• Server 13.10 Install Hangs

  I'm trying to install Server 13.10 on some old hardware for testing (HP/Compaq dc5850, with Athlon X2 2.3 GHz dual core, 4GB RAM). The third screen is "Select Language" and the machine appears to hang. Ath e selection screen, the keyboard and mouse does not work. I integrity checked the CD and it checked out OK. I also performed a second ISO download and it cross checked with my initial download: $ md5 Desktop/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso Downloads/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso MD5 (Desktop/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso) = 4d1a8b720cdd14b76ed9410c63a00d0e MD5 (Downloads/ubuntu-13.10-server-amd64.iso) = 4d1a8b720cdd14b76ed9410c63a00d0e I was able to install Server 12.04 on the same machine. The problem with 12.04 is the OpenStack packages are too old, and I wanted to try something with fresher packages. My problem appears similar to I cannot install Ubuntu Server 12.10. The Installer hangs at the language selection, but my ISOs appear to be good and the disc appears to be good. Any ideas?

  I boot from a DVD the last version of ubuntu 12.04 x64(because i have 8g. of ram) ,hit install Ubuntu ,check Install Along windwos 7(or something like this ,anyway the first option) and the button in the bottom right corner says "Restart to install" or just restart...i cant remember. So ,i hit the button than ,the screen goes black ,some proceses are stopped and on the middle of the screen it writes like this " Please remove installation media and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER: " The DVD rom opens and i remove the dvd ,close the tray ,pushing enter and the windows is starting ,no instalation ,no file copied to my PC ,nothing.

• How to get the 'Install alongside Windows' option, i only see 'Install inside Windows'?

  I created a bootable USB Stick with Ubuntu 13.10 and when i boot from it and try to install it i only get the option "Install inside Windows" and the button in the bottom right corner says "Restart to continue". But i don't want that, i want a real dual boot. I installed Ubuntu few days ago on my laptop and i clearly remember that it said "Install ALONGSIDE Windows". What should i do to get that option? PS i previously had Ubuntu installed on this PC from WUBI, but i uninstalled it.

  10:10 I installed Ubuntu alongside Windows 7, after the installation was able to upgrade to version 4.11. Now I'm trying to update to version 11.10 but I get an error message saying it is not possible to upgrade, I decided to install a partition that I created the part, but when I start the PC directly opens Windows 7 does not appear to me the option to choose which want to start the operating system. I formatted the partition where you had installed ubuntu, I've been looking for tutorials where you learn how to install ubuntu on a partition part to try to understand what my problem. I wonder if I can explain how to install ubuntu on a partition that part so that when I connect the PC to show me the option to choose which system I want to start.

• attempted WUBI install corrupted Vista

  Tried to install WUBI through Google Chrome on my Vista machine. Got through the usual warning about running new software, selected "continue" and waited for a prompt about where to install WUBI. Never got one...waited about 30 minutes (computer still running fine)...decided to reboot and try again. OOOOOPS. Was not able to reboot Vista. Ouch. When I run a Vista recovery CD it tells me there is an "X:" drive on what used to be my C: drive and it cannot find a Vista install to recover. Anyone seen this ? It is making me very happy... THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

But its too complicated and also I do not want to create symlinks and mount and all the stuff mentioned there. Installation instruction are also on the codegniter site i.e. http://ellislab.com/codeigniter/user-guide/installation/index.html , but those are not elaborative and little confusing.   I'm trying to install Ubuntu server 12.04 on my new hard drives but it seems to fail. Once past the option menu where is asked the partition to install the OS on, goes into a hold and no progress is shown afterwards. The hard disk I'm trying to install it on is: Western Digital WD20EARX The installation process hangs around 'installing core packages/installing the base system' . The CD comes through the test with being valid/ok. any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  I am currently running Fedora and would like to duel boot with Ubuntu. I do not want to replace Fedora, I would like to keep it as my main OS. However, when using the Ubuntu installer I only get the option to either: "Replace Fedora release 20 (Heisenbug) with Ubuntu" or "Something else" Is there I way I can install ubuntu alongside Fedora without deleting it? If so, as I would like fedora to be my main OS, is there also a way to make it the top grub option? I have tried partitioning with gparted however I can't split the fedora partition, it says it is all used however I have only used about 100/500GB. I am trying to install ubuntu 13.10 off a live USB stick, I will upgrade to 14.04 when I install it but don't want to make a new live USB.

Unity does not start anymore. I only can login to Gnome. How can I get back to a working system?

  Recently, I changed my OS kernel from 10.04 to 11.10 (bugs), but after doing it, the video driver for the 8400 GS disappeared (was there in 10.04). I worked out the same procedure I did to install it in 10.04, mainly, sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-current sudo apt-get --purge autoremove sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-current but it didn't work even though the commands seemed to install the driver without problems.   I have been trying to install Ubuntu on my PC for some time now. I tried wubi, but am unable to get it right. Then, I downloaded the ISO and tried to install it on an empty without partitioning, but the keyboard acts wierd and goes on typing automatically one particular letter that was typed while trying to enter IPv4 settings (2222222222 or ............, etc...) and also I get an error about some fsyncing\sdk\resourses something like that. Please help me. UPDATE: I managed to install it but I get a blank screen after logging in. Just the wallpaper shows up! Help me.

