  my computer can catch the signal for many Access Points for the same network, while the network has problem with internet connection in some APs and it's working in others "all APs have the same SSID" Please advice if as i user i can force my computer to connect with specific AP neither than to go with the one with higher power (through MAC adress or IP)?. I am sure that my computer catch more than 10 signals for APs"All with same SSID". I am using windows 7 home primume 64 bit. as a user i dont have access to the AP config.

• iptables blank after reboot

  We've started encountering an issue with iptables on our RHEL 6.3 systems in that after a reboot, when the service starts, the rules are not loaded. We get the empty ruleset: [msnyder@matt-test ~]$ sudo iptables -L Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination This is in spite of the fact that we have rules defined and the service is, indeed, running. That I know because when I run service iptables start it simply drops back to the prompt. If I run service iptables restart it actually stops and then restarts the service. And, of course, if I run service iptables stop it indicates that iptables is actually stopping. Knowing that I need to restart the service, I do so and the rules load up properly. They simply don't get loaded after a reboot. Unless they get loaded differently during a reboot I don't see how our rules would be wrong. If they were, they wouldn't even load during a service restart. Has anyone else ever encountered this? EDIT: The rules are already saved in /etc/sysconfig/iptables. They are not added on the fly from the command line so service iptables save is unnecessary.

• What can I do to configure my SSH such that it pauses for a flaky connection?

  I run ssh from OSX to a Ubuntu box - under home WIFI, everything works perfectly. However, when I ssh from certain external networks, ssh may be working fine for a minute or two and then drop due to a flaky network (diagnosed by pinging 8.8.8.8). How can I set up ssh so that it simply waits/pauses rather than drop (when dropping, I have to setup my development environment from scratch - a big hassle). EDIT When I say a bad connection, I mean, for example, ping 8.8.8.8 will work fine for a while, and then fail for 40-50 pings, and then come back on again.

• 412 Precodition Failed error only occurs on certain networks

  One of my favorite websites: http://jessiejofficial.com (yes, I'm a Jessie J Fan :')) has recently started displaying the error message "412 Precondition Failed" whenever I visit it from my home network, even when I use Tor Browser. At first I thought that this was an issue with the whole website, however I have contacted the web developer and he has said that they has been plenty of hits within the last 48 hours. Plus, I discovered tonight that I can access the website from my phone, through the mobile network. So it appears to just be my network as all of the devices in my house connected to the WiFi display the same error when I try to visit any page of the site. However there have been no changes that we are aware of or are noticeable to our network since the website was accessible, and I have just heard that another person in a different part of the country is experiencing the same difficulties also. Any help/advice/suggestions would be appreciated greatly Update: When trying to ping 'jessiejofficial.com' in Windows command prompt the request times out on all four attempts, on any computer connected to the wireless network. I can now also confirm that the same thing occurs on my MacBook Pro.

• Slow WLAN file transfer between server and tablet

  My file server is running Ubuntu 12.04 and I'm sharing files from it over samba. It is connected via gigabit ethernet. My desktop, running Windows 8.1, is also connected via gigabit ethernet. I can transfer files between the two and completely saturate that gigabit pipe. However, I just got a Surface Pro 2, and I'm trying to stream HD movies from my server to the device over WiFi. For some reason, I can't break much past 1.5MB/s transferring files over the network. I've tried streaming through XBMC and a standard file copy; no difference. To add the confusion, if I connect to my guest network and then use my VPN server (installed on the router) to access the file server, I get around 3.2MB/s. I've been running diagnostics to determine the root and I think I've found it but I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it.   I'm trying to set up a Linux machine as the server and a Windows XP machine as the client. Both machines are connected to the same local network via a Wi-Fi router. • Can a consumer wireless router act as both a wireless client and access point?

  I'm going to be moving in the future, and integrating my home network into that of my landlord. I wish to maintain an isolated network while using his internet connection, so I'm planning on cascading my router off of his (WAN-to-LAN type configuration). Unfortunately, it looks like it might not be feasible to run a wire between the two. Therefore, I'd like to send my WAN connection over WiFi to his router. At my disposal, I have a WRT54GL (running Shibby's Tomato mod), and I just bought an Asus RT-N66U (I can be flexible with the firmware). My first thought was to set up the WRT as a wireless bridge, then run a wire between that and the N66U's WAN port. I'm reasonably sure I could make that work, but can I eliminate the WRT from the equation altogether? Can the N66U connect to the landlord's WiFi as a client, effectively using that as the WAN port, while simultaneously providing wireless access to my devices on an altogether different WLAN?

