Before you suggest it, yes, I know I can just add another line: public class PriorityQueue<TValue> : PriorityQueue<TValue, int> { } But I'm wondering if it's possible to do it as a param.

  • C# Generic method type argument inference

    - by CaptainCasey
    Is there any way that I can generalise the type definitions here? Ideally, I'd like to be able to change the type of 'testInput' and have test correctly infer the type at compile time. public static void Run() { var testInput = 3; var test = ((Func<int, int>) Identity).Compose<int,int,int>(n => n)(testInput); Console.WriteLine(test); } public static Func<T, V> Compose<T, U, V>(this Func<U, V> f, Func<T, U> g) { return x => f(g(x)); } public static T Identity<T> (this T value) { return value; }

  • How to unit test generic classes

    - by Rowland Shaw
    I'm trying to set up some unit tests for an existing compact framework class library. However, I've fallen at the first hurdle, where it appears that the test framework is unable to load the types involved (even though they're both in the class library being tested) Test method MyLibrary.Tests.MyGenericClassTest.MyMethodTest threw exception: System.MissingMethodException: Could not load type 'MyLibrary.MyType' from assembly 'MyLibrary, Version=1.0.3778.36113, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'.. My code is loosely: public class MyGenericClass<T> : List<T> where T : MyType, new() { public bool MyMethod(T foo) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } } With test methods: public void MyMethodTestHelper<T>() where T : MyType, new() { MyGenericClass<T> target = new MyGenericClass<T>(); foo = new T(); expected = true; actual = target.MyMethod(foo); Assert.AreEqual(expected, actual); } [TestMethod()] public void MyMethodTest() { MyMethodTestHelper<MyType>(); } I'm a bit stumped though, as I can't even get it to break in the debugger to get to the inner exception, so what else do I check? EDIT this does seem to be something specific to the Compact Framework - recompiling the class libraries and the unit tests for the full framework, gives the expected output (i.e. the debugger stops when I'm going to throw a NotImplementedException).

  • Is there a generic interface wrapper framework

    - by epitka
    Is there a framework or a native way in .net to dynamically generate wrappers for specified interface. I need a way to say, here is a type I have and here is the interface I want to wrap around it, and for each method it the interface forward calls to these methods on the type provided.

  • Linq to Sql: Generic Stored Procedures

    - by Eric
    Hello everyone, I am using Linq-to-Sql for a C# application and am currently working on some stored procedures. The application is for a newspaper, and a sample stored procedure is the following: ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.Articles_GetArticlesByPublication @publicationDate date AS SELECT * FROM Articles WHERE Articles.PublicationDate=@publicationDate Anyway, this query gets all of the articles where the publication date is equal to the argument (publicationDate). How can I alter this so that the argument can handle multiple publication dates? Also, I'd prefer not to use "BETWEEN," rather, I want to pick and choose dates.

  • Generic Open Source REST Client?

    - by Dean J
    I want a simple client that takes a few parameters (Method, URL, Parameters), makes an HTTP request, and shows me the results that were returned. A browser obviously can easily send GET and POST requests, but I have no good ideas on DELETE and UPDATE. Did I miss something in browser 101, or is there a common freeware tool to do this? I've seen other threads that give me Java APIs for a simple client, but that's not what I'm looking for.

  • Java generic return tpye

    - by Colby77
    Hi, I'd like to write a method that can accept a type param (or whatever the method can figure out the type from) and return a value of this type so I don't have to cast the return type. Here is a method: public Object doIt(Object param){ if(param instanceof String){ return "string"; }else if(param instanceof Integer){ return 1; }else{ return null; } } When I call this method, and pass in it a String, even if I know the return type will be a String I have to cast the return Object. This is similar to the int param. How shall I write this method to accept a type param, and return this type?

  • casting a generic array in java

    - by liloboy
    The implementation is for a linked list in java : public AnyType[] toArr() { AnyType[] arr = (AnyType[]) new Object[size]; int i = 0; Node<AnyType> current = head.next; while (cur != head){ arr[i] = current.data;// fill the array i++; current = current.next; } return arr; } public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(ll.toArr().toString()); } The error that I get: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException: [Ljava.lang.Object; cannot be cast to [Ljava.lang.Integer; Thanks.

