  Hello, I have been asked to do some POC on how we can provide a software solution which will be able to manage files. Manage files means it will be able to move files from source to destination servers. The client gave us 4 page document detailing what sort of software they are looking for. They dont want to use existing commercial softwares. They want to build their own customizable software. Has anybody worked on this type of project? Please provide your inputs on how should i approach this project. The software should be platform independent and should be built in java.

• [PHP] Using cURL to download large XML files

  I'm working with PHP and need to parse a number of fairly large XML files (50-75MB uncompressed). The issue, however, is that these XML files are stored remotely and will need to be downloaded before I can parse them. Having thought about the issue, I think using a system() call in PHP in order to initiate a cURL transfer is probably the best way to avoid timeouts and PHP memory limits. Has anyone done anything like this before? Specifically, what should I pass to cURL to download the remote file and ensure it's saved to a local folder of my choice?

  Hi, I am trying to send a file via Bluetooth using the GameKit framework. The problem I am having though is that I can only send one NSData object at a time, but I need to save it on the other end. this obviously isn't possible without knowing the filename, but i don't know how to transmit that. I've tried to convert it to a string NSData*data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:urlAddress]; but i can only send one NSData object, not two. Has anyone come across this problem yet?

• Best way to transfer an Entity Framework object over the web and back via JSON

  I've got some MVC code that serializes an EF 3.5 object into an anonymous type for return as a JSON result to an AJAX call on my page. The hurdle I have is that when I send the object back to the server via JSON, (and let the ModelBinder deserialize it for me into my EF type), I have to update it in my Entity Framework context manually. Or at least that's what I'm doing now. It has no EntityKey, so attaching it fails. I end up having to look up the old object and update it property by property. Any ideas around this? Is the solution to pass the EntityKey around with my object?   Hello again, I am writing an application which is composed of an underlying service and a GUI controller. The service collects data and sends to the controller, I used Messenger and put an array of parcelable objects into the bundle of the message. But when it is received at the controller side, error occurs: android.os.BadParcelableException: ClassNotFoundException in unmarshalling MyData ... I am sure that MyData implements correctly Parcelable interface. It seems I have to do something with ClassLoader? or what else? Please help me. Thank you very much!

  The answer is probably a resounding 'NO' but before I start a new project from scratch, I thought I'd ask. I create many throw away projects to test ideas and code before combining all the successful bits from the scratch projects into a final version. So I have one project with the Core Data stuff worked out but I want to move it to a new project. My guess is that there is too many internal hooks and dropping in the .xcdatamodel and the sqlite db is just not going to work. I'd glad to be wrong...

  I am writing a .NET 2.0 based desktop client that will send large files ( well largish under 2GB) to a server. Need to develop the server as well. Server can be on any technology It should be secure so an underlying SSL stream is needed What are my options. Any obvious caveats etc I should be aware of To my mind the simplest solution is to open a tcp\ip connection over SSL to the server and send n packets each of size M bytes and then have the server append the chunks to the file and finally send an EOF packet as well IS this horrible. Will the perf suck on the server with all these disk writes What are any other clever options. I am limited to .NET 2.0 on the client if I did move to a WCF client will it buy be something magical and cool for this scenario Thanks

  Using Copying by NetCat I am trying to copy files throught network by NetCat. From console it work pretty well. First I run listening netcat on the destination machine and after I run sending on source machine. The problem is it's doen't work from script from the source machine: ssh -f user@$desthost 'nc -l 1234 | tar xvf - /dev/null &' #listening on destination host tar cv /tmp/file | nc $desthost 1234 #sending to destination host I saw that after running port 1234 is still was open and status of the socket was TIME_WAIT. If you know what's the problem, please, help me out. And by the way, after copying how can I validate that the content is identical? Thanks! Addendum: I found one very strange thing, the same implementation with screen on destination work works, but not stable, sometimes it doesn't copy a file. ssh user@$desthost screen -dm -S test 'nc -l 1234 | tar xvf - ' #listening on destination host Maybe there is an issue with timeout?

However, I then lose the name value for when I want to name the file later. Is there some way to do this preserving the $_FILES array as it normally would be without curl? I'm also using an array of file fields in my script, so at the moment I have to convert my multidimensional array into a single dimension for this to work

• How to transfer Eclipse workspace and project from Windows to Linux and Mac

  We have a a product developed on Windows for years. The product is composed of one Eclipse workspace and about 20 projects. On Windows, we ask every developer check out projects into d:\dev\product folder, and copy a unified Workspace to d:\dev\prod_workspace. This way, whenever a new machine is set, we simply copy files to the same folder, and we can start working immediately. No We need to move our development environment to Linux and Mac. But there's no D:\ on Unix. And home folder for Linux is mostly like /home/username and /Users/username for Mac. We found Eclipse keeps absolute path in workspace when referring to projects, so simply copy workspace over does not work anymore. Even when we manually create/configure workspace on a Linux machine, it still cannot be copied over to another user, because the absolute path is changed. I guess our goal is to allow easy setup of development environment. Do you have any suggestion to move eclipse workspace around? Thanks! Li

For example I am only getting 8 entries returned, and some are disordered, and sometimes nothing is returned. Personally i don't like them, i hate create and manage word documents, excel datasheets etc. etc. I'm not talking about opening a word document and write some text or calculate sum and division on excel; i'm talking about advanced features like revisions, vba macros and so on. I have a co-worker, actually he's a talented functional analyst, that don't know anything about programming but he's kind a monster guru on Microsoft Office suite. When he sits on my desk and asks me to open and modify some of his hardly complicated Microsoft Excel multicolor multipivotal recursive datasheet, ehm, i feel like a baby in front of a nuclear plant console.It' not a great feeling if you know what i mean. As programmer, do you feel guilty about not knowing office suites enough?

  I have a C# application running on a server, and it needs to copy files out to multiple Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. These devices are connected to the network directly via Ethernet-enabled cradles (so they are not connected to a PC via ActiveSync). What different options do I have for doing this? I know RAPI can do this, but I'm not sure if it can copy something directly over the network like this. Also, I know RAPI uses ActiveSync DLLs and thus requires ActiveSync to be installed, and we would prefer to avoid doing this if possible. Is WMI a possibility? Can we use ordinary File.IO if we can somehow get the IP address of each device? Code samples or general knowledge would be most welcome.

• Sync Framework: SqlSyncProvider ItemConflicting vs ApplyChangeFailed

  I'm trying to use design a syncronisation application that syncs changes between different SQL Server databases. I came up with a design based around receiving the ItemConflicting event, storing the knowledge associated with the conflict, and resolving all conflicts off-line. However, it seems that I can only get the ApplyChangeFailed event to fire. Is there some reason why SqlSyncProvider does not use the ItemConflicting event? Am I just hooking up to the event wrongly? The reason I care is that the ItemConlficting event allows me to simply log the conflict and continue with the rest of the synchronisation in a way that I can't seem to achieve with the ApplychangeFailed event.

  Hello! Not a programmer, I begin with xml, html forms and xslt on Mac. I plan to use a form to post short texts in a xhtml page and invite end users to add some annotations to the said text. The users would select a specific part of the text posted and each annotation would stand for one specific chain of characters. My goal is to consolidate the tags obtained from various user's annotations to one xml "knowledge base" containing the original text with all the revision indicators. Then I plan to use xslt sheets to product various reports based on the tags obtained. my two questions are : 1- am I dreaming ? Is it really possible to do that with xml, xforms, xslt without using java, php, ajax or other seasoned programmer's tools ? 2- What should be my focus for further explorations aiming in that direction ?