I found some installation of Texlive2010 but it does not work. Here are the step: download an texlive2011.iso, 2.3GB and save in local drive mount to a virtual drive install perl tk (ok) "sudo ./install-tl" does not work, "perl ./install-tl" shows pre-installation setting but it does not have the write access to /usr/local/textlive/2011/ Finally, I'm stuck Please guide me with a step by step tutorial or suggest any other solution beside typing in the black screen without knowing what is going on behind the Terminal.

• Why do packages fail to install from command line

  Every once in a while I can't install packages in Ubuntu 11.04. I'll try to run the software center and it and it will pop up then disappear. If I call it from the command line it says it seg-faults. And then trying to install anything from the command line I get this: sudo apt-get install pdftk Reading package lists... Done And thats all I get for anything I try. Usually restarting fixes the problem but its very annoying.

  I just built a pc and I am trying to install Ubuntu 14 onto it. I did the process in which you format the flash drive to be able to have Ubuntu 14 and install directly in BIOS. BIOS is set up to boot from the flash drive. Every time I try to do the install process, it will randomly reboot itself onto the motherboard BIOS menu. This loop constantly occurs and the only way I can use Ubuntu is to put the option of trying but not installing. HELP!

• Full USB install not booting, but Zorin full install will? [on hold]

  Okay I'm puzzled and been trying to solve this for days. I'm almost giving up on having Ubuntu. I've used Zorin will no problems, full install on USB. Boots up fine no issues. But I'm trying to install Ubuntu on the same USB stick. Exact same options under the installer. Mount point, bootloader location etc. However it will not boot with Ubuntu full install. I've tried disabling UEFI boot in BIOS, changed boot priorities and so on. I know the stick boots as Zorin has no issues. I didn't even disable UEFI boot in BIOS and Zorin boots up fine. Can someone help!? Thanks a lot.

  I am running Ubuntu 12.4 64amd. I cant get easy tether to install regardless of which version I use (32 or 64bit.) I keep getting an error when I try to run it in the command line. It tells me it not a valid deb file. If I click it on the desktop the instal manager comes up but the install button is not highlighted for me to click to install it that way. Please help. • Two different seeds producing the same "random" sequence

  Maybe there is a very logic explanation for this, but I just can't seem to understand why the seeds 0 and 2,147,483,647 produce the same "random" sequence, using .NET's Random Class (System).   Hello all. Often while I'm dealing with LINQ sequences, I want to send each item to a method returning void, avoiding a foreach loop. However, I haven't found an elegant way to do this. However, this seems a little bit noobish and jank. Is there any elegant way to do this? Or am I just misapplying LINQ? Thanks.

  I'm trying to find a solution for a query on a generalized Fibonacci sequence (GFS). The query is: are there any GFS that have 885 as their 12th number? The initial 2 numbers may be restricted between 1 and 10. I already found the solution to find the Nth number in a sequence that starts at (1, 1) in which I explicitly define the initial numbers. Here is what I have for this: fib(1, 1). fib(2, 1). fib(N, X) :- N #> 1, Nmin1 #= N - 1, Nmin2 #= N - 2, fib(Nmin1, Xmin1), fib(Nmin2, Xmin2), X #= Xmin1 + Xmin2. For the query mentioned I thought the following would do the trick, in which I reuse the fib method without defining the initial numbers explicitly since this now needs to be done dynamically: fib2 :- X1 in 1..10, X2 in 1..10, fib(1, X1), fib(2, X2), fib(12, 885). ... but this does not seem to work. Is it not possible this way to define the initial numbers, or am I doing something terribly wrong? I'm not asking for the solution, but any advice that could help me solve this would be greatly appreciated.

• Customizing the TFS 2008 build sequence to avoid compilation and deploy SSRS

  I'm trying to create a CI process for SQL Server Reporting Services. I am fairly new to TFS but quite experienced with MSBuild. In the past I've used a combination of MSBuild with Team City so the whole build process is more or less custom. Here lies the start of my problems, as the solution I am deploying only contains Report Server projects (rds), no compilation is required. I thought that I would override the the first default task that TFS runs (EndToEndIteration) to override the default TFS build sequence and inject my own. The first snag that I have come across is that the build always fails, how can I set the status of the build to success? Currently the EndToEndIteration task is very light and only has a message. Is this the best method to create a custom build process in TFS where compilation is not required? Or should I use the default sequence and override one of the hook tasks mentioned in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337604%28VS.80%29.aspx (ie: AfterCompile) The core steps that I'd like to achieve are: Bundle the RDL and datasource files Connect to the host server to register/deploy the reports Re-apply any subscriptions that previously existed Run tests to verify the deployment succeeded and is returning results as expected I have found another article on Report services deployment: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88710/reporting-services-deployment But it doesn't mention the best practice for customizing the standard build process. Any help would be appreciated.

• How to avoid malformed URI sequence error?

  I'm working with perl. I have data saved on database as  “ and I want to escape those characters to avoid having malformed URI sequence error on the client side. This error seems to happen on fire fox only. The fix I found while googling is not to use decodeURI , yet I need this for other characters to be displayed correctly. Any help? uri_escape does not seem enough on the server side. Thanks in advance. Detalils: In perl I'm doing the following: print "<div style='display:none;' id='summary_".$note_count."_note'>".uri_escape($summary)."</div>"; and on the java script side I want to read from this div and place it on another place as this: getObj('summary_div').innerHTML= unescape(decodeURI(note_obj.innerHTML)); where the note_obj is the hidden div that saved the summary on perl. When I remove decodeURI the problem is solved, I don't get malformed URI sequence error on java script. Yet I need to use decodeURI for other characters. This issue seems to be reproduced on firefox and IE7.