  • Transfering a set with a Wildcarded Generic to a List in Java

    - by Daniel Bingham
    I have a data type that contains a set and a method that expects List<? extends MyClass>. The data type has Set<? extends MyClass>. I need to be able to move the stuff out of the set and into the List. The order it goes into the list doesn't matter, it just needs to start keeping track of it so that it can be reordered when displayed. Suffice to say that changing the Set into a List in the data type is out of the question here. This seems pretty easy at first. Create a new method that takes a Set instead of a List, changes it into a list and then passes it on to the old method that just took a list. The problem comes in changing the set to a list. public void setData(Set<? extends MyClass> data) { List<? extends Myclass> newData = ArrayList< /* What goes here? */ >(); for(ConcordaEntityBean o : data) { newData.add(o); } setData(newData); } Obviously, I can't instantiate an ArrayList with a wildcard, it chokes. I don't know the type at that point. Is there some way to pull the type out of data and pass it to ArrayList? Can I just instantiate it with MyClass? Is there some other way to do this?

  • Accessing generic lists with delegate notation

    - by n0vic3c0d3r
    I see some people write: //wordList is List<string> wordList.ForEach(delegate(string word){ Console.WriteLine(word);}); instead of: foreach(string word in wordList) { Console.WriteLine(word); } What is the advantage in doing so. Also I couldn't fathom the Action delegate syntax given above though I have used delegates in C# 2.0. Basically I am not able to relate the syntax with the concept of delegates I am familiar with. Can you please help me understand the syntax. Is it some shorthand?

  • Implementation Details as a "Document" ( In generic terms) - Python, C++

    - by mgj
    Hi..:) For documentation and presentation purposes, we often find professionals/students creating SRS, coding guidelines etc. for these things there is some kind of a checklist which one could use to appropriately match what could relate to a specific case and accordingly one does a documentation for each. On those grounds could you please give me some sort of a checklist( any points/guidelines) one could use for going about Implementation( in the form of Implementation Details) in Python and C++ . Although this might sound specific as the query is "Implementation Details" and is different for different cases as one goes about the REAL implementation, I just want a SET of guidelines one should follow ( Preferably In Python, C++ specific, even for any other language is Welcome) if this( Implementation Details ) has to also be documented or presented. Hope the question is clear, I am sorry if it still sounds ambiguous, I guess this is the best I could do to frame my query. Thank you for your time...:)

  • How can the generic method called know the type of the generic return?

    - by Paulo Guedes
    I couldn't find a duplicate for this question for Java, although there are a lot of them for C#. I have this method: public <T> T getSomething() { // } According to the type of T, I will have a different return. For example: String a = getSomething(); int b = getSomething(); For a, my method will return a specific String. For b, it will return a specific int. And so on. It seems that this can be done with typeof() in C#. How can I achieve it in Java?

  • How do you pass a generic delegate argument to a method in .NET 2.0

    - by Seth Spearman
    Hello, I have a class with a delegate declaration as follows... Public Class MyClass Public Delegate Function Getter(Of TResult)() As TResult 'the following code works. Public Shared Sub MyMethod(ByVal g As Getter(Of Boolean)) 'do stuff End Sub End Class However, I do not want to explicitly type the Getter delegate in the Method call. Why can I not declare the parameter as follows... ... (ByVal g As Getter(Of TResult)) Is there a way to do it? My end goal was to be able to set a delegate for property setters and getters in the called class. But my reading indicates you can't do that. So I put setter and getter methods in that class and then I want the calling class to set the delegate argument and then invoke. Is there a best practice for doing this. I realize in the above example that I can set set the delegate variable from the calling class...but I am trying to create a singleton with tight encapsulation. For the record, I can't use any of the new delegate types declared in .net35. Answers in C# are welcome. Any thoughts? Seth

  • Serialization of generic types - GWT

    - by sarav
    I have an interface like this public interface IField<T> extends IsSerializable { public String getKey(); public void setKey(String name); public T getValue(); public void setValue(T role); } And a class like this public class FieldImpl<T> implements IField<T> { private String key; public String getKey() { return key; } public void setKey(String key) { this.key = key; } public T getValue() { return value; } public void setValue(T value) { this.value = value; } private T value; public FieldImpl() { } public FieldImpl(String key, T value) { super(); this.key = key; this.value = value; } } When I try to compile I'm getting [ERROR] In order to produce smaller client-side code, 'Object' is not allowed; please use a more specific type (reached via server.sdk.model.IField) What is the cause for this? Is there any place I can read about GWT's generics support?