I have no idea what device might be causing the lag, and wanted to know if there was a piece of software that could detect it. I know about some softwares like wireshark, which maybe do what I'm asking? If so it's too complicated to understand.   Can Mac OS X be setup to automatically configure its Airport interface with a static IP address when connected to a Wifi network with a certain name, and on all other Wifi networks use DHCP? Currently I'm using the "Locations" feature of the "Network" section in System Preferences to manually switch between two IP address setups. I have a "my static IP" setup, and a default "DHCP" setup. However this requires entering System Preferences to change the Location drop-down each time when switching locations. Can this be automated? Preferably this would be done without third-party software.

• USB 3 to Gigabit Ethernet adapters: where are they?

  I'm looking for an adapter that will let me use a USB 3 port as a Gigabit Ethernet port. This is proving surprisingly hard to find! Is there some reason why this product is either unavailable or very obscure? Is there an online shop (US/Canada) where I can buy such an item? Newegg, TigerDirect, NCIX, etc. do not seem to carry such an item. I find this surprising since it will provide at least double the bandwidth (possibly quadruple) compared to a USB 2 Ethernet adapter.

  Let's get straight to the point. This is my fictive network architecture: My question is: Would it be possible for Laptop B to intercept traffic sent and received by Laptop A? Please note that B only has WiFi access and no physical control over Router B. Furthermore, Router A and B create different wireless networks with different encryption keys.   I have cable internet and I have two PC. One of them has wireless and ethernet, the other pc has ethernet only. Also, I have a dsl modem that has wireless builtin (some common speedstream model). My goal is to connect all of them so that both have internet access. As I understand, I have two options: connect speedstream to the cable and then connect other PC's to speedstream; OR, connect pc with wireless to the cable and then connect the other pc that has ethernet only using ethernet+wireless through speestream. First one seems to be easy, but it doesn't seem to work. What about the other choice? Is it possible to do it?

  I have a really crappy VPS, and a really good computer at my office (with a really good internet connection), but behind a NAT. Is it possible to expose my good computer by doing this: 1. The good computer connects to the VPS (and keeps the connection alive) 2. The users connects to the VPS, and sends http(s) requests to the VPS. 3. The VPS just passes that http(s) requests to the good computer (including some identifications, so the servers can distinguish connections) 4. The good computer passes that http(s) response to the VPS 5. In turn, the VPS receives the http(s) response, and passes back to the client. Is it possible to do this? (btw, the VPS and the good computer are located in different countries) And also, is this "reverse proxy"? I heard that reverse proxy is for protecting the internal network by putting a middle server. And will this affect SSL configurations? (or make SSL impossible?) • I need to make Windows 7 STOP disabling the wifi adapter when the wired LAN is connected

  This is a Dell Latitude E6430. There is a setting in the bios to control this behavior and I have DISABLED it but it still happens. I am also running the latest bios. When I plug in a network cable the wifi adapter becomes disabled. I need it to stay enabled. What else could be making this happen? EDIT: The reason I need to do this is because with NETSH WLAN commands you can create a wifi hotspot by sharing the internet connection on the wired adapter and broadcasting a ssid on the virtual wifi nic. I do this all the time but it's not working on this laptop. I'm wondering if it's a network security thing where I am. I'm going to try from my hotel tonight and report back.

  One of my relatives has a nokia 5235 smartphone. It is good, but the only limitation is - there is no wifi. bluetooth & usb are the only connectivity options. His laptop has an unlimited broadband but no support for bluetooth, so basically usb is the only method by which he can connect the mobile with laptop. Now, he can do a file-transfer between these two devices, but by any chance, is there a way by which we can share the Laptop's internet connection through usb to the smart-phone?   I have D-link DSL 2750U wireless router. My PC and notebook are connected to router by Wi-Fi. They can share files or ping each other. I have a network storage unit plugged into router by an ethernet cable. Any of the computers cannot reach that storage unit or ping it. I guess my router isolates LAN network from WLAN network.   Morning/evening gents. I purchased a radical domain name today to set up a name for my services and to set up SSL. I configured the SSL fine and all but when I went to my website I couldn't connect. I can connect to the site with any other device in my house and my friend can connect to it as well from outside of the LAN. I am hosting the services with my computer and I can't access the service. Whenever I ping it using the command prompt I get a result of "General Failure.". It saddens me that they couldn't make a better message as it kind of brings me down.