  • Control XML serialization of generic types

    - by Luca
    I'm investigating about XML serialization, and since I use lot of dictionary, I would like to serialize them as well. I found the following solution for that (I'm quite proud of it! :) ). [XmlInclude(typeof(Foo))] public class XmlDictionary<TKey, TValue> { /// <summary> /// Key/value pair. /// </summary> public struct DictionaryItem { /// <summary> /// Dictionary item key. /// </summary> public TKey Key; /// <summary> /// Dictionary item value. /// </summary> public TValue Value; } /// <summary> /// Dictionary items. /// </summary> public DictionaryItem[] Items { get { List<DictionaryItem> items = new List<DictionaryItem>(ItemsDictionary.Count); foreach (KeyValuePair<TKey, TValue> pair in ItemsDictionary) { DictionaryItem item; item.Key = pair.Key; item.Value = pair.Value; items.Add(item); } return (items.ToArray()); } set { ItemsDictionary = new Dictionary<TKey,TValue>(); foreach (DictionaryItem item in value) ItemsDictionary.Add(item.Key, item.Value); } } /// <summary> /// Indexer base on dictionary key. /// </summary> /// <param name="key"></param> /// <returns></returns> public TValue this[TKey key] { get { return (ItemsDictionary[key]); } set { Debug.Assert(value != null); ItemsDictionary[key] = value; } } /// <summary> /// Delegate for get key from a dictionary value. /// </summary> /// <param name="value"></param> /// <returns></returns> public delegate TKey GetItemKeyDelegate(TValue value); /// <summary> /// Add a range of values automatically determining the associated keys. /// </summary> /// <param name="values"></param> /// <param name="keygen"></param> public void AddRange(IEnumerable<TValue> values, GetItemKeyDelegate keygen) { foreach (TValue v in values) ItemsDictionary.Add(keygen(v), v); } /// <summary> /// Items dictionary. /// </summary> [XmlIgnore] public Dictionary<TKey, TValue> ItemsDictionary = new Dictionary<TKey,TValue>(); } The classes deriving from this class are serialized in the following way: <XmlProcessList xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Items> <DictionaryItemOfInt32Foo> <Key/> <Value/> </DictionaryItemOfInt32XmlProcess> <Items> This give me a good solution, but: How can I control the name of the element DictionaryItemOfInt32Foo What happens if I define a Dictionary<FooInt32, Int32> and I have the classes Foo and FooInt32? Is it possible to optimize the class above? THank you very much!

  • Generic Constraints And Type Parameters Mess

    - by Dummy01
    Hi everyone, I have the following base abstract class defined as: public abstract class BaseObject<T> : IComparable, IComparable<T>, IEquatable<T> {} I also have an interface defined as: public interface ICode<T> where T : struct { T Code { get; } } Now I want to derive a class that is inherited from BaseObject<T> and includes interface ICode<T>. I tried to define it like that: public class DerivedObject<T, U> : BaseObject<T>, ICode<U> where T : DerivedObject<T, U> where U : struct { public DerivedObject(U code) { Code = code; } // From BaseObject protected override int InstanceCompareTo(T obj) { return Code.CompareTo(obj.Code); } // From BaseObject protected override bool InstanceEquals(T obj) { return Code.Equals(obj.Code); } // From ICode U _Code; public U Code { get { return _Code; } protected set { _Code = value; } } } The only error that comes from the compiler is for Code.CompareTo(obj.Code) with the message: 'U' does not contain a definition for 'CompareTo' and no extension method 'CompareTo' accepting a first argument of type 'U' could be found. But U is a value type and should know CompareTo. Have you any idea what I am doing wrong, or if I do all wrong? My final aim is to derive classes such these: public class Account : DerivedObject<Account, int> public class ItemGroup : DerivedObject<ItemGroup, string> Big Thanks In Advance!
